We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired! Развлечения
We found your channel about a week ago and have been binge watching your videos. In three weeks, my wife and I and our seven kids will be closing on our first home on 10 acres! It has been our dream to have our own homestead and watching your videos over the last week has gotten us all so excited and inspired to start this new chapter.
Congrats!!
Where did you ever find 10 acres?
Congratulations, wishing you success with your new property.
@@eb1684 in Florida outside Jacksonville. Very blessed to have found the property!
Congrats! This Sounds like potential for a very cool channel 😉
everyone makes fun of me for walking barefoot in my garden, I have to explain every time that dirt doesn't hurt and that grounding is a real thing. Seeing I'm not the only one that does that is awsome!
Cody, I don't know your mom but when I see you using the cultivator thingy I even think of your mom now!!!!
I planted wildflowers and saved the seed pods in the fall. It made a five gallon bucket full to throw everywhere I want to and help the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds!
Second the suggestion of cosmos for pollinators for that lovely, lovely garden of yours. It is such a pleasure to watch your channel.
I wish i could walk outside without shoes. To me it feels like i am walking on LEGOS ! Your garden looks great. You both do a great job
Walking in my garden without shoes feels the same and dear lord I can’t walk across my front yard because of all the pickers I have more weeds than anything more because I don’t stress on lawn I mow and I concentrate on my garden after working 10-12 hr days I am so glad I put in a auto watering on my 8 above ground beds and my 50 mineral tubs hoping to get front yard planted with dwarf fruit trees and will add auto watering so maybe I will have a real lawn lol
You have to work up to it. But it is so good for you.
the stickers in my yard is begging me to walk barefoot 🙄
We have so many fire ants. 😢in NC
Train those feet 🦶
Is there a detail beekeeping video, where to get the house, suit, smoker, what to look for, does and don'ts?
Your gardening videos are always my favorite, so much fun seeing everything getting started. Already can't wait to see the harvest and preserving videos. I only have a very small garden and struggling to grow much this year because of slugs and snails but I'm still having fun. Lots of love from the Netherlands ❤
We really enjoy your videos… When we get wonky or extra comb from the bees, I often cut it off and then use rubber bands to “band@ it into an empty frame… then put that into the hive and the bees will continue to build the comb and they will attach it to the frame. Good job!
Check with your state’s conservation dept or organizations that will assist on pollinator habitats. There are cost-share programs and true practices for establishing native wildflowers. Be sure they’re native!
Garden in New Zealand we don't have wild flowers, as our native bees, wasps and bumblebees are smaller than your smallest finger nail or end of your nail, but we have commercial packets filled with English wild flowers. Get into trouble for pointing out we don't have those wildflowers as native plants.
Can you guys do a super in depth strawberry video? How to plant, keep them from spreading, prune etc? I’m really wanting to plant. A good row of strawberries 🍓
Have you thought of planting a row of fennel plants & put the squash seeds near them? I have tried to to deter squash bugs.
I love how you guys both can work together and tell your story, for your videos, have you considered planting some pole beans around each corn plant when their about 1 month old then plant pumpkin or zucchini plants, to create a 3 sisters bed. Loving your channel.
Whoever is telling you to give up vegetables has lost their mind.
oh no, don't give up vegetables. They cost a lot of money at the grocery store (unless they're on sale).
Yes that is a crazy statement lol 5$ worth of seeds can grow a years worth of vegetables
This fall (late September-November) plant some garlic cloves and watch them take off, even during the winter! I worked at a nursery and they sold seed garlic and they started selling it in September. They call it a cold season crop. Plant in the fall harvest around the 4th of July ❤️
Thanks for your comment, I planted garlic last fall and didn’t know when to harvest them.
Fall is definitely the best time to plant garlic.
hard neck garlic you plant in fall. Here in Connecticut I plant it in early to mid November and harvest in late July
@@josephfydenkevez8839 here in Washington state we plant both soft neck & hard neck in the fall. I planted both in October and they are huge already 🙌
Do you wait for the greens to flop over before harvesting? This is my first year, planted in October and some of my hard neck are starting to flop over.
Its not just the Walmart wildflower packets that are low on seeds! I planted packs feom a few sources this year and they are all the same way! An ounce of seeds just isnt much.
"It'll be fine. It'll be totally fine..." Husbands know what that means. I shall pray for you, Cody. :)
You need to keep a few of the big tall Asparagus. It helps them the next year.
Your Garden is coming along! Lookin good. My question for you is, do you guys not have deer or wildlife pressure? I noticed that your garden is not fenced in. I have my garden fenced in 6ft tall and still the deer get in and eat all of my food before I can do anything about it. They have become the bane of my existence. How do you combat deer and wildlife pressure?
I want to know too! Although (if I recall correctly) I’m pretty sure they mentioned having a dog has improved their pest situation. Might be wrong tho
Look up double fence for deer.
Pausing to just to say how much I love your family and channel!! I feel like a distant cousin checkin' with the family, lol! I remember watching one of your videos where you shared your aspiration for cultivating honey bees (eh hem Mead, lol)... and in THIS video, you've done it!!! I love that! I know Michelle is on her herbalism journey; same as me! I turn to your channel instead of TV when I need a quick edu-taintment break. Break is over and time to go back outside with my Neem Oil spray per one of Michelle's recommendations! First time gardener and I'm over here applying everything I'm learning and surprising myself with harvests!!!
Thank you so much 😊 Love to hear that.. love it that you’re growing with us!
Great looking garden and I love the way you all work together. I'm looking forward to seeing the popcorn plants as I have never grown that myself. Take care and thanks for sharing.
Bees goes wild on pollens of corn 🌽
My boys (10 and 7) and I found your channel recently and we have really been enjoying your videos. Check out African Blue basil for attracting bees. We grow it and it is been my favorite attractor yet! Thank you for all of the great videos!
You are totally right on with your ideas about everything relying on everything else, Michelle. One thing I have done when the pollinators were scarce here in Vermont was to pollinate the squash plants myself! You have to learn the difference between the male and female squash flower (female is the one with the little tiny squash on it) and rub some of the pollen from the male flower onto the female flower. There are videos online about how to successfully do this. Now, due to the fact that I started planting more flowers in my garden, I no longer have to do that, but it works in a pinch! As always, very enjoyable video, guys!🌻
consider mulching ur potatoes they love a constant even moister they are one of the crops that benefit most from mulch
One of my weekly highlights are your videos. What can't I say that I've never said before? Thank you for allowing me to learn so much from you and becoming more and more successful in my garden.
You're so welcome! So glad you're here with us 😊

How cool of Cody to surprise you with the patio area and the fire pit. Cheers to all the memories you'll create out there!
I think bees are doing better this year around the country. Love those Layens hives. If you give then a couple weeks to get settled I think they are easier to work with. I over wntered a colony in a 7 frame swarm trap.
Thanks for another day in he garden !!!
Hello, I was watching long time ago and then thought: eeee... it is not for me.
But time has passed> I watched almost all your films. And I think you are amazing. Partly it was both of you that awakened the need for the ground
Love your channel! I just found it a couple days ago. I completely agree - you cannot take parts from the whole and expect everything to work.
Excited to see your garden grow!
I alllowed alluims to develop on my onions. The flower ball looked like a snowball. It was beautiful and they were always filled with bees.
I loved seeing you mix all the flower seeds together prior to sowing them. I have done that before and alwats got lots of veggies, herbs, and fruit.
I like the orange tape measure
When you saw seeds try to water in the rows before the seeding. Use the hose with a narrow jet (sorry if the word is not correct). The water will soak into the ground under. You must use a lot of water before the seeding. After you have put down the seeds put the earth on top and do not water after. This way you will get less weeds in between the rows. I dont know why people dont use this way of seeding. It is very good for beans peas and other big seeds, in fact for all sorts of seeds .I live in the north of Sweden. Love your channel, God bless you all !
Such a beautiful garden! Your hard work really is paying off. I appreciate how you reflect and analyze the processes of your little farm. Happy gardening!
Our garlic took about 8 weeks to sprout. I only got two to sprout, good luck friend viewer from Michigan. Thank you for sharing. Till next time. God Bless
Two tips: If using cloves from a whole bulb, stand the bulb in about a centimetre of water for a few days until roots begin to form and then split apart the individual cloves to plant; or if cloves are are already separated soak them in water with a weak seaweed solution overnight before planting. Also there is a bit of leeway in getting the depth right, but be careful not to plant them too deep or they will rot. Good luck and happy gardening.
Getting groceries in the ground! Best ROE around.
Speaking of ROE, this is the first year I am keeping track of every penny I put into garden supplies and chicken supplies and rhen track the harvest weights. I have a spewadsheet that keeps track of it all. Can't wait to see the yearly totals. I told my kids nobody eats any food from the garden until we weigh it. I used the prices of Wegmans organics to see how much our harvest is worth. With half the year almost here, I k ow my chickens will be a positive cash flow at 2x the cost.
Do you buy your chicken feed and still have a net gain?
Yes, I buy feed from Southern States, but the chickens free range on about 1/2 acre of grass, so from March to October, they eat less grain. I bought two bags of feed on April 1st, and I just opened the 2nd bag of feed last week. I also give them human food, but I track the costs of every item.
I’m loving this series. I don’t comment often since I’m now working full time, but wanted to say thank you. I appreciate all y’all do for your videos.
currents make a great pie
The patio and fire pit area is so cool! Great job
I love hearing about the stuff yall plant that doesnt really need need preserving.
This month there was a long article about gut health and your microbiome. It explained that we need to eat a diverse assortment of non-processed foods. That the eating of single ingredient foods( bell peppers, beans, carrots, etc) 20-30 of them in a week will help us to keep our gut healthy, which in turn will keep our immune system healthy. Heck my salads have 11 different varieties, easy to do with 6 varieties of lettuce from the garden 😊.
I've noticed the older I get, the less processed foods my tummy can tolerate. Can't tolerate eggs, mayonnaise (because of the eggs) and now certain lunchmeats. I'm beginning to use hummus as mayonnaise...nice change of pace.
Good stuff! Patio looks fantastic!!
Southern Ohio here ...I put in over 400 garlic they're crazy growing 💗💗 your garden looking amazing ❤❤
Sending support, love, and kindness from Lexington, MI, USA.
i love how you guys are organized with your garden 🥰💚
Would love to see a staple garden tool video. About what tools you use every year. Like to get your lines straight etc
Hello and blessing to you and your family. Just want to tell you, I truly get inspired to grow a larger garden every time I see what and how you two work the garden. Also Love love love that you include your kiddos!!! Cody, Nice job on the patio area. Looks fantastic!!! Brownie points after carrot incident ha ha 😉🥰
I am learning so much about planting from you all. I enjoy how you all compliment each other’s skills and efforts. Thank you for addressing therapy and mental health. Keep sharing your lives with us so we can benefit from your knowledge and experiences.
Michelle I agree about these lopesided diets. God gave us variety..we just need to do things God’s way….no gmo’s no chemicals.
Looking so Good!!!💚💚💚
I was wondering how you keep the cabbage moths off your brassicas? If I don’t use some sort of row cover mine will look like someone used it for shotgun target practice.
Nice patio Cody!!!! Happy wife happy life! Please do a video on shelling kidney beans etc.
We love putting our dry beans with the popcorn. I just leave them to grow till the end of the year and we have one big harvest day. The kids love it. 🎉 You guys are doing great! Your garden is looking so good! Love your watering tips!
That's really cool!
all looking great guys, well done
Another fun video! Thank you!
Michelle I agree about self balance we were not meant to eat one thing alone in our early stages of life we were hunters and gatherers we ate what we could find a long the way fish, meat, fruits and vegetables as we traveled across the earth. Eat a variety of foods. Anna In Ohio
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have really been enjoying your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us!
We enjoy watching your videos each week! 😄
I plant marigolds in my beds, and this year I planted different kinds of flowers in my cucumber beds. Hopefully, I’ll get more cukes this year.
I plant marigolds (and zinnias) in my garden plot. Think I'll buy a monarda to try to attract monarch butterflies.
Cody, you do amazing. Both of you do!
So good guys, thank you.
Thanks for this weeks video. Really needed something chill to watch as it helps when I'm not feeling great ♥
Looking good! Nice work!❤
So, I don't eat vegetables... I stopped eating them some time ago and went carnivore (from keto) and cured a lot of my gut/pain/mind fog problems, I still grow large veggie gardens and give away what I grow. I love this channel! and I learn a lot from it, but a lot of veggies are hard on your body especially nightshades.
I'm honestly super happy for you that keto works for you but there's absolutely no scientific evidence it is good for EVERYONE. In fact, it's probably bad for some people. No diet in the world is a cure all. The vast majority of people are absolutely fine eating any type of vegetable.❤❤
I always look forward to your videos, they always make me happy ❤
Another wonderful video. You are both so inspiring and full of knowledge
Great videos, thanks
Exciting garden video❗️
Love watching you!
Better with the editing and video you too nailed it
They’ve ALWAYS been on the ball with video and editing!
LOVE to see you barefoot and getting wonderful Earth vibes. incredible garden too
Such a sweet surprise!!!!!!
Hey guys you have no idea how much you inspire me
I'm so jealous of you being barefoot!! We have ticks so bad this year that we have to spray just to go out in the yard. Wondercide has been my best friend! Love your channel!
I drive past this place a lottttttt, that garden looks so good right now
Thank you for this video I enjoyed it I learned a lot
The best thing for adhd and anxiety is start meditation start slow and be consistent and in time you will see a difference remember to breath deep, consintrate on your breath it will work try it you have nothing to lose
Thank you
Well done you for juggling so many things.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🌺🌺
I dont get how you guys have so much growth already. How warm has it been during the day and at night on average?
Is that a Birdie's bed I spy for the herbals? I'm always intrigued to here the thoughts on different product experiences from my go-to homesteaders. :D
I am envious of those straight rows! I need to use the string like Cody!
🐝thanks for the great video🌻
Yay! For the new bees!!!🎉
Great video you barefooted farmers! 🦶 🦶
Plant bright lights cosmos in the wildflower area, spread some of the seeds in the fall and they will come up, easy to save the seeds for future use.
Dang...almost caught a live...love ya guys...prayers
Get some Bee Balm...it really brings in the bees!
Central Indiana, here. I'm thinking of doing just that. And, I've grown some 'Black Velvet' nasturtium seedlings to try to attract hummingbirds (out of curiosity). We'll see what happens.
Michelle you are a brassica pro!
I sure enjoyed your video. I know it takes a lot to put up a video my husband says it does anyway but I could watch you guys everyday. I’m all caught up with all your videos now 🤪🥰 have a great evening, lisa
I decided to go with patty pan this year as well. I'm just watching this but I think I planted mine around the same time as you. I have a fence around my raised beds to keep the bunnies out, and am going to lean a trellis from the bed to the fence and hopefully that will save some space in the garden. Hopefully both of ours will do well. I haven't really had much luck with zucchini.
I was brave enough to try carrot seeds after watching your video and did the board thing, but nothing has happened and it's been a while. I'm ok with that because I tried. But I go in my little garden and tell my grown kids, well it's not More than Farmers, but I'm so proud of my 3 snow peas to pick. Ha Ha. All I can do is keep trying. Take care.
I always plant my corn seed, 3 seeds together every 12 to 15 inches fo better germination and pollination.
🎉 Love your episodes. Sorry about the carrots... lol! It was funny though.
Enjoyed 😅
Can I ask what variety your strawberries are? They look great!
Brunswick 😊
You are doing an amazing job! Thank you for your videos, they are extremely useful. Keep it up! I found your channel last year and I became a fan of it. :) Michelle, could you please make a video on making lotion from calendula flowers? I remember that my grandma used to do some but unfortunately, I couldn't learn the recipe from her. Greetings from Hungary!
We’ve been pollinating our squash and zucchini with a paintbrush. 🤣
I’m putting my zucchini in amongst the cushaw squash to see if that helps keep them longer. I’m also planting them far away from previous sites.
