      Hey I have an 06 trailblazer and my shifter is stuck in drive, I can push that button to move the shifter, so do I have to put the shifter back at the drive position when I'm doing this?? Please help I'm working on fixing this now

    • @JBAutomotive794
      @JBAutomotive794  3 года назад

      @@SilverBillyStacks if the indicator on the cluster is showing "D" then moving the shifter to the same position will be necessary to get the cable end to line up with the lever on the transmission. Before getting underneath the vehicle you will need to make sure the vehicle wont be able to roll and possibly cause severe injury.

    😂 UNBELIEVABLE !!! BOTH MY GMC ENVOYS shift cable bushings broke . About 1 year apart . BOTH in our driveway tho thank god. But yes thank you for this video because I was able to fix it for $12 and 5 minutes. First one I was out of town and my wife had towed to a shop and they said after looking at it that it was the transmission shifting solenoids that needed replacing and it would cost her $ 485. I told her get it back home I’ll look at it . Well I find your video researching and I fixed it. 😄😄 and not just once but twice !! Once on each vehicle … thank you my friend you save my wife being home alone ( I’m military ) from being taken for total nearly what could have been a thousand dollars. Glad I made it home and was able to find you and do it myself …

      my husband used the bushing kit containing the 2 orange bushings, however he accidently put the bigger bushing in backwards but it still locked in place. Will this be a problem possibly at a later time even though he heard and felt it lock into place. Your feedback will definately be appreciated. Being half-blind near dark caused my mistake. Last night after Bible study at my beloved CCSOLA I went to put gas in my truck for work the next day, my Chevy gear shift wouldnt catch. It was 10pm at night I had been up since 4am work all day just for this to happen. I had to have it towed home then caught the bus to work (stood all the way there because the MTA is now a crash pad for the homeless) got home mechanic online said maybe cost me 300 dollars to fix. So me being me went on RUclips found James Bradley and his Oreo cookies with this video. I did it myself thanks to you I saved myself a couple of hundred. THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for this, James. You might want to tell folks who are repairing Trailblazers and Envoys that Dorman part # 14057 has instructions that state the orange parts are for a Ford and the clear parts are for a GM. I tried for half a day to use the clear part on my Trailblazer. Dorman depicts using a c-clamp and a 9/16 socket to press the clear grommet into the cable. Not possible without removing the cable from the vehicle. Hopefully the Ford part on the GM will work and last.

    Thanks James, you saved me a lot of money and more importantly time and grief. I had just pulled into my driveway and went to shift into park, but the shifter felt soft, and the indicator stayed on Drive. I have a slanted driveway, and the only way for me to keep it from rolling was to apply the E-brake and chock the wheels while I tried to find a fix. Your video told me exactly what I needed to know, and showed me exactly what I needed to do, including the part number which made things very easy. Wish I had found this BEFORE I started taking the whole center console out to figure out what was wrong with the shifter. Thanks again!

    Electronics repair shop in Buford, Georgia and they will rebuild your broken fuel gauge very reasonably as well as the other gauges if they are broken. I'll bet the dealer told you the sending unit in the gas tank needed replacing at the tune of around $800. But is the circuit board on the guage itself.

    this helped...
    a lot of times you just need something to give you some confidence, or even more, to help you lose the "dread" of the job.. this helped with the dread.
    took longer to walk to the store than to do the job... Maybe it's just my 05 Trailblazer, but jacking the truck up was overkill.
    I'm still a little skeptical because it really seems like it is going to come off at some point while driving since it comes off so easy when handling it... but I at least know where it is now in case i have to throw it in gear by hand now.... I was going to try to order a "better" one from rockauto, but they list the same one.. they also list another one(14055), a clear one... which looks like the clear one that comes in the 14057 set... Which makes me wonder because the instructions in the 14057 say the clear one fits GMs... The dorman site doesn't provide much insight, it just says both numbers fit the vehicle.
    Have you found that the clear one doesn't work???
    Either way, very good video..... thanks

    • @JBAutomotive794
      @JBAutomotive794  6 лет назад +1

      The 14055 is the Original style bushing that came in the cable from factory. It can be difficult to install and i have seen several cable ends get broken trying to force it in. The two piece design of of the 14057 makes it much easier to install, but both will work.

      ah... old plastic... gives under the careless pressure... yeah that probably would have been me...
      I still like that design better.. i may try a heat gun for a few seconds to make the shifter end a tiny bit more malleable, then pop it in...
      thanks.... useful info.

    1, 2, 3, times wasn't a charm. Your video was #4. And the best.
    I thought there had to be a little more TLC to this repair.
    The other 3 didn't mention cleaning the connections first. I think I would have since they contact a plastic part. But I wouldn't have thought about checking the "cable support" ? Which did need a little adjustment. That saved me a bit of aggravation since it kept my shift from moving properly. All better now.
    Thanks. I'm now Subscribed.👍
    GOTTA LOVE THEM OREOS.😋

    One thing I've learned down thru the years is if you're honest with customers and try to do right by them, they will return to you when they need something else repaired. Had the same thing happen last weekend in the middle of nowhere, got it home and did the repair laying on the ground. I used part #14055 and pressed the bushing in with a pair of channel lock pliers, but the part you used is just as effective, even more simple.....

      @JBAutomotive794  6 лет назад

      The 14055 is much more similar to the original bushing in the cable, but it can be such a tight fit to push it into the cable end ive see the cable break while pushing it in with pliers. Ive never had anything like that happen with the orange bushings, but the 14055 isnt the wrong one either. Just be careful, the cable itself is kinda a pain to install due to having to lift the carpet pad up and snake it out and back in.

    I just did this yesterday afternoon. I needed one of the clear bushings from Dorman 14057 (cost me a little over $15 at O'Reillys). My AT linkage/shift lever is on the top side, luckily, though removing/replacing the airflow assembly to gain access was a bit of a bear.

      It was an '02 Buick Rendezvous. I guess I have a spare clear bushing, but I think the rest of the car will completely fall apart before I need to do this fix again.

    Thanks for this video. Easy fix! You mentioned the cable with the bushing can still come off the ball end with some force. I noticed this as well after my install (got the audible "click", as you indicated). Should I be concerned that this could pop off while shifting? How likely is that?

    • @JBAutomotive794
      @JBAutomotive794  5 лет назад +2

      As long as it clicked it shouldn't come off, run it back and forth a few times quickly and see if it withstands that. If its still on, I'd feel confident about it
