  • Before the Arctic Retile Ranch was a thing, I kept a variety of herps, not just shelled ones. While still in Alaska, I had 1/2 a room full of bioactive enclosures with various dart frog species. Now that I am settled and retired from the Air Force, I've been enjoying my time by creating more mini-habiscapes. In this video I take you on the creative journey involved with setting up such a biome from start to finish. Watch this 12x12x24 glass box become something alive and amazing.

MeTr0 Reaper, well if my views and number of subscribers is any indication, I probably won’t be. That’s not important to me though. Sharing things I’ve learned and the processes that I use is what really matters. If I can help someone take better care of their animals, win!

love the video looks cool what are you going to put in it? How long do you leave it before you stock it?
Would it be possible to make something like that but a lot bigger for a small semi-aquatic turtle?

Karen V , I have no specific time frame, just kind of when I get around to it. The larger cage was planted and growing for over two years before I decided to put an animal in it.
Yes this could be applied on a much larger scale for water turtles. You would need to give it a good 6 months or more for all of the plants and any shrimp, fish, isopods, etc to establish. Even with strong roots though, an aquatic turtle could still tear up a gorgeous aquarium in short time. That’s why I say on a way larger scale; in larger numbers some plants have a chance to survive turtle claws/curiosity.
