    Wow that is alot of plants! Good thing you have some friends helping you! I have maybe 3 varieties of each vegetablee I'm growing and it gets me worn out after planting about 12 plants at a time! I live in Georgia which is a similar climate to yours and last year tomato horn worms got all over my tomato plants and ate a bunch of the leaves and stems so I put 7 dust on them and that got rid of them for the rest of the summer and fall. I also put slug bait granules out when I see slugs or holes that look like they'e been eating seedling leaves close to the round. This year I also use Surround kaolin clay. It saved my peaches and tomatillos from being decimated by bugs!

    Tomatoes need lots of air circulating around the plants.. The further apart you space your plants, the better off they will be.. You don't want leaves touching leaves or vines touching vines or even leaves touching vines really.. Moisture gets trapped anywhere green matter touches.. The plants need to be able to breath.. You do need leaves to shade the fruits from the sun though, and to make energy to grow the fruit.. Only prune back your suckers and diseased leaves.. I used to grow my tomatoes on cattle panels just like you do.. You cant really spread them out properly on a cattle panel to get enough air circulation.. So a few years ago I ran an 8 foot tall pipe clear across my garden.. Then dropped twine down from the pipe to clip my tomato plants to.. It's a little more work but it's worth it.. I have totally control of the positioning of each vine.. I can spread them out as far apart as I need to.. I've found that 3 feet between indeterminate plants is about perfect.. I only plant 17 plants total in a 50 foot row.. Sometimes less equals more.. If you over crowd your plants and they all die early you wont get as many tomatoes as you would from fewer plants that lived for the entire season..

    This was a very informative video! Thank you!!! ❤ Can you let me know why your tomatoes are pruned so aggressively?…barely any leaves. You may know a trick I don’t 😅

      Haha, cause it's so humid here... for me, it's to fight diseases. Plus, I've heard farmers say it's OK to prune up until the first set of fruit, haha, but im just trying it... so far so good

    DOM!!! Ty for answering my question ❤. I was curious because seeing so many varieties made me wonder why I only stick with a few types of green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, etc. I think I need to branch out more. I loved seeing the purple cayenne’s in your other video, too.

    I am the SAME way with raw tomatoes. I grow a ton as well. Not as many as you. But, I love salsa and cooked tomatoes in sauces, ketchup, rotel, BBQ. I have started getting a taste for a few raw. I really like the black cherry tomatoes.

    How do you prevent your tomatoes from getting sun scald after cutting off all the leaves?

    • @faithfamilyhomestead
      @faithfamilyhomestead  Месяц назад +1

      I don't prevent it... I think the direction of the sun helps them from not getting sun scald

    Hey Dom. I was looking at plant clips on Amazon because I kind of like your clips. I look to see if you had an affiliate link but do not see one. If you put one up, I’ll use it. Also, would appreciate your thoughts on how fast you use them and how many a tiny backyard should use to start ❤

      This is what I bought last time because I used my 100 pack. I've clipped each plant probably 3 times each already. If you need a smaller pack, let me know. This just seemed best for the money

    So hanging the tomato's up off the ground, will that help with the bug situation?

    • @faithfamilyhomestead
      @faithfamilyhomestead  Месяц назад +1

      It won't help with tomato horn worms because they crawl all over the vines, but it does help keep the tomatoes from other bugs and helps with airflow
