I love how when Omori decides to stab himself, he glitches back to Sunny and hesitates to stab and even tries to stop himself from doing so but Omori overtakes him and kills him
it actually glitches again to Omori when he tries to put the knife away, and it glitches back to Sunny bracing himself, and when he does it, it cuts back to Omori again.
it never made sense to me why there are stairs here anyway. like aren't they one of his biggest fears/sources of trauma? why put them in the first room of your safe headspace lol
The real thought I am wondering is if Mari would've immediately died from falling down the stairs in their house? As I just wonder if she had a chance to live but then Sunny accidentally messed up when he could've helped her survive. It would be sad but I would've rather hoped she had a chance to survive and live on.
@@astralguardian5930 When you get the broken violin it says it has strands of black hair in the strings....so my guess is when she fell she landed on top of the violin and instant death
I think I know why this scene was unused: It breaks the rules Head Space sets up. While there are definitely some cool elements, Mari forcing Omori to confront the darker part of the world (reality) goes against what was previously established in Head Space. Anyone who promotes the idea of reality into Headspace is removed from the world (e.g. Basil) because Headspace is designed to let Omori escape from reality. Headspace Mari is supposed to be pinnacle of imagination for Omori, because he completely erases what happened to her in reality in Head Space. It wouldn’t make sense for Mari to suddenly force Omori to confront his inner demons, because she’s supposed to do the opposite of that (the only exception is when White Space Mari is introduced when they look for the missing kids.) I still think they could’ve used it and tweaked a few things to make it fit better, but I can see why they ended up removing it. Edit: y’all are mixing up Headspcae Mari and Whitespace Mari. I clarified that Whitespace Mari is allowed to break these rules because she’s technically not apart of headspace, so she’s allowed to play by her own rules. That’s why she’s able to guide Sunny towards the truth in the water bridge section. They could’ve used Whitespace Mari for this section, but there were probably other factors that went into its removal.
But the thing is that is exactly what she does when helping omori get across the sea. The whole section breaks the rules of Headspace as well, as well as Mari helping Omori confront his direct problems. Dont even forget the time she literally talked directly about the incident in that section and floated off into that big window
@@Lazulite Yes, that’s what I mentioned in my post. That wasn’t Head Space Mari- that was White Space Mari (shown by the fact that she becomes black and white, and she doesn’t remember what happened when you get to Last Resort.) The “real” Mari was leaking through into Omori’s imagination during that event; it wasn’t the regular Head Space Mari.
Mari still tells you to check out the empty house if you click on the "Empty House" quest while talking to her at the picnic. Maybe Omori doesn't want to banish her to Black Space like he did with Basil because of his remaining guilt over Mari.
@@CatiPaint yea wouldnt that mean it fits even less? Since white space mari shouldnt even be there. And its not even mari herself that whole section doesnt completely fit into omoris headspace since there are a lot of vacant buildings with questionable object, the something, and spots from his subconsciousness
After Basil's memory disappears from your friend's memory in Headspace, so does the quest Mari tells you about finding Basil, but later on if you talk with her again she'll mention the "rumored empty house" on the edge of the forest. Interesting how a little bit of it ended up in the final game.
I think it works well because I remember some dialog saying Mari and shadow Basil would always guide you to the truth. I think it was while leaving the deeper well after the Humphrey fight
@@splatoonlover5322 Honestly i can write a whole essay for this but i will make it short... Basil was banished from headspace because he knows the truth headspace was made to forget the truth and the reality... Since basil was removed from headspace everyone starts to forget about basil
@@Pocket_Shield But she leaves the picnic basket to escort Omori to the Deep Well- I don't see any narrative contradiction if she does the same just to Basil's house, of course alongside all the dream friends
@@peculiaroreo that wasnt the same mari as the mari who sits by the picnic baskets. its implied that was either the real mari appearing to Sunny as a ghost or some fragment of his memory urging him to move on from her death
It's so interesting in this scene how when it's glitching between Omori and Sunny, Sunny is the one that pulls out the knife and goes to stab himself. Omori going to put it away before it goes back to Sunny again. Even in the end it seems like Omori takes the stab himself to protect Sunny from his choice. It makes me think more on the idea that Omori really is there to protect Sunny, or at the very least keep him from being in pain by taking it on himself.
@@astronights It's hard to see, but no actually, in full screen you can see the glitching start before the knife even comes out, going between sunny and Omori. And you can tell for sure when the knife is raised for the first time, Sunny is holding it because of the blue sweater, and after the knife shakes a few times it turns back into Omori, who goes to put the knife away and even holds his arm for a few moments. Before ending as Sunny again who stabs himself. And finally ending as Omori as the screen fades out. It gets pretty dark on screen, but in full screen with a high brightness you can see the weak blue on sunny's sprite compared to the black of omori's
I agree with the idea that Omori is there to protect Sunny! It's like anxiety, where at the root it's there to protect you, but the methods it uses can be frightening, harmful, and/or considered cowardly. Omori believes that rather than own up to his mistake, it would be "safer" to end his life, but Sunny wants to break his streak of cowardice and admit what he did. Omori is a symbol of repression and, in theory, is there to comfort and protect Sunny by creating an imaginary world where everything is perfect and okay again, but this quickly spirals out of hand and Sunny begins to lose sight of the truth. He doesn't have the courage to discover it again until he's faced with the imminent threat of moving away from Faraway town.
Saying Omori is there to protect him after the ending where he literally says Sunny should just kill himself is kinda weird. But yes, he is there to do so even if it is in a really messed up way.
@@brinst_ar There's only two good reasons I could think of that would make sense for the bad ending. One, if we go with the idea that Omori is the embodiment of anxiety in a way, we could also generalize him as the embodiment of depression as well. Just like anxiety, in small amounts depression can be constructive and helpful when it comes to creative projects, soul searching, and strengthening your relationship with others through trial. Sadness is a normal, healthy emotion, but everything should be done in moderation. The other explanation could be that Omori thinks that Sunny would end up in less pain in the long run if he avoided the problem. No one would ever know he pushed Mari, so he would be remembered as a "good person" who never made that vital mistake. Also, he would never have to face the consequences of admiting his truth to his friends and could live in ignorant bliss up until his last moment. Sorry for rambling, I just like sharing my observations! :)
I think this was removed, because in headspace, omori deliberately constrained mari to the picnic blanket. This was an effort to protect her from harm in headspace, as he couldn't bear to witness her getting injured or dying again.
i think i heard someone say or i saw a theory that headspace runs in loops , and originally mari wasn’t restrained to the picnic blanket and could roam around with the rest of them , and basil could too . then they said that mari did something like basil did in the prologue , like she went too far , which made omori keep her in the same spot for the rest of the loops . maybe this could’ve actually happened in a previous loop , where mari was more free and the truth might’ve been less repressed .
I believe the BRANCH CORAL or a character similar to that said that most often, it was MARI or BASIL who exposed the truth, forcing OMORI/SUNNY to reset HEADSPACE.
@@CharlemagnePetrieIt was most likely mentioning Basil, because Basil found out the truth at the beginning of the game, when looking into the photo album, and right after that, Omori reset Headspace.
also it's kind of difficult to see here, but while omori is stabbing himself he begins to fluctuate between omori and sunny, but ends on omori afterwards the screen cuts in and you're in basil's house as sunny
Mari's _"Sometimes it's fun to get a little scared, don't you think?"_ has the same energy as DDLC Yuri going _"I love when horror writers subvert your expectations!"_
I can see why they got rid of it. Seems pretty out of character for Mari to just not care about her friends being scared or straight out missing at all, and the yes/no choices that don't actually have any effect at all felt pretty annoying.
On the Mari part, I’d disagree. She was the same person who pushed Sunny to his breaking point. Once she gets her mind set on something, she sees it through, even if it means straining her relationship with her friends. At least, that’s what I took away from her character.
@@patentpending7016 i don't really interpret her character that way, (i'm not saying your opinion is wrong! just sharing my ideas) i see her as a perfectionist, demonstrated by her long training sessions and how she was never satisified with her own performance or even flower crowns, but it was really sunny's decision to pick up the violin, so he could spend more time with her. as time went by he grew frustrated on his skills and bc it was stopping him from spending more time with his friends (that book about morning cartoons and practice at the lost library), feeling that he would let mari down. concert day arrived, the stress was too much for him and mari albeit for different reasons, and we all know what happened from there. oof sorry this got long!
@@ziodyne. that’s fair! One thing I really like about this game is the different interpretations people can have when it comes to the characters and events and story.
@@ziodyne. I’m not sure which is better but it is important to keep in mind how Sunny might feel about certain aspects of Mari. Sunny clearly cares for her and she means the world to him but anxiety is a fickle thing. Even those you love can be warped making them not necessarily bad people in your eyes but expecting ones. Mari would never abandon her friends nor does Sunny probably think she would. But I think it represents her push to try and help her quiet little brother do things and how Sunny feels about it. He feels distant from his friends not being able to hang out with them due to this hobby and he feels pushed out of his comfort zone literally going to a creepy house. True he picked up the violin on his own accord but the want the conflict between what he wants along with his perceived lack of control mixed with his want to not disappoint Mari can create confusion, turmoil, feelings of entrapment, and even frustration. As all of this builds up it creates so much stress around the problem and so much anticipation for a scenario so terrible it’s down right impossible. Once Mari starts actually getting a bit upset with Sunny all that thinking and anticipation that has been building up gets released in him lashing out. - TLDR: Sunny’s own interpretation of his situation with the violin caused a specific warped view of Mari in the context of getting him to do things/move out of his comfort zone shown by his friends disappearing and going to such an obviously bad place.
@@ziodyne. Sorry I was so jumbled in my thoughts. But essentially it’s not Mari that he dislikes, but the situation. Mari is always comforting to Sunny, always kind, and always sweet. She’s there leading Sunny down a frightening and scary path to Sunny but just something fun for her. Sunny sees his friends get lost along the path and feels like he’s loosing the forever to this path while Mari just sees it as them not here right now. They’re all somewhere else while Sunny is still being dragged down this path by Mari. It’s a difference in perspective between the two of them. The path was the violin, Sunny was just too stressed to tell his sister what he saw and firmly tell her he didn’t want to go down it. While Mari just saw it as getting to spend some time with her little brother.
It's a shame this was left out, but I can see why: you're supposed to explore Black Space as Omori, not Sunny. Protecting Sunny from Black Space is the whole reason Omori exists, so turning on Sunny and leaving him to suffer in Black Space on his own wouldn't make much sense. Feels like the scene could've been altered to work without the Omori/Sunny wig-out though. I would've preferred that to Omori's friends just disappearing with no explanation, but maybe the writer thought it was excusable since that already happens all the time with the "keyhole" events.
Though it would work as an alternate ending for the hikikomori route, because I think that the omori glitching and switching to sunny could be used for a great ending. Because that route is basically sunny desperate to get free, but omori has already taken over and there isn't anything to be done
"And you know that OMORI and I will be able to protect you" im imagining an alternate universe where, instead of confining her to the picnic basket, omori just gave mari like, the most unbeatable god stats to just trash any encounter
Headspace Mari does seem to have some idea about what's going on. Throughout the game she has to keep reminding her friends why they're even on a quest to begin with, to save Basil, but plays coy about it. And before entering Black Space you can ask for a hint about a quest called "Empty House" saying something like "There's an old empty house south of the forest... I wonder what's in there." with her smug expression.
Also, it seems like Omori doesn't have complete control over the thoughts and emotions of his Headspace friends. Otherwise, Basil wouldn't have thought anything was strange about the violin picture, and the whole quest to find him would never have even begun. My interpretation as to this is that Headspace is limited to Sunny's imagination, and Sunny is so traumatized by what happened that he can't imagine a version of Basil that isn't also bothered by it. Likewise, he thinks Mari is so perfect and good that he can't even "imagine" a version of Mari that doesn't want Sunny/Omori to be happy, so she will always nudge him in the right direction. In a way, the sentiment behind this scene is beautiful: as much as Sunny fears his emotions, he loves Mari more, is what this interpretation is saying.
People in Deeper well say something about Omori can never really control Mari and Basil because both of them knows what really happens irl. Omori has been stopping Mari and Basil, and needed to reset head space because of them many times.
it's a very good symbolism for repressed memories, that try to resurface with only leaving small hints that only create more questions... that's how memories of that sort work so headspace is all about sunny's desire to ignore reality and keep being happy with his friends, but there is his mind still wanting him to remember everything. 'something' also works as that constant reminder
@@geopap3722 maybe like a Coma where you decide to do something that makes you stuck in your head space and the only way out is to literally break through the dream with Mari as your guide but the more you peel back the dream the more decayed and monstrous Mari starts to look and also starts to appear less often only to show where you should be going if you are brave enough to go there. The opposite choice being, you stay in the dream, you fight all the bosses that would have been used to break the dream and you are regaled as a hero and loved by all your friends forever stuck in your head, in a coma, until you die or accept reality.
@@driftingwolf0 thats possible yeah although im not so sure about the hero part, because during the true ending sunnys friends mention he isnt the one to take the lead, so matbe he isnt into being the hero of the story. and tbh i myself dont exactly know if i exactly wish this cutscene was in game in the first place, because the whole sunny-omori swap just seems out of place, as well as the stabbing to go inside black space. i think that something like this is not really required, and that the sequence after the fall where omori goes through all the phobias from last to first until he faces the true one, that being maris death, is probably the best way for him to enter the black space and is just enough for the game to deliver the message. and overall, im pretty sure that if other scenes like this are found, the final games scenes will most likely be better, because they do the job just right in order to set up sunnys inner world without getting too complex because after all, its someones psychology, so giving it too many behviours as a "reality" (which btw it already has a lot) is kinda over the top
I feel like they erased this whole scene, especially the last bit because it portrays Sunny being too eager to get rid of Omori and Omori too passive in his own erasure. I also think they wanted more reasoning behind Sunny facing Omori(remembering/telling the truth) on top on the need for Sunny to be the rightful owner of his mind.
you cant call it Omori and Omori, because Sunny can get afraid by his own fears or other spooky creatures Basil creates, however Omori cannot get the Afraid status when he encounters Basil's monsters himself.
So...I guess this would take place after completing hangman? Pretty eerie compared to the final version, considering that Basils completely forgotten about in this version
If you run too much when she's in your party at true route first she'll kindly say "Omori, can you please slow down? You know I can't handle it" If you continue running she'll get angry and say "Omori! Didn't tou hear me? Don't make me raise my voice now!" after that, running is enabled.
@@strongboi6866 True, but also remember this Mari isn't the real Mari. She's just a manifestation of Sunny's own subconscious. By this point, Omori/Sunny is losing his own grip on Headspace and they've become almost entirely separate characters: Sunny who's attempting to face the truth with his sister's encouragement and Omori who's attempting to keep it suppressed and continue their four year dream. The scene could use some tweaks, but overall, the idea is solid.
Y'know this could've been included in the Hikiomori route, just swap from ending with Sunny being stabbed instead of Omori, it could also be another way into black space 2
i like this, but i can see why it was left out. idk, something about it feels off, and it kind of feels like you're completely facing the truth and yknow, acknowledging the real world in headspace (i know basil did, but he's not like. the protagonist) much much much too soon.
I see why this is left out. It's too long and doesn't really fit the endgame atmosphere you have when you unlocked Black Space. Using Shadow Basil instead was better.
@@mattiasaietti9288 she’s already a bit creepy due to the fact she was having a fucking picnic in a dungeon to let us out. Or that she’s everywhere with a picnic ready. I think it also adds onto the emotional part of the player realizing that having picnics with Mari were one of his favorite things to do and be surrounded by his friends and his big sister and how it would pull him out of a bad mood whenever they had picnics together
What happens if you go outside the house to meet up with Mari instead of stabbing yourself? Also, does the static stay with you throughout all environments, or are you locked from leaving Basil's property at that point?
in the blackspace intro dialogue file the commented out lines say that the player is supposed to be both unable to jump in and unable to leave the house once mari leaves, but neither of these things actually happen also the static follows you everywhere except into black space itself the comments in the dialogue end after stabbing yourself and waking up as sunny in basil's house, so i don't know if they got past this point before rewriting it
oh, also in the comments of the dialogue file are commented out dialogue lines from yet earlier versions of the scene where everybody makes it into the house, and you're forced to stab yourself in front of your friends you would then wake up as sunny while all your friends remained frozen unfortunately all that remains of that version is what is described in the dialogue file
It flashes between Omori and Sunny, and Omori tries to put the knife away, because Sunny is trying to wake up, using the stab option as a means to, and this time Omori is trying to stop him from doing that, to no avail. It’s really interesting what could’ve happened had this ending been put into the game
In the deepest part of Headspace, after getting out of Humphrey, there's a voice that speaks about the truth, it says that the Flower Boy (being Basil) will always find it first but, the interesting part, and why I personally believe that keeping this scene in would've been a good idea, is that it says: "and your dear sister MARI... she will always guide you to it" Which is literally what she's doing here! Guiding you to that truth, to Black Space I do believe some aspects could've been changed about the scene but this could've still worked very well
Seeing the headspace Kel, Aubrey, and Mari reactions after they start disappearing is so interesting, especially because Mari is trying to make it seem logical so they can move forward
This scene could definitely be polished a bit more, but I do really like the idea of there being a longer buildup to Black Space. It also makes "your sister Mari will guide you to it" much more literal, and explains why that one path through the trees is so long. I also like that this scene makes the dream version of Mari seem really suspicious, much like some other dialogue in the game did, but that doesn't really lead anywhere. There's the demonic version of her in Black Space, but I don't personally think that amounted to very much. I think it would've been better if she actually ended up _doing_ something in the dream world. That would go against what Sunny wanted, but they do imply that he isn't fully in control of Headspace.
Sunny is indeed not in much control of Headspace, Omori is. Omori is the part of Sunny that wants to avoid pain and confrontation, to run and hide, even if it physically and psychologically affects our boy's health.
Yeah thought the same as to why you are able to get the other ending in the true route. Since it seems like only 1-2% of people actually did the Hikimori route.
returning to Basil’s house after collecting all keys is technically same, but they implied it well, they said return to the core of the vast forest. They also put red footsteps towards white space in the end of hikkikomori route so idk, I don’t think it would be too bad
the scene where sunny and omori switch and glitch to stab themselves is quite interesting. it looks like sunny wants to go back to reality (and the only way of waking up is by stabbing omori) but omori doesn't want sunny to wake up yet. he wants omori to stay in headspace even if just a little bit longer. however, when omori realizes that he can't make sunny stay, he accepts sunny's request of waking up and takes the knife by himself. it really shows how omori can be so protective yet selfish when it comes to sunny. pretty cool!
I don't understand why they removed this, it made more sense as to why the group disappears when you enter the hole. Apart from the static, the change of colors to black and white along with those images gave him more terror to the situation since Omori is alone now (I love how Omori changed Sunny when he was about to stab himself, Sunny was doubtful). Hopefully they put it in a new version, if there ever is. EDIT: Ok, i saw some comments and answers that clarified everything for me, but i would like to see like a farewell or something with OMORI's friends, but, well, they are a dream after all. Now i realise that every moment that OMORI's finds himself in dangerous places/situations (related to SOMETHING), they are never there for him :(
They disappear whenever you enter a hole amyway, this contridicts the rules of headspace and I wish the Sunny/Omori stab thing made it into the game somehow
@@handles_are_idiotic The initial jumpscare at Basil's house forces you out of the dream world aswell, so it really doesn't explain the situation, kinda sad this didn't make it to the final game :/
@@TomRido the difference is that if you're doing a true run going into black space locks you out FOR GOOD while the Basil jumpscare from the first day is not only for that night but also to start the plot of the game and for you to start conquering fears. You can't even compare the two. If you have any experience with the game as soon as you enter black space on a true rout you are not coming back to the dream world, we all know this
@@handles_are_idiotic You're actually right on that one, for a brief moment I forgot that there was no coming back from the black space. That one's on me, my fault ^^
The effects after the STAB happened are so interesting because they really realistically depict the feeling of trying desperately to hold onto a dream or daydream and not wake up
6:50 around here i tried to check how much of the video was left, but my computer started glitching out and wouldn't let me exit full screen or even see the progress bar, and im not gonna lie to you, i freaked out a bit -
The fight over the "suicide" between Sunny and Omori is about wanting to confront the truth. Omori doesn't want to, and so he tries to escape having to deal with it by "waking up".
@@thewolfshipper if you know how to decrypt the files ( there’s a mod on the omori discord that can do this) and you know how to work RPG maker MV, it’s not too hard, but you need that knowledge first. There are already a ton of mods for the game already
WAIT WHAT THIS IS SO COOL?? Where does this fit in the storyline I wonder... Perhaps that was the problem? Since in the final cut, we jump into the hole aka Black space after Humphrey and Last resort. I guess the tonal change would also be staggering, since after we get the keys and complete hangman, we're going to be expecting something dark to immediately happen. We exit the through the little window in Deep well to Neighbor's room, and then if the game forces us to play card games only to have Mari come in and show them all to this house, the events at that moment could seem very convoluted. And then there's the stabbing option?? With the option to also jump in Black space. Black space is his dark thoughts and repressed memories, choosing to jump means to encompass himself in that dark mindscape as he leaves behind his escapism world. Stabbing himself on the other hand, is to wake back up in the real world. But the problem is, how are we supposed to know that? And also why? There are no visual cues that point the player to do that, and we've been building up to the Hangman mystery. Okay before I move on to my next point, I wanna talk about what I interpret from the stabbing scene : We choose stab, Omori stands still, (Glitch), He hunches over, he reaches for the knife and we see Sunny take his place, He switches to Omori who looks begrudged, He switches to Sunny who brings the knife closer to his chest, his ears ring as he shakily holds the knife in his hands, He switches to Omori who closes his eyes in concentration and brings the knife down to his side, Sunny takes over and holds the knife firmly in front of his stomach, We switch to Omori, and then a couple of split seconds to Sunny, before Omori deals the final strike. So, Sunny wants to wake back up in the real world, but it looks like Omori is preventing him from doing so. After successfully stabbing himself though, it's Sunny we see now. He's still in his dream, the world around him turning to static and getting impossible to navigate through. I suppose it fits, since the hole is the point of no return in the main game. But I'm not sure how to interpret this scene if I'm being honest. Either a) Sunny wants to escape going into/dragged back Black Space (His dark mindscape, since after Mari's death, I headcanon that he went into a depressive episode and Black space was his Headspace at a point in time) by waking up; or b) Omori wants Sunny to acknowledge the truth of that day and to stop running away. Or I could be a complete idiot who misinterpreted the whole thing lmao-- Yeah, I can feel how it would cause some confusion as to what is happening and why. There is a lot of cool stuff here though, it's a shame they couldn't make it fit in the final cut. I like the sitting scene with Mari, it really characterizes her more and we see her caring nature as Sunny almost leans in too close to the hole. But her characterization for the scenes before and after are a little inconsistent imo. She was originally really insistent on checking out the haunted house (Not Basil's house? hmhm), even after her friends vanished mysteriously she still insists, but then she goes to be really wary after Sunny almost fell. Ah Idk man, you could make the argument that Mari cares more about her brother, but I find her actions kinda weird
well everybody did forget about basil existing by that point in the story, and the "basil" quest at the top of the list gets replaced with an "empty house" quest at the bottom you could argue that this is another example of mari "guiding omori to the truth"
I think this Mari Sequence really fits into the idea that Mari is always trying to reveal the truth to Sunny within Headspace. Even though Omori keeps saying he doesn't want to keep going (towards the truth) Mari urges you to keep moving forward.
I kind of like that Basil's house is normal instead of being haunted in the final game. :p Although... doesn't Basil eventually get forgotten at the very end of the normal route...? Maybe this is something that can pop up at the end of the game as everyone forgets him, yet still remembers his house... That would be a really sad and messed up thing to do. ._. I feel like it could maybe work though other than having Basil's place be haunted in general, and maybe never even getting to hear the name of flowers and stuff... Since like... I feel like Omori overall, the darker parts, are more tragic than scary. :p Changing certain elements to be scarier arguably wouldn't fit, except maybe with stuff like the hikikomori route...
TBH, considering you activate this by playing cards, something that is seen as completely optional, is suddenly something mandatory, with no hint of having to do that before at all, might have been the reason why this was cut.
It's interesting how mari in this sequence is seemingly knowlingly leading the characters along to an unsafe situation, while encouraging them to keep going when they want to go back to safety
Maybe that's a reason it was scrapped, I'm not sure it would make that much sense for Omori/Sunny to portray Mari this way even if real world Mari was implied to be occasionally demanding/bossy with how violin practice went
Im pretty sure i managed to glitch the game to get this quest to activate. Let me explain (Btw i am on the switch version) So i played normally throught the whole prologue, with the exeption of naming sunny /com[9]. By naming him /com[9] the game will enable the TAG function whenever his name is said (it can be a bit funky so it takes a few trys to get the TAG to activate, i just tryed to run into kels yard a few time and by doing that he said my name and activated TAG). One thing to note is that you can only tag through the menu, and tag will still up as ??? But it will still be fully functonal. Just open the door for kel and tag him. The game will put aubrey and hero in your party by tagging kel. I like to stay as kel because it makes my sprite stay as kel during most cutscenes (this works for hero amd aubrey too). I go to hobbyz, get the gift for hero, and leave. Frome here you can do whatever. I does not matter if you beat all the hooligian or not, just as long as you dont go to church because that will turn the day to evening. What you need to do is go to aubreys house with a full party and it will activate the cutscene where you break in and comfort her. From there go to basils house so that polly will say he is visiting his grandma. Then you go back to sunnys house. You can do the treehouse cutscene imedently but that will softlock you, making you unable to interact with the front door nor your bed. Instead try to leave. Kel will now be at the front door again. Do not open the door for him and go to sleep. After your nap start the sweeping minigame and instead of sweeping, go to your back yard. Go through the treehoyse cutscenes, then go back inside and take a bath. Get over your fear of drowning and go to headspace. The game now is in state of being on 3 days left and 2 days left, as well as being a mix of the hikikomori route and the true route. Go see the invisable mari back at the park, get the show tickets, then let mari guide you to the last resort. You will still have all your party members so feel free to skip last resort, although you will eventually have to beat it to get rid of the fog. Trying to fast travel with pluto will trigger a text box where mari says this isnt the way to the empty house, and she asks if you wanted to do something else. I would suggest not fast traveling just to be safe, because i do not know if this will deactivate the quest. I went and did humphrey, and mari joined us on the boat, walking behind us like jesus. I beat humphrey, and mari stared following us. She is now in the party and you can fast travel without loosing her. I beat last resort to clear the fog and then went and beat sweathearts castle. Sadly this is where the fun ends, because due to the game thinking 2 days left is active the entrance to the lost library is patched up and you cannot get the L key. You can walk around with mari and go do whatever, but you cannot progress the plot and go to black space. I think mari following us and her comment on pluto not being the way to the empty house means i somehow triggered the flag to activate at least some part of this unused quest. Feel free to try it for yourselves and tell me if you find any other cool things or even a way to get the L key. Sorry if this was confusing, im not the best at writing lol.
oooo so you can see this message without modding! i don't know if i've mentioned it in a reply to another comment, but if you try to use pluto's spaceway while mari is with you, she still gives you the dialogue saying it's not the way to the empty house, even in the final game, because it only checks for the flag that mari is in the party - they just left the dialogue in since you aren't supposed to be able to leave the beach with her anyway. i don't remember for sure since it's been over a year now, but i'm fairly certain i was only clued into this sequence even existing because i had modded mari into the party, and she gave me that dialogue when i tried to travel with her
if you don't mind me asking... how did you know to name him that? that's the control code for triggering a common event via dialogue, which i didn't know rpgmaker even had... was this a recent discovery in the omori discord? (if you couldn't guess i haven't checked up on it very often)

By the time i made it to sweetheart the stage was patcjed up in the cutscene before and after the boss, and for the rest of forever. You have to beat jawsum eventually to clear the fog to get to pyrefly forest. You could do picnic glitch to unlock pluto and fly there, but im on the most recent switch version so picnic is already patched.

I can see why they took it out to prevent inconsistency, but it adds a lot to the creepiness and slight sadness of the loss of your party members. Because, when you go to Black Space, the rest of Headspace is gone - everyone you met on those adventures. And this gives it more of a send off.

I think I know why this scene was unused:
It breaks the rules Head Space sets up. It wouldn’t make sense for Mari to suddenly force Omori to confront his inner demons, because she’s supposed to do the opposite of that (the only exception is when White Space Mari is introduced when they look for the missing kids.)
I still think they could’ve used it and tweaked a few things to make it fit better, but I can see why they ended up removing it.
@@Lazulite But this Mari its not the head space Mari; its the "True" (ghost) Mari-
@@Lazulite Yes, that’s what I mentioned in my post.
It would be nuts if Omori pushed Mari in
I honestly thought that was going to be a choice lol
Sounds like the total opposite of what Omori would do. He’s made out of love for Mari and hatred for Sunny.
Old habits die hard?
I wish Mari pushed Omori in, honestly.
As a sign of "Sunny, stop trying to escape reality" type of sense, to help "get rid" of Omori.

After Basil's memory disappears from your friend's memory in Headspace, so does the quest Mari tells you about finding Basil, but later on if you talk with her again she'll mention the "rumored empty house" on the edge of the forest. Interesting how a little bit of it ended up in the final game.

I think you got it mixed up, it's Omori who pulls out the knife and Sunny who hesitates from stabbing himself
This prob ain’t headspace mari, it’s most likely whitespace mari appearing as headspace mari
@@UndertaleTestPlaceReborn that could be as well!
i think i heard someone say or i saw a theory that headspace runs in loops , and originally mari wasn’t restrained to the picnic blanket and could roam around with the rest of them , and basil could too . then they said that mari did something like basil did in the prologue , like she went too far , which made omori keep her in the same spot for the rest of the loops .
maybe this could’ve actually happened in a previous loop , where mari was more free and the truth might’ve been less repressed .

-
TLDR: Sunny’s own interpretation of his situation with the violin caused a specific warped view of Mari in the context of getting him to do things/move out of his comfort zone shown by his friends disappearing and going to such an obviously bad place.

And Mari has a bad knee.
"And you know that OMORI and I will be able to protect you"
im imagining an alternate universe where, instead of confining her to the picnic basket, omori just gave mari like, the most unbeatable god stats to just trash any encounter
Omori has been stopping Mari and Basil, and needed to reset head space because of them many times.
it's a very good symbolism for repressed memories, that try to resurface with only leaving small hints that only create more questions... that's how memories of that sort work
so headspace is all about sunny's desire to ignore reality and keep being happy with his friends, but there is his mind still wanting him to remember everything. 'something' also works as that constant reminder
this could have been a route to a completely different ending
i feel like this place is actually full of opportunities for choices that lead to different endings, not just a different ending
@@driftingwolf0 thats possible yeah
although im not so sure about the hero part, because during the true ending sunnys friends mention he isnt the one to take the lead, so matbe he isnt into being the hero of the story.
and tbh i myself dont exactly know if i exactly wish this cutscene was in game in the first place, because the whole sunny-omori swap just seems out of place, as well as the stabbing to go inside black space.
i think that something like this is not really required, and that the sequence after the fall where omori goes through all the phobias from last to first until he faces the true one, that being maris death, is probably the best way for him to enter the black space and is just enough for the game to deliver the message.
and overall, im pretty sure that if other scenes like this are found, the final games scenes will most likely be better, because they do the job just right in order to set up sunnys inner world without getting too complex
because after all, its someones psychology, so giving it too many behviours as a "reality" (which btw it already has a lot) is kinda over the top

What happens if you go outside the house to meet up with Mari instead of stabbing yourself? Also, does the static stay with you throughout all environments, or are you locked from leaving Basil's property at that point?
in the blackspace intro dialogue file the commented out lines say that the player is supposed to be both unable to jump in and unable to leave the house once mari leaves, but neither of these things actually happen
also the static follows you everywhere except into black space itself
the comments in the dialogue end after stabbing yourself and waking up as sunny in basil's house, so i don't know if they got past this point before rewriting it

It’s really interesting what could’ve happened had this ending been put into the game
In the deepest part of Headspace, after getting out of Humphrey, there's a voice that speaks about the truth, it says that the Flower Boy (being Basil) will always find it first but, the interesting part, and why I personally believe that keeping this scene in would've been a good idea, is that it says:
"and your dear sister MARI... she will always guide you to it"
Which is literally what she's doing here! Guiding you to that truth, to Black Space
I do believe some aspects could've been changed about the scene but this could've still worked very well
Seeing the headspace Kel, Aubrey, and Mari reactions after they start disappearing is so interesting, especially because Mari is trying to make it seem logical so they can move forward
It's very creepy, but I can see why it wasn't included. Having to use one of the hang out spots to initiate a cutscene seems very easy to miss.

the scene where sunny and omori switch and glitch to stab themselves is quite interesting. it looks like sunny wants to go back to reality (and the only way of waking up is by stabbing omori) but omori doesn't want sunny to wake up yet. he wants omori to stay in headspace even if just a little bit longer. however, when omori realizes that he can't make sunny stay, he accepts sunny's request of waking up and takes the knife by himself. it really shows how omori can be so protective yet selfish when it comes to sunny. pretty cool!
It's kinda funny seeing Mari powerwalk among the party whilst everyone is in full sprint.
Friends disappeared
Mari: Oh no... so anyways...
Seeing Mari in the neighbors room really just feels strange
Woah. I think i still havent gotten over manly's game play, i was expecting him to read out the first line and got so confused when nothing came out 😂
i actually thought one of them were gonna push the other one off
I don't understand why they removed this, it made more sense as to why the group disappears when you enter the hole.
Id like for this moment to be a combination of this unused version and the one that appears in game
basil really said "If yall bitches are fine with me disappearing then let's see how you feel about it."
Honestly I love that Mari is into spooky stuff very fitting ;)
Mari not having a run animation makes her look like she's a champ at power walking.
very interresting
0:06 I AM BETTING MY MONEY ON KEL ALL OF IT

You have 100 dollars each (for the game) you can earn money by betting.

I noticed that when the party is running, mari just speeds up walking, because its stated that she cant run due to her baseball injuries
Weird...
This would have fitted in with the game normally.
What could the reason for it to be unused...?
the fact it forces you out of the dream world maybe
Yo have you seen the hidden pages
Sounds like this would in some ending where you forsake basil. That sound about right?
forsake basil? you mean the hikkomori route?
It's just very unusual to see Mari not at the picnic blanket.
The effects after the STAB happened are so interesting because they really realistically depict the feeling of trying desperately to hold onto a dream or daydream and not wake up
A haunted house down south, Mari? But that’s where Basil’s house iiiiiaaaaaaaauuuuuoohhh nooo…
"i was there :)" -Omori no brim
i dont know why but my mind just remembers playing this even if its unused
6:50 around here i tried to check how much of the video was left, but my computer started glitching out and wouldn't let me exit full screen or even see the progress bar, and im not gonna lie to you, i freaked out a bit -
spoopy
Hey you know why mari came down the stairs is because...
Hero:ayo the pizza here!
i think this scene shows MARIs pushiness, but its cool that when OMORI stabbed himself he switches between him and SUNNY
Aw, I feel like they could've found a way to incorporate this in.
The fight over the "suicide" between Sunny and Omori is about wanting to confront the truth.
Omori doesn't want to, and so he tries to escape having to deal with it by "waking up".
Everyone : *running animation*
Mari : *power walking*
honestly feel like this was removed cuz players would be confused at what to do here since mari prevents you from jumping down
kind of a shame really
Can't believe this went unused.
"Do you want to keep going through the fog?"
*Answers 'No'*
Mari: Since when were you the one in control?
i love MARI's smug face
That's wild, why did this go unused? How did you get this footage 😂? Anyway, I'm glad you did.
It’s still in the game files IIRC , you can just edit it back in with RPGMAKER
That's wild
@@Lonewulf321 Woah, wait, how do you do that??
@@michaelsaid8883 I would check out the datamined stuff if you can. There’s a lot that got cut out that’s really neat
But I'm not sure how to interpret this scene if I'm being honest. Either a) Sunny wants to escape going into/dragged back Black Space (His dark mindscape, since after Mari's death, I headcanon that he went into a depressive episode and Black space was his Headspace at a point in time) by waking up;
or b) Omori wants Sunny to acknowledge the truth of that day and to stop running away.
Or I could be a complete idiot who misinterpreted the whole thing lmao--
Yeah, I can feel how it would cause some confusion as to what is happening and why.
Ah Idk man, you could make the argument that Mari cares more about her brother, but I find her actions kinda weird
well everybody did forget about basil existing by that point in the story, and the "basil" quest at the top of the list gets replaced with an "empty house" quest at the bottom
you could argue that this is another example of mari "guiding omori to the truth"
im not reading this entire comment
@@napkin8920 i know the actuall reason mari came down the stairs.....
Hero:Ayo the pizza here!
I see why this wouldn't be in the final game, but I do wish we had more moments like this with just Mari
I liked the Something eye in the set of drawers up the top when they were playing cards when she showed up.
when I saw the thumbnail I thought it said 6 seconds
TBH, considering you activate this by playing cards, something that is seen as completely optional, is suddenly something mandatory, with no hint of having to do that before at all, might have been the reason why this was cut.
hate how sad kel looks when hero disappears
This is so cool
well this is a crude way to remember basil
what a fantastic thing to watch at 3:30 am right before going back to bed
HERO JUST DISINTEGRATED 💀💦
Feels like this would fit Day three, after they dont remember basil att all, the abandoned house of basil
This would've been awesome in the game with a few tweaks. Like, it's dark as heck. That's awesome.
This scene is sad, Mari says its an old abandoned house, but in reality they all forgotten Basil.
THAT WAS SO COOL! THANK YOU!
do you know what make me more scared of this video? the auto-sub.
Mari is being pushy here… The other part of her…
This certainly doesn't work when they already had MARI reprimand us for sprinting at the North Lake.
@@TheBreakingBenny how so
@@NiennaFan1 She already said goodbye at the North Lake when her spirit leaves us, if we're playing the Sunny Route.
@@TheBreakingBenny yeah
This really fits the game normally, i wonder why they decided not to use it?
Hmmm I think this could have been a route to a different ending but idk maybe this was made ealier on when they didn’t know the ending
Im pretty sure i managed to glitch the game to get this quest to activate. Let me explain
(Btw i am on the switch version)
So i played normally throught the whole prologue, with the exeption of naming sunny /com[9].
@@napkin8920 ruclips.net/video/g8LMSyK7RrY/видео.html i saw this video. I can only do single didgets due to the character limit, so i was very lucky that tag anywhere was in the single digits. All the other ones that you can do without modding are purley visual. Save anywhere is also one you can do but i devided that one probably wouldnt really break anything other than putting you in a loop or opening the save menu forever. I really wanted to do stab anywhere but sadly it didnt fit the character limit for sunnys name. I still have more experimenting to do as i have only tested this stuff with 3 days left real world and the glitched headspace, but have yet to go through headspace 3 days left and thd rest of the game with this. It took me wround an extra 5 to 6 hours of gameplay to grind (i was level 8 when i started glitched headspace. I grinded snot bubbles since they would die automatically and give me a lot of exp because i was so underleveled, then i just grinded squzzards until i was a high enough level to beat humphrey. I had to sell like all my stuff to get the money for the tolls due to the fact i dudnt feel like getting beat up by snailey. I did use hero to lower the prices), beat last resort, then absolutly destroyed sweetheart due to the fact i was very underleveled. I had already done the cutscene where it tells you to get all the keys and then it teleports you to neighbors room, so that might have affected something.
I have some screenshots of some of the weird stuff that happened as well
I found this video by googling "mari empty house" because i was trying to figure out what cutscene i found. This was the only video i could find that somewhat matched up. I dont used discord very often so i decided to comment my findings here because i dont know where else to put this info
I guess this sequence took the whole "MARI will guide you" bit very literally.
I think I know why this scene was unused: Mari should not leave the picnic area AND shouldnt go down the stairs.
This would fit perfectly to be like a playable teaser
Hero: ✌️ 🍃
would've been way more unsettling if mari had said "lead the way, sunny"
i love how you can just see them dissapear
I can see why they took it out to prevent inconsistency, but it adds a lot to the creepiness and slight sadness of the loss of your party members. Because, when you go to Black Space, the rest of Headspace is gone - everyone you met on those adventures. And this gives it more of a send off.
