- "In the Bleak Midwinter" is a Christmas carol based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti. The poem was published, under the title "A Christmas Carol", in the January 1872 issue of Scribner's Monthly] and was first collected in book form in Goblin Market, The Prince's Progress and Other Poems (Macmillan, 1875). The poem first appeared set to music in The English Hymnal in 1906 with a setting by Gustav Holst.

I know a lot about a guy named Ford Prefect ! If you are new to Ernestina, I hope you will go to "RUclips Zevnikov" and scroll through the videos. There are many lovely performances by her and others from Slovenija. You write that no-one has heard of Ernestina, I assure you, she has quite a following. As for Paťka Janečková, I have been a fan for over 10 years. I apologise if you have seen it before but here is Paťka aged 12 in a rustic event in Ostrava a few months before she won "Talentmania" becoming a household name in Czech Republic and Slovakia. ruclips.net/video/a2Xa_zBaC00/видео.html
As for Olga, she has performed in the most prestigious opera venues Worldwide ..... Sydney, Hamburg, Salzburg, Zurich, Lausanne, Madrid, Paris, Vienna, the Met, and the Royal Opera in London to name just some. She is in the shadow of Anna Netrebko perhaps, but she is also younger,
Here is someone that you probably have not heard before, Paťka's long term tutor and mentor, Eva Dřízgová-Jirušova. Eva does not show off. She sings the part. She perfectly captures the innocent water spirit bewildered by love, an emotion that she should not be feeling. God is irrelevant. This is pure beauty inspired by human imagination and beautiful artifacts of Mother Nature and Human ingenuity.

Much too fussy an arrangement for me! It makes it too slow. Just let the girl sing, she has a good voice. Let Christina Rossetti’’s words live and breathe. The simple coffee house version by Corinne May is truer to the spirit of the carol.
Apart from one silly little boy engaged in the Peaky Blinders nonsense and a couple of the "Praise the Lord" variety, every single comment and reply in French, German Slovene, Spanish, Czech and English is in praise of this beautiful rendition and arrangement. If you had taken the trouble to read just some of them before getting active with the digits, you may have kept your totally unwarranted sourness to yourself. As for Christina's words being allowed to live and breathe, she had been dead for 12 years before Gustav set her words to this beautiful tune.
Although originally from Singapore, Corrine May, has been seriously afflicted by Americanese. She sings with an appalling American nasal accent and mis-pronounces .... "warder" instead of "water" etc. She warbles ( a succession of constantly changing notes) like so many "modern" American female singers. I suspect that you had never heard of Corrine May before you trawled RUclips looking for a name so that you could create an impression that you are knowledgeable ... How Sad (English meaning).
