Congrats!! I got a 2009 GX470 with 262k miles. I have followed your posts since I got it. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you! Will continue to fellow.
Absolutely! I’ve taken it on so many camping trips, road trips, local ventures, you name it. I’ve had new and old friends and family ride around, had many good conversations. And I’ve only owned it for 1/3 of its life-who knows what memories it holds before me?
Call me crazy but I honestly feel like trading in my 2022 GX460 for a later year 470. I don't know what it is, but the more I look at the GX470, I love it more than my car 😅
Both great cars. Very rare that I hear a bad thing about either of them. The 470 seems more rugged while the 460 seems more refined. Can’t go wrong with either.
My fuel door was not popping open. I had to replace the door spring (cheap on amazon) and then tweak the door hinge (just be careful) to get it align better and not rub the opening. Pops open freely now.
Looking good. My 1993 Land Cruiser has 344,000 miles on it and running strong...slow , but strong. I'm selling it for $9000 for anyone in the MD/DE/VA area. Used only on the weekends for beach fishing so triple lockers not used much. It's currently listed on MD/Annapolis Craigslist.
I have a 23 460GX and previously 2005 4R v8. From reading and many posts, it seems the 470GX powerplant is more reliable than the 460GX 4.6 1UR-FE, which has the valley plate coolant, radiator leaks, and timing chain cover leaks, and Trans appears more reliable the 460GX A760F.
1998 ML320 owner here with 340k miles on the clock, runs like new. Handles like a beast on off-road. Will probably last for generations to come! 💪🏼 W163 the king of suburbs
Hey good job. I may have a few ideas for you. For the cup holder get a plate that fits on top and makes the cup holder usable(ebay). As for the dash get a gash mat not 100% perfect but will cover up much of the eyesore. You can also get a cubby that fits the height control switch, The heated seat switch has T10 bulb that can be replaced with green leds
Why didnt you get the rustproofing coating done on this. Its like $100 per year. Bit it makes a huge difference. However i suggest you treat the serious rust spots.
I’ve only owned the car for about 4 years and that’s what rust looked like when I got it. I usually treat it with fluid film before every winter. I’m probably going to get on that soon.
Thanks! Currently on stock tires (265/65R17) and suspension, minus coil springs in the rear instead of stock airbags. However, this may be changing soon 😏 stay tuned
Ahh youre in md as well. what did the rust repair cost you? I have 2 small spots on my frame that could use welding. who did you use to do your control arms? my bushings are shot.
If I remember correctly, the rust repair was somewhere in the $400 range. $450 sounds about right. I had North Harford Automotive do my lower control arms.
@ I have a 150 with a 1GR V6 and I’ve been using Liquimoly Leichtlauf Hightec 5W40 and so far so good. I’m from SEA and Mobil oil here is more expensive than Moly and Castrol. I Was thinking of trying Castrol Edge :)
Honestly any good quality oil is fine with the 2UZFE its a very forgiving engine imo, I’ve tried many Supertech, Pennzoil, Mobil 1, Castro, Chevron all will perform well.
The 4.7 is so durable. Had mine in Sequoia till 192k and didn’t use a drop of oil, traded it in as gas was $4 a gallon at the time and only 12mpg. I hope Toyota/Lexus go away from the modern turbos and back to theirs NA engines.
I'm looking at a 2008 GX470 (194k) to daily drive I'm trading the guy my 2009 bmw 335i coupe as I am looking for something more reliable and practical I'm not concerned with gas I had a 05 Tahoe Z71.
keep it up man , she's just breaking in. just hit 700K this summer on a 4.7
That motor is the legend. Starts like the day it left the lot. Wow
Absolutely. The engine is the real MVP here!
300,000 looks great! Dings are part of life. I got plenty of them on my body with a story to tell for each! Drive on!
True words right there!
Congrats!! I got a 2009 GX470 with 262k miles. I have followed your posts since I got it. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you! Will continue to fellow.
I appreciate it and I’m glad to hear that! They’re truly some of the best cars on the road.
Great work man! Can't wait for the 500k update
Thanks! 500k up next😎
Probably take 12-15 years to get to that mileage. It's more likely to be in an accident that totals it than reach that mileage.
The memories in that vehicle must be something to reflect back on.
Absolutely! I’ve taken it on so many camping trips, road trips, local ventures, you name it. I’ve had new and old friends and family ride around, had many good conversations. And I’ve only owned it for 1/3 of its life-who knows what memories it holds before me?
hopefully you get many more miles. We've hit deer in MD on about every car we've had, stay safe
Love the video! Just got an ‘08 myself and hope it’ll make it as far as yours has!
Thanks! Basic maintenance and care goes a long way
That’s cool you live locally too. I’m right over the line in pa
I’m in PA all the time. Maybe you’ll see me around sometime.
That odometer rollover to 300K was COOL!!!
Super satisfying
OMG thank you for doing all the work upfront before making the video
2003 with 318000 almost at 320000 got a 12 hour trip in a few days 6 hours to 6 hours back. Pray for me lol
Just picked one up at 150K, crazy that these can handle so many miles.
Sweet 🤘🏻 Barely broken in-enjoy it, they’re great rigs!
Keep doing what you doing

id run some valvoline restore and protect engine oil to clean up any carbon that is built up
I’ll have to look into that. Never given it a try personally, but i have heard good things.

It so funny how similar all the problems to new to me 04 233k Gx I just got. Like the cracks on dash and fuel door etc.
It seems that these cars don’t have many issues… but the few that they do have everyone seems to have.
Brother, you are one unique looking dude.
props for the BSA plate !
⚜️🇺🇸🦅

Do you have a link to the door spring? I’m probably going to have to do mine soon, if yours works for you then I’ll probably give it a shot myself.
This is the best looking gx470 I’ve ever seen
Thanks!
you haven’t seen much haha

🤘🏻 easily an all time great vehicle

That’s generally what I’ve heard too. The 460 sounds more refined for sure but seems to have a more leak susceptible powertrain.

They don’t build ‘em like they used to!
@ I agree 🤟🏼
the best generation ml/gle. body on frame
@ yes 🙌🏼

Great tips, thank you! I’ll have to look into some of those. They’d definitely have the interior looking much nicer!
I may have given the wrong information. It's not t10 it's t3 or t4 Sorry about that.
2UZ will never die
Some may even argue the UZs are the best V8s ever made
agree. i think the 2uz is more reliable than the 1ur found in the 460s and 3urs in lc/lx
Yeah so many older lexus car including the first gen model.
the ls is the best v8 ever created
The door vinyl gash can be easily repaired with vinyl patch tape.
Hell yeah let’s go
hey man i know this is a car channel, but you should get a buzz, I think it would look good
I actually got one about a week after i finished recording this
You can get the wheels media blasted and powder coated for a reasonable amount, good for the next 20 years.
I’ll have to see what that would cost. I’d love to have them look new again.
@@mpt.yt4 Yeah me too, mine look much worse than yours, paint is peeling pretty bad.
As for the cup holders I think you might be missing the middle insert that keeps things secure
Believe it or not, the plastic center piece was in there for the video. You can use it to adjust cup width but not grip.
Why didnt you get the rustproofing coating done on this. Its like $100 per year. Bit it makes a huge difference. However i suggest you treat the serious rust spots.

@mpt.yt4 yeah, i hear you but it might be worth treating the really serious rust before you have a compromised structure.
That’s the plan as of now. Rust sucks.
I wash my cars maybe once a year. 2-3 times a week, that paint is strong.
Thank you for sharing the video. Your GX470 looks good over 300k miles. May I know what gas mileage you get? My 2009 GX has between 14-15 mpg.
Thank you!
I usually average 15-16 mpg. The highest I’ve ever gotten on a tank was 18 and the lowest was 11.
I get 12 ish because mine has bigger tires and 3inch lift…
@@TRPyaggiaDamn
*you will bore of the vehicle before it gives you any problems* 😃✌️
I wonder how this vehicle would compare to a 4th gen 4Runner V8?
That sounds like an excellent idea for a future video!
They share pretty much the same frame and chasis I think. For my gx470 I buy Toyota parts that also work the 4runner.
What spring did you use to replace the air bag suspension?
I used an air suspension delete kit from Dorman. Part number DOR-949-540
Looks great. What size tires are those and is it lifted or stock, oem set up?
Thanks!
Currently on stock tires (265/65R17) and suspension, minus coil springs in the rear instead of stock airbags.
However, this may be changing soon 😏 stay tuned

Noticed you use Mobil 1. Have you tried other oils?
I’ve always used Mobil 1 in my GX, never had any issues. In my classics, I run Lucas Oil with zinc. Open to any suggestions though if you have any!

It's a shame about the rust. Other than that, it looks pretty good.
Rust doesn’t discriminate
Its super esay to fluss the power stering system mine LC 120 whid 500 000 km i fluss the power stering 4 times feels like new
I’ll give that a try. Hopefully it’ll get things feeling like new!

Agreed. I’d have to argue it’s one of the best engines they’ve ever made. I hope as well that they go back to NA engines. Simple, tried, and true.
Fluid film and forget about rust.
Sweet pilot😅

bro use fluid film . that's the million mile secret
I’m planning on giving it a good coat soon. You can’t beat that stuff!
@@mpt.yt4 Lots of Fluid Film. You should probably plan on using 6 quarts. Hose down those inner frame rails too
As long as there is no rust and you keep giving it 5k oil changes I don’t see why this car won’t easily last 600k miles
That’s the goal!
5000 miles no matter highway or city if city 3000 max
My gx is sitting at 305k. These hogs are strong
Dude, that face decoration needs some grooming. Be proud of your image as much lexus is of your suv.
