- I have been getting some questions about how to sort your units into different factions, building on some of the topics I covered in the Getting Started with Battletech Alpha Strike For Dummies (its me, I'm the Dummy) video. Being the helpful guy I am (and definitely not because I'm using it as an excuse for quick content) I thought I'd make a quick video on this matter.

Heartily Agree! You can see a couple of destroyed merc units I tapped to repaint. I have since found other suitable models to replace them with, just to save me some work, but I was willing to do it!
Or hastily painting over unit markings on “rightfully acquired” second hand mechs!
whats the faction for anti-clan rebel groups that might form on earth during this ilclan era
None canonically, yet at least, but it'd be easy to say there's a group of ex-Republic troops who formed a rebel group!
On earth, none that I know of yet. One I have been reading on though that is anti-Ilclan though, are the Rasalhague Dominon "Deniers" that voted against following the lead of the Ilclan, due to them wanting to preserve their fusion of Ghost Bear and Rasalhague Republic culture. The Ilclan wants to force them back into the caste system, so there is a pretty even split amongst the Dominion on the old-school clanners that want to follow, called "Joiners", and the Deniers. Like @derekburge5294 said, you could also assume that there are remnants of Republic forces continuing on as insurgencies or something. I'd just use the Republic faction if you wanted to represent these.
I just ordered a bunch of books on the subject so keep an eye out, I'm gonna try and do some research and put together some lore videos on the subject in the coming year! The question is, where to start? Should I go through the entire Dark Ages, or just skip forward to the fall of the Republic?

This ilclan era is way more interesting then whatever the dark age was trying to do
I would make a small correction... I don't think any of the great houses want a third star league, they are all just so beleaguered between external pressure and internal strife to mount an effective defense/offense.
I won't get into it too much more, as I have a lot more research to do, but I definitely agree the course correction away from the dark age is a lot more interesting.
@@MatanuskaMechworks The houses are going to eventually be competing for favor because for another star league-style collapse to happen Clan Wolf has to be allowed to accumulate a lot of power first. The small power vacuum in the hinterlands might be a form of foreshadowing
