Thank you for the really fun stream and congratulations on completing your first few hunts! Despite your initial reservations with playing a MH game, you did really well! You're still a bit rough around the edges but, don't worry, this is completely normal especially since this is your first MH game. It's nothing a tutorial or two and a bit of practice won't fix! Soon enough you will be slaying monsters in style! Also, as a fellow Switch Axe main, I welcome you to the Best Weapon Club (definitely no biases here!). You couldn't have picked the best weapon for yourself. It's not terribly difficult to learn, nor is it too braindead to use. You've already played through many games with complex battle systems before so having a weapon that is "right in the middle" in terms of complexity feels just right. That being said, don't feel too constrained to stay with one weapon. One of the joys of MH is experiencing the different mechanics of the different weapons. Holomems tend to just stick with one in their playthroughs but it's not a bad idea to try others. We hope that you will continue to play this game as time goes by! It's a great game to play during offstream hours (as monster material grinding is best done offstream) and story missions could be done on-stream. It's also a great collab game especially with how so many holomems in every branch like the game so there're tons of socializing opportunities. Happy hunting!

Great job hunting, you got great hunting instincts! Don't worry about perfecting your combos right now, just focus on reading the monster and evading, as well as properly using all of your hunting tools and items! A great thing to learn early is how to set up your own pre-set item loadout so you can just load it instead of messing with your inventory all the time, and also you should learn about how to use the item wheel, which is basically a hotkey system for your items, so you don't have to scroll through the items every time.
It's fun to mess around in character creation, the hour it took was worth it, I guess BeardRyS was just a fever dream... I'm not a big fan of long adventure games (so I mostly have the stream on the background) but I can appreciate the monster's design and the cool fights, and it's nice to see you having a good time in the game 5:35:30 wish I could watch that khezu moment live but it was already past my bed time, I also believed that it was a real bgm lol Gracias por el stream
I’m having to watch this in bits and pieces but I love this game and I have a few tips that I think might help. Some of these you may have found already and it has been a while since I played so I might be misremembering some things, so a bit of a heads up 1- for basic things like hair, makeup and other minor changes, you can modify them without character tickets by speaking to your housekeeper. A lot of similar things can be done by speaking to them, so you might want to check it out 2- I played on PS4, box Xbox or PC, so I don’t know their layout. But you can check out button layout in options and modify them to your liking at anytime. When doing it a sidescreen should pop up showing the current layout, so maybe a screenshot or cheat sheet may help you memorize your own layout. 3- there are quests that are marked as side quests that can really help you later, so check them out and you get major updates on support and supplies. This is really helpful when you want to start mass farming material and don’t want to spend hours grinding for not much gain. Some are connected to the story and can change dialogue depending on what you did. 4-if you want your characters face to be visible, you can go into options and choose to hide your headgear if you want. I always do this because I love watching my characters face as the story goes on. 5-for the fashion conscious hunter, layered armor is great. You can modify your armor without compromising your character. This is unlocked by side quest if I remember right. 6-if you get stuck, Wiki is your friend. I’ve used it several times to help me out with strategies for monsters I get stuck on. While this game didn’t require entire spreadsheets to make a build for a single hunt, it does have a learning curve. All armors have skills you can use to either make your hunt easier or help you on quests. 7- you can have pets! Anything that is small and is labeled as endemic life can be caught by the capture net, though some have special conditions or times to catch. You can put them in your room and have an army of cute little creatures to come home to after a hunt! You even get rewards from catching them! There are a lot of guides detailing how to trigger these rare creatures on RUclips, so that can help if you want to. I had others but I think it would be more fun letting you find them on your own. I hope these were helpful! And maybe bring your wife along, I think she’ll feel right at home here. After all, she’s from Australia, so this world where everything is trying to kill you will remind her of home!
I'm elated you picked up this game and even moreso that you chose Switch Axe! I'm super biased towards using it, it's my favorite! I hope you enjoy using it and get used to the moveset. Typically you can use Axe mode as the more mobile mode as it lets you roll with and can hit high with overhead swings and Sword Mode is for when you're up close to ready to deal damage. You can only amp up your weapon in Sword Mode so you'll get used to being in that mode a lot, I think. I would suggest hunting Great Jagras a bit more just to be able make the Jagras Axe, it's super strong early on (and it's not OP Defender gear so chat won't be able to complain! )
I'm feel so happy you're playing a game we like to play too, it's okay to make whatever weapons you want at the beginning, the higher dragons will make better weapons and equipment later on, and you can sell the materials to make money
Welcome to Monster Hunter World IRyS. (I just started watching VOD) I hear you're trying this for the first time. Have some fun and don't be afraid to experiment a little.
It was really fun seeing you start from scratch and progress so quickly, as you've seen ppl have tons of hours in this game, so no worries about skill level it takes a good while to get used to and master the system, but you're definitely improving super quick. I wish I could've had some advice but I've only played rise and definitely don't have the triple digit hours of some others but it was still tons of fun watching.
Just in case it didn't come up in chat (I might've missed it) but the bow does not cost money to use, someone tried to 'One-Guy' you. You _can_ buy the coatings, but you can also craft them, and there's always some in the supply chest when you start each mission. The bowguns are in the same boat there, you can buy amoo or you can craft it, and you always get a bit in the supply chest. Coatings for the bow do require phials to craft, but you always get free phials from the supply chest, and those phials actually go a long ways. However, even if you do end up needing to purchase phials, coatings or ammo at some point, they tend to be pretty cheap; the rewards from a single 1☆ story quest are enough to buy up to a few thousand phials or a few hundred rounds of ammo and coatings. I personally don't have much a preference between the bow and bowguns in MHW, but it's really hard to turn down the free health regen offered on many bows in MHR even if I'm taking any hits.

The bug collects juice when it hits a specific monster part: white buffs speed and stamina, you get this from monster's legs or wings usually; orange buffs defense and stability, you get it from the body of the monster; and red buffs damage and gives a better attacks, you get it from the monster's "weapons", like arms or head usually. Once you get all three you get an additional buff to all their base buffs. The bug has its own energy/stamina, so you don't want to have it out before getting all the juices. I like to free aim the juices usually. Stay close to the monster, free aim launch the bug, recall, repeat until all colors are gathered. At the same time the bug leaves dust effects out when it hits a monster, these are really useful when a bunch are around the field and you get to trigger them dealing massive damage with a blast dust for example. The bug marker leaves a spot on the monster where the bug will track and target. This is like an auto attack that is pretty useful sometimes to accumulate dust clouds. The jumping attacks are technically less efficient than just wailing on the monster while grounded, but they offer more mobility, more safety sometimes, and you get to mount really often. IIRC you get three attacks in the air, so after the second bounce off the monster it's good to dash and spin down with heavy attack.

Thanks for the stream today IRyS. I've been curious about Monster Hunter for a while but never really got into it since there're so many version and expansion. Seeing you play really makes me want to try it out too. About Holo x Break, chat was being kinda vague, it takes around 1-2 hours on average to clear but it would take longer on your first run since it's a rogue like and meant to be played coop (in my opinion anyway, solo was a pain to play for me). I wouldn't recommend playing it if you have a time limit that day
It was really a fun and entertaining stream! So many good tangents and also funny moments. I couldn’t stop laughing at the meat cooking that failed on the beginning because it reminded me of Kronii with the “Congratulations” meat, I’m sorry XD... I’m so proud of how you got the basics with the game pretty fast and how you took your time to pick a weapon of preference! From personal experience I suggest you though to give it a try hunting simple monsters with other weapons as well (having a secondary weapon to main is not a bad idea, adds a lot of variety for streams too I think). It really feels like playing a different game with each one. If you like the general formula of the base game. I really recommend you to buy the Iceborne expansion in the future, it actually adds double the content if not more :). Also I think that when you’ll play it with Flare, it will be double the fun even off stream! It makes me smile that the dynamics of how I got into Monster Hunter World are similar to yours. I had a friend who convinced me to play that game with her during the weekends but before that I wasn’t interested to it for years, then I was so captivated by it that I started playing more on my own! I love knowing more about your food preferences and other small things. It’s just fun when you really like someone and enjoy her voice at the same time, everything becomes more interesting specially the small and casual talk. Honestly, you really make me more interested in learning the language and your transitions between english and japanese are motivating me so much for studying. Even when I’m working on other things and looking after someone I keep one headphone on my ear and keep listening to japanese streams constantly to “train my ear” (specially you and Flare most of the time). Now it’s just a matter of finding the time to squeeze in for the writing and reading but I’ll work harder to get it somehow. As usual thanks for being a huge motivation in my life. Even when bad things happen or I feel like life got me stuck between very difficult challenges, just your company is more than enough to make me overcome many of them. PS: I really recommend you to continue the story off stream, the majority of people in chat are all players who already beat the story game :D. As a disciple of the boom, I have to admit I was sad when you didn't go with Gunlance as it's my favourite weapon and really strong in the right hands. But at the same time I totally get it, it's one of the harder weapons to learn when you're new. Still, perhaps something to look at later? The path of explosions is a joyous one~

Thanks for playing my favourite game series and Flare for pushing you to play it sasuga soulmate did a very good job. I can tell you have a pretty good MH sense such as dodging and vision controlling (keeping eye on the monster at anytime is important). It even doesn't seem it's the first time of you playing the MH game. However MH still has too much to learn and I believe you can do better and better in the future. My first suggestion is that you can try watch some weapon tutorial on youtube and see how to use the combo of Switch Axe. As a SA main I need to tell it is a pretty hard weapon to use compared to the others, so don't feel fustrated if you can't beat some hard monster in the future, maybe try other weapon and you will find the game much easier(yeah like the longsword and dual bade). Well I never thought I would see someone playing Monster Hunter world considering a lot of people jumped into rise when that came out but I'm happy to see that someone is playing this game. That said this is my first time hearing the characters in Japanese since I've been so used to people talking about the english version and hating on handler's voice in english which my thoughts on Japanese handler is: I don't know but she feels more basic in Japanese almost too cute. Aside from that the character customization is pretty well done and I was about to say stuff if we were gonna have a character that had big puffy lips but thankfully that didn't happen and the back story that IRyS made for her character was good, even if I was screaming when we got to the princess eating food like a barbarian she's not a princess if she's acting like a hunter IRyS lol. Again I do give her props for the back story and it is nice to go back to world when they did try to give us a plot before we went back to the typical there is no plot in rise and the gameplay still looks just as good as it usually does. Great job in playing world Princess IRyS!

Monster Hunter: World was I think their best selling release too, so there will always be experienced fans wanting to watch people play it. I think a hammer might suit you better, though the switch axe you're currently using is undoubtedly a great weapon. I myself finished the game with a switch axe, but still, I tried out other weapons to find the one that suited me best. If you have the chance, I recommend trying out different weapons. Thank you for the really fun stream and congratulations on completing your first few hunts! Despite your initial reservations with playing a MH game, you did really well! You're still a bit rough around the edges but, don't worry, this is completely normal especially since this is your first MH game. It's nothing a tutorial or two and a bit of practice won't fix! Soon enough you will be slaying monsters in style!
Also, as a fellow Switch Axe main, I welcome you to the Best Weapon Club (definitely no biases here!). You couldn't have picked the best weapon for yourself. It's not terribly difficult to learn, nor is it too braindead to use. You've already played through many games with complex battle systems before so having a weapon that is "right in the middle" in terms of complexity feels just right. That being said, don't feel too constrained to stay with one weapon. One of the joys of MH is experiencing the different mechanics of the different weapons. Holomems tend to just stick with one in their playthroughs but it's not a bad idea to try others.
We hope that you will continue to play this game as time goes by! It's a great game to play during offstream hours (as monster material grinding is best done offstream) and story missions could be done on-stream. It's also a great collab game especially with how so many holomems in every branch like the game so there're tons of socializing opportunities.

Great job hunting, you got great hunting instincts! Don't worry about perfecting your combos right now, just focus on reading the monster and evading, as well as properly using all of your hunting tools and items! A great thing to learn early is how to set up your own pre-set item loadout so you can just load it instead of messing with your inventory all the time, and also you should learn about how to use the item wheel, which is basically a hotkey system for your items, so you don't have to scroll through the items every time.
It's fun to mess around in character creation, the hour it took was worth it, I guess BeardRyS was just a fever dream... I'm not a big fan of long adventure games (so I mostly have the stream on the background) but I can appreciate the monster's design and the cool fights, and it's nice to see you having a good time in the game

I’m having to watch this in bits and pieces but I love this game and I have a few tips that I think might help. Some of these you may have found already and it has been a while since I played so I might be misremembering some things, so a bit of a heads up
1- for basic things like hair, makeup and other minor changes, you can modify them without character tickets by speaking to your housekeeper. A lot of similar things can be done by speaking to them, so you might want to check it out
2- I played on PS4, box Xbox or PC, so I don’t know their layout. But you can check out button layout in options and modify them to your liking at anytime. When doing it a sidescreen should pop up showing the current layout, so maybe a screenshot or cheat sheet may help you memorize your own layout.
3- there are quests that are marked as side quests that can really help you later, so check them out and you get major updates on support and supplies. This is really helpful when you want to start mass farming material and don’t want to spend hours grinding for not much gain. Some are connected to the story and can change dialogue depending on what you did.
4-if you want your characters face to be visible, you can go into options and choose to hide your headgear if you want. I always do this because I love watching my characters face as the story goes on.
5-for the fashion conscious hunter, layered armor is great. You can modify your armor without compromising your character. This is unlocked by side quest if I remember right.
6-if you get stuck, Wiki is your friend. I’ve used it several times to help me out with strategies for monsters I get stuck on. While this game didn’t require entire spreadsheets to make a build for a single hunt, it does have a learning curve. All armors have skills you can use to either make your hunt easier or help you on quests.
7- you can have pets! Anything that is small and is labeled as endemic life can be caught by the capture net, though some have special conditions or times to catch. You can put them in your room and have an army of cute little creatures to come home to after a hunt! You even get rewards from catching them! There are a lot of guides detailing how to trigger these rare creatures on RUclips, so that can help if you want to.
I had others but I think it would be more fun letting you find them on your own. I hope these were helpful! And maybe bring your wife along, I think she’ll feel right at home here. After all, she’s from Australia, so this world where everything is trying to kill you will remind her of home!
I'm elated you picked up this game and even moreso that you chose Switch Axe! I'm super biased towards using it, it's my favorite! I hope you enjoy using it and get used to the moveset. Typically you can use Axe mode as the more mobile mode as it lets you roll with and can hit high with overhead swings and Sword Mode is for when you're up close to ready to deal damage. You can only amp up your weapon in Sword Mode so you'll get used to being in that mode a lot, I think. Hope to see you play this some more soon!
3:29:00 "I could kill another Great Jagras, but honestly I think I'm done with that." I love that you started to hunt the Anjanath as soon as you could, that's exactly how my first playthrough went! I was obsessed with slaying it since it showed up and griefed me and it took me hours to do with Light Bowgun. I would suggest hunting Great Jagras a bit more just to be able make the Jagras Axe, it's super strong early on (and it's not OP Defender gear so chat won't be able to complain! )
I'm feel so happy you're playing a game we like to play too, it's okay to make whatever weapons you want at the beginning, the higher dragons will make better weapons and equipment later on, and you can sell the materials to make money
Welcome to Monster Hunter World IRyS. (I just started watching VOD) I hear you're trying this for the first time. Have some fun and don't be afraid to experiment a little.
It was really fun seeing you start from scratch and progress so quickly, as you've seen ppl have tons of hours in this game, so no worries about skill level it takes a good while to get used to and master the system, but you're definitely improving super quick. I wish I could've had some advice but I've only played rise and definitely don't have the triple digit hours of some others but it was still tons of fun watching.
Just in case it didn't come up in chat (I might've missed it) but the bow does not cost money to use, someone tried to 'One-Guy' you. You _can_ buy the coatings, but you can also craft them, and there's always some in the supply chest when you start each mission. The bowguns are in the same boat there, you can buy amoo or you can craft it, and you always get a bit in the supply chest. Coatings for the bow do require phials to craft, but you always get free phials from the supply chest, and those phials actually go a long ways. However, even if you do end up needing to purchase phials, coatings or ammo at some point, they tend to be pretty cheap; the rewards from a single 1☆ story quest are enough to buy up to a few thousand phials or a few hundred rounds of ammo and coatings.
I personally don't have much a preference between the bow and bowguns in MHW, but it's really hard to turn down the free health regen offered on many bows in MHR even if I'm taking any hits.
As an IG main I simply must pimp the blessed helicopter!
So the deal and action plan of the insect glaive is get juices, get wild. The bug collects juice when it hits a specific monster part: white buffs speed and stamina, you get this from monster's legs or wings usually; orange buffs defense and stability, you get it from the body of the monster; and red buffs damage and gives a better attacks, you get it from the monster's "weapons", like arms or head usually. Once you get all three you get an additional buff to all their base buffs.
The bug has its own energy/stamina, so you don't want to have it out before getting all the juices. I like to free aim the juices usually. Stay close to the monster, free aim launch the bug, recall, repeat until all colors are gathered. At the same time the bug leaves dust effects out when it hits a monster, these are really useful when a bunch are around the field and you get to trigger them dealing massive damage with a blast dust for example. The bug marker leaves a spot on the monster where the bug will track and target. This is like an auto attack that is pretty useful sometimes to accumulate dust clouds.
The jumping attacks are technically less efficient than just wailing on the monster while grounded, but they offer more mobility, more safety sometimes, and you get to mount really often. IIRC you get three attacks in the air, so after the second bounce off the monster it's good to dash and spin down with heavy attack.
Thanks for the stream IRyS! I think the switch axe fits you pretty well. I definitely wouldn't worry about messing around with other weapons, if you found one you like it's easiest just to stick to one and learn it well. Very happy to see you checking out Monster Hunter, hope to see more!

Thanks for the stream today IRyS. I've been curious about Monster Hunter for a while but never really got into it since there're so many version and expansion. Seeing you play really makes me want to try it out too.
About Holo x Break, chat was being kinda vague, it takes around 1-2 hours on average to clear but it would take longer on your first run since it's a rogue like and meant to be played coop (in my opinion anyway, solo was a pain to play for me). I wouldn't recommend playing it if you have a time limit that day
It was really a fun and entertaining stream! So many good tangents and also funny moments. I couldn’t stop laughing at the meat cooking that failed on the beginning because it reminded me of Kronii with the “Congratulations” meat, I’m sorry XD...
I’m so proud of how you got the basics with the game pretty fast and how you took your time to pick a weapon of preference! From personal experience I suggest you though to give it a try hunting simple monsters with other weapons as well (having a secondary weapon to main is not a bad idea, adds a lot of variety for streams too I think). It really feels like playing a different game with each one.
If you like the general formula of the base game. I really recommend you to buy the Iceborne expansion in the future, it actually adds double the content if not more :). Also I think that when you’ll play it with Flare, it will be double the fun even off stream!
It makes me smile that the dynamics of how I got into Monster Hunter World are similar to yours. I had a friend who convinced me to play that game with her during the weekends but before that I wasn’t interested to it for years, then I was so captivated by it that I started playing more on my own!
I love knowing more about your food preferences and other small things. It’s just fun when you really like someone and enjoy her voice at the same time, everything becomes more interesting specially the small and casual talk.
Honestly, you really make me more interested in learning the language and your transitions between english and japanese are motivating me so much for studying. Even when I’m working on other things and looking after someone I keep one headphone on my ear and keep listening to japanese streams constantly to “train my ear” (specially you and Flare most of the time). Now it’s just a matter of finding the time to squeeze in for the writing and reading but I’ll work harder to get it somehow.
As usual thanks for being a huge motivation in my life. Even when bad things happen or I feel like life got me stuck between very difficult challenges, just your company is more than enough to make me overcome many of them. Your streams and songs are always so precious to me.

I can't believe that you picked up Switch Axe as your first weapon on the game A little advice is go sword mode whenever you can if the gauge below your health bar max out. also if the icon fully light up, you deal more dmg and triangle/circle move lets you stick on the monster when you hit it.

I can tell you have a pretty good MH sense such as dodging and vision controlling (keeping eye on the monster at anytime is important). It even doesn't seem it's the first time of you playing the MH game. However MH still has too much to learn and I believe you can do better and better in the future.
My first suggestion is that you can try watch some weapon tutorial on youtube and see how to use the combo of Switch Axe. As a SA main I need to tell it is a pretty hard weapon to use compared to the others, so don't feel fustrated if you can't beat some hard monster in the future, maybe try other weapon and you will find the game much easier(yeah like the longsword and dual bade). Well I never thought I would see someone playing Monster Hunter world considering a lot of people jumped into rise when that came out but I'm happy to see that someone is playing this game. That said this is my first time hearing the characters in Japanese since I've been so used to people talking about the english version and hating on handler's voice in english which my thoughts on Japanese handler is: I don't know but she feels more basic in Japanese almost too cute. Aside from that the character customization is pretty well done and I was about to say stuff if we were gonna have a character that had big puffy lips but thankfully that didn't happen and the back story that IRyS made for her character was good, even if I was screaming when we got to the princess eating food like a barbarian she's not a princess if she's acting like a hunter IRyS lol. Again I do give her props for the back story and it is nice to go back to world when they did try to give us a plot before we went back to the typical there is no plot in rise and the gameplay still looks just as good as it usually does. Great job in playing world Princess IRyS!

I think a hammer might suit you better, though the switch axe you're currently using is undoubtedly a great weapon. I myself finished the game with a switch axe, but still, I tried out other weapons to find the one that suited me best. If you have the chance, I recommend trying out different weapons.
