I Built a Giant Treetop Rainforest Canopy Vivarium

  • I created the ultimate tree canopy vivarium, called Orchadia, a world of trees, an extension vivarium to my first giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora. The whole biological project of executing a canopy habitat was extremely challenging to construct, requiring me to stretch my terrarium-building skills. There were unique obstacles I faced creating this tree layer, which science knows contains the highest concentration of life in the rainforest. I researched, constructed, and even got a tip from a special creature already living within the vivarium. Hope you enjoy this Episode 13, Season 2 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

A orchid mantis will be perfect here! They are known for their orchid like appearance and suitable for this canopy vivarium!

You're channel was literally a life saver for me, when I first found your channel almost 4 years ago I was battling a terrible addiction, and as I was trying to get clean, watching your channel helped me get through some of the worst times especially at night. Sitting here now watching you CLEAN and SOBER and where you have gotten from an apartment to your huge land I'm proud of us both!! Thank you and keep up your amazing work!!

I think it would be cool to add large blue butterflies. These insects sneak into ant colonies as larvae, pretending to be one of them until they become butterflies. It would be a sight to behold.

To create a canopy part to Pandora is genius. This direction you´ve gone has made it impossible to miss any episodes. It´s so fascinating.

Not only are you an expert in recreating mini-ecosystems, you're storytelling abilities are top-notch.

EDIT: I am talking about pest control OUTSIDE my home. - Do you want to know how changed I am because of your dedication and work on your channel? I canceled my pest control several months ago as you started to show me the beauty of the creatures that live around my home. I get excited now when I see an ant hill or an orb spider, weaving its magic at night. Sometimes I am still a little freaked out, however, a watch of one of your videos brings me back to the realization that God created these creatures and who am I to destroy? Thank you so much for shining a light on this often unrecognized and misunderstood ecosystem. I am forever thankful!

Love the look, but I think the reason you might have been struggling with the design is the balance of open space. On the lower level you have it well "grounded", but in the canopy you filled the lower space; but a canopies' space is more like an umbrella. It should be more top heavy with negative space below to create the sense of a drop or emptiness. Still far better than anything I have ever done.

Dude, you are seriously creating some of the most historically impressive captive settings for animals. I seriously cannot understate how valuable what you do is. It's genuinely beautiful.

That tree frog should be called 'Ninja' because with all the time, effort, shaping, reshaping and movement in Orchadia he managed to stay hidden somewhere the entire time without you knowing. It is so incredible!

Orchids are such a flex. I bet most people who grow them wish they had their own rainforest canopy, lol.

I dont think there's anything in this world that can compare with what you've done with this channel. I have been getting consistently excited for your uploads for about 10 years now, but this series has had me on the edge of my seat for every episode. I genuinely just want to thank you for the amazing stories and series that have kept me engaged and interested for so long.

the new canopy is beautiful, but that spider is unironically the saviour of this canopy. I love this channel, and everything you've went through has inspired me in so many ways. Thanks for doing that.

In fact, the introduction of tree trunks on the sides gave a totally different view of a real canopy!!

The Mysterious RUclips Algorithm Recommended your channel to me a couple months ago and I have been watching every video since. The Way you edit and Narrate your videos reminds me of watching the Old national Geographic Specials that would air all the time when I was a kid. Instead of Lions, Tigers, Elephants, sharks and the Antarctic, it is a fascinating and educational look at some of the smallest animals and their habitats. Thank you for sharing your hard work and passion with us.

“Et in Arcadia ego”🌎Greetings, Pantdora creator, and beautiful work. In bonsai, we encourage aerial roots in our banyan ficus three ways: 1) Limiting water to the rootball. 2) Increasing the ambient moisture in the crown/air with a humidifier. 3) The best and most fun - cut a slit up a plastic straw and trim it to fit so as propped between a branch/trunk and the soil. Inside the plastic straw is now a humidity chamber and a root node will activate and grow down the straw into the ground. Once established, we remove the straw. With larger material, any hollow plastic tubing that is pre-sliced will work but you might want to use black or paint it to match the surroundings until a natural root forms. The other methods will have multiple random aerial roots, this method allows for strategic placement of single roots. [I once made a large split-tank vernal pool with mole salamanders for teaching kids about wetlands, keeping the layers of balance is so hard!]

The next spider you should add is a Golden Orb Silk spider. Interesting looking spider that can get quite big and loves to make its web in between trees. Just an idea I thought of when I saw that baby orb spider.
