Both types are winning Superbowls. What matters is will the HC have the locker room behind him and his Head Coach "IQ" for game time decisions. We just need the other coordinator to be competent in his play design, play calling and what players are involved in those plays. Chicago doesn't have any of this and hasn't since Lovie Smith.
Wrong , bears identify has always been defense he is a top candidate he blitz his 40% of the time. What did the Bears do when they won the 85 Super Bowl ?
exactly! Kevin Warren may or may not be a competent NFL Team President & CEO, but George McCaskey & the entire McCaskey family needs to stay completely out of all football decisions. the fact that George McCaskey hired Kevin Warren is the only reason why I am skeptical of Kevin Warren's competence & whether or not he is even qualified to hire the next GM, who should then be solely in charge of hiring the next HC.
@BlueDan-h8d you are probably right, the McCaskey's likely won't sell the team voluntarily, without significant pressure, force or coercion being applied by someone. you are also right about the fact that fans crying about it won't solve the problem. analogy time: a lot of people have been crying about America's dysfunctional healthcare system for a long long time, many many decades in fact. then along came Luigi Mangione, whose drastic actions were obviously necessary to bring attention to the problem, enough attention to hopefully & eventually lead to Universal Healthcare. this kind of drastic action might be necessary in order to force the McCaskey family to finally sell the franchise.
The Bears needs to stop playing. Hire Vrabel under the condition he hires McDaniels as the OC. Two guys with experience. No more new head coaches. Pay them whatever they want.
No on Flores. That lawsuit is a huge red flag. No on Coen. No HC experience. No on Brady. Same reason. No on Ben Johnson. That offensive line is elite. We have the Temu version. Vrabel is the only logical choice.
A culture changer is needed. That is not something for a promotion coach. Bring in an OC or DC to get his first coaching job and it will fail. Vrabel is obvious choice.
I'm a HUGE no on Flores. The Tua thing is huge. His suing the league shows me his tough guy act is a facade. I want that dude nowhere near this team. I think it was Schefty who reported it, but Thomas Dimitroff is getting hired by some team and he's already talked to Vrable about being HC. So it sounds like he's off the table. Ben Johnson is the obvious choice.
@manny - I hope you are right about Mike Vrabel. I am so tired if reading the name Ben Johnson and hearing his name regarding the Bears head coaching vacancy. Ben Johnson is NOT the best candidatw for the Bears. The Lions have scored half as many TD's in every other stadium but at home and in Minnesota the last three season under Johnson. He is much better in a dome. Joe Brady and Liam Coen are better candidates.
Where we all went wrong on assessing this team last offseason was heart. These players are not a team. We were lied to about the togetherness of this team. To many cancer bad apples
If Vrabel can bring Daboll with him to be the OC then I think it can work. Daboll wont be a HC again anytime soon so he will stay put with Caleb. Lets hope the Giants move on. Let Johnson go experiment somewhere else.
@ItsYourImagination - When thinking of a HC or OC, we have to think if that coach will be respected by Caleb Williams and would get along with Caleb Williams. It also matters if he can successfully call plays. Brian Daboll's teams passing stats while in New York have been towards the bottom every single season. I am surprised he is still their head coach. I agree that if the Bears hire a defensive head coach, it is best to hire an OC that will not be getting head coaching offers in the NFL. What is the fascination with Mike Vrabel? He had some winning seasons with 1 win in the playoffs. His pass defenses averaged 22nd in the NFL for his 6 seasons in Tennessee. He completely relied on Derrick Henry to win games. I would be incredibly surprised if the Bears don't hire an offensive head coach. Ryan Poles' career with the Bears is dependent on Caleb Williams and his improvement on the field.
Vrabel all the way. I’m not buying this whole defensive coach/offensive coach dichotomy. It’s called “Head Coach”. A qualified candidate can walk and chew gum at the same time. Heck Jim Harbaugh came from Special Teams and look at the career he’s had.
@nicholas - Effectively calling plays on either side of the ball is essential, regardless of title. Mike Vrabel is not a coach that would call offensive plays. The Bears need a coach (regardless of his title) that can help Caleb Williams and the offense improve by his coaching and playcalling. Putting the title of "Head Coach" aside, how has the Bears defense been since firing Matt Eberflus? How was the defense when Alan Williams was calling plays? Last or 2nd last in the league in points allowed. That's the point. Matt Eberflus was very good defensive playcaller and coach. Mike Vrabel benefitted from relying primarily on Derrick Henry. He is not the best head coaching candidate for the Bears. As a DC, he would be fine.
Can someone answer this, was Flores an OC originally? I heard that, but can’t verify. I’m not sure about Flores, but we do need a very “not nice guy”. Vrabel sounds perfect!
My top 5 1. Jon gruden: Positives: Super Bowl champion, experienced head coach, quarterback guru and great offensive mind. Negatives: not good at drafting talent, email scandal. 2. Ben Johnson: Positives: top OC in the nfl and has has a top 5 offense 3 years running, very aggressive play caller, helped elevate a terrible franchise. Negatives: not good at HC experience 3. Mike vrabel: Positives:great leader of men, playoff experience as a HC with a losing franchise, good defensive mind. Negatives: different defensive scheme and not offensive minded. 4. Josh McCown: Positives: former player and great teammate on the bears, a good quarterback coach that has helped Sam darnold have his best season. Negatives: no nfl head coaching experience 5. Byron leftwich: Positives: good play caller that worked well with Tom Brady and Winston. Former quarterback that can help develop Caleb. Negatives: inexperienced
Quick tell me Vrabel’s record once Arthur Smith left? Quick tell me about how good his culture was despite several players and people in the building butting heads with him? Quick tell me what’s so good about Vrabel beside ‘blah blah, leader of men, blah blah, manly vibes😂.’ Let’s stop being reactionary, Vrabel isn’t Dan Campbell and just because BEN Johnson isn’t abrasive and 250lbs doesn’t mean he can’t lead men. Listen to his press conferences - he’s a leader.
I'll say it again, Arthur Smith (PIT OC) should make the list for an interview. Did great work as OC for TEN years ago, did a decent job with ATL as HC with the weapons he had on offense. He has done a phenomenal job resurrecting Russell Wilson and the PIT offense. He checks the boxes, prior HC, strong offensive mind. He has adjusted his game plan and made excellent in-game adjustments against different teams. week after week. He went ground and pound when they had to play ground and pound, simplified offense for Justin Fields first six weeks, etc. Nobody had PIT at 10-4 heading for playoffs.
I would take Vrable/McDaniels in a heartbeat. McDaniels may not be suited as a HC, but as an OC.. This guy has vast experience, has worked closely with the greatest HC & QB of all time, for years, and has been successful in this league. Plus, the hard nosed boss mentality of Vrable, This might be exactly what The Bears need
Vrabel. This team needs a biig time culture change. If he goes with McDaniels, that wouldn't be too bad considering he probably wouldn't be poached as a HC candidate. If not him, Ben Johnson or Joe Brady.
Quick tell me Vrabel’s record once Arthur Smith left? Quick tell me about how good his culture was despite several players and people in the building butting heads with him? Quick tell me what’s so good about Vrabel beside ‘blah blah, leader of men, blah blah, manly vibes😂.’
Vrabel has the smallest red flags and being in the playoff mix year after year will motivate the team and FA to sign in Chicago to maybe win it all just need to get to the postseason and anything can happen.
Don't think Flores is belittling players in Minnesota and he's got to know that what he was doing in Miami is out and bad. So yeah, if he wouldn't do that in Chicago then for sure he should seriwously be considered.

I’ve been saying it for years. They HAVE TO sell this team. Ownership is broken there is no direction with this franchise. We have to break the cycle of defensive head coaches. We need an offensive minded coach. Ben Johnson might be the best option and get Mike Vrabel as a defensive coordinator to work his way back to a head coach.
Vrabel is like the John Fox of a decade or so ago. After the Trestman fiasco, the locker room was in shambles and the Bears wanted a nice consistent veteran who would command respect and build a winning culture in Chicago so they brought in John Fox. Fox had taken two different teams to conference championship games and had coached on 3 different teams that went to a Superbowl. He was a dismal failure in Chicago probably because the GM didnt know how to draft. Don't make the same mistake we did before, we are good at it. Hire Ben Johnson and go for it!

I imagine Vrabel is going to New England next year with his ties to that team. Ben Johnson will return to the Lions for another year to try and win a super bowl. So Joe Brady maybe? I still think the bears will hire someone like Kliff Kingsbury as he matches the type of coach personality the bears have hired. I don't really see the McCaskeys changing who they are and who they want as coaches.
If that’s the top 5 we are screwed lol they’ll miss out on Ben Johnson and settle on Vrabel/McDaniels. It might not be terrible but at the same time definitely not too thrilling.
I'd love for the bears to go after Joe Brady. Just look at what the Bills were able to do with Shakir as their WR1. He's a QB-centered coach who can elevated Caleb to the next level. Just look at what he's doing for Josh Allen. Ben Johnson's great but relies too much on his all-pros which we don't have. The common theme for both of them though is that they both have top 5 O-Lines, which we desperately need.
NO not when we have a QB the likes of Tua maybe Flores has learned from this don't know and the only reason I'm saying no is we should have offensive mind this time around

Vrabel is going to Raiders. I am sad to learn that I was right Caleb Williams might have David Carr Syndrome ( aka getting hit early and often) Tua is trying to cover up his ineptness by blaming a coach . I am still a Frank Reich Fan HC and Lincoln Riley as a QB Coach and Green as O -Coordinator. If Kliff Kingsbury can be a QB Coach with 0 Heisman Trophy Lincoln can be a QB Coach with 4 Heisman Trophy Winners . Brady is 1 year out of college (LSU ).
Am I the only one that's absolutely not in on Vrabel? I see his name near the top of every Bears list and I just don't see it. To me he rode King Henry to the playoffs and as soon as teams were able to stop him in those games he couldn't pivot and got smoked. I get Caleb has way more talent than bum ass Tannehill but still, that's a huge red flag IMHO.
If there is any chance Josh McDaniels comes to Chicago as any kind of coach whatsoever, then I would not be interested in the coach that considers bringing him!!!!!!!!
Once again. Brady was already developed when McDaniels git to him. In fact he was multiple times super bowl mvp already. Brady developed McDaniels. Please stop saying that

Most of these fans will say no for Flores regardless.. and it has nothing to do with football ability
Offense hC only, anything else a waste of time lmao
We didn’t pick Caleb for nun.
If there is any chance Josh McDaniels comes to Chicago as any kind of coach whatsoever, then I would not be interested in the coach that considers bringing him!!!!!!!!
Flores is still pushing a lawsuit against the NFL. Are you insane?
Once again. Brady was already developed when McDaniels git to him. In fact he was multiple times super bowl mvp already. Brady developed McDaniels. Please stop saying that
start boycotting games!! Send a message to the owners!!!
Harbaugh, period!
Mike Denbrock ?
Why should we believe your list lol
You picked Shane Waldron #1 last year and Kingsberry somewhere around #6….
Poles you better get the coach and o line right or you're tied Caleb take the off season reading these defensive get on page with receivers you have good receivers
