- I've purchased a custom sheath for it. It really helps with the weight. When I was comparing it to a Kabar, I was pointing out that if you want a more soldier friendly knife that's better suited for fighting, the Kabar would be a better choice. I also would like to point out that I don’t feel the most confidants with it if I were to use it in a thrust attack. I’m sure it would work as such, but I’d feel safer with a better hand guard to prevent my hand from not sliding up and getting cut on the blade.
I don’t know what kind of black finish they put on the blade. It has a slightly rough feel to it.
This knife hasn't gotten nearly the love it deserves on RUclips. Not sure why it's a super comfortable beast of a blade
I have many fix blades and this is my favorite.
Wow man I scored mine for a little over $100 on Ebay, brand new in box and I absolutely love it!!! Man that edge is beautifully hand sharpened and with a 1micron diamond spray on my kangaroo leather strop it is even keener! Great knive but nobody has really posted any content of it in use, I am certain they would sell many many more of them if someone would show the knife nuttz how great of a knife this really is...
I agree love this work horse
Ever since you wrote your post a few hard use reviews have popped out. I was eagerly anticipating myself and I found them pretty useful.
A in use video would have been great!
When you get into a situation that matters most, then you'll understand why they designed the tang that way. The fishing tackle and fire starting equipment will give you the reason to say thank under the right conditions. In the right conditions, you will appreciate having everything you need to survive with... So A+ to them...
Ironically the tip of the wrench broke off in one of the screws. I was pretty shocked. When chopping the wrench will fly out since there’s not much tension in the handle. Lastly, when I was doing some heavy chopping one of the screws came loose and it actually bugged me. I’ve blue lock tight them down now. I think the more you take a screw out , the more likely it will come loose and you lose it.
I am sub # 21! Good video.
Nice review...
Also the handle scales are removable for storage of a small survival kit or anything small you might choose!
So the designer seems to have a youtube channel and did a video on the design. His video and Hogue's promo video both state the creator was a Marine and outdoor survivalist. The thickness in the tip he says he got from old Persian daggers used to pierce armor which is a thing, if you look at the tips of Kabars you will notice it too has this though to a much less significant extent. Old daggers used during medieval times had little to no edge and only had a point so it could puncture plate armor and force its way through various types mail armor so they needed the reinforcement. Not saying that is necessary nowadays but it gave it better mass and strength so it works out. Since he's both a marine and an outdoorsman he likely tried to take the best of both worlds and make a knife that could be very suitable in either situation.
Im aware this is an older video and you may already know this stuff but just in case I thought I'd mention it. Designers name is Allan Elishewitz, he has a RUclips channel which I only just discovered.
Really want this knife now, not enough videos putting it through its paces so thank you my dude!
Have you had this knife in any use in the woods yet? I'd really love to see a video posted of it in use, I own myself and nobody has any good videos posted showing how capable they really are!
Definitely not to much of a chopper, but hell of a beast for splitting, i loved the 7 inch one so much i found a 5.5" zombie green handle on amazon for cheap i grabbed it immediately lol also the tanto comes with a different sheath you would like
I think it chops quite well. That ¼” thickness has some good heft to it.
Well you can do what you want, but that would be the very thing I would do with it, it being a survival knife. That's the reason for the hollow spaces in the handle. If nothing else, being out in the cold, you could store items to build a fire with...
There are three problems I have with that. 1st is the torque wrench it comes with flies out when you’re chopping away, and you wouldn’t want to lose that. 2nd, the torque wrench that I have actually had the bit broken off of it inside the screw I was trying to take out. 3rd is that I feel that the more you take a screw out, the likely hood that it can come loose and come out without you knowing it. If I’m going to have survival items next to my knife, I’d rather have a side pouch attached to the sheath.
@@thescharfchannel Indeed. Well said. I just got mine (5.5" blade) and I agree in regards to the torx screw issues
Lashing it to a "spear" is not really for use as a spear so much as to give you reach if you need to harvest fruit or nuts from a tree that is out of reach.
Funny thing is the designer of that knife did design it as a combat knife. Same with the hatchet…. Being an “outdoors man” in no way qualifies you to judge if a knife is sufficient for “tactical”. The ex marine scout that created it can though.
Then what would you classify a knife to be tactical? This knife is heavy for a lot of people. I also got a custom sheath for it since this sheath was too heavy and didn’t secure it well enough. If I was carrying a rifle, ammo and other gear I’d go for a stout 4-5” low profile blade that won’t get snagged on my rifle sling or hoping in and out of vehicles all day.
a tactical and a fighting knife are not the same thing.
It's still heavy
OK. Please what the differences are
A tactical nd survival knife is different but this mixes them well
Nice knife, but not one of Elishewitz best designs.
It attempts to be a survival/camp knife and a combat knife but doesn't do either particularily well.
Out of all my knives I have, it's still my favorite.
I can see the 7" blade being too long and heavy, but the 5.5 inch blade is definitely a fighter....Elishewitz designs are always fighters that can be used for bushcraft
7" actually isnt heavy or atleast the way it fits in your hand it feels light
@@jamesanderson562 that's what she said
I think this guy completely missed the point of a knife like this, maybe he’s better off not going outside anymore without supervision....
How would you use it?
