    LIBRETTO:
    PAMINA
    Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen,
Fehlt auch ein gutes Herze nicht.
    PAPAGENO
    Die süssen Triebe mitzufühlen,
Ist dann der Weiber erste Pflicht.
    PAMINA, PAPAGENO
Wir wollen uns der Liebe freun,
Wir leben durch die Lieb' allein.
    PAMINA
    Die Lieb' versüsset jede Plage,
    Ihr opfert jede Kreatur.
    PAPAGENO
    Sie würzet unsre Lebenstage,
Sie wirkt im Kreise der Natur.
    PAMINA, PAPAGENO
Ihr hoher Zweck zeigt deutlich an,
Nichts Edlers sei, als Weib und Mann.
Mann und Weib, und Weib und Mann,
    Reichen an die Gottheit an.
    ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
    In men, who feel love
A good heart is not lacking.
    PAPAGENO
To sympathize with the sweet instincts
Is then the wives first duty.
    PAPAGENO AND PAMINA
We want to be happy with love
    We live through love alone,
    We live through love alone,
    PAMINA
    Love sweetens every torment
Every creature offers itself to her.
    PAPAGENO
    It seasons our daily lives,
Sie winkt im Kreise der Natur. It beckons us in the circle of nature.
    PAMINA and PAPAGENO
    Its higher purpose clearly indicates,
Nothing is more nobel than wife and man,
Man and wife, and wife and man,
Man and wife, and wife and man,
Reach to the height of Godliness.
Man and wife, and wife and man,
Reach to the height of Godliness.
    To Godliness, to Godliness.

ai-je besoin d'écrire quelques compliments ? c'est tout simplement parfait, ce duetto est fait pour la partition sans surajouter... Bravo Edwin et Nathalie pour tout l'éclat rendu à Mozart.

we all have off nights and this could be one of them, extremely to have to keep looking a the libretto something seemed totally wrong with the performance and then to run of stage without waiting.

Natalie isn’t there, whether it’s some kind of vocal issue or something.

I'm not sure of the dates but I am assuming the date of this performance is close to Dessay's retirement from opera. The voice here lacks a central core to give it firmness of pitch and consistancy. I bought her Traviata--her last DVD and she gives a stunning performance but it would be best to draw a veil over her singing in this lovely duet from the Magic Flute. Her Papagano is superb; he not only looks great but sings beautifully. You Tube has many clips of this duet and I suggest you look for Keenlyside and Shaefer conducted by Abbado. Idiomatic, charming and both sing beautifully.

Lovely! Even nicer listening only (sorry, I agree Edwin is "worth watching"!!) but Nathalie moves distractingly... The voice performance is royal to me but not "so" if I watch her. Very nice version of this Zauberflöte duetto.

I am so sad that some people think this is a valid way of how to perform. Not singing by heart, bizzare hand movements and no contact with the partner. This is so uncomfortable to watch.
