I'm thinking the value of being able to use every attack or move as a heal is that you can bring more of those cards and leave behind anything dedicated to healing since you can use whatever for that in a pinch.
Your videos are the most concise and informative. I love the combos, gameplay advice and card suggestions enhancement suggestions and perk deck building....Thanks for doing other classes, I learn from every video and my gameplay is certainly improving dramatically
@@neuralnetgames6540 it is apparent that you both prepare and work incessantly to put these videos out...my 3 sons and I really get excited when we get the new content notification from your channel
My favorite class. For enhancements : Jump on bottom high move ( I use hamstring) Disarm on top Bloody saw. Another round of brokenness! I put Poison on prevention is the Key, but only because we had already 2 other cursers in our team Strengthen on Do No Harm For Vaccine, I prefer +1 damage because wound don't stack with itself and we already have a lot of rolling wounds.
I really like poison on prevention is key. It'll make your next attack using Hold Back the Pain hit for one more on every bad guy. Plus also, if the disarmed enemy pulls a heal, then the heal will at least be blocked.
@@neuralnetgames6540 i guess my question was actually more about the 2 turns. Strengthen is removed at the end of the character's next turn. So it's only one turn, just like any other Condition.
@@N3verGlow Yep, so for anyone else you strengthen it can never be more than one turn of advantage for them. However if you strengthen with your bottom action, your top action that turn will be strengthened and then your next turn will be strengthened as well because the condition lasts until end of next turn!
I think that Studded leather is better than Hide armor for the Sawbones because the Hide armor gives you two -1 attack modifier cards in your deck. I prefer the cloak of invisibility to armor myself.
34:03 Strengthen on Precaution will only give them only one turn of advantage right? You only get 2 turns when u apply it on yourself since it goes away after your next turn.
Very helpful guide. We unlocked Sawbones after Soothsinger on the digital version and he felt like a downgrade as a support, but seeing the melee combos he can pull off I really want to give him another chance.
Im also just starting the digital version - what cards are you taking on Soothsinger? I feel like i cant get the same sustain as i can on Sawbone but I really want to use Soothsinger more
Good guide! Well presented. I think you are undervaluing Hamstring though. If you combo it with Prevention is Key into your HBtP AoE, then the self immobilize doesn't matter. Also, Curative Mixture can remove the immobilize easily enough. I like your enhancement ideas, but you can never strengthen allies for 2 turns. Strengthen lasts until the end of the strengthened entity's next turn. Thus, if you strengthen yourself with a bottom action, then strengthen can give YOU two turns of advantage, but this won't work with allies.
Yeah I guess it only works for 2 turns when you strengthen yourself... if only I could fire my quality control department that missed that one lol(it's me and me) Still an awesome enhancement though! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Just to back this up: RuleBook p26 A “Heal X” ability allows a figure to return X hit points to either themselves or one ally within the ability’s range.
hmmm i always thought you could target any figure but I guess I'm wrong lol. Definitely not the first time I've been wrong and won't be the last. Thanks for commenting!
if you combine hand of the surgeon bottom with creative mixture top, then self and all adjacent allies will be healed. Does this mean that negative conditions would be removed from self and all adjecent allies too? if that's the case, then research the cure would not be necessary for removing conditions?
I have lots of experience of Gloomhaven tabletop version (but it's been a few years, so I forgot a lot). I played the Sawbone and remember being really frustrated with it, actually hating him and retiring him as soon as possible. I'm now playing the Steam version with 3 friends and I have just unlocked the Sawbone. I didn't want to play him at first, but after watching your video and the one from MandatoryQuest, I'm willing to give it a try (especially that I start level 3 or 4). I hope I can pull off your strategy of playing late to move into position + disarm every adjacent ennemy and then play early to attack with Hold Back the Pain. But then what? lol I'll still be at the front!!! We'll see. I hope I can figure it out. Otherwise I'm gonna play the Elementalist that no one else wants to play in my party, but since we start at level 3 or 4, it's perfect. I'm gonna try your strategy (which is almost the same as the other RUclipsr, beside Hamstring which he prefers). I'm getting ready by taking notes from your video, and this Monday I'm gonna build him (choose cards, buy equipement, etc...). I'm definitely going to get the Boots of Speed, a Stamina Potion, an armor, Eagle Eye Goggles, and I'm not sure about his hands (maybe a Poison Dagger for negative effect??? Alltough he already has a lot on his cards.) What would be best for his hands?
Just a note on Strengthening Precaution top; you say that allies will get 2 turns of advantage, which is incorrect. Strengthen only lasts until the end of the person's NEXT turn, so if you strengthen an ally it will only be in effect until the end of their upcoming turn. When conditions are applied to "self" during the CURRENT turn, they are in effect immediately and will last until the end of the NEXT turn, thereby effectively giving 2 turns of benefit, but Precaution only applies to allies, so this wouldn't be the case.
thanks for being polite and not calling me a dumbass :) One of my earlier vids and you are correct along with all of the other commenters that have let me know since the vid came out lol
i have a question about Precaution. it is my opinion that giving 1 shield to all allies at levels 6+, would not be sufficient. That it would only be useful at lower levels where the enemies are not that strong. However, adding an extra shield, so giving all allies 2 shields from a distance would be great but it would cost 100x2=200 gold. What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks Ian! Boots of Speed is what I recommend for pulling off some of your big combos! anything where you can manipulate initiative will help quite a bit

just a correction (and correct me if I'm wrong) but at 34:00 allies will not get 2 turns of strengthen. That's not exactly how it works.

Adding Strengthen to Precaution doesn't give your allies two turns of advantage, only one - at the end of their turn the Strengthen token is removed.
