Thank you for this video. The wig looks really great in the end, but my heart sinks when I see people using plastic wigs, so thank you for addressing that issue so eloquently. Also, regardless of whether it will do what you want or not, your natural hair is lovely 😊
Thank you for the tips. I didn't mind your soapbox. I agree completely. I was recently horrified to learn that most plastic doesn't get recycled. I try to avoid plastic, but it is so difficult! I would rather have glass and paper, but it takes more energy to transport items packaged in glass vs. plastic. It's all a horrible tradeoff. At least the glass gets recycled and doesn't exist forever like plastic. What to do?! There's my rant. :-) Back to hair... I plan to try earlier eras in which hair-challenged can wear caps or goods and look absolutely appropriate!
Thank you for watching and validating my feelings :) My local county will no longer recycle glass!! It is just so much "cheaper" to make new glass and plastic. *Sigh. I love Regency costuming because of the caps and hats!
I absolutely LOVED this video! Three years ago I made the commitment to only use natural fibers and materials in my costuming. Then two years ago I challenged myself that 90% of the said materials would come from estate sales, thrift stores, swaps with friends, etc. Please, continue to stand on your soapbox!
Thank you so much for watching and I am glad you liked it! I'm determined to get more of my costuming materials second hand. I've had way too much fun shopping in destashing groups on Facebook, LOL!
Hi! This is Leila, commenting with my husband's account. Love your shirt and Votes for Women sash in the background! I'm planning to wear my Gap shirt when I go and vote in a few weeks as a nod to 100 years of women's vote.
Id happily wear a horse hair wig. Itd be some what accurate. This is why I have such a hard time with fur when making cloaks. Both real and synthetic are unethical but for very different reasons
Being an ethical consumer is very difficult. I think the more people know, the better the choices they can make. Horse hair sounds interesting, and I'm with you on the fur thing. If I ever use it, I would get antique or vintage furs so they don't go to waste.
@@AJaneiteSews I forgot to mention, if you don't like idea of soaking the plastics in water (due to micro plastics), you can use a hand held steamer. Some cheaper wigs will shrink though due to the heat

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words!
Congratulations, it’s lovely. I am about to make one for a party at Versailles!

Have you made any fake hairpieces for historical costuming?
