When I worked at LR there was a rework on the restricted drain, to fix white smoke on cars that turbos were not faulty but restriction in drain cause oil pressure to seep accross seals.
I wish i had filmed it, but after such a large job the aim was to get it finished and back to the customer. Filming these videos really does add time to the process, but I like being able to add something to the car community so will continue to film videos and try improve the content as the channel grows.
I have a range rover sport hse 3.6 tdv8 and it says engine system fault. When I checked on the computer it says turbo charger super char charge boost but there are no engine issues at all. The engine runs beautifully and smooth. Any ideas please. Thanks
The best method. However I've heard people have struggled in the body and done one bank. If doing both i would take the body off. I would advise it either way as i don't think you'll do a good job struggling in the body, as you'll likely be bending things trying to do it.
Best Turbos in Birmingham have developed special tools and can replace both RR Sport TDV8 turbos without lifting body (I know I have had mine done by them)
Hey guys, i have a Problem, i changed My turbos. And now the Computer says i have to much Boost. In the zylinder gives a Detonation. What i have donewrong
Nah it was a first time customer. I'd like to think a rock got thrown up in there and it wasn't malicious or poor workmanship, but I have my doubts. Someone could have been messing with the starter motor, or possibly removing the transmission.
I pal has same vehicle (TDV8 HST) 2008... what is the approximate cost for the whole job (ballpark only) and would you do it again? What mileage to they fail at & why? Big thanks M
Not sure on cost off the tip of my head, and I'm in Australia so probably not relevant for you anyway. Yes I'd do it again. Not a bad job in my opinion.
There’s a number of theories why they fail. The most credible one I’ve seen is from a German engineer who reckons they should be run in 5W40 oil rather than 5w30 & the oil + filter should be changed every 5000miles. LR says every 15,000.
Hello mine showing bank 2 superchager performance, when i step on gas paddle both top boost pipes have no power seems like they are sucking air rather then pushing air, do you think is there any other checks or turbos needs changing
If the boost pipes are sucking flat, look for a restriction before that. Maybe the supercharger isn't turning? check the belt for the supercharger and the waterpump that drives it.
Only the supercharger is belt driven, not the turbo. The supercharger runs off of a small belt that is driven by the water pump. There is a solenoid on the water pump housing thst controls a clutch on the water pump pulley to allow the supercharger to be engaged and disengaged.
No. Body off is the only way to do it. The V8 diesel is a very tight squeeze in the engine bay. As you can see in the video, the turbos are tucked tightly in to the sides of the engine.

Nice to see an in depth quality job being done
Great video, I just wish we could have heard that first fire up after all the work and a test drive! :)

@@FourRingsAuto 👍 being in England especially Manchester where it’s constantly raining Range Rover is really don’t like it😂😂😂
@@FourRingsAuto the road salt in the UK is a killer, I'm incredibly envious.

Please make sure nobody hears you it’s a secret lol
Is raising the body of the chassis the best and only method to access the turbos, or can you access in situ? Enjoyed the vid

It is possible to remove without body off, have done both banks without lifting the chassis off the body.

ever find out what/who/how the turbo oil drain\oil return pipe was crushed?

I'm shocked that it did not rev up and blow engine with that much oil in intake pipe
thanks
No problem. Hope it was of interest to you or some way helpful.

@@FourRingsAuto thankyou i will check that and report back 👍
how long do the turbo last what kind millage thinking buyimg one they say they been replaced
Philip Pope I have seen them blow both turbos about 80k miles, more prone over 100k!
Proper maintenance and good oil will vastly improve the chances of the turbos lasting the life of the car
Hi there
Good work
Have you got a how to remove the body?. Thanks
I have a video coming shortly that shows more of removing the body.
Ok 👍 thanks
Also I forgot to ask
How do you deal with the steering column?. Thanks
Can you do it removing the engine instead of lifting the body?

@@hughmarcus1 ok what about on the V6 3.0 DIESEL only has one turbo . 2016 rrs
You can do them without taking the body out, not everyone would be able to but there's at least 2 people out there that managed to do it
My bank account would in cardiac arrest at the thought of how much all that work and parts would be 😮😯😦
It was an expensive one for sure.
How much brv and how many days
OMG you need to take all the body off !!!! how much it cost ? it is a commun problém ? ???
Sorry not sure on price as this was about 18 months ago. Expensive. The car had multiple issues. Common enough but not very common.
