"Lifting your chin so that you may better stare down your enemies." YES GOOD CORRECT. Confidence (homemade or "store-bought") will do more for a look than literally anything else.
"You probably clicked on this video because you like the Gibson Girl aesthetic." Bernadette, dear, I clicked on this video because your content is so fun and entertaining to watch!
"I hope that this was not a mild waste of your time" - cue my face scrunching up in confusion after having just enjoyed 10 minutes of impeccable aesthetics
Here's a tip: if you want a dusty rose colour without shimmer, look at blushes. They're usually also not quite as pigmented as eyeshadows, but the colour can be built up if you want more depth in certain parts
Purchasing more pro-based brands, particularly ones for theatre and film (e.g. Bill Nye, Senna Cosmetics, Viseart, etc.) will also be easier to find true mattes.
Often the easiest way to get Matt colour is to find a brand which sell there pans without cases. Mac and colour pop are the ones which come to mind, they seem to be better at having true mattes. Those I will say my Matte browns were bought as eye brow powder.
That's why I usually use blush as eyeshadow for a natural look. It looks good on my skin at least, idk about anyone else. I'm very very fair with a cool skin tone.
I love the quiet chattering of His Lordship. Makes everything so much better 💕. "forever trapped" is such a mood. My cat just lay down on me. There goes the next half an hour
My father calls that "feline paralysis". With three cats in our house we get it often and use this phrase to let other family members know that we are trapped and unavailable.
It’s been about as long since I’ve had a dog as it has since my kid grew out of his smol child cuddle phase. Yesterday he cuddled me during a movie I set up for him partly with the intent of me getting more stuff done…it was a good movie
And when the cat jumps off, over 7000 kg of weight will momentarily be applied via a paw to your chest. Which is odd given the cat will weigh no more than ~5kg
The struggle to find non shimmery eyeshadow is real! And it's especially important if you're older and the skin on your eyelids is a little bit crepe-like. That Shimmer will show every wrinkle and crease!
If you like to stick to one shade of eyeshadow, it's pretty convenient to use blush instead! They usually comes with a lot more matte shades(at least in my country) Or use matte lipstick as you would use a rouge, it will also be long lasting, but you need to make sure it's safe on your eyes though
I appreciate the make up routine and I love the simplicity of it. I understand you not wanting to name shades but I think if you name the brands it helps with
The lace in the front of her nightgown dress thing is the same as what she used for her combinations. Thus, I conclude that the pretty frilly lacey nightgown was made by Bernadette.
Well spotted, that is in fact the lace on the actual combinations, which has been pulled through the neckline of an otherwise modern dress that has been kicking around the back of the closet for a few years. :)
When I was first back at Primary school now this is, about, 10,000 years ago) one of the quite elderly teachers had fabulous long bright silver-grey hair, that she wore very much like this. I like to believe that she had been a fabulous Gibson Girl in her youth, giving unworthy young suitors that arched eyebrow that could break hearts with not a word said. Be that so, or not, it is pleasant indeed to come back to the video every so often and be reminded as a wonderful teacher.
Yes! I have both been blessed with madly falling hair AND a color that isn't to be easely found as hairpieces, so it's full wig or naught... And I don't like wigs (too hot) So I'm keeping all my hairbrush harvest. Got a nice family of rats, now!
Oh, how I miss my sit on in a plant length hair. Being in the Forces, I had t have it up and off my collar, as in above the top edge of the collar. They guys on night shift used to have great fun unpinning it.
I started saving about a year ago after I watched Bernadette’s previous hair video. My husband found it about two months ago and was entirely weirded out - even more so when I explained what it was for 😂
I’ve always loved videos like these, but especially this one, because seeing the “before” makes you realize that these insane, ethereal beauties we see put to video are in fact actual people with blemishes and whatnot who are just very good with makeup. Makes me think that yes, I can in fact do it to if I put in the effort. Still probably won’t, buuuuut…
Same! I never wore makeup through most of my life, but now that I'm nearly 30 I've started playing with make-up for the first time. Biggest thing for me, right now, is to clean up my skin and keep my makeup at a minimal unless I'm going somewhere "fancy."
"how can I make people stay through the sponsorship.....AH YES CESARIO CONTENT" this is both my most liked comment and the best comment i've made, worth it
@@elizabetha3936 Mine would definitely need help too, my hair texture is super fine straight but I hate back combing. Start saving the hair from your hairbrushes to make rats! Or as someone else in the comments said 'victorian bump-its' XD
this channel is so perfect for any level of attention. if you are paying close attention, there's beautiful camera work, great music and often sounds, the captions can be endlessly entertaining, not to mention Bernadette's wonderful way of speaking, and of course some great laughs along the way both in what she says and the occasional meme on screen. if you're listening but not watching, things are explained clearly so you'll never get lost in the sauce, the music is perfectly balanced with her voice so you'll be able to enjoy it while still getting info, and the sounds are asmr worthy. if you want something to fall asleep to, that also works. most of the videos are consistent in a fairly low energy which is perfect to relax to, there's not too much going on to shock you out of sleepyness, there's just enough going on to keep part of your brain paying attention though. i just love this channel. anyways thank you for the good you've done and the growth you've had.
I always put an older Bernadette video on to fall asleep to. Always. It’s soothing and I find actually helps prevent nightmares. I was listening to Shaun, who has a fantastic voice (seriously, best voice I’ve ever heard), but his videos tend to be a bit too depressing to fall asleep to. The same goes for That Dang Dad- his voice is very soft and soothing, but his topics are too depressing. Bernadette is both soothing and uplifting. So I put an older video that I’ve already seen a few times on, put my phone upside down so the light doesn’t bother me, and just start to drift off. Better than any storm sounds, by far!
@@katherinemorelle7115 same! personally i love putting on the lady Sherlock series to sleep to. she is so calming yet enthusiastic so it puts you in a relaxed good mood. i love it
Black man with short curly hair. There is nothing I can really apply to my style but the way you structure your process, and how you narrate it, is amazing. Your videos are instant clicks when RUclips bothers to notify me about an upload.
Mascara was originally a 19th century men's cosmetic for darkening facial hair. In the Victorian and Edwardian eras, many women, especially actresses, made their own mascara of burnt cork, or India ink. The colouring agent in all of these substances is carbon. The natural shellac in the India ink made it waterproof---a definite asset when one is perspiring under hot stage lights.
i was going to suggest that she make her own liquid eyes shadow when she mentioned that the burnt plum colour she used to use got mixed into a shimmer product.
When you mentioned "For shorter hair, you may use a hairpiece", and I ran my fingers through my 2cm long pixie cut - not even a hairpiece would work for me 😂 I guess I'm historically accurate for a recovering scarlet fever patient 😊
My hair is 2.5 cm but don't want scarlet fever again! I had a mild case as a child and it was so itchy and there was a weird taste in my mouth. Yay, a Lord Cesario appearance!
I have shoulder length now, but I used to have pixie and I plan on going back eventually so I've been thinking... Wigs are a good options, no? You would get the benefit of having stylish long hair while also not having to deal with the upkeep (and the -ugh- cleaning. All these long hairs on my floor and in my shower drain are driving me crazy.)
My hair used to be almost as longs as hers, 2 years ago I just shaved it all of and I actually love the way my head looks with short/shaved hair. But I still love to see extremely long hair on other girls.
I love how we've gotten to watch Bernadette grow and learn so much about cinematography! She's come so far and you can tell she still gets so much satisfaction out of making videos that please her. What a treasure
I never gave a thought about how short/long her hair is down, and dang when she has her hair down in the beginning of the video it is so freaking long it’s amazing
Her hair is so freaking beautiful! It looks great down, half up half down, one side up, asymmetrical, with a braid. Just a mythical creature. And those lashes.
So this is my favorite part of romance novels and historical movies, actually. The letting down of the perpetually pinned hair, and seeing for the first time how long and lovely it is from being up (in a frankly protective hairstyle) for so long. It's always a Moment™. 💕💕💕
It’s 5:30 in the morning and have never seen this woman before, yet have been transfixed by the lovely calmness of her voice and beauty, literally unable to stop.
She's had that effect on a lot of us. I wasn't remotely interested in sewing when I first came across her - i was so fascinated by her that I watched a few more videos. Ms Banner's was literally the first YT channel that I subscribed to and 6 month later she'd convinced me to take up sewing. Not only convinced me, but showed me how to hand sew neatly when necessary.
since I suffer of androgenetic alopecia, I will never be able to have long hair or top hair in general. But still I watch your videos as a way to relax my anxiety and to calm down on a day that doesn't go well. So of course none of your videos was ever a waste of time! I enjoy all of them very much! also I am half egyptian and your eye shadow reminds me of how my mum does her makeup using ground charcoal for her eyes and some ground pigments for the rest. loved to see the reference!
I also suffer from aa and have sad thin hair just below shoulders. Tonight I attempted the edwardian updo with dirty hair. Looks pretty ok until you spot the gaps and cowlicks at the top. What would they have done back then? Wear a wig? Some days I consider it…maybe one day when it gets worse.
Not far from the truth actually. Many it-girls of the era rouged their earlobes, nose, and chin. It was considered rather sensual since it mimicked blushing.
#same ! When I work out, my entire face goes beet red ! Embarrassing if you work out at a gym as folks think you are having a stroke, & your just starting to get "warmed up" !
@@helloworld2784 lol I think it makes it even better, especially if you enjoy being alone in a crowded space. But yea, not great for ppl who like to socialise XD
after two days of trial and error I mastered this hairstyle and LOVED IT. its much easier than it seems, maybe because my hair is wavy with some curls, so the texture helps. the first time one strand of hair fell from the left side and I decided it looked cute so now I do it on purpose.
I wish I could share the screen I'm looking at right now: the super easthetic, calm, lovely video from Bernadette I'm watching, and the video recommended below: bright, pink, flashy Nikkie Tutorials (whom I adore equally). They couldn't be more different you'd say, but I somehow love watching both
I love my name sake too. I was so sad when I missed a chance to meet her (had tickets for Eurovision but I lost them when they decided to make it with reduced, only Dutch audience)
😻 I love that single gray hair shining through. My hair started going gray about a year or two ago and I'm super excited about it. I believe we are roughly the same age, too.
That's so cool to see people being excited about gradual greying! 😁 I was super-excited when I noticed my first grey hair too; it felt like a life milestone! Have always considered grey/silver hairs to be like great natural highlights in someone's hair, and full grey as so dignified. Always feels rather sad when people are super obsessed about hiding it all with intense dyeing? I can understand where it comes from though, with women's aging having been seen as a negative thing for so long.
Did anybody else feel vaguely scandalized when she dropped her dressing gown and we saw her underpinnings? For a split second my brain was like *GASP* Madame! Lol
Fiancé: Maybe you should cut your hair short again? Me: How do I tell him I have saved out my hair for nearly 2 years in order to follow a Bernadette edwardian hair tutorial?
I'm a bald man and this was absolutely not a waste of my time, mild or otherwise, it was absolutely mesmerizing. Your videos are always so entertaining and informative, thank you!
my new inspiration in life: Bernadette, dressed in an amazing handmade shirt, holding her guinea pig with a cushion of his lordship next to her, offering him a cucumber and going 'no? alright,' while he makes adorable noises. I'm going to get to that level of positive chaotic energy in my life, I swear!
Ye olde makeup gurus knew what to do! This is a great natural and minimal look that I need to try out……. Also she looks like an edwardian godess! The vibes from this video are just *chef’s kiss*
I"m a little over a minute in and I just wanted to say I love how confident and comfortable you've become filming. I know there are days you may still be a little nervous but I love the growth I've seen! Also lordship hype and I think every pet parent understands the last bit. I'll have 3 on me...all plans for the foreseeable future are canceled unless I utter the magic words "Let me up pup"
The final "Effect, or look" is simply lovely! Speaking as a man, I'm happy for myself that I wouldn't have to go through that routine every morning. However, it does clearly illustrate that ladies who had the "Gibson Girl look" were not in the habit of flying out of bed and rushing out the front door at 07;30am. A clear pointer as to the pace of life of the period being different than today.
I really love that it’s obvious that you go back and correct the closed captions!! I love your little comments and questions (?) in the captions. You were already one of my faves, but the effort you put into your videos- all the way down to the captions- puts you over the top for sure!
I absolutely love Bernadette's captions oh my goodness I'm so glad you brought it up too! All of the effort is greatly appreciated and I love how much clearer it makes her already eloquent words!
I did not realize how much I missed seeing you and Cesario together until I saw you two together. I'm so happy he is enjoying his new living quarters :)
Mascara was used by the ancient Egyptians. Victorian women made their own, Rommel manufactured and sold his brand. It actually started as a moustache and brow darkener, a men's cosmetic! He created that in the 1850s, and women were using it even then! The fashion forward Empress Eugenie used it.
Love the hair so much! 💛💛Pro tip for future bobby pinning if you wish to try it! If you keep the short side of the pin underneath, without pulling it apart you insert then weave up and down like a sewing needle your hair will be much more secure. Opening the pin will actually stretch it out and make it less functional over time where hair can more easily fall out or you feel like you need more pins to keep it in place. 💛💛
Definitely an enjoyable 12 minutes! My aesthetic LIVES for sparkles and shimmer! Definitely to each one's own! But this did give me a bit to think about with that eyeshadow trick! Go Team Matte and Natural! Go Team Sparkly and Shiny!
matching your eyeshadow to the /veins/, that makes so much sense! I always struggle to find a shadow that looks 'natural', I'll definitely be giving this a try! Would you be willing to let us know what kind of formula you prefer in mascara to achieve that relatively natural but still amped up lash look? Waterproof, 'volumizing', black vs. brown, that sort of thing?
My no. 1 priority in mascara is specifically that it can be removed with warm water; that way it doesn’t melt at the slightest moisture, but it also doesn’t require makeup remover to get off. The less time I need to spend taking off makeup at the end of the day, the better! 😅
Clinique is great for this! I have the silver one (I don't know what it's called), and after literal *years* of searching, it's the best mascara ever. I have very long, thick, curly lashes, and normal mascaras make me unable to blink because it itches against my eyelids. Clinique is wayyy expensive, but if you make sure to close your mascara completely every single time, and store it in a cool place, it lasts forever.
The somewhat new "Sky high" mascara from Maybelline also does this very well, if you want to splurge then the fiberwig mascara is phenomenal ✨ (Regarding Bernadette's comment about mascaras that only come off with warm water)
The most natural look I get is with Rimmel London Wonder'Full Extreme Black. I find it ridiculously expensive, but it gives me much better result than the cheaper ones. I absolutely never have clumbs or sticky lashes, the argan oil nourishes my lashes (they are lovely long now) and the colour matches my lash colour well. On the down side, I cannot get it off even with remover and depending on the weather I look like a panda midway through the day. Always a challenge to find one that works for you. Good luck!
I have found that liquid eyeliner works *beautifully* for the mascara look *without* any lengthening! I have naturally long eyelashes that using mascara on would result in streaks on my glasses. Now, I don't have to worry about streaks, and can still get the look! Plus, it cleans SO easily!
Yay Cesario! Also, great tutorial. I especially like that you're upfront about it not being THE ONE TRUE WAY and that different things will work better for different folks. So important to remember!
I may not dress like you or do my hair the same way but I love your videos because you inspire me to present myself as I feel comfortable, without following conventional trends. Thank you Bernadett 💕
Do I want to learn the _turn of the century gibson girl-esque style in both hair and makeup_ - No Am I in the wrong place - Probably Will I still watch the entire video, and be more involved than I am in any of my regular classes - ABSOLUTELY!!
The lighting in this is great! I had never considered how long your hair must be to achieve your hairstyle, I'll have to show this to my niece. She is determined to have long hair but is also a child concerned with the modern era almost exclusively. Maybe this will spark a new interest in the way we lived in the not too distant past!
You are so right about the way hair styling improves with a practiced hand. I will take the advice on the Gibson girl stare to heart! Please convey my salutations to his lordship.
Bernadette says the most obvious things in such an eloquent way that I can't help but listen and learn from her wisdom: - there are no rules as to how much or how little makeup one puts on one's face - the whole point of it all is to feel good about ourselves and empower us in our daily battles against our worst enemies (in my case, my own attempts at self-sabotage) - I actually CAN put on makeup everyday, I just have to get up and do it already Thank you for that, Bernie! Even though not edwardian, I now also like to think of myself as a Gibson girl as I lift my chin and face each day
I've been doing my hair the way you show it in your first tutorial for more than a year and a half now and it's indeed funny how it evolved through this time, and how my result is completely different from yours. Also, the feeling of accomplishment that rushes through me because my braid keeps getting longer and longer is so motivating. Another thing I wanted to tell you even I don't know if you'll see this comment is how you helped me getting more comfortable with my face. I have a nose similar to yours, and for years I didn't like it (for mysterious reasons), but seeing your videos shows me how actually beautiful it is. I even start to like some profile photos of me, that I used to hate before. A huge thank you
Love your nose , it gives you character. I have one of those noses , and felt just as you do . Who wants a characterless nose , bland . Not I . Think of the beautiful woman in the world . You would be surprised at how many have proper noses . Love your nose❤️
I too wish for matte to become the trend once more. I don't need reminders of the dark times that was the late 90's/early 2000's with the extreme shimmer and dewy complexion dominating our optical senses.
There are brands which still sell matte makeup and also look for the more naturally-made brands you can find at organic stores etc. also lower shelf displays tend to have the less “trendy” matte-finish bits. I look for those too!
If you go to Sephora and click eyeshadow and then filter by 'matte' there are 62 listed, and the much cheaper Sephora brand has about two dozen matte shades alone. :) Tarte make really nice matte shades as well.
@@l.baughman1445 thank you. I’m so confused with Bernadette and people echoing her comments about there being not matte makeup. Like I’m 41 and out grown glitter and sparkles a while ago, I have 0 problems finding matte eyeshadows or foundations today. It’s all literally a few clicks away. Even newer trendy brands do matte pallets and about every brand has a matte black eyeshadow.
It makes you wonder if, in 200 years or so, someone will be on the future version of RUclips demonstrating about how to do 1990s hairstyles and makeup, whilst bemoaning how difficult it is do get a proper shimmer.
The dust sparkles in the close up shots are just so beautiful and artistic. Its makes me think of Bernadette dusting off the beauty of the past to wear it in the present.
Just fyi, your videos are never a waste of time. I can’t sow, not even if my life depended on it, but your videos are so calm, so soothing. I always feel relaxed and calm when I watch your content.
I swear to you there's a Minerva MacGonnagall comment on every one of Bernadette's videos. I am surprised she hadn't made an official Minerva look yet.
I used to wear my hair in the same style in the 80s , forgotten how to do it . I got so quick at doing it . Once walking past a hairdressers , the woman rushed out to ask me how I did it . I was in my Edwardian phase then . I must say it looks fabulous on you . Thankyou for sharing . ps , you are very beautiful..
What an enchanting video! You look absolutely beautiful and proof that less is more. I love your furniture and your sumptuous bedding (reflected in the mirror) that adds to the feeling of calm serenity. And Cesario chirping - the cherry on top!!!
You and your sibling are so wholesome. I appreciate you so much right now. Baby blues got me real down lately so I've been binging your channel for serotonin.
Hi, I was helping a friend who was struggling with "life" and told her paint a smile on your face and remember chin up, shoulders back and never let the** see you feeling down. You make the most beautiful Gibson girl.💖

I watched your original hair and make-up and loved this update. I loath shimmery products. I use matte everything. There are two products I cannot live without...my moisturizer and my Studio Fix by Mac. I pencil in random eyebrow hairs, a touch of mascara (only on the ends) and my go to red lipstick (also Mac, but lately, I have been obsessed with Color Stay lip crayons - amazing!) and that is my "beauty" routine. Hair, I wash once a week as well with my everyday hair being pulled back in a simple French twist. I am literally out the door in 15 minutes!
I've recently adopted twisty bits to my hairstyle, I've actually used some of what I've seen from your hair styles to find my own. You are a true hero to the not so modern woman:)
Thank you so much Bernadette! I'm am American drag queen from Dallas, Texas who absolutely ADORES preforming historical looks! This video helped me so much to finally pull off a convinceable Gibson girl persona! Much love from America!
The embroidered piggy pillow is perfection 👌 also thank you for the enabling - I was feeling bad for being a slug and not washing my hair tonight, but now I can say I'm preparing to be a Gibson girl ;)
What a lovely and relaxing video. I've been doing my hair as a variation of your Victorian inspired hair tutorial for more than a year now and you've really inspired me to wear my hair in older styles and I absolutely love it.
I had three hairpins and also absolutely no hair styling skills so it looks awful but I'll try again when I have some more pins and my hair isn't as slippery 👍

I am so glad I am not the only one that struggles to find matte eyeshadow. I was so excited when I found ONE palette that has only matte neutral shades
As someone who cut their hair no longer than a week and a half ago to donate it, this video made me feel a bit nostalgic of my waost lenght hair which has now become a shoulder lenght cut. Great and relaxing video though!
I think this hairstyle would still long amazing with your length! Only difference would be the back would either be pinned up with no braid OR kept down :) I think pretty either way.
Thank you so much for the gift of your hair. What a selfless thing to do. Many of us have hair growth that makes it impossible for us to be as generous. My son-in-law lives in cycles of growing and donating his hair, but his is thick, healthy, and grows incredibly fast. Down to his waist fast! Most women would never dare give up their "crowning glory". Those of you who do (and men too!) are angels.
So lovely, Bernadette. Thank you. The look reminds me of the original portrait of Cornelia that existed in the first few Samantha, An American Girl books. I haven't seen it since childhood but I loved that portrait so much.
As a long haired person I will say that leaving it down is super annoying. I lean forward and it covers my face and I cannot see. I sit back and it gets caught in my armpits or between me and the furniture and pulls. It gets incredibly tangled. It gets massively static in the winters. One day I put a half up/half down do through several outings getting in and out of my winter coat. The next day it took an hour to detangle as it has literally turned into a massive mat. So I put it up unless I just washed it and it needs to dry.
Long hair flowing loose can be aesthetic AF, but it can also fall into your face, stick to your lip gloss, tickle your neck, and develop astonishing tangles. I had waist-length hair in high school, and my answer to this question always boiled down to, "It's uncomfortable."
I am relieved to see that I'm not the only one wearing my historically inspired corset underneath my everyday clothing (which is also evolving to be rather late Victorian/early Edwardian). And now I can practice my hair style even better. Thank you

The struggle to find non shimmery eyeshadow is real! And it's especially important if you're older and the skin on your eyelids is a little bit crepe-like. That Shimmer will show every wrinkle and crease!
One thing I like to do( and if she has mentioned this in the video, I apologize, not watched it yet) is to use a bronzer as a shadow!
If you like to stick to one shade of eyeshadow, it's pretty convenient to use blush instead! They usually comes with a lot more matte shades(at least in my country)
Or use matte lipstick as you would use a rouge, it will also be long lasting, but you need to make sure it's safe on your eyes though
Surprisingly enough- Colourpop. Their 9 pan nude mood palette has 5 good matte shades and they sell individual pots as well.

I love how she NEVER said "which is not what you want", everyone wants something different, she recognizes that
The lace in the front of her nightgown dress thing is the same as what she used for her combinations. Thus, I conclude that the pretty frilly lacey nightgown was made by Bernadette.
I Would really like to learn that, some now days are just not what I am looking for
Well spotted, that is in fact the lace on the actual combinations, which has been pulled through the neckline of an otherwise modern dress that has been kicking around the back of the closet for a few years.

“Why are you saving all this loose hair?”
“I need it for my Victorian bump it.”
Hahaha I snorted out loud
Same, I have a birds nest of hair that I need to sort through 😂
Yes! I have both been blessed with madly falling hair AND a color that isn't to be easely found as hairpieces, so it's full wig or naught... And I don't like wigs (too hot)
So I'm keeping all my hairbrush harvest.

I'd be lying if i said that the only reason i watched the ad was for Cesario.
lord cesario is the only reason i don't stop her videos when she gets to the paid sponsorships portion
How could we click away form his lordship!
When she dropped the robe, I involuntarily gasped and was like, "M'lady!!!"

Instead of doing ads for Audible, you should be the voice we hear when we listen to it.
this channel is so perfect for any level of attention.
if you are paying close attention, there's beautiful camera work, great music and often sounds, the captions can be endlessly entertaining, not to mention Bernadette's wonderful way of speaking, and of course some great laughs along the way both in what she says and the occasional meme on screen.
if you're listening but not watching, things are explained clearly so you'll never get lost in the sauce, the music is perfectly balanced with her voice so you'll be able to enjoy it while still getting info, and the sounds are asmr worthy.
if you want something to fall asleep to, that also works. most of the videos are consistent in a fairly low energy which is perfect to relax to, there's not too much going on to shock you out of sleepyness, there's just enough going on to keep part of your brain paying attention though.
i just love this channel. anyways
thank you for the good you've done and the growth you've had.
I agree! Her videos are really articulate, and wonderfully made~
I always put an older Bernadette video on to fall asleep to.

Wow, thanks for the info, I didn't know any of that.
Interesting
Love that
i was going to suggest that she make her own liquid eyes shadow when she mentioned that the burnt plum colour she used to use got mixed into a shimmer product.
Omg I'm definitely using mascara to thicken my mustache now
Every time I lay my eyes on Bernadette, I'm reminded of Tolkien's eloquent and ethereal elves
When you mentioned "For shorter hair, you may use a hairpiece", and I ran my fingers through my 2cm long pixie cut - not even a hairpiece would work for me 😂
I guess I'm historically accurate for a recovering scarlet fever patient 😊
You could find a nice piece of fabric and be turbaned a la Turque!
My hair is 2.5 cm but don't want scarlet fever again! I had a mild case as a child and it was so itchy and there was a weird taste in my mouth.
Yay, a Lord Cesario appearance!
Maybe you can portray someone that sold their hair?
And she just trimmed about six inches!
@@sfowler1017 ikr!
It’s 5:30 in the morning and have never seen this woman before, yet have been transfixed

Cesario is the best marketing strategy I've seen in ages who could leave the video if he's on screen? No one

since I suffer of androgenetic alopecia, I will never be able to have long hair or top hair in general.
Look into toppers! They make all the difference
"Rouge is applied only to the points of the face that flush naturally" So you mean my entire face? I should slap that rouge from forehead to chin😭
Not far from the truth actually. Many it-girls of the era rouged their earlobes, nose, and chin. It was considered rather sensual since it mimicked blushing.

That dressing gown is GORGEOUS.
Heck yea, live that glorious shimmer life! ✨
Matching your eyeshadow to the veins in your eyelids is some truly next level example of how makeup looks are such a personalized form of expression.
Additionally I just learned that you and Cecil the Fawn share DNA and I can't unsee it now!
matching your eyeshadow to the /veins/, that makes so much sense!
The somewhat new "Sky high" mascara from Maybelline also does this very well, if you want to splurge then the fiberwig mascara is phenomenal ✨
(Regarding Bernadette's comment about mascaras that only come off with warm water)
So lovely!! His lordship is looking well
I have tried other Gibson Girl hair tutorials and failed dismally at them. This one actually makes sense and works for my hair! Thank you, Bernadette!

Do I want to learn the _turn of the century gibson girl-esque style in both hair and makeup_ - No
Am I in the wrong place - Probably
Will I still watch the entire video, and be more involved than I am in any of my regular classes - ABSOLUTELY!!
Bernadette says the most obvious things in such an eloquent way that I can't help but listen and learn from her wisdom:
- there are no rules as to how much or how little makeup one puts on one's face
- the whole point of it all is to feel good about ourselves and empower us in our daily battles against our worst enemies (in my case, my own attempts at self-sabotage)
- I actually CAN put on makeup everyday, I just have to get up and do it already
Thank you for that, Bernie! Even though not edwardian, I now also like to think of myself as a Gibson girl as I lift my chin and face each day
I love that you fill your natural lips instead of trying to change the shape, I was actually admiring it watching the last video

Mask wearing is on again. You have more time in your search. 🙂

Thank you so much for the gift of your hair. What a selfless thing to do. Many of us have hair growth that makes it impossible for us to be as generous. I understand wanting the historically accurate hairstyle-but girl you have such gorgeous hair to leave down and long. Love your videos.
@@susanrobertson984 I understand-but just lost all my hair due to chemo and I guess I am just envious of all that long hair.
@@Eloraurora Would give anything to have that long hair-just lost all mine due to chemo.
@@kathipecor37 awwwwwwww.
I am relieved to see that I'm not the only one wearing my historically inspired corset underneath my everyday clothing (which is also evolving to be rather late Victorian/early Edwardian). And now I can practice my hair style even better. Thank you
