- Although my EGR’s are causing me no problems on the FFRR, I decided to blank them off in order to avoid future issues.
*I just realised the audio background music didn’t get added properly to this video - sorry 😬
Three Range Rovers later and I never knew about that service position on the bonnet. Makes things a lot easy to get too and see, cheers for that 👍👍
I’ve had an identical TDV8 for years and I’m always tinkering with it. I’ve watched countless hours of L322 videos and this is also the first I’ve heard about the service position! Extremely useful tip, much appreciated! 👍🏻
Good tinkering 😉👍
Thanks! Your channel will be very helpful now the algorithm has finally introduced me, I feel slightly dumb for never noticing the retention clips on my own though! 🤦🏻♂️😂
Me too. Can’t remember who showed me, but I definitely didn’t figure it out myself 😂
I must say your very talented and appear not to be put off to much at tackling the big jobs on your cars. Hope your BMW is running well
Got myself a cheap 3.6 tdv8 last week and this is the first job I did to it based on this guide. Watched it through a few times then went and and did it first time with no problems at all...took about an hour and a half. To the casual observer I must have looked like a master mechanic lol. No error messages or fault codes. Seems to pick up so much smoother but then that might just be in my head, Thanks very much for posting this it was invaluable.
Where did you order the kit from?
@@shanewhite4581 www.egr-delete.co.uk....just put tdv8 into their search tool. £29.99 includes everything you need including new bolts, also good instructions as per this video.
I think I would have done the lower first... knowing my luck I’d have drop a bolt of washer down the lower outlet!
That’s probably a sensible suggestion 👍
I got my kit from x8r today, cheaper kits are available, to try and fix the rough idle and slow response on my L322 Tdv8 3.6 2007, Fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it goes.
Good to see the old Range Rover again. Might be worth mentioning that those with less steady hands than yourself should consider replacing the lower blanking plate first just to avoid dropping anything into the open port. Also just to clarify as I’ve seen it mentioned it’s not actually illegal to delete the EGR valve, the official term is “it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of the EGR will almost invariably contravene these requirements.” There are fines that can be imposed for this, however, as you have already mentioned, the engine cover is not removed at the point of MOT nor would I expect it to be removed should you ever be stopped by the police for any reason. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Well done, great comment! You put it so much better than me 👍😀
In the event of some bad accident damage an insurance assessor would easily spot that they have been removed though so bear that in mind.
Since it was a sunny day in South Wales for a change, I took the opportunity to do the egr delete on my 2007 L322 Tdv8 3.6 . All went till I sheared the final torx screw. Luckily this only took an hour to remove. Lesson learned don't overtighten using electric tools 😂. I got the kit from X8R, £££ but good quality.
The alloy plug as an o-ring seal (as you know) so you should have cleaned its seating area prior to fitting (well I would have)
Better off without the music. Helpful video, thanks 👍
One less thing that can fail, instant power from idle and no more sooty crap filling up your intake manifold :)
Hi. Just wondering if you've had any problems since blanking the egr's as I'm thinking of doing mine (2007 tdv8)as they keep causing eml light to come on, but worried it might cause problems as I do quite a lot of mileage. Was also gonna get it remapped at same time
*Hello, for sale wheels alloy ORIGINAL Land Rover* ruclips.net/video/KkBLP9fzvf8/видео.html
I know, a lot of people do this. But, it is not street legal. In Europe, if you dirve a car that isn`t street legal, you loose your licence. Mot a big problem, because it is invisible, but... The other question: if the egr works, it reduces the burning temperature. Without egr, the engine wil runner hotter!
Yes, it’s technically true. And in a perfect world EGR valves can serve their purpose & reduce combustion temperatures, improve economy…. But for the RR L322 particularly, the x2 EGR valves on the 3.6 TDV8 are prone to failure & can have disastrous consequences. With older high-end vehicles like this it is understandable why people don’t want to risk failure for a tiny fuel economy gain 🤷♂️
Can you show us how to install an oil catch can on the L322 Range Rover 3.6 twin turbo diesel. Thanks and keep up the great videos its much appriciated.
Will it need one or two catch cans?
Just one can as crankcase vent oil separator is also one. Provent from MANN seems to me quite good, but no one has reported to install it yet.

*Hello, for sale wheels alloy ORIGINAL Land Rover* ruclips.net/video/KkBLP9fzvf8/видео.html
Hi, Where can we find the kit ? Thanks
has anyone asked/mentioned an emissions stest at MOT?
Diesels are not emissions tested in UK on MOT. They are smoke tested, EGR blanking / delete will not effect this at all. MOT friendly (as long as Engine Management Light stays off, which on 3.6TDV8s it will)
Now enjoy clean oil and knowing your egr can’t fail and take out the turbos and engine!
James T its a diesel the oil will never be clean 😬
You will be surprised, after I blanked the egrs and did a couple of oil changes to flush the engine, the oil now stays pretty clean and clear now. It’s made a massive difference.
Combustion temp will increase as will NOx emissions but on a plus side oil should be less acidic and cleaner inlet etc.
M James agreed, but the only issue with the rise in combustion temps is nox output. Nox is a reactive gas and breaks down very quickly (less than 20 minutes) so no issue unless you are running the car under full load in a tunnel for hours and who does that!
Again... no down side.
Hi nut when I blanked the egr on my freelander 2 it screwed up how the auto box changed gear I asked a land rover specialist if the egr vacuum is link to the gearbox and he said yes the only way I could get the car to run correctly was to have the egr's deleted from the ecu then I have no more issues not sure if this is the same for your tdv8
Thx matey phill
*Hello, for sale wheels alloy ORIGINAL Land Rover* ruclips.net/video/KkBLP9fzvf8/видео.html
Will you do EGR software deactivation too?
leusfx you don’t need too
@@gerryr1893 Are you sure? I read on FFRR that If you block the EGR, you risk pushing the compressors into surge when you step in and several turbos had been (reported) damaged previously. As the boost runs in open loop when the EGR is active, the turbos can overspeed or surge. As the boost runs in open loop when the EGR is active, the turbos can overspeed or surge. The guy says that it is possible to remap the vane set points to open up the vanes as well. I am not expert myself but think that there's some point in that.
Hi nice video. I have just brought a 2008 on of these. I have owned td5 for years and love it. I am wondering if the blanking kit worked as it’s something I am interested in doing to mine. Did it bring any lights on and did you notice and difference is n performance and economy.
Thanks for a great video.
Performance & economy were great (no detrimental effect anyway) & no warning lights for me. My L322 had no DPF either, so if yours doesn’t have one either then I imagine it’ll be the same
Nut Job thank you for the quick response. No mind don’t have DPF just cats which may disappear. Thanks for the info.
Love watching your videos!! Will you be adding an oil catch can on the Range Rover? I was wondering now that the EGR delete is done, will you do an Induction Cleaning?
When I first got the car I did a DIY induction clean using Turbo Revive which is sprayed into the intake. There’s a video on it if you look back a while...
I’m planning to do all the gearbox mechatronic seals when I get chance, fix my erratic fuel gauge & a few other bits if time permits. Then I’ll probably sell this & have a think about what to have for a new toy 😁
Nut Job I will have a look, it’s a amazing car. Just a shame I don’t live in the UK other wise I’ll be inline to buy the Range Rover. Looking forward to the next video.
Did your mpg go up after blanking the egr
I’d say they remained about the same tbh. I could often get ~30mpg on a run before & after 👍
hello I am looking for plates for range rover sport L320 v8
Thanks for the video. I found it useful to fit my blanking kit. No EML so far.
Hello mate. thanks for your video. It is very helpful. Is it necessary to modify any parameter in the control unit related to the egr after canceling it with that kit? ... or is it only necessary to put the kit on it ?. Mine is the sport model. But it has the same engine as yours.
In my experience, I had no problems with engine fault codes after blanking the EGR’s. I was actually expecting to need a remap to ‘code’ them out, however I found it wasn’t necessary on my car (however, it may not be the same for you). This model/year (2007) didn’t have a DPF & I know the DPF regen needs the help of the EGR valves, so if you have a DPF it may be different for you - but I’m not certain.
Thank you very much for the information. my engine has no DPF either. So I guess we are in the same place. Since I am also in 2007. As I have read in many forums, the Ecu needs to be reprogrammed to eliminate the Egr. But it is already known in this, some say one thing and others another. It is always good to have a partner like you to teach things clearly.
Will this kit solve egr code P140a ?
hi, egr drowned out and in the brain of the machine need to reflash something?
First video i have watch and understood, well done :-) Next were did you get delete kit from did the google/ebay search and they go from £12 to £200 ???? kit looks the same
Thank You Peter Kane
No Check engine lights triggered whatsoever? No need to electronically reprogram the engine computer?
Not in this 2007 model. I think that any newer models might have been different as they also started to feature a DPF…
I thought you were going to Sell the range rover
I love it too much 😢
@@Nut_Job. where did you buy the blanking kit?
If i just cleans the egr's more often isn't that still.ok?
Would like to know where did you buy it too! Have you mapped it? Any significal gains?
Now you've been driving it for a while after the EGR delete, any errors logged on dash or OBDll. Cheers.
None whatsoever 👍
Thank you for the confirmation on that, its good to know what your experience was before doing my own.
Did you have to delete the EGRs from the ECU?
I think that you should if you can get it coded out at a tuning shop. I actually haven’t, so the EGR valves are still opening/closing all the time but of course they’re now blocked off so there’s no effect. On newer cars this will usually throw a CEL but this engine doesn’t seem to know/care that the EGR is having no effect on the engine so far 🤷♂️
Nut Job thanks! I thought you removed the valves. Do you mean the ECU is still sending the signal?
Thanks for doing these videos; I’m assuming you’ve sold on the l322 at this point, but the videos you’ve created are still helpful for those of us battling the never ending issues…. I have a question regarding the EGR delete: is there any reason to completely remove the tube? Why not just install the metal plate next to the EGR and leave everything else as is? Why install the top “plug”?
The top (aluminium blank with rubber O-ring) needs to make an airtight seal on the inlet manifold because otherwise you’ll have ENORMOUS boost leak when your turbos are spinning 👍
@@Nut_Job. Excellent! Thanks for the response; I'll take your advice and blank both holes then.
Thanks for the cool video, I wanted to ask what are those grey connectors on top of the egr valve, thanks!
Old footage mate or did you get another l322?
New footage, but same L322 👍
Never sold it 😉
Hi, Where did you get the kit from, I live in France and it is nowhere to be found
Merci
I just found it on eBay & searched for “3.6 TDV8 EGR Blanking Kit”
Makes sense.
Will this pass an MOT now with the new emissions equipment visual tampering rules? Or does it pass because the engine cover hides everything?
As far as I know it should pass because they won’t remove the engine cover. It’ll need an MOT soon so I’ll find out then... 😀
@@Nut_Job. That's ideal. Really enjoyed your videos on the 330D N57 timing chain. What are your thoughts on an EGR blank for that?
I’m less keen to blank anything on that BMW engine unless it’s already been mapped-out. I’m currently battling an intermittent electrical issue at present - hence the lack of videos... I’m still working out what’s wrong! 😬🤔
Yes it will. I blanked mine off and it went straight through the MOT. Emissions were perfect.
Good video for EGR access instructions (and yes, replace the bottom plate first 😜). I have a TDV8 3.6 2010 L322 and have had my first code thrown on the EGR system (P045D) which is likely that the valve is not closing or shutting without resistance on bank 2. The vehicle will test all these things on start up (0 to 100 or close to on the valves) and if it's sticky will throw the code. The valves may sit at 5% at closed and say 75% when open at idle, but the start up process has shown a sticking valve. So, options are to simply close the valves (with diag tool) and remap to isolate them and get no more restricted performance, blank them off and also remap, or clean the valves and EGR system, which at my kms is probably too far gone, so replacement the other option. Decisions decisions!
Have you got a link for the blanking kit? I can only seem to find anything for the 2.7 sport, not the TDV8. Cheers
Did you find one mate? I need one asap
I Need the full kit where did you get it from as I brought the plates done them easy enough now it’s blowing from the top so I haven’t sealed it correctly. Need the bungs ASAP and don’t know where to get them??
Got mine off eBay mate
Thanks for replying I have just ordered some from a Website I found on Google A few people seemed to have used them and all positive feedback. anyone else wanting to buy this kit I will let them know after fitting As I couldn’t find anything anywhere else for the 3.6
What difference did it make? Good or bad....thanks
Good to see you back 👍
Have you had any issues with this so far?
What are the benefits ?
Any advice on my l322 started to smoke a bit when acceleration or when going past 65 to 70 goes in to limp mode and the speed goes down to 50. Please advise me.
Check all turbo/intercooler hoses for splits
@@tomsmith6741 thank you for you reply.
@@22gukwaley41 did you get it sorted?
Hi can I ask your opinion on the Range Rover? I’m thinking of buying a 2008 tdv8 with 88k on
I absolutely loved mine. Just don’t spend everything you have when buying it, because it’s a heavy & complex vehicle… it will probably need some money/time spent on maintenance. Brilliant vehicle though 👍
Do oil changes very frequently to be safe (5k - 8k intervals) as you DON’T want turbo issues if possible.
@@Nut_Job. thank you
Did you not get any engine codes or require a "digital delete" with this kit? I've bought what looks like the same kit but the fitting instructions say i'll need to have a digital delete done as well.
Yes, indeed my instructions say that too. It won’t actually give you any engine codes or warning lights though. But it is better to also get them mapped-out so that the actual EGR valves remain closed, because if they continue to open close like mine are now they could still fail/jam open & cause a fault code (but won’t damage anything because they are actually blanked off 😀)
Hi, what is a cheap software diagnostic tool to remove the EGR and DPF from the ECU
I’m not aware of anything cheap which can do this. You would need the same software tools as an ECU remapper. You might be able to pick something up via online sellers or even EBay, but knowing how to use it correctly without bricking your ECU is the next challenge.
I’d say it’s best to pay a remap specialist to do it for you (unless you wanted to get into the remap/tuning business).
@@Nut_Job. hi mate mines got a big water leak I think it’s the thermostat housing do the inlet manifolds need removing
Kind regards
Love to hear any update on this looking to do it on my L322
How's the leather seat repair holding up on the RR ?
Cheers
Still looks really good I think 👍
I’ve done over 10k miles in it since then & that ‘all-in-one’ colour seems to hold up really well 😀
@@Nut_Job. Cheers. Glad you kept it. Will look out for any more RR vids.
I’ll be doing all the gearbox mechatronic seals soon, plus I intend to sort my erratic fuel gauge out at some point too, and maybe some other bits... 👍
Lovely Jubbly, was looking forward to seeing the BMW, never mind, still very interesting video.
There’s more to come on the Beemer... not all of it good though 😫
What about the MOT?
MOT was unaffected for this vehicle
You make it look so easy lol. I have blanking kit fancy doing mine???? 😂
Honestly, including filming it I probably did it all in about 2hrs - you can do it easily before lunchtime 👍
how is it running these days?
I actually sold it a few months ago, but the engine had been running fine the whole time 👍
Well done, made it look easy !
Can i pass the mot without dpf?
If your car has a DPF you cannot pass an MOT without it sorry
Just gona clog dpf quicker
No DPF on this car
Nut Job really? But it’s of the age to be fitted one
The Nut Job .
I have a 2011 4.4 TDV8 with 146 000 km on the clock, the car sometimes struggles to start , and also sometimes idles inconsistently . Any ideas on what the cause could be ? . There are no fault codes or any engine light that appear. And I service every 10 000 km.
Glow plugs/controller? I’m not too familiar with the newer 4.4 TDV8 unfortunately, sorry.
@@Nut_Job. I doubt it's the glow plugs/controller. It occasionally happens even if you have driven the car , and it's at operating temperature. Sometimes I think it's the EGR valves that get stuck in a open position? Or it's a feul delivery problem . I can't find anyone else with the same problem to point me in the right direction.
Have you got a diagnostic code reader? I’ve just bought a better one (as I’ve been using a very basic OBDII reader for ages...) and it’ll read everything from the individual control modules across the vehicle. If there’s an intermittent fault it’s likely to be logged & you will get a pointer to the issue.
@@Nut_Job. I don't have one 😀. The car is due for a service, and I will look into that with the service center . Thanks for the advice. I'll report here to you when I found the problem , hopefully in the near future.
Feom the least to more $$$.. could be a bad diesel filter (due to bad diesel), a bar injector, a bad turbo inlet pipes... Have you found the main reason by any chance?
have you removed your DPF also?
This model never had a DPF
@@Nut_Job. my 2008 SDV8 has a DPF according to the VIN lookup, would the DPF have caused issues with your EGR blanking?
If your vehicle has a DPF it could run into problems when you blank/disable the EGR valves. This is because the EGR’s play a part in the DPF regeneration cycle which periodically burns off the accumulated sooty particulate in there.
Is this the same process for the tdv8 sport?
If it’s the 3.6 TDV8 then I’d imagine it would be, although I can’t be certain as I’ve never worked on one. I believe it’s the same/similar engine arrangement though
@@Nut_Job. yeah it's the tdv8, I'll take the cover off and have a look
Hey mate, quick q .. when you do the blank, do you get the engine management sign on anymore? I’m wary that the egr sensor might flag it up
I thought you at least need the EGR for regeneration. Aren’t you worried you might clog up your DPF?
Naa, I do long journeys regularly in this. I can always force a regen if needed, but doubt it.
The 3.6 in the uk doesn’t have the dpf
Oh yes, well pointed out 👍
It’s been a while since I was fiddling with this car... 😂
No regen to worry about then 😁
I blanked mine 2 months ago then remapped and also removing egr
@@darrensmith2141 any problems with the mot?
Smoke under full acceleration?
Hi we the car still pass the mot? With this done.
It should do. They can’t touch/remove any engine covers & the warning light shouldn’t be lit. The EGR has almost no bearing on the emissions/smoke test either, so I think it should be fine.
Nut Job is correct, no issues with mot and no fault codes, lights or driving issues.
@@jamest5149 mpg still the same or worse?
Gas Racing slightly better than before by about 10%. Others have found the same. Also slightly smoother running.
You need reflash map
Yeah, I’ll get to it eventually 👍
@@Nut_Job. dit you manage to do the remap and blank out the egr electronically eventually?

Runs perfectly mate. You’d never know any difference - I’ve driven well over 1000 miles since doing it too 👍
No lights etc after a good run up to operating temp? Be interesting to see what changes you notice after doing this..
I did a short run today & took everything up to normal temps and everything remained fine. I’ll do further mileage on it though & report anything of concern 👍
Love your videos man,, Were did you get the blanking kit?, checked on eBay only found kits for RR discovery 3 and sports TDV6 engines? Thanks in advance
It’s off eBay - they should be on there 👍
Let us know how it drives mate
I’ve taken it out for a bit today & it drives great. No sign of anything different if I’m honest.
Did you or do you now get a puff of diesel soot when you put it full throttle?
I'm trying to work out if the EGRs are my cause and, if it's worth getting a re-map and them switched off.
I definitely would get them mapped shut. Just because the consequences of their eventual failure is painfully expensive.... but that’s just me 🤷♂️
what about the error codes?
There aren’t any mate. I was always convinced the car would throw up all sorts of errors... but no. I saw forum posts where people had blanked the EGRs off with plans to follow up by mapping them out, but no errors or warning lights came on?! 🤷♂️
Nut Job thank you, I have an LR3, which is fine but I want a range rover like yours. People say they have too many issues, what is your one sentence advice. Thanks
It’s peoples opinions like those which keep used Range Rover prices nice & low - everyone is afraid of them!
They are complex vehicles, definitely - that’s also why they’re so awesome. Try & get one that’s been looked after, not necessarily perfect but in good mechanical condition. Look for clues in the engine bay & underneath for parts which will have needed replacement over the years like intercooler hoses, drive shaft boots etc 👍
Aside from the legal/environmental/emissions related side effects, I'd think twice about doing this on a TDV8, especially a working one. EGR reduces emissions by reducing combustion temperatures, and as the turbos on these engines are marginal at best, I'd do all I could to make life easier for them. I've replaced many many turbos on these over the years, they're a nightmare job, time consuming and expensive. I know I'll get trolled by the 'take off all the emissions junk' warriors, and yes, on some engines it has a huge effect, but on these ones, no thanks....
This was the initial reason I had held off doing anything on this engine. However, I fail to see what damage is ACTUALLY likely to occur... my reasoning (which I accept, may be flawed) is this:
EGR allows recirculated exhaust gases back through the intake at lower RPM to reduce NOx formation which occurs above temps of 2000K. The turbo is not properly spooled at this RPM and when you put your foot down, the EGR will close, the turbos will spool up to max and cylinder temperatures will rise - because you’re accelerating. Yes, the engine gets hot during this phase, but your EGR would never normally be open at this point & that’s how the engine is designed. So.... what ACTUAL temperatures and damage are we talking about here? 🤔
@@Nut_Job. I don't know exact figures or temperatures, and I'm not criticizing your work, but I do know how much these turbos cost. It's your car, just saying that on mine I'd not do it...
I’m not encouraging anyone to do anything.... but since you’re asking, I’ve had absolutely no issues or any perceived difference to the performance of my car. And I’ve actually put at least 500 miles on since blanking the ports now.
I’m happy and open to be corrected or proven wrong with my logic regarding cylinder temps, so please don’t think I’m being stubborn or stroppy. I’m no expert in engine design, but I’m just following my own logic + the experience of others too 👍
It’s ok Simon, I wasn’t sure about doing this for a while but the more I thought about it I pretty much convinced myself. I’m no expert & I may be damaging my engine, but I’m reasonably confident it’ll be fine...
Seriously, thanks for the comment though 👍
How would you know, you kept egr
Love your vids but I don’t condone breaking the law and even more just for the hell of it. It’s illegal in the UK 🇬🇧 where you live to do this and more over it pumps cancerous pollution into the environment.
Each to their own Chris & I totally understand your point.
Just for clarification though, your statement is not completely accurate. The function of an EGR is to open at low RPM, recycle exhaust gas & hopefully reduce NOx emissions - yes that’s a noble objective, but it doesn’t spew anything more ‘cancerous’ than it was before into the atmosphere.
I didn’t do this because I was bored, I did it to prolong my engine’s lifespan - but you’re correct that it doesn’t change it’s ‘legality’
Adding to that, a warm engine is actually more efficient without EGR valves. Also, there are some more conflicting theories about the engine without the EGR, higher EGT's which lead to all sorts of issues (Mostly turbos)
DPF deletion is much worse for the environment than this. Ironically Exhaust Gas Recirculation makes soot production worse.
