Reminds me of the 70's in New England, when people cared about others and went out on their broncos and blazers pulling, plowing and shoveling folks that inevitably got themselves into life threatening trouble, that said, best wishes in all you guys do, faith in humanity restored!!!
I've got the V8 Limited 4runner with the same engine, live in Michigan & love the weight & torque when pulling people out in snow... Many people forget that the Lexus is equally capable & comes standard with the 4.7... Love these platforms...
As a fellow GX470 owner, I must say it combines a lot of things for me, ergonomics (nice comfort) and off road capabilities. One of the reasons I bought this SUV, was the side opening door. It helps, if you carry stuff on the roof.
I have a LX470. I love it. It's a total tank. Mine is stock except for some Goodyear Duratracs and the offroad capability is incredible. I have had zero issues with the AHC system and it really smooths out washboard trails.
Agree on everything except the seats. I’m 6 foot and 235 lbs and I find the seats to accommodate me very well. The arms rest do feel out of place. I usually use the passenger side arm rest and lift the driver side.
Hey, David! Just wanted to ask you cuz I basically have zero idea about this. How much should an entire set up this size cost factoring in the lift kit, wheels and tires, spacers etc cost? How does it affect ride quality and handling? Thanks!
Totally agree with every pro and con! My kids have moved out so I removed my rear seats for more room. I like what you've done with the winch bumper and wheels, breaks up the white. I'm in the process of doing the same thing. Nice job on your GX!
We have two GX470's (2004 & 2009). Best kept secret in off-road/overland platform. No mods to speak of other than RCI skid plates yet. Great vids, great channel. New Subscriber. Thanks!
Definitely getting one of these now for an overlanding/road trip family car. I daily a Miata so I don’t care about gas mileage. Just want that space, reliability and off road capability for 7-10 grand.
Very Awesome. I've had my GX over a year and it's been a great unit. Camping has been a dream in it. I don't mind the back door latch, but I can't remember the last time I used my hand to lock it. Kick it with my foot! Great looking build!
Great video! Indeed I have wanted a 4Runner for quite some time. But she I found the GX470 I was sold. Similar in several ways but definitely stands apart. I also love the look how it stands apart as a extremely capable off-road vehicle. In all the GX videos I’ve watch that’s one point I have not heard made!
The headlight conversion is mentioned, but no link. I agree MOST GX470s headlight housings look poor, plus the EOM light is dim. A must do upgrade imo.
I’ve had the Toyota J120 Land Cruiser, (same platform as the Lex gx470), made 620000 km, sold it, got the J150 Land Cruiser (gx460)... love them ... both of mine, Diesel. We also have the Land acruiser bj42 (diesel fj40) 1978.
Also, the J120 with the tyre on the back door, has diff hinges for the door, more heavy duty, make sure you replace those, not sure if the frame is beefed-up...
I love your rig ! I just picked up a GX 470 in blizzard white to build up. I have a 5th gen Runner & a 4th gen V8 4Runner also that I build. I'm hoping I enjoy the GX as much as my 4Runners & hope one day to make it look like Yours ! Great video 👌🏼 & awesome Build !
I took my 04 GX as soon as I got it to the lexus dealer to check the rear heat problems. I stayed there for 3 hours and they told me there is no rear heat, only rear cool. I was so glad that there would be no one sitting in my back during Alberta winter.
I did the same here in Dallas! Pulled three vehicles out and never had an issue with traction. What I didn’t foresee was becoming the designated driver for family, friends, and neighbors. It’s a 2019 GX so I hadn’t really had the chance to put it through the hoops until snowmeggedon.
Just bought a 2021 GX. Love it, wife would denature me with a spoon if I attempted to modify it, but I'm so happy with its performance. Great to see an Albertan youtube.
This is awesome man. I use to love doing this stuff in my P38 RR. Then I was the one needing to be rescued when she was sitting on the bump stops and or the fuel pump going out at stoplight. I'm in the Market to get a 19 GX460 right now. I do like the older ones though. I think the older ones are better if you really plan on doing alot of off-road/snow mods which I'm not. In Missouri were I live we are actually getting less snow each winter then ever before. Nowadays we get 1 snow storm a year at best. The rest of the winter it's mostly mild and rainy.
I have a 2006 Lexus GX470.. only mechanical issue is that the air ride suspension went out. We replaced it with regular shocks for about $600. Fuel economy with 265/70/17 tires is about 15mpg. ATRAC system is perfect for Big Bear winters.. Cons: middle console, Nav system (horrible), third row seats and the CD video player system. We have about 225,000 miles on it and I would definitely drive it to the North Slope in AK tomorrow if I had to .it is super reliable.
A solution to your center console may be a swap to one from a LC Prado, they don't have the DVD drive and little armrests on the seats, they have the full size regular console with the big lid that serves as the armrest and it's basically the same truck so it should fit or almost fit...
Nice build, love the look. I am the lucky, original owner of an 07 Land Cruiser with 261,000 trouble free miles. It’s bone stock and crazy capable on or off road. Enjoy your Lexus.
Best looking GX on YT brotha. Your GX makes me want to get one. The bumper is one of the nicest and wheel combo is perfect. Hard decisions between LX and GX. I like the LX for space but your rig alone probably made my decision.
Had my 2008 GX470 just under a year now. It was great in the snow we had a week or so ago with the new Destination AT2 3 peak tires from Firestone. Thinking more of a beach build with mine for Surf fishing . Thinking a medium lift with Old Man Emu. Maybe some Vision Manx wheels.
I tried the 470 but the leg room was too cramped for me, that is my only complain, I got a 570, getting 14.7 mpg but I can live with it. Both SUVs are super top of the line.
Your video is bad ass bro,one of the best I’ve seen. Subscribed immediately, and you also took your time to explain things . Looking fwd to watching more vids. Your channel is definitely going to blow up✊🏽with subscribers. Am definitely recommending your channel to all my boys.
This is so badass. Looks like a stormtrooper transport vehicle. I have a 2010 Lexus IS. My gf is looking to buy a 2018 Tiguan...I told her I'd split an 08 GX with her if she buys that.
That is the Sickest looking GX build I’ve come across, well done. Did you mod the exhaust? When you are powering up the snowy road with the Xmas tree it sounds insanely good.
Thank you very much! Yes I had a muffler delete done by a local muffler shop, there is some drone on the highway so it’s not too bad but you could put a different muffler on to find a happy medium.
Wow I had no idea the MPGs were so bad on these. I get about the same in my supercharged 4runner (5th gen). 12 city, 14 hwy. BUT the GX is still sooooooo damn good. My buddy has one and it performs flawlessly.
I bought a 2003 470 about 6 months ago. I would kill to get that bumper haha. I actually wish the armrests were a bit bigger. For the cup holders I got some black craft foam sheets. Cut them to fit in the bottom of the cup holder to take up space and make your cup more secure
Damn!! What a BEAUTIFUL Tank that is, next to that snow... The FJ is no Joke Either.... Rewarding, the pulling of cars/trucks/Buses.. I've had a ladder on my 4th Gen. But nothing on my GX.. I Love the way that looks...
Definitely do the diff swap, I did on mine using the 150 series prado diff which is basically the equivalent of what you want to use, I also used the Australia Toyota Hilux transfer case on my gearbox to convert it to part time 4wd and I am now just putting in an auto locking front diff locker
I have a 99ltd 4 runner with awd button and 4hi 4 lo and have a spartan auto locker in the front. In hindsight I would do a selectable locker for the front as if I use the awd I can turn but in 4hi or 4lo it won’t turn in the snow. Different rigs but an auto locker in the front sucks

Totally! Thanks for watching!
You know a vehicle is great when your sorest complaint is the center console size :D
😂😂😂
@Lime Life this is a BS argument F150/F250 have great infotainments and easily reach 500k miles without major issues
The biggest complaint is actually the 12 MPG... Go for a diesel Landcruiser that gets 25 MPG
@@hajjdawood anything Ford reaching 500k miles is a miracle. Calling it!
If not a navigation/AC model, a very nice Tesla-like screen kit is available that will transform the 'entertainment/electronics' of the GX.
the FJ and the GX saving the community one pull at a time!
As a fellow GX470 owner, I must say it combines a lot of things for me, ergonomics (nice comfort) and off road capabilities. One of the reasons I bought this SUV, was the side opening door. It helps, if you carry stuff on the roof.

This is an awesome build. Got a GS460 and I can attest that these make great power and have amazing reliability. Dope video!
What's front bumper is that? It's by far the best looking one I've seen
Agree on everything except the seats. I’m 6 foot and 235 lbs and I find the seats to accommodate me very well. The arms rest do feel out of place. I usually use the passenger side arm rest and lift the driver side.
Why not create a video of all of your snow rescues? That would be pretty cool! Very kind of you!!
I have 33 now and seeing how the 35 looks, I know where I'm heading. Thank you your videos are an inspiration
Thank you!

Is that a 4.7 thing or an automatic thing? Tried on my manual FJ and nada
@@ethanglozman1675 It's a 4th Gen 4Runner/1st Gen GX thing. As far as I know as I own both.
My 2013 Tundra is the same. Just need to turn to the start and let go. It'll do its thing.

This one of the most awesome modified GX 460 video on RUclips... Love it
We have two GX470's (2004 & 2009). Best kept secret in off-road/overland platform. No mods to speak of other than RCI skid plates yet. Great vids, great channel. New Subscriber. Thanks!
Agreed and thats awesome! Thanks!
Not a secret any more... hence the prices shooting up
Definitely getting one of these now for an overlanding/road trip family car. I daily a Miata so I don’t care about gas mileage. Just want that space, reliability and off road capability for 7-10 grand.
Love what you've done to your GX! Looks cool! I've got a stock 04, you got me thinking what I could do. Good video!
Thank you for helping someone in need. I have a Pajero Sport with a drawer in the back. It works so well!
Awesome snow wheeling footage ! The bus footage might be a RUclips first.....so cool !
Thanks 👍
We all going to need one like this in the usa because Weather is changing as crazy snowing in the whole Country
That b-roll at the beginning was masterful.

This was awesome especially rescuing the bus, fantastic build with the mean headlights
I think you have the most beautiful GX470. Awesome car!!!
Love the GX, but think u should include lack of power folding mirrors in the cons list.
When you need parts for it or aftermarket stuff, make sure you search for the toyota j120 for this one... and j150 for the gx460.
Also, the J120 with the tyre on the back door, has diff hinges for the door, more heavy duty, make sure you replace those, not sure if the frame is beefed-up...
Also, the centrer arm rest from the J120 fits the GX470, it has a bigger storage space and it is full width...

Definitely looking to pair a GX with the GS and do an off-road build similar. Thank you for this channel (I will refer back to this).
Great vid - I took out the GX in the Texas snow and it was just as good as my Jeep for providing traction!
I did the same here in Dallas! Pulled three vehicles out and never had an issue with traction. What I didn’t foresee was becoming the designated driver for family, friends, and neighbors. It’s a 2019 GX so I hadn’t really had the chance to put it through the hoops until snowmeggedon.
snow in Texas??? How is that possible with Global Warming 🤔 🤪
Can't wait for the snow again this year let's gooo!!!
Same here bro!
I have the LX 470 I love it. Also have a 4Runner third GEN 3.45 speed.
