The missing piece from this story is that the mother delivered the conjoined twins by natural birth at home. It's hard to imagine what that experience must have been like for the mom.
I don't see how that is possible to do that in natural childbirth!!
Within the initial 25 seconds of video, it clearly states that the doctor made a house-call visit.
@@gretchenbeck441yes same thing I was thinking! Thank God mom made it thru
WHAT!? That is honestly amazing! I truly can not even comprehend how that is possible! Miracles sure do happen though! I hope she didn’t suffer long after the birth, although I’d certainly imagine she must have.
@@mojito-alongtimeago but still mind boggling: I suppose being twins they were on the small side though.
The African American doctor who separated them was Clinton Battle. The Matthews' conjoined twins were the first in history to be separated and both survived as we know.
Yes! Thank you for acknowledging that important information
Thank you and thank you, Dr. Battle! Now THAT is what I call Black history👏🏾👏🏾💕
❤
I imagine in 1955 MS the were not allowed in the white hospitals which makes the story even more remarkable.
Wow Black Excellence!
Let's talk about HOW good they look for being born in 1955! God is good!
Because we are His Chosen Children🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
My thoughts exactly, truly blessed 🙏🏽
Mid 60’s isn’t that old tho ~ or maybe judging by My mom, I tend to think that 🤷🏽♀️😂 my ole girl looks GREAT and gets mistaken for my sister often ….
Well, being 68 isn’t as old now as it once was. People are living longer and longer, and Black women have always maintained a more youthful look due to the melanin. They are both lovely women, and I’m so glad I clicked on this video! 🫶🏽

In Mississippi in the 50’s .. under those circumstances is a miracle indeed
Nobody but God🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I was thinking the same thing
Lillian, was my 9th grade English teacher, an amazing life story.
Look at GOD!!!
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah 🙌🏾 2 God B The Glory!!!!!🙌🏾⭐️⭐️❤️🔥🌸🌸🌸🦋🦋
Praise God The Most High
Mrs. Lillian.
Wow really!? Did she tell y'all
They come from an amazing family of 11 children, 10 graduated from College!
Amen
Blessings
Wow!
That’s awesome.
Awesome! To God be the Glory!!!
The mother must have gone through terrible pain while birthing. Unimaginable!
When she said she felt her twins pain, man that hit me.
Lilian Mathews Hollins. My high-school English teacher! Love her❤ Best English teacher in the world.
As a Mississippian, historian and a Black woman...I am shocked to have never heard this story before. I am in awe and intrigued!
that surgery was performed 70 years ago, this blew my mind. So glad both survived to have amazing and long lives. What a great story 💖💖
No longer conjoined but forever connected so deeply ❤️❤️
They're living miracles. Them, their kids and everyone thereafter
Yes Courtney, Generations of blessings!!!God be praised!
Perhaps …they , their children and all those thereafter ………might be a more correct example of written English and language . What do you think? Is learning to write properly something worth learning and paying attention to ?
@@alexandradane3672 get a life. the purpose of language is to communicate, to understand and be understood. and if you understood what Courtney meant, what is the point of your comment?
What a fantastic story. So glad they survived and their story is being told nationally as their momma wanted.
Their father was also a pastor, I know fervent prayers brought them through the surgery, and blessed them with their own children. Praise God there's healing in the Name of Jesus Christ Yeshua Amen 🙏🏾
couldnt possibly be the doctors skill
@@NikkiAirytStorytime Well considering the fact that doctors & scientists with their finite knowledge are still DISCOVERING things about the human body, earth, oceans, animals & the universe all of which were created by an infinite Elohim. Elohim also created the doctors in whom you imply to solely place ALL of your trust in. As for me & my family nothing is entered into without prayer to God and sealed with in the Name of Jesus Christ Yeshua our savior & redeemer, who through his stripes & precious blood shed on the cross there is healing & the free gift of salvation.
~Isaiah 42:5 - Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
~John 3:16 - 3:17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Amen

Amen haleluya
1:26 “we were separated at 5 weeks old..”
“I thought it was 6”
“It was 5”
“okay” 😂 lol yup! I can tell which twin is the oldest by a few minutes lol
I think there th same age in minutes too cuz there conjoined at birth
😅😅😅 yes. Even if it was 3 seconds the older twin always let's it be known LOL. Lovely ladies.
lol she does seem like the older twin!😂
0:30 you're right! But idk if you can call this being born first?
They were conjoined, born at the same moment!
I imagine those little girls from Texas that were just separated seeing this when they are 12 or 13 and getting a peak into the beautiful relationship they will also get to have for the rest of their lives. I’m sure those little girls mommy and daddy held this story close to their hearts in the months before the surgery too.
Boy I wish I had capable parents. Not necessarily rich, but capable, articulate and assertive. It’s has when you as a child have up parent your own parents because the lack ability to guide and provide emotional support and life direction. These women had a strong foundation from the beginning and that’s what gave them the will to survive and thrive.
I appreciate the Today Show making their mother’s wish come true by sharing their story.
That amazing young doctor was so brave and compassionate to give those ladies full lives! ❤
Their story is absolutely incredible! Their mother, the doctor that delivered them, and the doctors and nurses who separated them and supported them are true superheroes ❤️.
I love that they still reach for each other. The love they have for each other is so clear. ❤❤❤
Elda and Selda Alsleben were conjoined in a similar fashion when they were born in Minnesota in 1927, and were separated 3 months later by a country doctor. Elda had a heart defect that could be repaired nowadays and died when she was 9, but Selda lived to be 87 years old. Her gravestone even says something like "Wife and Siamese Twin." (She didn't have kids herself.)
Beautiful
Rip
wow!! in 1927!!!
Thanks for refreshing my memory on that...Sondra from St. Paul.
Let's also give it up to the doctor of African descent who at a time when so much racism existed, delivered these children and separated them. ❤❤🎉
Amen❤
This is such a beautiful story...
They have such a gentle spirit about them.
Their family is beautiful
I have family friends who happen to be identical twin brothers; these family friends attended Mississippi Valley State University with these twin sisters in the 1970s. What a heartwarming story. I don't know the sisters personally. But I've from MS, so I've heard their fascinating story.
In 1960, at 11 months old, my dad's spleen was removed. He is still here! He had less than a 5% chance to live. And my mom is an identical twin. These ladies are amazing!!
I love how cute they are! Congrats to them!
They’re sooo Beautiful and such and adorable relationship!
Absolutely love this story.
What blessing this store was and with an happy ending. Kudos to you beautiful twin sisters. Dreams do come True❤️🙏🏾👏🏽👏🏽
Such an uplifting beautiful story. I would like to hear more about the doctor who separated them.
Dr. Clinton Battle.
They're beautiful. So glad it worked out well. A lot went on in small towns in 1950s Mississippi. Best wishes.
My great aunts Selda and Elda Alslaben were separated successfully in 1927.
Wow!! Even more Incredible...
Thank you for helping the beautiful sisters share their story 🥰. Lesson here can be said that medical advancements can be amazing (conjoined twin separation in 1955) but can also not be advanced enough to predict the future (doctors stating back in 1955 that the sisters could never have children) 😉.
Exactly!! God has the final say!!!
Exactly ❤
@@cherylnelson4584 you are so right!

We’re they still delivered vaginally? I’m trying to figure out how they could be delivered that way.
