This is the most peaceful makeup tutorial I have ever seen. And in my opinion the prettiest look! Thank you so much! I love the Edwardian era and am actually trying to build my personal look based on that.
Mum used 5 dabs of Pond's Cold Cream (2 on the brow, 2 on the cheek, 1 on the chin), a little Bourjois Rouge. Nanny only used a pink lipstick which she then pressed a handkerchief between her lips (which took it off again!). Apple Blossom talcum powder for sweetening under her arms. :D
When I was young (in the 1960s), my long hair was washed and rolled into rags on Saturday night for curls on Sunday morning. They're comfy for sleeping but, especially in a child's finer hair, sometimes the odd one would come unrolled overnight.
My Grandmother rolled my Mothers hair with strips of rags too. Prior to rolling each section, Grandmother would comb threw a sugar water mixture, onto the hair.
@@sinndymorr6358 Sugar water will hold ANY hairstyle! We used to use it for hairstyles for dance recitals. I will say though, if you get the concentration wrong, it will flake like crazy!
@Viking Song Just curious why anyone would lie about a thing like that? Either you get enjoyment out of those sort of sounds or you don't. Seems like a rather strange thing to lie about. I don't have ASMR and I wouldn't sit through any of those purely sound-oriented videos, because what would be the point? What would I gain from pretending that I do?
I was so excited to see the painting of Elizabeth Drexel at 12:59. I saw that painting at The Breakers mansion in Newport, RI and took so many photos of it. Absolutely beautiful!
So, were these hairstyles primarily for the well to do who could have a lady's maid at hand to do all this furzing about every morning or what? I was a late arrival to my Mother who was the youngest of 7 children but I have one picture of my Grandmother holding my Mom as an infant about 6 mo. old in 1917. My Grandma had a hairstyle along these lines but topped with a medium sized straw hat. She most certainly had little to no time to create this tour de force every day! But, my Mother used to tell me that she explained that women used "rats" (but not back-combing) that were made of often, horsehair to comb the hair over to create that pouty coiled look. Anything to add to this account? I've always wondered. Alas, my Grandmother died when I was 12 years old so I didn't get a chance to "interview" her on this personally.
This wouldn't take very long if you were doing it on yourself every day. It took longer in the video because she was explaining everything as she went. Also if they wore curlers to bed they saved time there as well.
Anna-Lisa Girling rats were also made from saving one’s own hair. Now you can also buy them out of nylon. Amazon has them. Same material that is used to make ballerina buns.
A channel called loepsie just did a video about making an edwardian hair rat, I haven't actually watched it yet, but there is probably something interesting there 👍
I have a butterfly rash so I don’t even own blush! It takes two coats of foundation to make my skin tone more even, not even like I don’t have any color. I absolutely hate my rash but at least it cuts down on how many products I use. 😂 That creme blush really was gorgeous! And I’m a big fan of the eyebrows! I love a makeup look that compliments natural beauty. Love this video, as always from this channel!
Omgosh same! I have "fever cheeks" which, I guess, would be more appropriate for the Victorian Consumptive look lol, but 🤷♀️ I've gotten to where I rather like them now, so I'll use concealer everywhere but my cheeks so that the natural blush shines through!
It could be that you have some undetected food allergy causing a constant skin irritation. I did. My face was always red and my arms had become red also. I got tested and found out that I'm very allergic to wheat. I'm also allergic to oats. Just something to consider...
Girl me too, I use a green tinted color corrector bc the only concealer light enough to work is white paint and I like my freckles to show. I got mine at walgreens for like 15 bucks, it's a primer too so it isn't reminiscent of greasepaint like those little color corrector palettes from wet n wild.
Sarah Waite I’ve had allergy tests and I’m actually fine. But I have Lupus, and it causes a butterfly rash that gets worse when you have a flare. It’s also common on the chest, but thank goodness for me it’s mostly an issue just on my cheeks and bridge of my nose. Hopefully the better my treatments work, the less apparent it’ll become!
Off topic... but I just had to say how gorgeous you are Liz!!! And your voice is so soothing and relaxing. Please, please do more hairstyle tutorials with your lovely relaxing commentaries :)
This is my fav. look for Kate, suits her very well. I like the idea of a Gibson girl to be not only stylish but independent, which I'm all about that. If only I had long hair again, alas.
This model looked like an average person at the beginning, in my opinion, but beautiful at the end! I really do attribute this to the skill of the make up artist. She took her time, used the make up products sparingly but expertly. The subject had good skin, too. I don't have those skills or the patience to do this but I enjoyed watching her process.
@@aprillen I don't wear makeup because I can't stand all that stuff on my face but I would wear a very light amount to achieve the final look of Kate's. I think the fresh, natural look is so much prettier than globs of makeup that these kids like to wear. When I first heard of baking your makeup, I thought it was so disgusting sounding...and when I watched a video of a girl doing it, caking all that powder and creme with your natural oils...yeah...it IS disgusting...YUCK!! Nope...that is definitely not for me as I love my skin feeling and looking clean, fresh and natural...with a light face creme, a hint of powder, a hint of blush and a slightly tinted lip balm or lip gloss for my lips. That's my look.
Kinda reminded me of a Wayne Goss look tbh. He always talks about using makeup to only enhance ones features rather than the whole full cover foundation routine.
Cat T i am quite pale and neutral toned, and I prefer benefit’s high beam. Sheered out, it looks extremely natural, but can also be built up without looking glittery or sparkly in any way. It also blends wonderfully with cream blush. I recently started using a dupe from The Face Shop that is nearly identical side-by-side and half the price.
I'm pale af (I reflect the sun instead of absorb it and I burn in 15 minutes lol) and I've found that the baked highlighter from ELF works best for me. All the liquid ones are too dark for me, it looks like eyeshadow fallout. A pale gold shimmery eyeshadow works too, but silver makes me look dead. One of my friends who is a little tanner than both me and the model uses a liquid highlighter from fenty (I think) and it looks cute!
Kate has the perfect Gibson Girl face to start with.
She does,doesnt she!
She’s adorable!
But big hole in her nose

Thank you so much! I love the Edwardian era and am actually trying to build my personal look based on that.
This hairstyle was also popular in 1978-79, we were into it , yes, it was called "The Gibson Roll"
ANGELAMARY FUSSEY you know that makes sense. I remember seeing that style on the show “ That 70s Show”
And Stevie Nicks wearing it
I still wear my hair in a messier, more casual gibson roll all the time! Truly timeless.
Kate being shook when Liv said what they used to do the eyeliner was such a sweet cute moment.

as an ardent admirer of the Gibson Girl aesthetic, i found the process fascinating and the end result ravishing
SAME!😊
I love some classic Gibson style stuff, I’d dress like that all day every day. It’s so beautiful
You'd have to wake up at 1 in the morning to be ready for work/school at 8 am. 😄 Otherwise, yeah, it would be nice.
KR Diaz you’d actually only have to curl your hair once a week and just style it so you wouldn’t have to do all the work every day
I'm pretty sure there are ways to incorporate this style into your wardrobe. You just have to look for the pieces that are similar. 😊
Have you looked for modern edwardian fashion? I think you’d like it( maybe look for Rachel Maksy and Bernadette Baner)
It surely couldn't be THAT hard or take THAT long, if women did it everyday, right?
I was so excited to see the painting of Elizabeth Drexel at 12:59. I saw that painting at The Breakers mansion in Newport, RI and took so many photos of it. Absolutely beautiful!

This is the most relaxing makeup tutorial I've ever watched; I feel so peaceful after watching
She has such a soft soothing voice I found this so relaxing to watch.
With Kate's complexion and her beautiful eyes and with her hair down I think she looks like a beautiful fairy
You picked such a perfect skin color for her complexion!
I think Kate is beautiful both with & without makeup.
I watched this tutorial and the lady speaking is so calming and her voice is so gentle. I actually fell asleep listening.
This whole video was so calming and very informative! 10/10
This model has to love her hair played with. So soothing and spine tingling.
She reminds me a bit of Jodi Foster in Anna and the King. Beautiful.
She does slightly resemble Jody Foster.... the King and I is set about 60 years before the Gibson Girl.
Kate is just so naturally pretty and the make up just enhances it! Lovely!
Your model has such beautiful skin! She just got more and more gorgeous with such little makeup.
Omgoodness Kate is stunning! I always send these vids to my best friend who happens to be a hairdresser so we can try these styles out.

Does Kate have a nose ring? There's a very adorable divot on one side of her nose

Yes. That hole in her nose is distracting. I'm wondering if the moisturizer and makeup sinks through the hole and into her nostril.
