  • In this video I go into detail about how to remove your windshield wiper arm completely. The steps done in the video should apply to almost any car with slight variation. I share the steps and tricks I have found to getting the arm off. Hopefully they help you avoid any kind of problems that can occur and save you some money in the process.

Thanks for the great tutorial Daniel! prepped the spindle bolt with PB Blaster penetrating spray, bought the Lisle 54150 wiper arm removal tool ($25 bucks at O'Reillys) and literally took 3 minutes to take off the wiper arm that has 18 years of corrosion! That tool is worth every penny, splurge on the Lisle tool, its a quality piece that won't disappoint,,,tip: use the tape trick mentioned in some posts for the wiper arm re-install AND make sure you hold the arm as you tighten the 13mm nut, otherwise you may move the second arm alignment (they are linked with a crossbar), happened to me and wasted time having to install/remove/install second arm to get correct alignment.

A little piece of advice to make it easier: Turn your wipers on before hand and stop them in a straight up position. Reduces the risk of marring or cracking the cowl piece.

Thank you for your video. I picked up the tool from Home Depot and only took me a min or two to pop the arm removed from my Audi. In my case I just needed to replace a broken wiper arm. Sprayed WD40 over night and used the tool to pop it out. Good tool. As you explained centering it is very critical step for an effective, safe and purposeful application. The tool’s different brand version is carried out by so many vendors. Price range from $11’s to 30’s. I chose HD its proximity and availability of the tool. Basically all of them may serve the purpose equally. Good luck for the ones plan to use. Excellent advice.

You`ll want to mark the position of the wiper blades relative to the windshield prior to removing the arms. That would ease re installation.

I’ve got that exact same tool. Put it on and cranked it down til I couldn’t turn it any more but no luck on either wiper arm. Used a lot of WD40 too. Gonna try some heat with a small torch and maybe buy a heavier duty wiper blade puller that will fit in that space.

In the past I’ve only had to do the passenger side. The drivers side never flooded. Those darn drain holes at the bottom of each barrier compartment gets stopped up with leaves 🍁. Last time doing the passenger side the compartment was 3/4 full of water! 🤔 I am fixing to get a wire hanger and see if I can’t unplug the hole from underneath rather than removing the wiper arms. I’ll be back if it works to tell y’all.
I’m back, and I didn’t need the wire hanger. The rubber gasket / boot thing the leaves 🍁 and such clog up is totally visible on the drivers side. Unless you are replacing those little clip gaskets or such under that cover, the drains on both sides can be cleaned out from underneath, no need to remover either side.....come to find out....💁🏽‍♀️ Since I had the cover off on the passenger side, I did clean it good and Armor-All’d it. I did Drivers side too with it in place.
No more wet floor boards. Now to clean that mess before the Alabama humidity kicks in. May have to remove the auto carpet entirely. Have a nice day, ya’ll!

Thanks for the video. My car has so much dirt and leaves stuck under the vent that it has caused water to leak inside the car.

Those are splines on the tapered part of the shaft, not threads

For anybody watching, you don’t HAVE to buy that tool. What I did was soak the stud in pb blaster, get a hammer and pull upwards while tapping the top of the stud with the hammer. It backed it out enough to where I got a pry bar and put a couple towels down so I didn’t pry on the paint or anything, and used it to pry it the rest of the way off. Worked great and didn’t break anything

my car front glass was a scratched and I tried to fix it with a sand paper (1000) and it got worse. kindly advise what to do 😂

You need a Dimond compound to fix scratched glass. Never expect the glass to return to perfect after it has been scratched. If your wipers scratched a big arc across the windshield get a new one professionally installed.

If the cowl area gets flooded with water (driver's side does not drain properly) for an extended period of time....wiper motor submerged in water...result can be water getting into and corroding the electronic box attached to the wiper motor. That box is not available as a separate part. Best to buy entire wiper motor, which comes with that box attached, easily available as a used part from recycling yards. I paid around 50 dollar for one. New motor is about 180 dollars.
