My dad's friend had a truck like that and I loved it. Been saving and looking for one ever since
your comment while jacking the rig, not a lot of flex to worry about while lifting. I use a ratchet strap and sling the axle to the frame before lifting on the frame, this is also handy when stuck so you are not having to lift 18" of droop before the wheel lifts. sheers and love watching all your various content.
I didn't know you finally started your own channel !!! I'm here now !!
International used the same wheels pattern until 1968, they were split rims however. Stockton wheels does make custom modern 6x7.25 wheels as well.
It took me 6 months to get a set of wheels out of Stockton Wheels. I couldn't tell you how many times I called how many times I was lied to. I was young I was in my early twenties they kept telling me they couldn't get material blah blah blah. I got a different excuse from a different person. Finally I wised up I started documenting each call each lie that was given to me the name of the person the date. As soon as I told them I was about to file fraud charges against them my wheels showed up within 2 weeks. That's what happens when you're required to pay people up front for a set of wheels before they even start building them. I'm not going to say they weren't nice when they showed up to my house all powder coated and shiny but that was a lot of headache just to get a set of solid steel offset wheels for a old Toyota
My 1964 Dodge W300 military truck had those axles and wheels. I swapped them for GM 1 tons. I also swapped in a 4bt Cummins GM Nv4500 and NP202 Tcase.
I put re-centered Humvee wheels on mine. Work great and I get to keep the cool old axles. And used govt tires are relatively cheap.
It's really important to semi inflate the tube and then place the tire flap in. Other wise you will pinch the tube almost every time
I really appreciate you making these videos for us!
Thank you for the update. I love this truck!
Fred thanks for doing these! I miss the DED extras!
Start a real "readers adventure" like the ultate adventure used to be. You can do overlanding, rock crawling, etc. Change the venue each year. You ARE the man, been watching you and Rick since the old fredurai. Subscribed!!!
glad to find your channel dude. motortrend cancelled us but this means i won't miss out on all your antics.
I had a bicycle with a hidden burr inside the wheel.. popped tubes on the regular. I spent too much money trying band aids of thicker liner, heavier duty tube. I finally spent a good 45 minutes blueprinting faults on the inside of the rim.. marked them w sharpie. I put a ultra thin layer of JB Weld over the burrs. No more problems.
Seen you do some amazing thing Fred. Looking forward to what you decide for this one. It looks cool and I'm sure you can make it Cooler.
I just bought an m715! great timing!!
Happy to see Dirt Daily! The Extras was such a good extension to DED it was sad to see it end.
About time for u to have a Chanel!
wow Fred that is the jack need very cool keep safe
So hey Fred, was the pink Sasquatch your idea?
I have some M715s along with some other older trucks, it's hard finding tire guys now that can do tube type tires well.
I've got one of these. I'm subbing. I'd like to see it as an over lander that can rock craw
You’re a smart fella, why not just cut the center out of those wheels and weld in in a modern wheel hoop?
Then you can buy boggers for it.
BINGO
EASY peasy
Need the Tubes and Boots for Radial Tires. Just like we use on the old WDX Dodge Power Wagons.

I had issues with tube recently also on my 715. Bought 10 to get 5 that would hold. First ones put on professionally, all went flat within 2 weeks. I charged out the set and have been fine since then.
No idea why, got a different brand the second time and everything is good.
Marsh racing will also make rims to fit I believe.
Others have mentioned cutting out the centers and welding them into another rim - I know an old machinist that used to do this with charger rims. I'm certain there's a DED host that could do this.
I would definitely do the axle swap myself though if I were going to use the truck frequently, or take it on the highway.
just picked up a m715 with a holmes 400 myself an havin the same tire issue as well an no shops around here will even touch it for puttin on new tires
I have one of these trucks and wheel and tire options are ROUGH Trailworthy Fab, and Stockton wheel make custom wheels for em. I don’t have the ability or money to do an axle swap but you definitely should do an episode on an axle swap for it!
could you switch out from the knuckles out to get a more modern lug pattern? I did this to the dana 44 that I'm putting under my jeep and it worked well.
just found your RUclips channel and subed before even watching the video
Hope, your other MTOD presenters go onboard with these type of updates.
Good thinking with the RUclips channel Fred 👍 spring over chevy spring swap with some newer 8 lug axles with discs... for a good RUclips side project 😉
Maneiro, nos inspire 🤙🏾
Love me some M715.

My tires are not stock, stock height, but 12 inches wide, new tube and liners stock rims...nock on wood, never had an issue to date. It has been almost 5 years now. I did do it myself, no shop near me wanted to touch split rims, even the "safety" kind like these. It was a real pain to squeeze it all together.
I think the problem is 2 fold 1 being a janky design, but 2 them wheels are meant to run 90-110 psi or there abouts, so for offroad use I imagine you air down quite a bit, allowing everything to move and rub. So, best option is probably have custom alcoa's made, or swap axles to a more common 8 lug or the ubiquitous larger 6 lug pattern
I voted for Astro Van/Rock Crawler, and still want to see that, haha, it would be hilarious
Damnit. Really sucks that Motor Trend has stopped working in Europe...
I miss getting my daily dose of dirt every day, roadkill and all the other shows 😥
Hey Fred before you go to all the trouble of swapping the axles maybe give Detroit steel Wheels a call I bet they could set you up with some wheels that will work
Could you cutoff the closed knuckle hubs and weld new C's in place? For the rear maybe cutoff the old spindle and weld a modern version in place like one from a Ford or Dodge Dana 70 srw?
Great truck.
I have the same issue with my Dodge M-37. I want to do a axle swap for more wheel options and better gears and axle shafts. It would be nice if I could drive it more reliably on easier to find tires hand get the benefit of better brakes as well.
now to make the Astro van a hardcore rock crawler, right? :)
Stockton Wheel used to sell one piece wheels for the M715’s
You need to promote this channel!
I had the same issue with my 1982 Toyota hilux that also had split rims and that were super heavy…. I just reuse the old center plate and put a newer one peace outer rime on it and saved 8 kg or wheel … 36 kg in all
What size engine is in this. Just as you were talking about it you started with the impact. I did get the Chevy straight 6 but 292 or 250? And what do you think of this set up. I'm considering going that route and did you keep the transmission set up.
what if you gave the wheels one more try, coat the inside of them where the tube rides with the rubber "flex seal" stuff? it would smooth out the sharp corners and seal the rim
Or get some chevy 16" aluminum truck rims and have a shop modify them to work with your hubs. Should be pretty cheap compared with custom rims or specialty rims.
you did this vid just you....was good... wana see more on this truck....
The “flex seal” people say it can fix your wheel leak problem.
That is a cool truck. If you stick with the axle maybe some 24 series power wagon wheels from Stockton wheel? They should be able to put any center on it for relatively cheap. Or it wouldn’t be too hard to make a set like them out of some junk steel wheels.
Keep it stock as much as possible.
Flex Seal the inside of the wheel 🤣 I wonder if that would help?
Quick question not related to this truck. What happened to the super Dirty? The F-350 built for ultimate adventure? Is there somewhere we can go to see how it faired after all that? It had some cool modifications but what was the long term
Lots of bady power !
What axles did your old m715 have under it…the truck you took surfing??
That jack... I need one of them thar things. What's the weight capacity on that unit?
You could cut the barrel off the center piece and weld on a regular steely. if you are patient enough it might actually be balanced
Try the wheels off of the Isuzu NPR that you turned into a 4x4.
Cut the centres of those wheels and find the right diameter tubeless wheels,Dayton tubeless rims in a 16 inch diameter or greater diameter will be any easy mod than changing out the front and rear axle assemblies, unless the parts for said axles( breakshoes, drums, bearings etc) are not easily available, have a great day from australia
Bart wheels will build you a set of wheels in any size, offset, lug pattern and with internal beads to keep the tires in place for a fairly reasonable price...
Have you considered going up a tube size so it can move without stretching to much
Looks like a D60 with a tracta-joint. Look around for IH truck rims from late fifties/early sixties - same axle, but can't remember if they use a weird, gigantic 5 lug or 6 lug pattern. Housings will take some tremendous abuse - the tracta-joints won't.
Braze the seam, grind smooth, powder coat inside and out. Then your tubes will last.
Right.. there are burrs or seams or deformations in there somewhere causing the pops. Find them, grind them or cover them w epoxy, bondo, etc. Rattle can Filler/Primer if you don't want the expense of a powder coat.
Are you talking about grinding the inside of the tire smooth? I'm running tubes on my m715 with 325/85R16s and radial tubes along with brand new flaps.
Idahomotorpool might have your one piece rim but they might be with tires
Grummin bread trucks use that bolt pattern I believe
Why would a custom adaptor not be an option? If its hub/lug pattern diameter, would not thinking out of the box to adapt to Nissan cabover, Hino, Sprinter, or even medium duty truck diameter wheels be an option?
What's your problem with your tires your are doing something wrong running to low of air pressure, I been running mine for years with 40psi with no problems at all
Ya, Not sure what the problem is. Have power wagons with those style tube rims that dont loose any air for literally years....
There is a company Stockton wheel I think they make m715 one piece wheels
VINTAGE POWER WAGON HAS A 17' wheel for m37 bolt pattern
Some crane 14 bolts would be awesome under it .
Would you call that a split rim?
Give Stockton Wheel a call they can make those rims standard tubeless...
Dismount, blast wheels, powdercoat and add new tubes and tar type bead sealer and slime inside of the tubes... Adapt disc brakes by mching out center of discs, fabbing caliper mounts, new hoses and a split master cylinder,voila... No big bucks spent and tires that hold air, wheels that look newband disc brakes up front...
Lol, "m715 wheel problems"..... i can relate...
I'd go the way 'Itchyoldfart' went when building his dodge m37
I am one of your first subscribers! I never win! This great!
I might just seal the rim with rtv and bead sealer.
I think new wheels is the way to go
i always wanted an old jeep gladiator or one of these, but man, they are expensive, cummins swap it
You look like Brent from pfi had a baby with JH diesel lol
If I was a two foot tall person I might watch your video
Give Stockton Wheel a call and have them make you some new tubeless wheels with the right bolt pattern.
I guess everyone's had a better experience with Stockton wheel than I had.
Wow...air tools...so quaint.
Recenter Humvee wheels
Why not some gears that would let you pass 40 mph?
Dana 70 front
Hey fred what's up with the long hair you trying to recapture your skateboard days !!!🤣🤣🤣👍
Long Hairs Rule
what about a custom adaptor! say .... 2'' thick! just a thought!
if it's a truck you're gonna keep do the axle upgrade. If not leave as-is
Looks like Brent and Jh Diesel mixed together. Lol
1968 Jeep. Ah, yes, the 60s. The last decade when Jeep still made a decent 4 X 4. 🤣😂
For Pete’s sake - just swap out the axles. I’m sure a sponsor would send you a couple. 🤷♂️
Why don’t you just weld up the split rims
Wouldn't be able to work a tubeless tire or any tire over the edge of the rim. Doesn't have the deep groove for the bead to go in while you "work" the opposite side of tire on.
@@mr.gutwrench "deep groove" = drop center
If Brent and JH had a kid....
Holly shit man I never knew about your channel ! You and finigan should do a colab vid help bring all the old viewers back !!
Get sombody to machine a set of adapter/ spacers
Swap the axles
Hmm another motor trend employee with a you tube channel.
