And if the frank sovereign had found that he left the lands he or his predecessor had left to rule, he would have all the rights to take all away from Rollo and then kick his ass out of Normandy and Frankia or having him executed.

Well, you have to hand it to Rollo, he certainly learned how to present a case. First dangle a fruit before Bjorn by giving him useful information, then present his demands which Bjorn is in no position to refuse.
He should've brought a guard or simply use his own ship though...

The call of Thor was too great for Rollo, yes he converted to Christianity but the Viking side was demanding to be let out. To raid, pillage, plunder and more. Bjorn was a godsend from Odin or God himself. Giving Rollo an outlet to let his Viking side come out and play for a little while

@@pgabe23 "Play for a little while..." and in the meantime, his lands got conquered because he wasn't there to protect them (like Ragnar wasn't there when Jarl Borg attacked Kattegat in s2) and his family (his wife and his children, ie his heirs) taken prisoners or slaughtered, otherwise the Franks could doubt his loyalties towards them and their God (as they believed him converted and i don't think they would tolerate a heathen as a member of their nobility and moreover elite) and therefore the Emperor might rightfully and legittimately strip him of his titles and lands. See how many things could have happened while he was away for "playing". I really can't understand this cheering of Rollo abandoning his responsabilities, seriously.

Just like retired athletes, wrestlers, boxers, musicians the cushy office job has great benefits but you miss being in the game.
For the Love of the game once in awhile you just got to set up a scrimmage. A one-night-only concert/jam session or exhibition match.
Rollo wanted to get off the bench and back in the game. On top of that he's solidified himself a place on the starting lineup in return for providing use of the field/arena.
Rollo had the better of Bjorn, but "as long as I get to go too" you can see it in Bjorn's eyes he gets that Rollo wanted that one last chance at being a Viking.

Byzantines had lost one war with northern neibours, when Contantinople was besieged and enemy armies came by the Black sea from north. See
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Constantinople_(860)
Real Bjorn had raided spanish and maroccan coasts one year earlier, in 859 AD by the way.
At the other hand - byzantines had almost ultimate naval weapon of that time, greek fire, which was very useful in winning the Rus in 941, when they burned rus fleet to ashes in open sea.

I just can't imagine what it would have been like if Ragnar had gone with Bjorn, it's weird to know he was still alive at that point and starting to be at the end of his rope while his brother is more powerful than ever, sitting in a castle, polar opposite in the end of when the roles were inverted and Roll was always a second to Ragnar... I know Ragnar was on his own journey at that point but I can't help but wander what a conversation between the two after eight or nine years removed from their quarrels could have been like....Maybe Ragnar could have forgotten him after all, he got closure with everyone except his brother.....

In one instance the Vikings were humiliated so badly that the ordinary civilian Muslims of Spain were spitting on and throwing thrash at the Vikings who were running back to their ships after they were defeated by the Muslim army. Vikings were only powerful in norther Europe. They were no match for the powerful Islamic empires.

Every single Islamic empire was completely humiliated in Europe. They were utterly destroyed. The only lands they could hold through conquest (and not conversion) were the middle east where they were mostly met by weak Roman armies and civilians which they butchered. Few Islamic armies had long lasting success in Europe. The Turks made good strides into Europe (until they were completely destroyed) because the main portion of their army (Janissaries) were Christian boys taken from their parents in the Balkans and Anatolia. The Crusaders would have completely crushed them if it were not for infighting.

When he was a very important political man in a land where leaving periodically for raid isn't contemplated and therefore he left his duchy and family in danger of being conquered like Ragnar did in s2 with England and Jarl Borg. And by doing so, he risked not only his reputation at the Franks court, but his family's ad well. All of this for a last raid.
Man, s4b and on truly screwed Rollo up.

@@jonpowell4246 and by doing so, he risked to cause a war between hyberia and Frankia, since the emir, seeing Rollo, could have written to frankia emperor: "why there was a frank duke, a vassal of yours, amongst those people who attacked us and raided our kingdom? Am i supposed to think that it was you who sent him? If that's so, i shall declare war to you and begin again the "conquest" your predecessor Charles the Martel had stopped in 732."
And that's what the Saxon king would have done if Rollo had come with them to avenge Ragnar.
Now Rollo, as a norman duke, is under of and represent the authority of the frank emperor: whatever action he may lead, he does in the Emperor's name. Therefore, by doing this last raid, he mined the Emperor's power and status, since if a vassal does as he liked without his consent (and I don't believe he would have consented to such an horrible act as pillaging and raping), then you are a weak monarch.

@@Orcawhale1Sincerely, i highly doubt that the Emperor would _love him with all his heart_ after he came to know that his son-in-law and vassal had willingly left the lands HE gave him to rule and look after and his daughter and his grandchildren (the first one being his probably future heir, above all, as in the series Charles had no male heir to succed him to the throne) unprotected in order to join a band of Vikings and going to raid with them a city of a realm with which the Franks had a heavy history of war, and if the Moors knew that he was his vassal, they could legittimately declare war to him, and thus give him another big problem, as the emperor has been (probably still is) fighting his half-brothers in order to keep them away from his reign. Not to mention that Rollo could have been taken prisoner (and who would have to pay his ransom? Gisla and Charles) or worse killed, therefore leaving Normandy with a child heir and Gisla as his regent, therefore easely to get overthrown and killed. So, imho, this "reunion" with his ex-buddies could have costed Rollo much than we thought. And it would've been very satisfying to me seeing the Emperor slaim the Iron hand of Frankia on the head of this norse of son-in-law, make him swallow the golden laurel he crowned him Caesar with and then legittimately kick his ass out of Normandy. But i know it would have been so much inaccurate form a historical point of view.
