    The Agromech thing reminds me of the story of a bunch of farmers planning to fight a bandit with a slow, damaged mech (they thought it was a heavy mech; it was an Urban,) with an Agromech loaded with a bunch of shitty weapons and missiles, and the bandit just kills them all off-screen and takes their money so he can get off-world eventually.
    I love those kinds of stories, because it helps make clear just how terrifying the equipment of the Great Houses, and Star League before them, actually is.

    Fun Fact: The Voice Actor that Tex compliments in this video is Christopher Eck from the dev team at HBS. He earned his spot in the game (Yes, you can find a special pilot w/the callsign "Eck") by going undefeated through the 2 in-house tournaments they ran right before launch. They recorded many of the lines during an episode of DFA: The Battletech RPG over on Hyper RPG. They took his headshot that is in the game that night, as well. Oh, and his callsign on the show is Faust. ("I'm your Huckleberry." Is my fav line from the night.)
    Incidentally, the voice of Glitch was recorded during the same session. I can't recall her name. She was part of the original cast, but left to do a gig. She's been back a couple times, since. When you play the Flashpoint "Bourbon and Battlemechs" her mech is the Centurion, "Mr. Sparklepants". Her origin story was that she was a Solaris VII Gladiator. Turned out she was actually a Harlequinn. Nasty way to die......

      Man, DFA was awesome*. And a fun reminder of how canon can be flexed a bit to make a fun game around the table. Each of the (many) times Talon got shot out of his cockpit only to scale another mech and hijack it mid-combat, it was pointed out how virtually impossible it is in the real setting... but his player just kept rolling awesomely, so how could they NOT let it happen?
      *Except that one with Ryon Day as the guest OpFor of the week. The cast was unbelievably pissed with him after that one.

    • @kmcd6140
      @kmcd6140 3 года назад +4

      @@patrickcoyle5469 I believe it was only twice, but, yes, absolutely. Connor started out so stiff, but he was really quite good by the end. And the whole "You can't kill me" right into the camera definitely got the channel a few bucks.
      I have it on good authority that the cast HATED "Daddy", but they had a lot of fun with Ryon. Ahh, the well crafted villain. ;)

      @@kmcd6140 Was it only twice? I guess it's an easy mistake to make... especially if the characters kept bringing it up. And hell, even doing it once is a story that'll be told every chance it has.

    Definitely use jumping and cover more - pilot everything like a 3025 Grasshopper mechwarrior on speed - except your LRM boats - those just find some nice hill to sit behind - preferably near some water.
    The Shadowhawk is an amazing SRM boat - 2 x SRM6 - 1 x SRM 4 in the head - load it up with armor, acuators, jump jets and some small lasers and go to town - it has a punch damage quirk - the rarer 2D variant has an additional support weapon - which is so nice!
    I'm a fan of the Periphery - I'd definitely like to hear more of your thoughts about the outer states, Interstellar Expeditions, the Explorer Corps and the deep periphery. The Jolly Rodger Affair almost deserves it's own Tex Talk - #$%^ing ComStar!

    i'm not sure if you know this or not Tex sir, but if you want to max your salvage you need to use called shots to target cockpit or legs -> if you destroy only both legs you'll get 2 parts, if you only destroy the cockpit you'll get the full mech. If you see a mech you want you should try to attack it with only called shot to the cockpit (if possible, facing it directly : it spreads the missed shot and avoids destroying an arm as much as possible) and hope for the lucky shot. Hope you're having fun anyway, always a pleasure to watch and listen to your stories :)

    The Taurians are my favorite major faction entirely because of their love of independence, and the insane lengths they'll go to protect it, including nuking themselves in the Reunification War just to deny resources to the Star League. I like to imagine the SLDF invaders were greeted by whole continents of charred glass and ash, millions of blackened skeletons buried underneath, their hands and upraised middle fingers sticking out just above the surface.
    Then there's the Special Asteroid Support Forces, infantry trained to jump out from behind rocks and fight hand-to-hand against goddamn warships.
    And there's the highest literacy rate anywhere, because words and ideas are freedom's best weapons. The nukes and crazy space men are for people who don't listen politely.

      @@geoffdewitt6845 Doctor Banzai is the enigmatic scientific genius polymath leader of the Merc company Team Banzai (a team of super genius mech pilots and scientists - for example their Orion pilot Yvonne Morticia also pilots their drop ship and commands the Nth Dimension - the team's private jump ship). He's a doctor (specializing in prosthetics after he was wounded in battle) but is well versed in many scientific disciplines. He's an ace mech pilot and commander. He formed his team around 3015 and they've only ever worked for House Davion and Doctor Banzai served as a personal advisor to Hanse Davion. He also was instrumental in the founding of the New Avalon Institute of Science. When his unit is not in combat, they all teach advanced classes at the Institute. And (this might be a clue) he's a friend of Jamie Wolf and Natasha Kerensky (leading to wild theories that he and many on his team are actually clan science caste who came with Wolf and, like Cranston Snord, hare off on their own). He reportedly designed the Hatchetman (according to the 3025 Technical Readouts). He also runs a company (closely associated with the NAIS) called the Banzai Weapons Design Company that developed the Starfire fighter for Davion with modular weapons that gave Davion a leg up reverse engineering Clan Omnimech technology, and it was Team Banzai who also created the first Inner Sphere version of Clan's powered armor.
      In 3029, ComStar sent in a surprise raid of mechs disguised as Liao's Death Commandos to destroy the NAIS with bonus objectives of nailing Hanse and Banzai (since they were threatening to recover too much LosTech and throw off the whole Comstar-steps-in-and-saves-the-day-when-the-rest-of-the-Sphere-goes-to-hell-in-a-handbasket plan). But Davion and Banzai both rally their units and fight them off (and figure out that it was really ComStar, but they keep that card close to their vests, so to speak.)
      Team Banzai was later renamed the New Avalon Cavaliers during the Jihad when the Blakists orbitally bombard the NAIS (see how much ComStar HATES the NAIS?). But this was mostly to avoid IRL copyright problems with the makers of the 1984 cult classic, "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" because the Doctor B. Banzai in BattleTech is a -complete rip-off of- homage to Buckaroo Banzai with several members of Team Banzai even named after the characters or the actors in the movie.
      And, that's not the "highlights". That's pretty much all we know about him. There's a short paragraph on Team Banzai in the original MechWarrior rule book and references to Yvonne Morticia and Banzai designing the Hatchetman in the 3025 Technical Readouts, and the 3026 Technical Readouts talks about the Starfire's Banzai-developed modular weapons. The Battle of New Avalon is related in the novel "Warrior: Riposte". But there really isn't a lot of information about him and his team. Sarna.net doesn't even have a page on him - and, to my knowledge - there's no official illustration of him, they don't even describe his appearance (I assume because he's supposed to look like Peter Weller in a bowtie instead of his Robocop costume - even though Dr. Banzai does specialize in cybernetics . . .).

If so, what on earth is the in-lore justification for the limitation of what the Mercs being hired can bring to do the job you hired them for?

      Humanity has never officially found any aliens. The ones you mentioned have been the only ones to ever appear in a novel. Even those are who knows how far away because you need to mis-jump to even get to that system. Of course if that happens your not coming home again. When the Clans invaded the Inner Sphere they were suspected to be an invading alien race.

    The problem with this game is the utter laziness of the developers.
    Your weapons shoot in a straight line through terrain, unit models and obstacles. With almost no impact on hit chance or locations.
    The enemy ai is WORTHLESS. The opfor simply rushes head long at you with NO concern for keeping them selves alive or limiting damage. Even the most expensive heavy lrm boat will charge at you, head on, firing like a capellan light banzai charge.
    The mission structure is JUST APPALLING;
    -you fight a lance of heavies...
    -you move forward one step and trigger "reinforcements"
    -you now have two lances of heavies, versus your lance of mediums.
    - you now loose.
    If the devs weren't so mind bogglingly lazy or greedy (the dlc is worthless) they could have come up with something. They did not.

      @@honeybadger6275 Yeah, if they do end up making a sequel at some point, they absolutely need to use a better game engine. Unity can do a lot of things, but the memory leaks and load times are horrible. Like I said, mods fix a lot of the issues with the gameplay, but they also make Unity’s shortcomings a lot worse.
      Maybe they could’ve possibly fixed those issues with patches and better coding, but they never did.

      @@Logan912 I don't believe unity was wholly at fault. Pretty sure owlcat games made the 2 pathfinder games and thewh40k rogue trader games on unity. I've played them quite a bit and none of them suffer from the memory leak issues/horrendous load times like battletech. I honestly think the devs just implemented their systems wrong on that game. And pathfinder kingmaker came out the same year battletech did so its likely using the same or a very close build of unity.

    I must be dumb on playing this game or something but I managed to get to this part with 3 marauders and an archer, everything was raking in 1m c bills per contract while stomping anything under 50 tons in one CT shot. Moral of the story is it apparently pays to overstay your welcome in the prologue, it seems to break the balance of the whole thing.
