- As soon as the woman saw the couple called 911, the suspected porch pirate tried to escape. Her truck was blocked in the driveway, so she drove through the lawn. Not long after, police arrested 41-year-old Brownsburg resident Melissa Solomon and charged her with theft and criminal mischief.

She driving that expensive truck, and stealing a package worth maybe $10. It's just pure greed at this point. There's no necessity. Pure greed.
her man prob owns the truck
They cause a lot of trouble for people for little gain for themselves. They likely can't use what is in the package and likely has little resale value.

She probably lives paycheque to paycheque, being dumb enough to get a 1,000$ car note that she can't afford
Possibly, but some also do it for the thrill. I know of way too many people who do stupid and dangerous things simply because they want that rush of adrenaline. As someone like me, who tries to play things safe, I'll never understand those people who would put their health, safety, freedom, or their very lives on the line for a cheap thrill.
They should start a registry for people caught stealing from homes and porch pirates
Yessss, don’t understand things like why there’s a sx registry but not for other crimes??
I agree I had some items stolen off my porch. It’s not a good feeling at all. I live alone and was kinda scared for a while.

Public shaming is highly underrated.
Do you know how much the average billboard costs??? Criminals commit crimes every single day! How often do you think this billboard should be updated? How safe would it be for motorists to read a list of criminals on a big billboard while driving down the hwy? Billboards are billed monthly and are not cheap depending on your area/region. Calling commen thieves "porch pirates " is letting them off way too easy. Whether they are breaking into your home or stealing off your porch makes no difference! A thief is a thief, call the cops! This thief just violated your property!
And keep in mind, what they're doing is a Felony. It doesn't matter what the item is worth, stealing someones mail, be it from their porch or from the mail box is a federal crime.
It’s all by design of the media to use neutral language in describing these criminals to humanize what they’re doing and make what there doing appear less scummy. It’s the same as the media calling people who are involved in organized retail theft boosters instead of thieves.

Love the note on the door!
I was an Amazon delivery driver and loved it(hope I can go back to that job one day) and I was always afraid of leaving packages on the front porch of houses. But we have to put them where the customers notes say to leave it. Even if it’s out front. People, please have your packages delivered to the back or something. Out of view from the road or anyone walking etc. if you don’t want your packages stolen, have them delivered to the back of the house somewhere.
Yeah, I agree! Wouldn't ir be great if Amazon drivers in my area followed directions 🙄 We finally caught and peacefully confronted one of them, and he told my husband that he should stay home to wait for the packages instead 😮😂
I bought a security box big enough to handle any packages i order. Now when the delivery person comes they still leave the package by the front door and refuse to leave it in the security box. My next move is to buy a secure mail box and install in front of house for the postman. Already saw one person actually open my mail box and look inside.
My house has 2 big columns on the porch. The bright delivery people usually leave the package by the side wall, besides one of the columns, which make the packages to not be visible to people driving/walking by. The careless ones leave the package in the wide-open, right at the front of the door for all to see.
It would help if the delivery instructions were actually followed. Out of the last 12 that had to be left, only 3 followed the safe place to leave instructions
I wish I could get packages delivered to my house, but I live down 3 miles of dirt road that would take an extra 20 minutes out of the driver's day, just for one package. Even if they did deliver here, I wouldn't ask them to because I don't feel like it would be fair to the driver.
Sick and tired of these package thieves!!! 😡

Coincidentally enough Amazon now offers that service. Give them your garage door code and they will put your stuff in a lockbox in your garage.

I can't stand theives, and Porch Pirates, especially. There's something so low about driving around, stealing packages from door steps.

not as low as supporting a company like amazon instead of a local store. these porch theives r doing God's work if there were more of them we could take amazon down from all the stuff they would have to send back out. go to the store stop buying online
I'm so confused by this phenomenon. The vast majority of the stuff I order online is of low value and specific to my needs, so what would someone gain from stealing it? Are they just hoping to score that 1-in-100 chance that someone ordered jewelry or electronics? It seems like a big risk for a little gain.
When the thief drives a $40,000+ pickup truck... 🥴

This is breakdown of society. When people who can afford a truck have to steal a package
Dealerships are glad for buyers to make payments, six years of payments if that's what it takes to put you in a vehicle.
That was a very graceful sentiment at the end.
well done, mom!! you didn't just help yourself but the whole community.
Thieves must be held accountable
Package collection centers. A secure facility to pick up items and Ship return items. Unfortunately as things continue to go down home theft will rise.
UPS and FED Ex used to require a signature. When shipping increased and that policy ended, and their daily package numbers increased, thieves jumped at the new opportunities. It made theft easier.
I've lived in a lower income neighborhood (a mobile home park, to be exact) for almost 8 years now, and haven't had a single package stolen. I suspect many porch pirates target more affluent neighborhoods.
I’m glad things worked out the way they did because this could have easily turned into a life threatening situation if the thief had been armed.

@@ashton8878 R u being serious right now?
People think: "Oh, it's a big house. They can just buy another item. This is nothing to them." NO.
One of the most broke holiday seasons we ever had was in a $2 million dollar home. It belonged to a friend of a friend, who let us stay there to help get it ready to sell after both his wife and daughter took their own lives inside. He couldn't bear being there for even a second, and my husband and I were both were laid off after i came down with a life-threatening illness and my husband was in a major car accident. We chose not to hang a sign on the front door explaining all of this, so nobody would have guessed that we didnt have any money. My son was only 18 months old and luckily was most thrilled by the boxes and wrapping paper that wrapped his mostly dollar tree gifts. I cant imagine if he were older. I know, teaching the meaning of christmas is most important, not gifts. But come on. Its disappointing. I felt so worthless. So that reasoning for targeting nicer neighborhoods is infuriating to me. I dont care if the homeowner had millions. It's wrong. It feels horrible to be stolen from, especially at home. No matter how much the item was worth, you never quite feel as safe. Security and peace of mind is priceless. Jokes on them, because someday they will lose at least as much as they have taken.

Thank you for not blurring out the plate.
My sister in law and her bf were in an accident where the person who hit them took off afterwards and just like the state trooper told them after they chased the person, “it’s too dangerous for you to chase a person who has obviously committed a crime because they’re obviously desperate and could do anything to get away, including pulling a gun on you”. While I understand people wanting to chase a person down, leave it to the police. All they needed was the tag number and make of the vehicle so it worked out regardless
