Fun fact, Mr. Bennett's waistcoat was worn by Johnny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley in BBC's 2009 Emma. It was also worn by James McAvoy as Tom LeFroy in "Becoming Jane". Such a lovely exhibition. I could kick myself that I missed it! I'm with you on the MP and the 2005 dress for Lady CdeB. I love Lizzie's red/pink gown. It's my favorite.
I saw some of these costumes at the Costume Museum in Bath some years ago; my favourites there (which this exhibition does not have) were Anne Elliot's (Amanda Root) dress at the concert at the Upper Rooms (it was the palest of greens decorated with little rosebuds) and Elizabeth Elliot's (Phoebe Nichols) yellow velvet pelisse. Amanda Root commented that the scene where she wore the dress was filmed towards the end of shooting, to correspond with her physical transformation and sense of well being when she discovers that Frederick Wentworth still loves her. She said that she felt truly beautiful!
I did not realize how lovely Mrs. Jennings' Renaissance gown was. Saw many of the Sense & Sensibility outfits when I visited the Museum of Costume in Bath way back in the early 2000s.
Thank you for taking us to see the exhibit. My favourite - which I didn't know until you highlighted it - was Fanny Dashwood's purple outfit for Marianne's wedding ✨
Loved this! I hope this exhibit comes to Seattle!! One point of additional information: the end of Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility is not a double wedding. It’s Marianne’s wedding only (refer to Emma Thompson’s book on the film). Gorgeous video and great observations seeing them in person. I’m sad that you can’t see all of 1995 Lizzie’s tan plaid dress since the top is covered by a spencer jacket. It’s one of my favorites.
Thank you. "Mopey" was also my term to describe the 2005 Mr. Darcy. He moped about like a forlorn puppy that somebody had kicked and left out in the rain.
Oh, this was a treat! How interesting that the colors looked so different on film; it's not that these dresses are actually 100 years old. I love Fanny's embroidered wedding ensemble, though the 'old fashioned' dress worn by Judi Dench would look better on me, lol.
What a wonderful exhibit! Thank you for sharing with us. I wonder why the colors of Marianne's costumes from S&S are so different from what they appeared on screen, while the other costumes from that movie seem closer to their screen appearance? I agree that the Bingley sisters' dresses and headdresses from P&P 95 are fantastic to look at.
Go glad to see you post a video! It was wonderful hearing your commentary about the finer details that are lost on film. I had never noticed the intricate details from the purple Sense & Sensibility gown before- it is lovely!
Cool, we saw such an (the same?) exhibition, purely by chance, when visiting the open air museum in Lund, Sweden, some years ago! Though the dresses weren’t open air 😂)
Oh! I’m pretty sure that black leaf lace on Fanny Dashwood’s purple wedding costume is the same black leaf lace used on the iconic striped black and white Katrina Van Tassel dress in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow! @sewstine remade the dress a while ago and if memory serves, in her video she found the trim on another dress from a different 90’s film and that’s how she reproduced it. I think it might have been in the movie The Affair of the Necklace…? Also, i love your outfit! The style of the bonnet and the shape of the layered sleeves is so interesting.

I love the history and multiple uses of these costumes! Thanks for the info!

Isn’t it gorgeous?! Im so glad you got to see them in Bath, that would be extra special!
Thanks for showing us this beautiful exhibition xx
My pleasure 😊

That dress is AMAZING 💜💜💜

This is wonderful, thank you.
The 1995 Sense and Sensibility and 96 Emma are my favourites. So to see the costumes more closely was so good.
Glad you enjoyed it!

It was possibly the lighting at the museum that caused the color differences 😊
That green silk was marvelous! ❤
This turned out so cute! Thank you for bringing back all these fun memories of seeing this exhibit with you!
💚💚💚
I want all of 1995 Lizzy's gowns. Especially the one she wears to the ball.
Right? I wish I had her entire wardrobe!

Probably the museum lighting and my camera! I need to work on color-correcting in video production. I’m much better at the writing and enthusiasm 😅
Go glad to see you post a video!

Thank you very much! I went through the exhibit about six times while I was there, it was so enthralling!
Thanks for taking us along, and for sharing so much information about the details and outfits you liked best.
You are so welcome!
What a marvelous show! I enjoyed the facts and tid bits you gave for some costumes. Helped me have a deeper appreciation for the costumes❤.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How fun! "you lucky lucky girl!"
This was simply stunning -- I watched on my phone but am going home and watching on my big screen so I can see all the details Lol
Thank you for watching! It was a joy to make this video 😊

Very cool!
I'd love tp see some of the costume from "Love and Friendship" - anything that Laday Susan wears
Oooh, yes!! Now I want to rewatch that movie!

Yes!!!! I thought it looked familiar!
I liked Mrs Jennings dress the best.
It is fantastic!
