I'm a self tought artist who due to an accident am now handicapped. Your videos have really helped me come a long way in getting my talent back even though it won't be 100%. Can't thank you enough !!!
Self taught artist meaning someone who hasn't looked at other artists before or learn from RUclips or even learn the fundamentals and no art is not fully a talent but more like a skill hope this demonstrates more.
Thanks, Leonardo. I have drawn since childhood but always had a death grip on the pencil. Around 2010 I learned to use the underhand grip and it kind of freed my strokes, though it took several years to somewhat master it, it feels natural now.
Oh wow, I never even considered holding the pencil differently. I mostly draw on smaller spaces anyway, but I'll try to remember this when an opportunity comes up. Thanks!
wow. Thank you sooo much for this video. I've been drawing for over 20 years on n off n never changed the way i held it. kind of crazy i find this out sooo long into my life. that none of my art instructor's never told me about this! thank you soo sooo much!!!
You explained it better than anyone I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard it from many teachers and many videos here on RUclips. I still find different grips difficult, but I will definitely keep persisting.🙏🏽
Thank you, Leonardo! I've been enjoying your tips for some time, now. They have really been helpful and encouraging to keep on learning how to draw better. See you!
Ok, I am officially making you my 'Sensei'!!! You are awesome! I didn't even know or think to hold a pencil in different ways, although in my eye video, I was doing the 'snooker cue' technique for the iris lines 😂
I just checked out this video and instantly picked up my sketch pad and pecil to give it a try all the above mentioned method's Wooow worked like a charm it feels effortless now thanks for the insight Sir
Thank you soo much for taking the time to do these videos ,they are super helpful. I hope you continue to do great in your crafts and inspire more and more people.
Thank you for this video! I just started drawing for the first time last week. I'm 45yrs old and I was struggling with the best way to hold my pencil from different angles and directions. Not knowing, but I found myself using the grips in your video. Right now I'm filling up pages in my sketch book with basic shapes and lines of various sizes. Do you have any videos on beginner exercises? Thanks again and great video! Bless you!
Drawing this way is very helpful for getting gesture and loosening up, I've been doing it for about a year now and (although awkward at first) it is now my preferred way of drawing. I like to use Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils to sketch with, (normally dark shades so I can get a fuller value scale from light to dark). They also have a very thick "lead" so they work beautifully when sharpened to a long point. :)
Perfect. You are good at describing techniques. I wasn't aware what I what doing but now I am more aware and can avoid being so "tight" when I need to be looser. . .
Yeah, I tried using different grip. Some felt unnatural, but I'll be practicing by holding my pencil in those grips until it becomes natural to me. Drawing some line strokes becomes incredibly easier by just holding the pencil differently, I realized that after trying your tips. Thank you, man!
I liked the channel very good, you explain very well. I'll watch more of your videos and try to put into practice what you've taught. Aliases, I like your French accent makes your English even more beautiful. Congratulations on the great work!
I'm not really used to drawing like that but I will not look back. That pencil tutorial on how to hold a pencil was great make more videos on how to draw better :)
Wow, this was your most helpful video ever! i drew a ride in church yesterday with a lady's name on it, and it could have been so much better, had I known this!
Hi. Excellent video. Should have watched this earlier. How do we hold the pencil for drawing vertical lines in a perspective drawing or city scape. My lines go slant or distorted. Great lesson. Thank you.
Felt like I was drowning in the sketches for my I.D program just doing the tripod grip. I'm left handed, so smearing and struggling to outline has been a huge issue for me.
With enough control and fearlessness you can make huge strokes with tri-pod. You just have to lift your hand ever so slightly when crossing another stroke and be confident that your line is going to lay right where it's meant to be. It's easier if you know where your stroke end is before starting. Some may disagree but I taught myself so there will be differences in method.
Fine Art-Tips Just wanted to thank you for the great tips on holding a pencil ✏️. They are very helpful since I am returning to drawing after many uears if not doing so. Little by little my hand is ajusting to holding a pencil ✏️ differently way as I draw. I have drawn some of the the drawings from your tutorials.

I'm glad to know that John, and congrats! The change of grip sometimes isn't easy.
