The Race Sim Studio Formula Hybrid 2021 is fantastic, and the problem I'm alluding to in the title really isn't anything to do with the car, or indeed the work that RSS have put in to make what is probably the finest single seater car available for Assetto Corsa. As you would expect, Race Sim Studio have once again produced a real winner.

Look at it this way, you basically get a new F1 game every year that looks, drives AND sounds better than whatever codies have achieved during the last decade - and for a fraction of the price, I take that deal any day ;)

not a new F1 game, but a new F1 car, F1 isnt really simulated well in ac, DRS rules are non existent, no race options etc
@@Aro3o6 I could argue that F1 cars aren't SIMULATED at all in codies games, tracks aren't accurate and so on...nothing is perfect and it depends on what you care about. The stuff I care about I get in AC, not the official game.
@@DE_JOTT well you asked me to look at it a specific way, therefore I looked at it your way, which you said its a new f1 game, which it clearly isnt, its just an f1 car, but a good one. I get your point, but dont assume that the f1 by codies is inferior to ac as a "game".

@@Aro3o6 oh it definitely isn't, and that was supposed to be my point. Codies F1 games do the game part far better than AC or in fact any other sim or game or whatever you like to call it. But if you want to get close to the driving experience and to me that is what I am looking for, RSS gets you quite close considering you're still sitting comfortably at home in front of a pc 😃 with way less resources than codemasters who even have the official licence and could probably get some data like kunos did with ACC and GT3...I am not saying Codies should do a sim but I have driven all F1 games since 2010 and progress as far as I can tell has only really been made on the presentation, a few tracks have been added over the years but as a whole it feels a bit like those EA sports games that every charge full price for some tweaks and a licence update. It's just not for me I'm afraid...
Am I the only one that gets frustrated by the thumb moving on the shift up. Also great vid once again!

This is why I drive with the hands turned off in Assetto Corsa, that and the fact that there's no period correct gloves for old cars.

The problem I have in relation to the RSS FH...isn't the car itself either...it's about what you can do with it. A decent race with the AI is not easy to do, they are either too slow or just constantly crashing. Getting together a lobby of 19 other friends to do a race isn't exactly easy either. So for as brilliant as these cars are...I just can't get that excited about them at this point. I'm not the type that enjoys endless hotlapping
That’s what I’m finding too. I’m not very good but I reckon it took me over 30 attempts to complete a 15 lap race at the Red Bull Ring - the AI crashes into you at lot and gets caught on the car

It's either leagues or hotlapping. AI is unfortunately not sufficient to enjoy these
Only thing I think they miss each year is different nose cones or shapes (keep same physics so cars are even), knowing that skin packs will be released, it would be nice to have high vs. low rake or minimum different looking nosecones so they don't all look identical. Love these mods!
yeah i would love different nose cones and rear wings in the visual tab for setups
Perhaps it would be cool if they could do something VRC tends to do, with sliders in the setup window where you can change it. Altough that probably won't work with ai
True but i think the reason why is that they design their cars by the regulation each year with their own interpretation of the rulles not like others where they base it off what cars Are looking like so the nose being a critical point of aero it changes as they have a new aerodynamic design and the nose has to fit with that
There is a mod that gives the accurate aero stuff, only seen the W12 with the accurate nose cone done as the other ones aren’t yet.
You see the real problem is how the new rules negatively affect low-take cars... /s

@@Eeter26 Toto does his job and ensures Mercedes produce a competitive car. Otmar just looks for excuses for their underperformance so that Lawrence Stroll doesn't sack him.

The main problem with this car isn't the car itself but the fact that it doesn't feel like a real F1 race - the cars are all the same speed and there isn't the same immersion you'd get in the (much worse driving) codies game.
The dream would be an ACC style F1 game.
You can save an 'Opponents' preset with each car having their own stats for Strength, Aggression, Ballast and Restrictor and fill the grid how you'd like.
Once you've got the Sound Mod too for all 4 engine manufacturers you can get much better immersion.
eg, I have set Strength for HAM and VER on 100%, Haas have additional Ballast and Restrictor. Once you get it just right, you'll see Mazespin plumb last facing the wrong way with Max and Lewis fighting at the front and everything in between.
The only thing I feel missing is F1 DRS activation implementation - 1 second behind, no DRS for first couple laps...

yep, i love the F1 series but i'll be the first to say the driving isn't realistic. it's still fun, but it's more imaginative and fantastical than realistic. People will enjoy either according to their preferences, but i think the main reason why most people play the F1 games is because it feels a lot more like you're an F1 driver rather than just a racing driver in the F1 games because of career mode and stuff like that
Problem is not the mod but rather AC itself. The AI is absolute garbage. They will do whole race on one set of tires.....If we had ACC AI where they actually know how to go wheel to wheel. Will make space in qualifying. Respect blue flags. This would be the best F1 simulator to date. Sadly that will never happen even with Ilja incredible skill. RSS are the benchmark for openwheel cars but in the end its just turns to most just doing hotlaps alone. Leagues are hard to find with RSS 2021.
That's odd, I guess the AI gets way better if you play in the Weekend mode. Some AI decide to go with one stop and others with two stops strategies, but as far as I know they need to go through the practice laps to calibrate it. Content Manager now also has the AI Limitations mode which can help a lot with that. Qualifying also gets much better (less crowded) if it's a long session. You also have to make sure the Aggression level is good for each car, neither too much nor too little produces good racing, but when you find a sweetspot it can be extremely nice. It's not everything but it helps a lot.
I walk always around the car in vr and enjoy all the details in this master piece.

I think the lack of buzz is partly due to the fact that many people moved to ACC ... I really like ACC, but AC offers more for me and I still feel FFB is better in AC (especially with Content Manager + CSP optimizations).
We don't have many high level league racing in AC anymore ... which is a shame in my opinion.
Hopefully we will get an Assetto Corsa 2 some day, with more modern graphics and physics, but still moddable.
I am having trouble to get the 2021 stable. The 2020 I can get very stable and plantet, with good brakes and tracktion. The 2021 locks up easily and often I loose the backend on exits.... no matter what I do with the setup. Its fun... but not easy to drive
Same for me, the 2021 is a masterpiece but it's so hard to not lose the car which can get very frustrating. I have much more pleasure driving the 2020 as of right now.
Did you adjust the abs settings ? for me the ERS only works once even if i do 20 laps where the car should regen energy it doesn't been trying to get a good setup from RSS but to no avail
@@godvsevolutionmythgodvsevo1038 you need to set recovery at like 30-50% and then drive a bit in charging mode to recover the ers.
I definitely enjoy the 2020 car more than the 2021. Same goes for the F1 games.

The actual issue with the car is that you can floor the throttle in second gear and be totally fine. It’s like it has no low rev torque, which i’m pretty sure is inaccurate.
Actually, afaik, lots of actual F1 drivers complain that Codemasters' cars are too rear-sensitive in lower gears, that med traction control kind seems more realistic to them than no assists because they aren't *that* willing to step the rear out

I know RSS' modern formula cars are what they're known for but personally I hope they focus on some more older cars in the future. Their Formula 1990 V12 is my absolute favourite car in sim racing. I'd love them to release a mid-90s car and maybe a mid 80s car too

Yep you got that right it's their best mod, the mguh and mguk , ers doesn't work properly on the rss formula hybrid 2021 all i get is one spurt of speed with ers deployed after that the car doesn't regen for more ers speed or maybe i am doing something wrong cant get any regen to the system.

On some low speed corners like the Bus Stop at Spa it’ll rotate and is near impossible to control (at least using a Logitech G920). The default setup seems too twitchy in that sense so on certain tracks it’s a frustrating experience unless you know what to change in the complex setup. Feels great somewhere like Mugello though
Yeah spa is damn hard to get the car around the track once without messing up, its my favourite track which sucks, makes me feel for the real f1 drivers and how much they have on there plate driving these cars this year

@@aidenfielding9709 In some ways the Formula Ultimate in Automobilista 2 feels more right to me (didn’t expect to be saying that) - it’s a lot grippier and highly correctable even if the force feedback isn’t as good
@@martinbirks yeah I get ya, the formula ultimate in ams 2, which by the way I love the game, I play it more than most of my other sims because of its really nice vr experience, ease of multiplayer, and I really like the cars and how it feels, the formula ultimate is definitely alot grippier, its hard to compare that with the rss 21, because id guess she f ultimate is based on like a 2019 car, and with the new regulations to cut the floor on the 2021 cars theres going to be much less rear downforce and traction, I feel the rss 21 is a more refined, realistic version of the real thing as opposed to the FU, the way traction breaks feels genuine, like we see in f1 today they are losing the rear alot this year, lots of mazespins, so its a toss up, can probably have an easier time at keeping the FU on the track and having fun racing it hard, while the rss 21 has a feeling of accomplishment when you manages to string together a few fast laps without losing it, the rss 20 is a nice between the two of the FU and rss 21, but I do feel the rss 21 has a better overall "feel" to it, like you can feel what's going on more, especially if you have a good tactile transducer set up.

I really really like the mod, but to me there does seem to be something odd about the handeling, at least on the base setup (altough I've tried to fix it, but failed). It seems that at low speed when a lot of lock is applied the car seems to lose all rear end grip. Not like it's sliding, that you feel it drifting away, but just gone. Instant spin. It almost seems to occur when winding down the lock, and without applying throttle (altough, thottle application that doesn't seem to help either). I felt it noticeable in both the first and second part of the busstop chicane in Spa, where I still haven't found the same confidence I had with older RSS mods or with the 2017 Ferrari from Kunos. Perhaps it is something they'll fix, or I'm doing something wrong.
i think the mod has more regen and engine braking, maybe try dialling these down?
Funnily enough I’ve just said the exact same thing about the Bus Stop. You can help it a bit by increasing the front stiffness and softening the rear, but it happens at such low speeds the car in real life surely wouldn’t generate enough force to spin
@Douglas Venturin In all honesty AMS2 feels quite bad to me with some exceptions. Most cars feel strange and bouncy. It’s a shame as there’s a lot to like about the graphics and weather effects but the gameplay just doesn’t make you want to drive it even with the latest update

They make F1 cars, if F1 changes are boring RSS changes will be boring. They still altered the design of the car though, not just the floor.
I guess it would be cool if they did an entire F1 season with (almost) all of the cars, but that would be a lot of work and they wouldn't have the data to do it properly, whereas if they do their own fictional car design they can approximate the performance roughly without being too concerned about inaccuracies.
I am very glad though when they release stuff other than the latest F1/F2/F3. I have bought all of their cars minus the last 2 or 3.

Thsre is another f1 2021 mod for AC, its called GP 2021, and i wanna know which is better.. cuz rss 2021 doesnt have the actual mechanical grip the w12 in iracing has
If RSS is watching. Please start a Group C pack. AC already has three good Group C cars with a decent couple mods. I’m not saying a car or two would complete a grid but it could be close.
I just hope they balance it with the 1989 cars from AC instead of doing the later cars (though technically the 787b was later car.)

Perhaps RSS need to branch out more into other disciplines to garner a wider appeal; Last year they added Indycar *and* NASCAR to their repertoire with the Formula Americas (Dallara IR20 Indycar) and Hyperion (Mustang S550 NASCAR) respectively.
The Americas car is superb to drive - really enjoyable

For me (as a noob) the formula hybrid feels like the easiest car to drive in sim racing. There are e.g. so many corners that you can go just flat out, like Eau Rouge, which would be impossible with other cars. It feels comparative so easy it almost feels arcady. And you can also take the Monaco hairpin, which F1 cars by default can't do. I do not know at all how a real F1 car would drive, but I have e.g. heard that while it has insane grip when the tires are warm, it is like walking on eggs when they are cold, which is not represented by RSS. The hybrid 2021 is extremely fun to drive imo, but from my limited frame of references I don't think it is an accurate representation of current F1.
To be fair about Eau Rouge, most cars gt3 and up are flat through it.

If theye were like "Iphone" they would be overpriced, lacking features and falsely advertised. There are no downsides to RSS machines. Just saying.
I think a bigger question - or problem, if you will - is: how and why is it that the most true to life sim experience with the latest F1 car is only available as a mod and not in an official sim?
Because yo make the F1 license worth it you need to sell lots of copies, and to do that you need a game flexible enough to be played by the casuals and the pad users, which won't care if F1 2021 is only 75% true-to-life of what AC with this mod can be.

the Hybrid 21 is a complete brand new chassis from scratch a 100% brand new interior again all from scratch a new Rexing formula V5 steering wheel again brand new on the 2021 car, all brand new tyres and tyre textures shaders using PBR techniques to ensure a photo realistic tyre at the end,
Brand new physics all from scratch + new audio again totally different to the previous cars we have made in the Hybrid series...
It seems like all the youtube videos of these cars show full brakes without lockup, meanwhile if i apply full brakes to any of these cars, i lock up almost immediatly.. is there a eay to enable traction controll? I should be able to full brake when going straight ahead.. only lockup if i try to turn without releasing most of the brakes
There's no ABS or TC in this video, although you can apply it in game as a driver aid (in the main menu).
With high downforce cars you tend to need to brake very heavily to start with, and then bleed off the brake pressure as the speed bleeds off (and the downforce decreases) - and then of course there's the circle of grip (google it if you're not familiar), which dictates that you will also have to decrease braking force as you increase steering angle.

Could do a video on upgrade options for ppl with G27/29/similar 'budget' setups? Are there ways to keep existing pedals and upgrade wheel/base first? What is the cheapest route from "budget" wheel/pedal setup to a setup that can use different wheel types? There seems to be a huge jump from £200/300 setups to £900 Fanatec like setups. Anyway, thanks for vids, they're worth the wait.
If you want to keep the pedals, there are some connectors that allow your pedals to connect to a usb :)

And I get so pissed that people misunderstand why a game is the way it is.
"On rails aero monster", "less buzz over this (2021 season)formula car than other formula car" so exactly like it's real world counterpart?
Teams talk about drivability of the PU, brakes, aero balance/sensitivity EVERY race, and constantly bring upgrades to improve it; There is a whole section of F1 the fanbase dedicated to dissecting said upgrades from photos and sketches; Lando Norris talks about how F1 car literally "glides over bumps"; We were supposed to throw out the rulebook this year, precisely because these cars have become too aero dependent and boring.
It is backwards logic to attribute this "problem" to the simulation. Once we start purposefully dulling and enhancing certain characteristics against* the real life direction, there is no longer any standard.
For me the 2017-2021 F1 cars are boring, so I simply won't drive them in a sim, the problem is not with the sim it's with the car.
So what is the problem?
I need more speed from this car can't seem to find a good setup to get more speed the MGUH and MGUK doesn't work properly one spurt of ERS and that's all, it doesn't regen properly maybe i am doing something wrong spoke to the guys at RSS asked for a good setup guide but didn't get one.
watching several vids, looks like car is way to forgiving driven over curbs. almost totally ignoring the curb, bottom out, lowering of ride height due to bumps. to put short, drive like the curb is just a flat decoration on track.
I just got the mod but I can't play just yet - how does ERS work? I've read the manual but I don't know if there are in-race controls?
Also - do AI races have realistic pit stop rules? (Such as the minimum 2 compounds rule)
The lack of 'buzz' is probably more to do with the subject matter than the quality of the car RSS has produced. For the same reason that I'm not massively interested in F12021 - the cars just haven't moved on enough. But with a big change just around the corner it'll be interesting to see how RSS do with the actual next gen F1 car in comparison to their prototype that's already available.
Beautifully engineered video again, Chris. If only there wouldn't be this annoying adverts on the screen right oder those beautiful cars all the time...but I know thats not your fault.
I have the 2018 RSS cause its free and I have way more issues with locking up than with the Kunos 2017 Ferrari. It's harder to get used to but it feels so much faster.
every RSS car I've tried is an absolute banger. I'm in a formula supreme league series rn, it's been epic. Also check out the RSS 2, skittish but beastly
Nice video! I think the RSS mod way OP and also just not representative of reality. I dislike this mod overall, I hope they do better in the future. I disagree about the detail level too, most free mods have similar or better detail. But I liked the livery pack and your presentation style.

I’m having an absolute blast of a time. Got the new 2021 liveries too. I make it a point to drive these at sepang since I’m a malaysian and they’ve removed the malaysian grand prix.

Honestly though, I bought most of them just because of different steering wheels.
The only thing that baffles me is the front aero, different for each team and here still the same. Some liveries don't feel right with a low shape nose vs reality. That's the only thing I would not like. Otherwise, very very good mod.

hello how do you go about removing the halo thank you very much?
The one thing that I don't like with the RSS formula cars is how light the force feedback is, like the wheel is barely resisting me compared to pretty much every other cars and I just don't want to boost the FFB every time I play one of those cars. If someone knows if there's a setting somewhere to stiffen the wheel without messing with my FFB setting everytime I want to or stop using them I'd be very happy to know, also how do I make the halo transparent?
Edit: Also the Castrol logo on the inside of the halo is super low resolution and it makes me sad because it's a quite ugly stain on such a magnificent livery :(
Lower the steer assist percentage (I think it’s the second to last page on the setup page). Same thing about the halo, setting is on the setup page as well.
@@lta_sim717 That is not supposed to be messed with it controls linearity or something, not force.
@@damiendegrasse I think you’re right - I’ve never actually looked too deeply into what steer assist is actually doing, and it seems like changing ffb is the better way to fix this.

I am guessing the lack of excitement is due to the Covid BS not letting us have our true 2021 chassis. In fact I may not purchase F1 2021 due to this. Three yrs with a car that looks mostly the same. In the words of Tom Hanks from the movie Big, "What's fun about that?"

Hi, it works fine in a session on the standard Assetto Corsa game for 2021. Previous years used total car count due to the wheel design. Replays do not carry most digital data across - so only best used during the live session/gameplay itself.

RSS needs to do variants of the real models each year so I can fully replace codies for my f1 fix
I guess the lack of excitement from the community is its hard to get excited about a car which is (in terms of the source material it is attempting to simulate) similar but worse than its predecessor.
Whilst in the real world the changes have been made to hopefully improve the racing, for people driving in the game its hard to get excited about a new way of going a bit slower.

Hi, We always use AC default physics engine so the content is always available to everyone not just CSP users.

You need to map it to Kers but but use hotlap mode and motor to get the most benefit from it I find

The biggest problem is that they are too busy or lazy to release anything for rF2 - the last officially developed sim with mod support.
That's because few people play it. Assetto Corsa does everything Rfactor 2 does and for less and with a larger audience. Assetto Corsa Competitizione and iRacing scratch most people's competitive ich.
@@theonlylolking But as I said - devs are not working on AC anymore. No more official laser scanned tracks, no more licensed racing series like LMP, nothing. Just wait for AC2 which won't support modding either.
@@theonlylolking If only AC had the option for rolling starts with AI and working flag rules and safety cars. I used to argue that rF2's AI was thebest years ago, but it's gotten so bad after so many updates that I actually prefer AC's.

This car currently gets the lion's share of my seat time. I recently found a setup for it that suits my driving style and it is unreal how precisely quick it is and with the sound mod, the immersion level is off the chart. I raced last night as the no. 63 Williams and without meaning to, I took out LH at Copse exactly as he did Max. I was a half of a meter too far inside on entry and didn't hold the line. It was crazy how fast that $h!t happens. I appreciate your channel by the way.

I think they've made great mods over the years, but the 2021 one to me has taken 2 steps down, both on steering wheel looks and sounds
