- Hello Darlings! This weeks video is all about the Edwardian Hair and Makeup of the iconic Gibson Girl!
I found this hairstyle worked best with only shampooed hair (no conditioner) so it wasn't slippery and smooth. This hairstyle can also easily be done without curling it beforehand.
Lots of love,
Sage xx

ohmygoodness YES! I was thinking of Megan Follows the whole time! Such a cozy film
That Anne is my favorite. I used to dress up like her and wish to be her so bad. The hair the clothes and she was so beautiful.
I dont know why but I have tears in my eyes. This is soo beautiful, romantic, innocent, feminine.
I just discovered your channel and am in absolute heaven.
Sammeee I love love love this/her channel

Isn't she just splendid ❤️
Nice way to wake up
Sage, don't know how I missed this video, but I love it! You did such a good job! I love the Gibson Girl! I think it is one of the most beautiful hairstyles and I love the Fashions of that day as well! Probably my favorite or at least one of them of all time! Thank you dear!
I just discovered your channel. You are very talented and can't wait to watch more of your videos. I love the Edwardian era so much. Your hair is so beautiful in this video. Well done!
When I saw the first 10 seconds of your beautiful video, I started to feel so calm and fascinated, I love how vintage clothes and style looks, it's absolutely gorgeous and you made it even better, Thank youuuu👍👍👍💗💗💗
Turns out messy buns have bee fashionable for agess
Interesting to know.
That was truly magnificent!! I collect the albums of Charles Gibson, and you re- create the look perfectly!!
Hi Sage! How interesting about using a burnt match as eyeliner. I guess it's as natural as one could get. Love all your videos. 😀🌿⚘💕
Makeup became popular in 1901. I could have survived then! I was an Edwardian girl in another life. :)

My favorite book then tv series as a child was “Anne of Green Gables!” She was so elegant and well spoken and beautiful! You replicate that style so beautifully! I just found your channel and instantly subscribed!! I can’t wait to watch more! I mean who needs sleep! 😂
I loved your video. Just found your channel. Thank you for posting it. It was very informative. I have natural curly hair and vintage hairstyles usually take me having to straighten my hair to manipulate it. This one I actually think I can pull it off with out having to straighten 😅. So thank you so much. You probably saved me from damaging my hair in order to achieve a vintage look.
I love the top you wore so much😍 Also such an informative video. Thank you🙂
Awh thanks so much!! ❤️😊
@@SageLilleyman my pleasure man. I really am enjoying all your content! I hope you keep up the great work😍
You're a natural beauty and can pull of any aesthetic.
Beautiful! Also I have the same hand mirror and brush set, I bought it in a charity shop in South Wales around 6 years ago! Amazing to see another one in the wild!
Wow, that’s lovely! 💕
Your portrait should be in the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island 😊
You look beautiful in any time period new subscriber love your videos❤️
Awh, thank you! And thanks so much for subscribing!!

Absolutely beautiful, thank you. I`m from the UK and had never in my 56 yrs heard of the "Gibson Girl" , I love the Edwardian era I`m a new Subi to your channel and look forward to watching all the back vids. Thank you again. Take Care xx
Thank you so much for subscribing!! ❤️💕🥰
I believe this was mostly an American phenomenon, not sure if it hit the UK.
Gosh you are blessed with wonderful thick eye lashes!XX
Would you ever do a tutorial on how you drew the Gibson girl? It is absolutely stunning 🤍 also great video very informative
Charles Dana Gibson was the artist - hence the name Gibson Girl - google him and go to pictures and you will see the reference from this video and how it fits with the era of the Edwardians and in particular at the time the USA - and you will find the picture itself
@@nelsonclub7722 thank you!

Question! Do ppl look at you different bc the way you dress ? Love your channel and everything your ab! Thank you for great content!!❤
Thanks so much 💕😊 People do sometimes look at me but it is usually then followed up with them having a chat about what there grandma used to wear! They are always very wholesome encounters 💞
これってお化粧用品まで1890年代に使われていたような物で揃えてるってことだよね?
すごく素敵
Ur so beautiful and ur voice is so soothing love the video can't wait to try the make up look myself
Aw thank you so much!! 💕🌷
What a beauty! You are very talented!
Thank you so much! xx
I’m surprised you don’t have a parasol as an accessory for this look. Nevertheless, it turned out quite lovely! It’s so cool how you invite us to join you on a virtual trip to those long ago eras!
Why is your corset tied at the top? It's so much easier (and creates a more cinched shape) if you tie it in the middle.
I didn’t know that! Thank you 😊
My grandmother was born in 1880 So I saw her make.up.her Gibson girl hairdo as s child
Hair was straight. No pin curls or curlers
Hold hair straight up than bring straight down. Winding hair to top of head with right hand, than using hair pins Bobby pins were not invented yet
At the back place a comb
No curls. Ringlets around the face!
Your grandmother was just one person and the pic. was a child's. This vlog portrays a young woman, etc. Pls give proper credit
Your hair is beautiful in that hairstyle.
You're sooo pretty !! 😍😍🥰💃
Hi Sage, how do you even get tinned rouge or mascara nowadays???
You have a perfect hairline for this. 🥰
Beautiful! ❤
You look beautiful😍
Beautiful!
Thank you 😊
You look so sweet and romantic in these clothes and hairstyle 🥰
When you realize the most bodacious hairstyle on the ideal woman of the Edwardian era was a lazy, messy but styled bun. 😆 And they say they didn't wear makeup but, giiiiiiirl, all that was makeup. XD Also, you look so lovely as a Gibson girl. Thanks for the lessons.
I loved the blouse you wore! Can you tell me where you got it?
Thank you! 💕 I bought it second hand, but I believe it is originally from Zara.
This is great and i can see the work in trying to use matches for your eyes...omg that was scary. Everything is wonderful except for the fact that you don't own any edwardian skirts and women would not have gone out in their petticoats. :D
Tell me how it almost looked risqué seeing her outside in just a petticoat? 😂 That was a weird feeling
Wow
You're an Anne of Green Gables lookalike! lol
Thats so beautiful, but it won't work on my hair, my hair is not discipline at all.
Looks like Anne of Green Gables
I Adore you
Belisimo!
This look is so great on you! Great video :)
Thank you! 😊
You could pass for a Lady, the Lady of the house
Love this one ❤
Back then if they didn't have help or they couldn't get the corset tight enough they would tie the strings to the door knob and then pull taut
Wait.. Lead based make up was still used at the start of the 20th century? Oh my...
I love how “Air on the G String” was used - written in 1731 when the Edwardian era began in 1901 😂
You look SO much like Lily James.
Thank you, that’s so sweet of you! ❤️
whattttt brunettes were once considered the fashionable ideal over blondes? I never knew, how interesting that things can change, it seems blonde hair has been the fashionable ideal for so long, (at least for my entire life it has)
I know! It’s very weird to think that blondes weren’t popular!! 😂😂
@@SageLilleyman In ballet, on stage, its most ideal to be a brunette as lighter hair is not contrasting enough against your skin so you look like a Q-tip, too much whiteness haha (speaking for fairer skinned people of course), Not to diss blondes of course blonde hair is pretty, but just another situation where Brunettes are actually the ones who are favoured! It doesn't seem to happen often!
Gran Hotel :3
I clicked on this video to say that gibby has entered the chat
So inspired i feel like i wanna be in tht time n beauty were woman were something not like now too common n shameless everything has become tht nature not flawless skin looks so sexy n stunning
Quite literally a smokey eye
My grandma is 86 years old and has done this hairstyle every day my whole life. I think I have only seen her with her hair down one time in the morning. This was really fun watching you create this look and make me think of my grandma. Thank you!
I like you. Old soul like me.
I’m REALLY loving your videos! You choose the PERFECT music and your voice is so calming. I hope you do more 50’s content because I’ve watched several other “50’s videos”and yours is hands down the best by far!! I’m so jelly! I wish I was half as pretty as you! Oh well, we work with what God gave us...🙏🏻👍😘
Awh, thank you!! There is definitely more 50's content coming soon!! I'm sure you are gorgeous, you seem so kind hearted too!
I feel like this hair style is hard to pull off. It definitely doesn’t flatter everyone lol. You seriously look INCREDIBLE in it though! 😍😍 I get the feeling you look amazing in every look though!
That is so sweet of you, thank you! ❤️💕
Its a bun thts gone messy like we all can definitely pull it off as all woman did at tht time n a woman is a woman no matter th era
There many ways to pin up your hair and it looks amazing in all women if you frame the hair fronts and I’ll back the sides the right way for your head/face/size of chin/neck.
Charles Dana Gibson was the artist. His work gave the term " Gibson Girl"
Sage you are a work of art also. Love love your videos, it's so calming and refreshing at the end of the day to watch your videos. Love&Light,
Aw, thank you so very much! Xx
Very pretty, elegant
The make-up interesting, I would love to try the mascara.
Beautiful. I loved learning about the history behind everything. Thank you😊
You and your voice are so pretty😘love from India🥰
Thank you! 💕
Reminds me of my favorite books and movies as a little girl. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. Im 36 now and at 7 i would have killed to dress like this. You are a stunning beauty!!
Thank you so much 💕I loved Anne of Green Gables too! She was my favourite character, I wanted to look and talk like her all the time! 😂
It is fairly amazing you accomplished this on your own as most single women lived together in boarding houses, thereby eliminating the need for a 'girl' to dress you for the day.
Oh this is my absolute favorite video of yours! I've been binging all your videos
Thank you so much!! 💞 I actually have some exciting Edwardians videos planned! I love this era too, it’s gorgeous!
@@SageLilleyman ahh I'm so excited to watch them all!
The blouse looks almost exactly like one that my Great Grandma wore in one of the few pictures we have of her, the only difference was the collar was higher.
Thanks for your vidoes. I do say it is odd to see someone that loves to live the older way, but at the same time refeeshing. So you do you!
The main ingredient in match sticks is potassium chlorate, which is a skin corrosive. Do not put it on the skin or near the eyes :/
I love your outfits they are beautiful and you have the natural look of the 1950's for sure. Im so glad you are keeping the lost art alive.
You’re so beautiful, Sage! I felt like I was back in time! Thank you for sharing your art with us :)
You look lovely as a Gibson Girl! I simply adore that era. You might like to receive catalogs from the Victorian Trading Company in Lenexa, Kansas. I have bought several small items from them, but they also sell clothing. Or, check out their website. You won't be disappointed.
You look amazing as a Gibson Girl. I have many pictures of my Grandmother as one as well. So beautiful ! ❤
Your hair is exactly the same colour as rose from Titanic, that's my favourite movie,🌹🏵️💓🍀from IRELAND
I thought so too and commented that I was surprised she didn’t add a parasol as an accessory for this look like in the movie!
Absolutely amazing content!!! Mesmerizing ❤️
Where’s that rouge blush from?
It is from Besame Cosmetics 💕
@ 9:47 oops did you forget to do up a zipper or something? 😉
Absolutely LOVE this tutorial, thank you! This is how I want to do my hair. You're stunning btw! Yes, like Anne, but much more gentle and calm and I think even more beautiful. Thank you thank you! Love your channel too!
I’m in love with your channel! I used to think the looks of the past were impossible to achieve with our modern tools or something women would just get a their salon back then. Thank you for proving just how easy it can be! 😍
Congratulations. You did a stunning and very beautiful work. You have such amazing pretty brown eyes ! Your explanations are very interesting. Just one tiny thing : an Edwardian lady would never have gone outside without a suitable skirt, hat and gloves. But I love your video and I'll follow you. 🙂
I really enjoyed this look! You put so much effort into it to make it as authentic as you possible could and I really appreciate that.
I was wondering, what music do you use? I greatly enjoyed the Soft piano at the beginning and I recognize the classical piece at the end but don’t know the name.
This is a CLASSIC STEVIE NICKS hairstyle from the Tusk days. Check out the her official live Sara performance, and Angel.
Hi sage great vlog, i love the music. Your hair looks beautiful.
I have to know where u bought those shoes!!!!
Where did you purchase your blush in the tin and mascara in the tin?
The volume was low in this video, at least on my phone. Please consider recording on high volume with the mic close to your face. My phone volume is on high, and I like to hear what you have to say. Best wishes. 🙋🏼
Thank you for this video! Unfortunately, your Besame commission link appears to be broken because it lead to a blank page.
Its so interesting to see what exactly went into these looks! Very education and well filmed!
Thank you! 💞
Yes so well researched great!
I always thought that hairstyle was super complicated, but you made it look so easy! Nice work 😊
Thank you 😊 I honestly thought the same thing about Edwardian hairstyles before I actually tried it! But they are one of the easiest hairstyles to do! 😂
I just discovered your channel through your 50s housewife for a week video. Love your videos!
Thank you so much! X
Same here and now I’m binging the past videos! They’re so informative, well planned, easy to follow and definitely inspiring! They are quite intimate and that’s the true magical pull, in my honest opinion, because they give us a glimpse of what life was like in those times and that is truly fascinating! I’m so glad I found this channel because of my love of perfume and makeup. I just subscribed and look forward to more content from Sage!
just found your channel and I am too amazed that I can not express my words
