Natalie Dessay records Cleopatra's aria "Se pietà di me non senti" from Handel's "Giulio Cesare". Emmanuelle Haïm conducts Le Concert d'Astrée. -
I was listening her when I decided to be an opera singer. I was not even able to breath properly but she was touching my heart... Now I'm a graduated opera actress, even won a competition and trying to build a career to myself and she can still touch my heart and make me amazed by her voice.
You should . You must, all of us needs someone like you!
bob bobson so polite of you! Thank you! 🙏🏻
@@BerenKaderfidan We all need to have people like you! Good luck, whatever your endeavour are! Thank you/ Danke schon/Mulțumesc !!!
Are you also a coloratura soprano?
Quang Dang Huynh yes I am 🙌🏻
My favorite soprano. Her voice rings as clear as a bell and her tone is just perfect. I could listen to her all day, I love her interpretation of this piece! Thanks for posting!
Maybe you need some musical education!
Obviously you are tone deaf if you think this is good!
MrGashden Every one has different taste in music. Everyone has different opinions etc.. It's okay to disagree or hate it but, you should learn to respect someone's preference.
MrGashden I too hate this but, not because I hate something you love means that it's bullshit.
Love it! Incredible. Thanks for posting.
I don't believe she's "acting," but rather "feeling the melody with her hands." I've seen other singers do the same thing while recording.
Beautiful
i think you might be right. I saw her , in this very opera, on the MET in HD in a cinema. And she did not move her hands like this
It's very common for other Baroque singers, too... I see it often with Philippe Jarrousky and other countertenors, so I think it may have to do with intonation (as most period ensembles play about a step lower than modern pitch) but also as you said maintaining a good vibrato in a drier space
It is kind of like Glenn Gould and his quirks, he did the same thing while playing the piano!
She's keeping time as well!
I fell in love with this aria 45 years ago - but even more now with this wonderful interpretation. Dessay's control and her restrained and nuanced trills and turns are extraordinary. Haim and the orchestra support her with balance. The overall sense of love of the music, without concern for bravura, makes this the best I've heard.
No words....truly NO WORDS are enough....my goodness....this woman is the very definition of the perfect artist....being so good as to have a voice that has a "mechanical" precision and control is one thing but.....having a "mechanical" precision and control AND adding so much expression and emotion through the voice....is what makes you the ultimate Opera Singer....I thought in 3 years i came to know Mrs. Dessay but....for once more she surprised me...
Utterly sublime! This lady is new to me, another stunning find on you tube. She sings with her entire body, not just the voice but her whole being. Wonderfully expressive, a supreme example of real uninhibited expression in song.
I love her voice but personally I don't think it's very suited to this particular song. For my taste, she is at her best when singing something like Les Oiseaux dans la Charmille (check it out!)
beautiful singing and wonderful Handel...the solo bassoons add so much color to the texture of the aria, specifically the baroque bassoon sound... please listen and enjoy...Handle truly understood coloring of sounds and texture in his writing...
This voice is that of an actual angel. I’m dead, but so alive!
Handel listens to this and is happy and relieved!
Here she is still with a healthy voice despite two surgeries. if you see her live performances you understand why she worn out, she lived and performed each performance as it is were her final one. Such delicate instrument cannot cope too long with that treatment....but what a wonderful experiences and generosity. Not too many singers can make you cry and feel like she does.
Have you listened to her singing Morgana in Handel's Alcina? This was one of my first encounters with Ms Dessay and that initial impression has never left me; not only her vocal mastery but her natural flair and characterful ways with this role are amazing. Listen to her singing 'Tornami a vagheggiar'; there are two versions available on here at the moment - the live version is enchanting!
Enjoy!
Why she boxes when singing so fragile melody?
This is magical, art in all its extension... She makes my soul vibrate.
not sure who is moving the hands more, the director or dessay...
Maybe if desaturate w as directing the orchestra would be sharper.
opera singers use their hands alot when they sing they are dramatic
She has such a touching and perfect voice. Just beautiful!
A flawless rendering, IMO. She glides effortlessly through these beautiful melodious Handel passages. An open, in-the-mask, fluid, pearl-like sound that I rarely hear in Handel performances.
You really don't have a clue what you're talking about. The Da Capo sections are her own poor interpretation and not written by Handel at all!
Let's hear a video of you singing Handel.
Does it please you to act like an uncivilized person among opera lovers?
This was an amazing interpretation of an incredibly difficult aria. Dessay's voice is perfectly suited to this role, and her interpretation is wonderful. That said, no one sings this like Beverly Sills. No one.
Just heard her version... I can't see anyone topping that.
Her voice makes me feel the emotions, this beautiful piece and her incredible voice touch the deepest side of my heart... Many memories come to my mind.
Paul Son Is
Beautiful people, and truly truly beautiful music. and really wish to meet people like these in real life ...
U need some gorgeous music in your life, like this..
@Sbordomus Well, in terms of singing, she's not my absolute favourite, but she is my favourite VOICE...I love her timbre. About her "air swimming"...this is a unique thing she does only when recording...she says it's because she is normally busy acting onstage (and she does get busy!) so she "compensates for the drama" when recording and when she thinks no one's watching...but we are, of course! :) In concert, she's motionless - very few gestures and very elegant. :)
Though one can hear this is the end of her career.. I personally think the variations are great (quite an achievement, as they are rather daring). With them she gets you rather quickly through this very long aria. With other singers, it sounds like 15 minutes, here it's over as fast as if it were 4.
Cleopatra air
If you do not feel pity for me, just heaven, I will die.
You give peace to my torments, or this soul will expire.
Apasionada interpretación de Natalie Dessay
I am constantly amazed at how beautifully Natalie sings this aria. I have compared this clip to other people's versions, but none of them seems to match the precision, inflection, and climactic capacities that Dessay’s possesses. Can another Dessay fan out there recommend some of her other treasures (other than the ‘Bell’ song) to me? Thank you!
Oops! Six years late.
There's Ah non credea mirarti.
Vocalizing by Rachmaninoff
Absolument magistral.
Ultimate Soprano ............. her vocal qualities (external movements notwithstanding) just adds to her musical interpretation which IMO stirs any with any modal sensitivity in their souls to tears.
@ArpiCZ Because in this aria, Cleopatra is frustrated and upset as well as sad. :( Also, that's how Natalie records! :P
Merci Jean
Du très grand art !
I think it's cute she's signing her performance as well ;)
This world is crazy! This singer should not have become a star in ANY condition! Very weak and damned constricted
Fabuleux.
Voix magnifique, fabuleux...!!!
Damn I always have goosebumps at 8:06, these are the most beautiful sounds that exists.
I discovered Natalie Dessay on youtube and I became a huge fan since then. I really recommend 'Nuit d'Etoiles' from Debussy, or "Les oiseaux dans la charmilles" that Natalie sings perfectly. The documentary (with english Subs) about her vocal cords operations if quite moving and let us enter in her life, which is I think very intimate and touching. As many comments say, her voice is pure, such a pleasure to listen to. I am so happy I found tickets for her recital in Bordeaux in May 2019, can't wait to witness the performance of my favorite artist !!!
I don´t like, I love it
🎼❤️
Beautiful! Thanks for posting and sharing.
Maybe It's Handel's greatest opera, but what about Orlando, Ariodante and Alcina?
Sublime! The beauty of the music and the voice affect me so deeply that I cannot but weep.
Bellísima interpretación, muy conmovedora y espiritual. Dessay insuperable.
I think the movements would be distracting for the musicians.
Reckon they're professionals
Completely in love with this version.
She is wonderful.
@shakingguy
... close your eyes and just listen.
Phenomenal....
Does anyone know where I can find an English translation of Se Pieta? It's a beautiful piece, but it sure would be nice to understand what the lyrics actually mean. Thanks. :)
Polisch... Natalie...
Natalie is amazing. Gesticulating? It's not mere gesticulation, it is emoting with the content of the piece. I admire this in her presentation and find it really interesting. I will never be videoed, but, I sing the same way! So, Ha!
Natalie - the Best!!!
Hearing Natalie Dessay is thrilling. She has such a pure, clean, sweet voice. It touches my heart every time I listen to her sing. What a graceful exquisite woman!
My favorite too, unfortunately she is retired, I guess
Handel's greatest opera ! Great singing ! Natalie is wonderful !
@DessayBestSingerII DECCA? For not signing with them? Or Deutsche? :P
Exquisite. From the Olympian realms and Elysian Fields. Fabulous performance. Natalie's flourishes add gorgeous texture.
Actually, thats how Dessay behaves when NOT on show. When she is recording or rehearsing, she always gesticulates, and very heavily so. When she was asked about it she stated that because of her immense love for acting and because she focuses much more on it rather than music, she has to do these gestures because it makes it easier for her to better feel the music and externalize it. This is how she is used to do it. One can only imagine how hard it is for her to sing in public and restrain it.
grandezza dell' ARTEFICE.
bravissima, sempre
A little bit over the top for my taste😘
Brava Natalie....
The concept of being a fan was foreign to me, but Dessay conquered my heart and made me lose all objectivity.
I love the way the microphones look as if they have been 'bedazzled' :)
The little hairs on my neck are standing up ready for applause...just mesmerizing and so warmly lovely.
"se pietà di me non senti,
giusto ciel, io morirò.
tu da pace a' miei tormenti,
o quest'alma spirerò."
Thanks!
Teşekkürler
welcome! and ofcourse the madscene on stage of lucia di lammermoor you CANT miss too ;)
❤ESTA ES, SIN DUDA, LA MEJOR INTERPRETACIÓN ❤ Bravo
Natalie Dessay, You are one of my favourite opera singers. I miss your voice before you were sick..😭
Transcendent, thank you!
Se pietà di me non senti,
giusto ciel, io morirò.
Tu da pace a' miei tormenti,
o quest'alma spirerò.
Natalie is the best!
Tell me what you listen to, and I’ll tell you who you are.” ― Tiffanie DeBartolo
Beautiful music making, despite the conductor’s moving like something out of a horror movie that bears absolutely no relation to the music. Haim is ridiculous.
No, i have not heard that- but thank you as I will do so now. It is much nicer when we work together on this site to promote our shared enthusiasm than the opposite. Thanks!
CD ordered, can't wait to hear it in my living room.
An incredible soprano, musician and personality. Love it!
ah ah ah
@asongnadance Well, someone described it as teaching swimming lessons...I prefer to think of it as "channeling la musique" :)
How beautiful is this? Total passion...conductor...singer...orchestra...!!!
this is truly amazing.
one cannot stop listening too this wonderful voice. One can only praise this voice.
I am her devoted fan... love her voice, tone, veladura....
And, it's a real work out!
@SsteinwayS I do too, comppletely! hehe
Pura belleza de música y voz.!!
Anyone else think that the conductor looks a lot like Tina Fey?
gdeMultik not even close...
@SsteinwayS The singing is nice, but the sound of the violins is just ugly.
"Yağmur çiseliyor,
beyaz ve çıplak mürted ayaklarının
ıslak ve karanlık toprağın üstünde koşması gibi.
Yağmur çiseliyor,
Serezin esnaf çarşısında,
bir bakırcı dükkânının karşısında
Bedreddinim bir ağaca asılı.
Yağmur çiseliyor.
Gecenin geç ve yıldızsız bir saatidir.
Ve yağmurda ıslanan
yapraksız bir dalda sallanan şeyhimin
çırılçıplak etidir."
