People scoff when I praise Leno's car passion. Rich guy, rich toys, they say. But his level of obsession, knowledge, and joy is like some Platonic-ideal expression for a worldly function. Most cannot speak of their own family with such emphasis. It's a contagious joy.

Mr. Leno appears to be the foremost authority in the US (World?) on all things automotive. I could be wrong, but I do not see him ever using notes on this channel, unless he is doing research before each filming, which I doubt. I do know that he told someone that he could feel that the car he was driving had the wrong tires on it. Who can feel that the car has the wrong tires installed? I would not know that the car had the wrong tires on it, even if the tires were square.

The "poor man's Porsche" is the way the car was originally designed but cost forced them to use the "peoples car" parts and put the engine in the rear. Nice car, but there’s 2 things I’m medium fond of:
1.) Except for the interior, basically anybody could copy/build it, because it’s all original Porsche spare parts, just ordered and put together.
2.) The engine parts received “a carbon overlay”, which means they simply put a carbon skin over an already existing part, making it heavier (to look cool) instead of making a completely new component.
Other well known companies actually produce their own components for similar price.
It seems to be a project wanting to ride on the retro Porsche wave, but slightly late to the game, AND not fully dedicated…see the name (!!??).
    Fun video as always!
    Best wishes

Main reason why Porsches have good mileage is, unlike alot of other performance/ high end manufacturers, they run almost every time you start them. Most Italian, French, and British sports cars are constantly broken down for various reasons.

Be still my restless heart. Go for it, Jay. During the late 1970’s I test drove a three cylinder Yamaha 750 motorcycle. It sounded just like an air-cooled Porsche 911. SOLD! I rode that bike for thirty years. I have a water-cooled bike now. It sounds pretty generic.

I love the fact that 90% of the parts used are original Porsche parts, allowing for ease of maintenance and service at your local Porsche shop or Independent Porsche specialist. Smart move by this company in my view. I just wish these tuners could produce something in the $200k range, I just don’t see $750k in value. But with that said, If you haven’t owned a 911 of any vintage it is something you have to do at least once in your life. I’ve just added a third to my garage (new Turbo S). I have a first generation, 4th generation and now the latest 911, admittedly a privilege and luxury but boy do I love driving each one of them. Every generation gives something different but the heritage and history is always there. Glad to see what these folks are doing to keep these older 911’s on the road.

This car is spectacular! I would encourage Jay to do a regular segment on these various modified/BackDate 911 examples. There are so many top-notch boutique builders these days. I think I have seen Jay's shows where he has covered Singer, Emory (356's) & Gunther Werks (I apologize if I have missed anyone). But others might include Kaege, GS Manufaktur, Abreu Motors (Fabie is really upping the game), Evomax and of course legend RUF...and, again I apologize for so many that I know I don't know.

The detail is incredible. It didn't even have a passenger sideview mirror. I remember my 1979 Porsche did not have one and always thought that was odd. The modernized period gauges and steering wheel was amazing.

I once had the privilege to drive Arnold porche same shape as this as I was a detailer/yardman at a car yard now the car was a 911 shell but had all the work done to have the RS pack but it ran the 933 motor it was set up for target Tasmania in Australia and the power to weight was better than any new car out there just a whole new experience yet great old school vibe definitely an experience not forgotten if I had money to throw around I'd buy one of these just so much fun

Yep, I'm one of those who do not like what Singer, Lab Eleven and others are doing to classic 911's. And starts at 720k lol. I also don't care how many they made. In my opinion, converting an original classic 911 to a resto is sacrilege. Glad I bought my 1982 911 SC. It will stay 100% the way it left the Porsche factory in 1982 on my watch. If I did crave a modern 911, I'd go 20 miles from my home and buy a 2024 however since Porsche is no longer offering base and S trim manual 911s, that's never going to happen. I suppose that's one pro argument for these resto modders. Admittedly, at 58, I'm like my Air cooled 911, an old relic of the past and I like it that way.

Totally agree. And the funny thing is that this very expensive restomod is still not a modern car. I'd rather be sitting in my 991.1 911 when hit by an SUV or truck in today's crazy traffic. These kinds of expensive reimaginations are not meant for the real Porschists, just for wealthy people who fell in love with the iconic shape and the idea of driving an oldtimer but who hate, or at least lack the love of, really taking care of one. They basically don't like the way real oldtimers drive and feel but nevertheless they want to be seen in something oldtimer-adjacent. I guess that in their world you get more bragging rights with these very expensive restomods than with the original stuff itself. On special occasions, I love taking out my all-original 1967 911R which I inherited from my father. I take care of it without trying to improve on it (except for tires and wiper blades maybe) and drive and respect it the way he always did over the years. And if I want performance or long-range reliability, I'll take one of my more contemporary Porsches. The whole bunch of them still cost me just a fraction to purchase, run and maintain of the price of one of these almost perfect "reimaginations". Different strokes for different folks I guess...

Never, ever, thought I'd say this because they're still one of my all-time favorite cars, but I'm getting a little sick of 911s. That new 928 restomod (by the French company) is a breath of fresh air.
