Thank you drill sergeant! But also I just ran a improved Kraken, CR 23, on my 13th level party...boosted hp to 690(good number) on the plus side he lived 3 rounds, maybe 4....almost wanted to give him spells...but I chumped out and didn't go for it...
there is a kraken in the Adventure Book called Storm Kings Thunder, the kraken is called Slarkenthal. He can cast 9th level spells. He's pretty BS to fight him at the level they designed it at.
I would also throw in Silence because it stops casters from casting most of their spells however it more just forces them to move out the area because it only has a 20 ft radius.
Most enemy characters will have at least something that teleports silently or a movement of 35 feet to get out of range for spirit shroud
Lair effects as well as Lair, Legendary and Mythic actions would be a nice video to watch especially with them appearing more often in lower level play, helping DMs connect and make better use of them
the end part is so true, make them feel mortal, not kill them without a plot reason

You asked for input on a next level 20 BootCamp...I would like how you think up high stakes concepts...like you example of the city filled with disinformation...like lvl 20 play can be fighting dragons and shit, but it can also because solving the worlds problems through critical thinking...so I'd like for you to zoom in on the Avengers level threats, and how you come to those ideas. Thanks again outlaw.
More Wish BS: I had a Sorcerer drive Yeenoghu insane with a Wish made Symbol (7th level spell that normally takes a 1 minute and some gold to draw). Yeenoghu. Demon Lord of Madness, Hunger, and Ruin. Not immune to Insanity effects. Cue my screaming.

Wait ... sheild gives +5?! I always thought it gave +2!(I don't play 5e too often)
Shield gives +5 (and Magic Missile immunity) for 1 round, Shield of Faith gives +2 for a whole minute.

All dms need to listen to 15:50 this is the real...constantly I get my players being like " we kicked your ass...wasn't even hard" meanwhile I'm thinking...I could have killed you all, I just failed at my dropping a few players...
Player's Handbook where all the broken spells are. Everywhere else is supposedly balanced lol.
Something I just thought of. Would dispell magic work to get rid of for example a Paladin aura or a bardic inspiration?
I agree with a lot of this, not all of it, but at the same time, counter, spelling, a reincarnation, or any other revival spell, just seems mean.
At high level it’s the best way to keep combat interesting. If you haven’t been playing a lot at high level I can definitely understand how alien and weird this seems on the surface, but at high level it’s only way to keep those bastards down
In defense to shield, you say mage armour brings up ac to 18, but to be fair, even at high level play, a lot of spellcasters don't have a +5 dexterity. Since many people also take feats. and it also requires you to take 19 levels into a class to get 5 asi (excluding fighter and rogue). With rolling ror stats? Yeah then it becomes more likely, but even then, not everybody is gonna max out their dex. Especially with point buy if you don't want to dump things like wisdom or constitution.
Most people are gonna have 14-16 dex as full casters which brings mage armour with shield to around 20-21. I won't say it's a well designed spell, but you can see the intention.
Granted multiclassing can break this, but multiclassing can be strong in general if you know what you are doing, so eh...
I do have one question. How does the spell Weird works? I've been trying to look that up, but because of the name I get, weird DnD stories, weird spell combos, weird multi-class builds. In a campaign I'm currently in, our party got a magical crown that was made from the weird spell and we all level 5 and that spell is a level 9 spell. So, I'm confused and worried how the spell works.
