Driving back from Ocean yesterday, pulled over to look at a pretty small park, ready to leave and Whamm!!! Vehicle wouldn't start. Just replaced battery - with new. All lights -on dash worked, but shifter was stuck, unmovable in park. Tried to jump and tried to smack starter solenoid, still no go. Noticed that vehicle would move a bit, so used ebrake. CALLED AAA ( GREAT to have), Driver arrived and was ready to tow, but looked under vehicle first- then said " You're going home". What? "Yes, you're going to be able to ride this home." It was a shift linkage, Exactly just in this video. Took a zip-tie and secured, and Wha-La!!! Vehicle wouldn't start in DRIVE- was reason.
Thanks to a few locals to offer assistance, Thanks to AAA for doing a great job coordinating finding a tow truck driver. Thanks for this video- to explain what issue was nd how to fix! Must say that WE ARE BLESSED!

How I handled my problem on a NJ to FLORIDA drive, stuck at a gas pump in Lumberton NC, was … without having any tools whatsoever and it was 11pm at night… I took my IPhone usb cable and tied knots on the shift cable and transmission lever, and removed all slack, and pulled tightly. I finished my trip to Florida without any issues. AND YES, IM A Genius‼️‼️I didn’t have to pay a mechanic, or Towing or get a room over night.. I kept it pushin’ another 500 miles‼️ I love my cheapness and ingenuity‼️

Nice vid really appreciate it! I just did this for my 2003 trailblazer 4.2. I got part 14507 from advanced auto. I bought 14055 as well bc I read different reviews on advanced auto site & on RUclips of people saying 14507 one was wrong size & get the other. 14507 is right for the 2003 trailblazer 4.2 (the orange bushings) slid it onto the lever thing then put the linkage on, had to use force then I heard it snap & lock in place. I then pushed the cap on & that tightened as well. Thought I’d put this out there bc I found plenty conflicting info, hoping to save someone else the headache.

This happened to me this morning I stopped at the gas station with my daughter shes 39 and cut the car off and I noticed when I put it in park that it sure was easy to do so so she put the gas in and get ready to start the car and nothing so I thought it was a battery I thought it was a starter blah blah blah. So I did a Google search and it said something about transmission cable so I said to my daughter go look up there in the hood and see if you see anything moving and she saw this thing going back-and-forth she reached in and she said it looks like it’s loose and it should be attached to that other piece over there.Oh so she attached it and I started the car right up and then I looked at your video and it shows me what little piece I need to replace because right now all we’re doing is just having to stick it down into the hole until we get the bushing thank you so much. Mother and daughter minds work together better peace and love

And in 2016 Cadillac still sell vehicles with this problem. I have a 2016 CTS and their factor plastic bushing came undone. You would think after several years of customer complaints about this ongoing issue they would made an upgrade to the part but that's the exact same looking part on my 2016. Dealership wanted $1000 to replace the cable. Literally you can go under your car and push this thing in place and it will switch gears thereafter. It will continue to come loose because you need to replace the bushing as you did in this video. The dealership will tell you no we cant replace just the bushing, we replacing the whole cable. Which means they have to tear open your driver side floor and center console and shifter knob to remove old wire and rerun a new wire. Who knows what they can mess up next tearing all sorts of stuff up. As an owner of my car, the last thing I want is to have a mechanic tear down my car, I'd rather go the easiest route and make the bushing myself. Which I did....

If you look at the instructions then you will see that the flanges go in the opposite side on the cable. To get a snug fit this is the proper way. On this repair the tension from the level will pull it off the pin. I wish I could add the picture.

Great job, a little note yo add sometimes the little nipple on the end of the shift shaft is worn and you have to weld a new nipple on so it dont fall off , weld and grind it to correct diameter. I like to do it anyways just for a better hold, nothing like getting stuck in your suit and tie and having to get under there and fish it back on lol

I tried using the orange pieces from dorman 14057, but cable kept falling off. I do live in the rust belt and tip of transmission bracket/lever was rusted and worn. If you also deal with rust, I'd advise replacing the bracket, gm part#15251895. Also, the clear bushing from dorman #14055 looks exactly like the oem bushing and locks onto the groove of bracket tip.

@@dewaynemitchell302 we ended up getting it on by hammering it in. Putting something flat over it and just hammering it to push the plastic on evenly. Took 12 hrs total from start to finish.. changing my valve cover gaskets was easier and faster

I appreciate it. It might just be easier to replace the whole cable then.

Dewayne Mitchell It might be more difficult to replace the whole cable. Good news, once you get it on it’s not coming off again lol

How you actually replace the bushing as in removing the old bushing?

I can't find the bushing for my Escalade for *anything.* I got the replacements and none of the sizes fit.

Hi , thank you for your video , what are the other " 2 Clear bushing" use for , I just purchased the kit and I'd like to know if there is use for somewhere or is just an extra part in case there are different models
    Your response will be appreciated

I believe those are universal for other cars, they just include them all in one pack for all cars.
