OUCH -- I have a 95 Dodge Ram Cummins with a manual tranny I bought new with 320K miles -- Replaced the clutch at 250k -- usually the automatic trans have problems.
Randy seems like a all around handy man he doesn't seem to mind whatever you give him to do he gets right in their and helps Randy give Kevin a few lessons 😮 😊😊😊thanks guys
OUCH -- I have a 95 Dodge Ram Cummins with a manual tranny I bought new with 320K miles -- Replaced the clutch at 250k -- usually the automatic trans have problems.
I can't believe there is not some kind of a metal mesh on the breather hole to prevent rodent or some other infestation getting in there. We have faith in you getting this done. 👍
I wasn't surprised to see you tackle this, but without a parts explosion to show what goes where it is a more difficult task. As you pointed out, taking it apart is the easy half of the repair. I am eager to see you get it all back together and working. I expect to see you driving it soon.
Great content, yeah, keep doing stuff like this. Not a Ford or Dodge fan, but I dig the technology put into these things these days and seeing them being worked on instead of just plug and play is educational for me at least
Clint, As a retired accountant, my early exposure to a small engine class in jr high gave me the basics of a combustion engine, but your knowledge and the ease which you display in a wide range of problems amazes me. Your expertise in your craft is right up there with any Masters or PhD in the academic world and so much more refreshing in today's hyper charged political society. God bless you and your family.
Really enjoy this type of video Clint! Have seen tons of automatic transmission teardowns but your Manual was really interesting to see. Hope it goes back together ok and your up and running again soon. Love your banter with Kevin but enjoyed seeing Randy stepping in. He is a heck of a worker. Well done. PS I had to laugh when you said you didn't know if you were going to tear it down...I knew that there was no way we weren't seeing the inside of that transmission!! LOL
Really great content. hard to believe there's that many little parts all assembled in there. The engineering that goes into something like a 6 speed transmission just amazes me.
You inspired me to move my car. I've been parking next to two abandoned cars in our apartment complex for a year now and started smelling mouse pee a couple days ago. After seeing your $13,000 bill I am moving to the other side of the parking lot now.
I'm the Shop Foreman at a large Ram dealer in the Chicago area. We would have gladly replaced your trans. That unit does not require pre-authorization. There is a law that states the manufacturer must prove a modification cause a cover component to fail. They will lose in court, you should have call the customer care number for assistance. And you being a celebrity! I just but a Rotary 12k per column list like yours. It was 51k!!!!
I like seeing the detail teardowns (and reassembly) as long as they include explanations of what each part is and does. Especially the parts that are damaged or bad or otherwise the reason for the teardown.
A couple of years after Dodge came out with the Cummins, was talking with a fellow in Utah at a rest stop, asked him about the pickup, his answer: “Engine is great, everything Dodge has broken once some places twice”.
“we don’t need no stinkin manuals” (slightly revised line from an old movie classic “Blazing Saddles”). Clinton, I know from watching your videos over the year or two, that you can take apart, and re-assemble any Cat or John Deere (and probably any other heavy equipment brand) transmission…, with your eyes closed…, and I think I know, that you probably haven’t tore into or apart, one of these Mercedes transmissions…, in your lifetime… I say all of the above to say, that this video is just amazing to see. You have “no fear”, it is pretty impressive & awesome to see that in action, which is why I keep watching, and I suspect is why you have the viewership that you do. Course the alternative of $13K spent at the dealership, might have been a motivator too… hahaha.! If I didn’t say it already, Great video..! Looking forward to the follow-up video. Thank you sir.
You just showed us how much having the right equipment and people really mean to a repair shop, and no, I wasn't bored. I wanted to see more. Why is it that all the GREAT RUclipsRS do us like this. Your shop is on my "Wish I could visit List." GREAT informative Video.
Grew up on a farm, dad fixed what needed to be fixed. Back in the late '60's a local firm sold dad an International truck they were trying to use as a semi but it kept blowing third gear. It finally blew one time too many and they offered it to dad at a "get it out of here" price. His mechanic opened the transmission up and found the blown gears. The sale had included replacement gears; mechanic found they were putting the gears in backwards, leading to the failure. Dad put a grain bed on it and ran it for 20 years.
Go to a restaurant supplier and get a selection of baskets. Good luck, I would be over my head with this project. I'm amazed that those big sincro parts didn't crash up the case. Carry on.
Wash Guy Randy is handy around the shop, looks like he is right there with a helping hand. I'm eager to see the assembly half coming up. Thanks again for the eductional video, 😂👍Mr. C.
For a wArranty voided truck with 21k and not a single hot check mark on the pressure plate, flywheel or spacer plate sure says a lot about your driving habits.. 👏👏👏👏
I like watching someone else repair this kind of stuff , it helps me remember why I want nothing to do with this stuff any more , lol . The mouse had nothing to do with the trans carnage , this was caused by the aluminum trans case flexing when put under the severe load of moving heavy loads . Way back in '63 Chevy tried going to aluminum case Muncie four speeds , instead of the cast iron Borg Warner T10s behind the 409s , it didn't work out so well . The Ford top loaders and Mopar A833s were cast iron case trans for a reason .
You guys make it look like a job takes 20 mins when in reality😂😂😂😂 its 2 days work for most people.... love your content keep on trucking on . Peace nlovefromCumbriaUK❤🇬🇧
My those Rodents certainly cause some carnage to vehicles & equipment. Great video by the way, love to see you Guys getting in to some serious tear-down, and repair projects. All the best from the Robin Hood County in the U.K.
Using your video to remember how to put it back together is a good idea. That way there are no extra parts when everything is put back together. I think a lot of us have done that.
I live out in mouse country and first thing to go is the engine cover for just thus reason. They seem to like the warm engine in the winter, all you can do is try to take as many hiding places away as you can and pray.
It amazes me. There’s nothing your boys don’t work on your leader is the best. Watching never gets boring. Thanks for all the extra you do Clint. ❤️👍🍺🇺🇸
The aluminum was badly oxidized by the alkali cleaner. You do not want to use regular detergent on aluminum. You need to use an acid cleaner like a citrus based cleaner instead.
Glad you documented all this. Might double check with your insurance... comprehensive insurance should cover it if it is caused by wild animals. Appreciate all the videos and sharing your wealth of information!
Randy is the BEST GOFOR you could Wish for allways there, allways in the background working away , i hope you REALLY APPRECIATE HIM. GIVE HIM A RAISE BUY HIM A BEER WELL DONE RANDY
Thanks Clinton, My friends and I tried to take a transmission apart in 1967 and finally gave up and bought a replacement and decided to never go down that road again! Kudos to you and Randy. I watch all your videos but this one did bring back some bad memories.
Most all of the RAM 3500s (the bucket trucks plus the one dog catcher truck) in my garage are on their 2nd transmissions. The mechanics said they were spec'd to use a cab and chassis that couldn't really handle the weight of the single stage boom/utilty bodies we use but that doesn't explain why the dog catcher truck's trans crapped out twice. There are 3 Cummins RAM buckets used by my fellow splicers and those things just keep on rolling with no major problems.
Been in the RV business for for 30 years, Ive seen this allot, real common for mice to get in the Onan generators and build nest under blower housing, then you start the generator breaks the plastic fingers that picks up the magnetism , Easy fix to stop this, put moth balls in side your frame rails, and put some in the generator compartment , just a small amount will do the job .
I’m not even doing the work and I’m completely overwhelmed. Maybe if I had Randy sitting here next to me I’d feel better about it. Can’t wait for the next installment.
As a former Disney employee, during college days, my expert knowledge tells me that you brought home a unwanted souvenir from the “MOuSE House” in Florida. I wonder if they can you a sponsorship for a free stay. Keep up the good work.
It's good to see a manual transmission be9ing overhauled. I ( for one ) enjoy watching this type of content. Yes, would be my vote on a couple of these videos every now and then.
Yes, I always like to see everything that you show it doesn’t matter whether or not it’s the golf cart to the shopping, tearing part anything and putting it together you and Kevin and the crew always makes me laugh and find something to either break destroy run over and then fix it if it’s fixable love everyone there keep it up I’ll always be in tune
You made it Farther than mine did. My brand new 2023 3500 Ram made it 2600 miles. Transmission toast. And now it’s down and they don’t know when they will be able to get the parts to fix it
Amazing content as always..Clint your never one to shy away anything no matter what it is this carnage is no different and to think mice did the damage...have a talk with the cats when you get home and discuss disciplinary actions for them not doing there job. 🤣 Hope it's not to costly to get it back together and look forward to your next video.. always a pleasure to watch and always learning by your example. Appreciate all you share😎🛠️🇺🇸🚜🔧🐁
I'd guess you can't blame the cats because the truck is parked outside where the cat's aren't. I'd definitely MacGyver a mouse proof screen for the vent though.
Great job on tear down. I was retired military missile system tech. I did allot of hydraulic tear down ,gear box servicing. Love watching you guys just figuring it out.
With all the bad things I’ve heard about Ram trucks, it’s amazing anyone even buys them! However, my auto parts girl loves them. Says they keep her in business!
Randy's are getting so difficult to find C & C Equipment has a employee that is rare and very enjoyable to watch work without being told everything twice
Enjoyed the video, Your thought process behind diagnosis/reason for failure, tear down, parts failure, parts order. Saved a bunch of $ with your excellent skills.
Loved seeing videos like this, but sorry it took your local dealerships refusal to complete warranty work. Dealerships have a lot of leeway in warranties. I would remember this when the next new truck or car purchase happens.
Love to see you put it back together. Used to watch the transmission guy in Texas, but seemed like he only disassembled and none of them ever went back together. Best Regards
He never showed any videos of them going back together so he didn't give away all of his secrets. He is back to making a few videos now, but just had major shoulder surgery.
Might be a little late for a comment on this,, lol 😂 but it’s brilliant how much u do just too show us how things get taken apart and put back together,, well done too all of the crew,,
I love to see somebody else fumbling with parts. Your experience level is way up thar. I wish you luck... I thought you were a Ford man now I find you messin with that Dodge!!!!
Had a nissan mechanic pull fill hose out of washer reservoir and then quoted over $100 to replace leaking washer reservoir that he made happen. I removed the 10mm bolt, lifted the reservoir neck up and put it back in place. 2 minutes to fix a problem tech caused to increase sales in service.
I think it’s fantastic know one fix’s their own stuff anymore you tearing into a manual transmission not knowing the specific of that transmission is great. The best thing I learned in life is don’t be afraid to just dive in. The best way to learn is to just take things apart and see how they work you learn a lot more that way love the videos keep going 😊
Just love the variety that you show, Keep posting more of the same please. Your audience is getting larger and hungrier for more of the same. Respect from Scotland.
I don’t think the mouse was the cause just another separate issue. I’ve had my g56 apart a few times. Order a shim kit also. Take your old bearings and turn down the outside race so they slip into the case and use them to set the end play then put the new race in. I was able to measure the end play through the pto hole for the counter shaft. I’ve had mine apart 3 times now at 225k on it
Saaay whhhaaat, ya called that a transsmasher ya say! 🙄😏 it’s sad they stopped putting Manual transmissions in what they call trucks today. I like seeing the process, start to finish, keep it coming. Thanks for the tag along video, I sure enjoyed it.
I did not know that 2018 was the last year for manual transmissions. I brought a new Dodge in 2007 with the G56 transmission and the 5.9 Cummins. Currently I have just over 16K miles on the truck, 2500 4x4 extend cab.
Very interesting to see how you can take just about anything apart. You new helper seems to be a lot. More quieter than you old cold manage to be. Transmission work fasenates me glad you showed us that
When I went to auto mechanics training in 1972 I got a lower grade because I called that@6:18 a throwout bearing, was told that's the back yard mechanic's term for it ,the proper name was clutch release bearing, so I got an automatic and did away with it.
The process is interesting to me, because the last time I helped take a transmission apart was at least 50 years ago, and a 3-speed was a lot simpler than that. (Even with that, I realized quite quickly that transmission work was not going to be for me.)🙄
Well, much respect to you two for even making the attempt. I've rebuilt engines and diffs, put in clutches, etc but never attempted a transmission rebuild. Lots of times a repair manual will even omit that whole section and tell you to have a specialist rebuild it for you!
I like seeing any and all things that you take apart and put back together. The more detail the better. I'm retired with nothing better to do than to watch you tube.
Every shop needs a Randy, always there to help on every project, and when everyone else is stood around talking Randy is sweeping up. Respect to him.
Excellent comment 100% 👍🏻
We've got a Randy at the quarry I work at, hus name actually is Randy too. Always there to help, does his job just fine, super dependable.
OUCH -- I have a 95 Dodge Ram Cummins with a manual tranny I bought new with 320K miles -- Replaced the clutch at 250k -- usually the automatic trans have problems.
Absolutely, love seeing Randy in the videos

.....it's no wonder so many vehicles catch fire for "no reason" & never figured out why......
randy is old school.. never stand around. grab a broom..keep on truckin..my kind of man... well done..
Yep always

At least someone does lol
Count me in too - therapeutic for me after a full day of crazy stress. Thank you for content and helping some like me to decompress safely.
I find this type of video utterly fascinating in spite of the fact that i will never attempt such a repair!
Great content, yeah, keep doing stuff like this. Not a Ford or Dodge fan, but I dig the technology put into these things these days and seeing them being worked on instead of just plug and play is educational for me at least
I love how clean and organised you keep the shop. A clean shop always says a lot about the type of work a shop does.
So true!
Clint, don't worry about a boring video. You haven't made one yet and I don't think you ever will.
Clint,

Enjoy this type of program. You are dealing with something beyond my mechanical ability-so, it’s educational!
One thing about pulling the transmission that often none of the bolts are rusted solid and impossible to loosen without some heat!! Good job!
That would be because the auto factory’s love to use lock tight on everything that they don’t need to use on. Even a m3 bolt they lock tight 🙄

nd to think those early sixty's transmissions were very much simpler than any today.
Brings back bad memories of my 3500 Dodge experiences.
Most all of the RAM 3500s (the bucket trucks plus the one dog catcher truck) in my garage are on their 2nd transmissions. Your good for sure
At about 9:15 I could see and hear a big chunk drop out. Buddy had a mouse chew up all the wirers on his 4 wheeler. They can destroy a lot.
For what it's worth..This ol'dude appreciates these more detail oriented videos..
Ha, watching the video would only prolong my inability to put that back together! Good video, good project Clint. Thanks for taking us along.

Very interesting to see how you can take just about anything apart. You new helper seems to be a lot. More quieter than you old cold manage to be. Transmission work fasenates me glad you showed us that
Yup, keep up the good work. Like watching you pull things apart and seeing the carnage as you tear things apart
Those lifts are awesome!
This is the first time I’ve seen a G56 torn apart very interesting.
(Even with that, I realized quite quickly that transmission work was not going to be for me.)🙄
I did that on a rambler 3speed with over drive one of the ball bearings went bad.
Love your channel Clinton, I am watching all your old ones now as I watch all your newer ones., HA! HA! you guys are all down to earth people!!!!.
