Leonardo Pereznieto, most likely the sweetest and most cheerful RUclips drawing instructor to be found online. And he has some realy nice tips and advice also!
i love your videos , you are like a Mexican Bob Ross. you are very friendly with the viewers and make them feel at ease. and you maintain a very pleasant atmosphere . great videos .
This is the video I have been searching for for months! My drawings already look SO much better. Marking where I want to go and then practicing the movement before I draw it has helped me so much. I even find myself saying FUUM when I draw my lines! My figures look cleaner, more realistic, and awesome. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for making this tutorial! I've never had trouble with producing the right shapes and values in my art, but every single time, my lines are messy, dark, sketchy, and leave graphite smudged all over the paper and my hand. I always wondered how people drew so cleanly and quickly--and now I know how. I haven't even tried this out yet, but I already know that any method that gets rid of the "chicken steps" lines I was doing will help me immensely. I also loved your water drop tutorial. You're an amazing artist and teacher, thanks so much!
I've seen artists with so messy lines that if you see their sketch half-finished you say OMG. But at the end, it turns up better than everyone else's. Don't sacrifice your personal style for anyone's advice. Your shading may be a bit messy because you pay more attention to your model, which is a good quality. If you work on it over and over, after several cross hatchings, it will come up looking great. Furthermore, sketching as tought in every respected art school, is not done by drawing the lines of the contour as this video shows. You just take a few measurements and mark a few crucial points on your paper and proceed directly with shading. The eye doesn't see contour, it sees tones (shadow-light). In case you prefer to draw contour, this is not the better way either. You don't want to commit early, so you draw with fast and messy lines over lines in the beginning until you are satisfied with your form and you refine your work later on with shading and erasing.
hayas5 Why do you have to be so negative? I'm a person who likes and gets a lot out of these videos. If you are too advanced for this great for you. In fact if you have a better way to do this post a video response or link showing your method.
BizarreGo I'm not negative. I'm just expressing my point of view to provide an answer to the question of this post, which imo can help the person go deeper into sketching than contour-drawing (like a five year old) allows. After all, it's not smt more difficult just a different logic. It is, though, crucial for an artist to break the pattern of contour-drawing as early as possible to be able to progress.
hayas5 Because you don't understand about lines in art. Even the sketch is messy, true artists only draw straitght lines, not those chicken lines, it's messy because there're many straight lines, that's all.
Excellent teaching. You teach the way I learn, slow and watch the teacher before trying the lesson. You don't just tell this video helped me to go from. I will continue to watch you. Thank you for a great lesson.
Thanks for your good advice. I watched this video a few weeks ago and thought it was correct, but somehow I clicked on it again, and this time, I sat with a pencil and paper, following along, and now I REALLY get it. I am someone who has always used construction lines, drawing lightly and refining. My drawings are always very messy and I literally keep about five different erasers in my pencil box for all the precision erasing I have to do. I really didn't think "visualizing" the line would work, I just have always done it the other way. BUT IT DOES WORK! I really thought I didn't have the spatial coordination to effectively draw a line with the start, end, and curve in the right place, but this visualization technique really works. Sure I still drew some chicken steps, and my proportions were imperfect, but I am beginning to "see" the lines before they are on the paper, which is a stumbling block for me. I guess I just wanted to tell people who think they can't draw without construction lines, that this technique will get you there. Just try it!
What made me like the video? Was it the great tip for begginers or the amazing, comforting pace of the video? None. What trully got my like was the charisma of the fine gentleman presenting the video. Props to you, my friend. May life lead you to happiness.
I knew about the clean line thing, but not about the accents or line depth due to the light source. The practicing the line before you draw part was also very helpful. Thanks!
Very helpful. Thank you so much. I notice I draw even more chicken scratch lines on what should be very fine deliberate lines. This makes the very fine line thicker and blurrier from repeated passes. Your technique definitely improved that in my own drawings. Thank you again for your brilliant lessons.

air nads If you truly have a strong desire to do automotive design, first get your Mechanical Engineering degree, while you simultaneously take all the drawing courses you can sqeez in. (Voice of experience!)
A mechanical engineering degree is only applicable if he (she?) were to design the systems in the car. If it is the exterior and interior design, go with industrial design instead (for example, mechanical engineering technology). While they're doing that, then they can learn to practice art.
To summarize. 1. Mark 2. Practice line direction 3. Draw the line 4. Refine. Rinse and repeat. (Please watch the video because he goes indepth why you would use different lines etc. Just helping those who ask why :D)
Well I clicked because I hadn't seen many artists who use that type of pencil and I was interested in how he did it... not necessarily for the pencil. Yes, yes I did.

I love your tutorials. I was annoyed that my art work didn't look good even if it was super realistic like and that was exactly the problem. I didn't do continuous lines. Thank you so much! No more chicken steps for me!
wow! thank you so much for this. i thought the 1st drawing was good but hell the difference a clean line makes is amazing! will definitely try and use your technique in my drawings now :)
Me parece increíble la cantidad de cosas que se pueden aprender de tus videos, en este video solo mostraste tus materiales, pero aprendí un montón de técnicas que desconocía. Gracias por subir videos estimado!!!
You have a brain. You made a witty comment therefore you have creativity with words. You can learn basic techniques and your art will develop as your creativity has. Don't give up bc it looks hard. Some of the best artists started out frustrated but developed their skills over time.
The initial sketches, I tell my students that they are drawing with hairy lines. This is very helpful tutorial to get students more confident that they can do continuous line. Nice.
I just picked up back up on art after 20 years and at 58 years old, I've found that what once was a delight has now turned into a stressful adventure. I have gone to other artists tutorials , but none can compare to your tutorials. I had to subscribe and will share with anyone looking to get back to art. I enjoy the background music as well. Thank you.
i wanted to say thank for your drawing lessons i used to SUCK at drawing but now that i"m watching your videos i drew my first human figure ,but is it weird that i bad at drawing cartoons but good at drawing portraits .
You make it seem so easy! I have never drawn a clean line in a single go, I usually chicken-step hundreds of lines and then erase the ones that are not good enough. Then I come back and darken the good lines. I cannot imagine being able to just draw a line like it's nothing. But I guess I gotta learn to _foom_ sooner or later.
Hey! I just got introduced to your channel by my mom, and holy cow it's amazing! I'm stepping out of my normal style, anime and manga, and trying out realism. This is REALLY going to help me, and I hope to become as great as you are!
I would like to know more about the music that you use in this video please, so wonderful. Also, thank you for ALL of your help and teaching how to draw better.
People need to realize that art is not something you can just suddenly get good at in 6 minutes, it takes years of practice to perfect and find your style
If they enjoy doing it they will do it through the years and should see improvement. Also, learning these types of things as this video shows helps people to become better to find what works for them. I'm not really sure of your comment - well unless you're just wanting to come off negative - like all things drawing is practice and learning and practice and learning and practice and learning.
Foom and Chicken Steps have now been added to my vocab.
