The missing piece from this story is that the mother delivered the conjoined twins by natural birth at home. It's hard to imagine what that experience must have been like for the mom.
WHAT!? That is honestly amazing! I truly can not even comprehend how that is possible! Miracles sure do happen though! I hope she didn’t suffer long after the birth, although I’d certainly imagine she must have.
The African American doctor who separated them was Clinton Battle. The Matthews' conjoined twins were the first in history to be separated and both survived as we know.
Well, being 68 isn’t as old now as it once was. People are living longer and longer, and Black women have always maintained a more youthful look due to the melanin. They are both lovely women, and I’m so glad I clicked on this video! 🫶🏽

I imagine those little girls from Texas that were just separated seeing this when they are 12 or 13 and getting a peak into the beautiful relationship they will also get to have for the rest of their lives. I’m sure those little girls mommy and daddy held this story close to their hearts in the months before the surgery too.
Their story is absolutely incredible! Their mother, the doctor that delivered them, and the doctors and nurses who separated them and supported them are true superheroes ❤️.
Their father was also a pastor, I know fervent prayers brought them through the surgery, and blessed them with their own children. Praise God there's healing in the Name of Jesus Christ Yeshua Amen 🙏🏾
@@NikkiAirytStorytime Well considering the fact that doctors & scientists with their finite knowledge are still DISCOVERING things about the human body, earth, oceans, animals & the universe all of which were created by an infinite Elohim. Elohim also created the doctors in whom you imply to solely place ALL of your trust in. As for me & my family nothing is entered into without prayer to God and sealed with in the Name of Jesus Christ Yeshua our savior & redeemer, who through his stripes & precious blood shed on the cross there is healing & the free gift of salvation. ~Isaiah 42:5 - Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: ~John 3:16 - 3:17 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Elda and Selda Alsleben were conjoined in a similar fashion when they were born in Minnesota in 1927, and were separated 3 months later by a country doctor. Elda had a heart defect that could be repaired nowadays and died when she was 9, but Selda lived to be 87 years old. Her gravestone even says something like "Wife and Siamese Twin." (She didn't have kids herself.)
Boy I wish I had capable parents. Not necessarily rich, but capable, articulate and assertive. It’s has when you as a child have up parent your own parents because the lack ability to guide and provide emotional support and life direction. These women had a strong foundation from the beginning and that’s what gave them the will to survive and thrive.
I have family friends who happen to be identical twin brothers; these family friends attended Mississippi Valley State University with these twin sisters in the 1970s. What a heartwarming story. I don't know the sisters personally. But I've from MS, so I've heard their fascinating story.
In 1960, at 11 months old, my dad's spleen was removed. He is still here! He had less than a 5% chance to live. And my mom is an identical twin. These ladies are amazing!!
Thank you for helping the beautiful sisters share their story 🥰. Lesson here can be said that medical advancements can be amazing (conjoined twin separation in 1955) but can also not be advanced enough to predict the future (doctors stating back in 1955 that the sisters could never have children) 😉.
*You are truly blessed...as well as your family and friends and what I'm reading in* *the comments so are the students you taught! Much love, light and Peace!* 💖💫✌
how doctors could even think they wouldn't be able to have kids is bizarre....there was no indication that would be a problem the way the connection was described.
What a beautiful story, such lovely ladies. How sweet. 🌹 I too, was told I couldn't have children. My two sons are grown, and I have grandchildren. God always has the last word! 💕
It's incredible that they were so successfully separated in the 50s! Both healthy with children and grandchildren of their own. It's a remarkable blessing. I wonder where they were conjoined and if they shared any internal organs.
I picked up the left and right phenomenal when I saw the flash back pictures. Though they’re identical I saw the difference and recognized who each was…amazing story
Absolutely stunning, beautiful story. Twins always fascinate me, and they are some of the most fascinating I've seen. Mom called it, may have taken a while but they're national now! Shout out to the doctor(s) back then. Amazing.

That is amazing. I am so glad they survived. 1955 was very different from today. My mother was offered thalidomide drug in 1961 in the UK when pregnant with me and refused it as she thinks avoid tablets unless you have to have them (thank God) and that is the reason I have limbs today as that drug caused huge problems not so long after that separation of what we used to call Siamese twins when I was a little girl, conjoined today. What a lovely family. To think they had 9 siblings so there were 11 children too!
People do not give enough credit to medical science. We have come so far in medicine. If only people appreciated medicine over complaining too much about it. We need more gratitude in this world.

I don't see how that is possible to do that in natural childbirth!!
Within the initial 25 seconds of video, it clearly states that the doctor made a house-call visit.
