Why are all these kids in the comments looking for every reason to pick these videos apart? These cars are dope, the guy is kinda dry, but clearly loves what he does. Jay is always the same so I don't know why it surprises people. This was a cool video and I'm glad these cars are out there getting driven.
I really like Marlon's design ethos on these cars. Very functional and simple without over-wrought detail - it seems he lets the cars be what they are at a basic level.
Diesel 871 I believe so, I thought I remembered seeing it in the background once or twice. He has quite a few vehicles that haven't been featured yet! I like Jay's personal collection more than the guests... ; )
I agree! I remember seeing it in a couple restoration blogs. Would love to hear the story on that. I believe he said it was a doctors and he bought it from the widow. Also I wonder if Jay has a Singer Porsche?
I'd Love to see an old Saab! A 96 or a 99, there's so much history in those cars and they are really rich in innovation and character:) Great video also Jay
video brings back memories of when I had a 1977 911S. was such a fun car to drive , it got to 120mph pretty quickly. I should have kept it to give to my son. crazy the value on the old air cooled cars.
There truly is nothing more wonderful in life than driving a air cooled 911 Porsche, l owned a 1988 SC , I just love the feel the sound the relationship the driver gets with these wonderful automobiles ,it's now in the hands of my good friend Jay Lloyds in Ontario, a Porsche restoration air cooled master mechanic, if you are ever in the Toronto Mississauga area very close to the Toronto Pearson airport drop in and see him he truly is a wonderful book of knowledge and awesome human being . It's just sad that these cars are becoming so expensive that the regular guy who truly loves Porsches might not ever get to experience the joy !
A 911 that runs and is not rusty has never been cheap in the Northeast. I sold totally rusted out ones with dead engines, for parts, for more than Jay mentions, decades ago.
Dear Mr. Leno, I really love your videos and the things I have learned from them, witch is a huge amount, more then any other source. But I am so sorry for the horrible comments that people leave. More than 80% have nothing to do with the cars. Please please do not get frustrated with the small minded group, and continue to be the salvation for the rest of us. Thank you Scot Forman
I agree with you Scot. Reading through YT comments will make you concerned about the future of humanity. The number of people who feel they need to tear others down in order to make themselves feel better about their lives is amazing.
mark KAO Did you look at traffic elsewhere on the road? It's LA drivers.. all close quarters at speed.. it was nutso as the norm when I worked down there...
mark KAO: I think it's Jay trying not to get separated from the filming vehicle. You occasionally see a glimpse of a white SUV with the passenger side back window out and a camera sticking out it. About a dozen vids ago or so.
The gear grind at 20mins is hilarious...the look on the guy's face was like "Common, Jay, I'm borrowing this car, you knucklehead!" Jay is like, "I'll show you how to get to 200-degrees on this gearbox in one millisecond." LOL.
I'm always amazed at how many people say thumbs down....128? Really? I mean, RUclips is free and this is just a great, thorough video with good cinematography. If it's thumbs down to the car, well, it was prob going to be in the junk yard if this genius didn't bring it back to life and make it better than factory.
Thank you for sharing. I upgraded my Porsche's shifter cable to a Numeric Racing Shifter Cable with thicker cable and Aluminium Rod Ends, eliminating the sloppy rubber and fragile plastic rod ends, gives a solid thump feel and snicker snack sounding shift. I can't recommend them enough, at least for the 986 S Getrag 6 box.
That's what happens when wealth shifts upwards. Rich people throw excessive money around, and prices rise because "value" (as erroneously defined in capitalism) has risen.
Very good video the guy really knew his stuff any question Jay asked he knew, you could tell Jay was very impressed, probably have all his Porches now serviced there and probably buy one of these rebuilds..
Really? The guy is a car geek to the nth degree! Answering with complete knowledge that is much deeper than 99% of Porsche owners. The quality of his work compared to most resto shops is astonishing and doing things like rebuilding gear boxes with a special "recipe" of gears gives him the right to answer this like a science. Don't just dismiss him as a hipster --
@@uptheorg I agree but Patrick Motorsport gearsets are common-I'm in this Pcar world and the prices and restorations are now insane. These cars do not get driven much when the paint is perfect and a seat is switched in and out
@@G50_GT3M3CSLM2C Not driven much until owned by a guy like David Lee with the Ferrari's who realises he is not going to live forever, doesn't need to let them sit for fear of a rock chip because he is that financially stable and wants to drive his examples of the cars he loves so much.
Another great car on Jay Leno's Garage. A Porsche 67-76 911 restomod is on my bucket list of cars, (since I was a teen) to do. And this vid just fed my lust greatly, thank you.
I loved the hilarity of the driver maxing out his Skyline/Altea from 17:42 onwards because no jumped up rich-boy car is going to get the better of him ! hilarious good fun - and - what owning a decent car is all about - the howl from the V-6 is actually quite impressive. And the 911 is awesome too :-)
I met an absolute hard case at our own version of Classics And Coffee, he had a Porsche 911 T Sportomatic, that he Had HAND PAINTED Blue, using a paintbrush and common house paint!
@19:54 Leno misses his shift and grinds the gear, says "Sorry." You can tell Goldberg wasn't thrilled about it. Leno later says "it really sounds bulletproof" and "I always appreciate how much abuse Porsches can take" What are you gonna do? It's Jay Leno. Pretty cool they didn't edit that out and tried to make the best of it.
had 3 914s . a 912 etc...thanx kids. et al. no one can explain the phenom.bobby Allison said they were$$25000 corvairs.thank you jay you make life worthy living
the reason for long studs and open-ended lug nuts is so you can use wheel spacers when you're running big brake kits. a lot of wheels don't have the offset to accommodate big brake kits, so having long studs allow you to use 5mm, 10mm, etc. spacers to fit standard wheels over the big brake calipers. surprised this guy didn't know that.
Carson has his yacht and was into that lifestyle. Once retired he shunned the limelight. Letterman does some charity work quietly. Fallon and Conan have their shows and all the controversy of the past has died down. Jay isn't really retired. Just into things that align more with his hobby/passion. Leno: "Harley Davidson and Porsche must be the two most aftermarket parts available companies around" Really Jay? Maybe you've heard of a vehicle called the Jeep...
I really like that grey one -- that's a fantastic "sleeper" look for that car. Not that the blue one wasn't also great -- but if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the grey one.
Marlon, if you are going to show off your cars on Jay Leno's channel, enjoy it. You seem so unexcited and exhausted. Excellent work on the cars. and Jay, quit calling it a "Porsch" you know better. :P
Hi Jay, I have been a subscriber of yours on RUclips for some time. I like the way you thoroughly look into things on cars and motorcycles. I have always put new tyres on the front wheels of my car if I am only replacing two tyres. I saw a poster in a tyre shop the other day by Michelin which said "If only replacing two tyres put them on the rear for greater stability and safety" or words to that effect. Most people and tyre shops say the front for new tyres while tyre manufacturers recommend the rear. Is it possible for you to look into this and let me know. PS I really like your videos about old classic Motorcycles, Steve
So I read this story that the Ferrari engineers had this Quija board set up in the lunch room at Maranello and they actually received a message from the old man on the other side. Enzo said no more manual gear boxes in Ferrari cars... He was watching the video from heaven..hence the JL500 Ferrari semi auto transmission designation. Jay should be proud

I’m 15 and I love all of jay Leno’s videos! I love classic cars much more than super cars. These videos are definitely a treat for me
Like you said.. they are kids 🐨
I really like Marlon's design ethos on these cars. Very functional and simple without over-wrought detail - it seems he lets the cars be what they are at a basic level.
Guy shows up in a old t shirt - that's the sign of a working man. Love it. And Jay always leaves his ego at the door, with his questions. Great show.
Another of Jay's great episodes. Thanks for being around!
Jay needs to feature his mustard yellow Porsche 911. He hasn't done that one yet (only resto blog). Nor the Citroen SM...
I want Alex Roy to join Jay in both of their SM's driving around LA and compete which will go wrong first in some way.
Matevž Malenšek Alex is selling his SM.
Doesn't he also have a brown one?

The sound of that engine!!!! What a car.
The look on the owner's face was priceless when Jay ground the gears a little! What a hoot.

Jay's got a 96 in the garage. Looks like a 2 stroker.
Jay has an episode now on his 2 stroke Saab.

Right after the guy said that it was an especial gearbox 🤨

Car prices are absolutely ridiculous these days.
Furkan Turfanda Prices will go down when we have another recession. It's just a waiting game.

The face of the owner when heard the gearbox! 😂 Don't worry if Jay breaks it he canfix it.
That 1974 is sooooooooo much fun in the mountains of California!!! Nothing like a track car on regular roads............
