That guy said it right... "You can't go wrong with Metallica" .... tons of great anthems of different styles. I'm totally OK with someone saying Creeping Death, Master, Fade, One or even with Enter Sandman... tons of quality songs. Metallica is legendary
Ride the Lightning possibly my favorite album, then Kill em all, then master of puppets. Notice most these favorites in the comments are from later albums, you can always tell who the real early fans were 😉👍
'Fade to Black', 'Master of Puppets', 'Creeping Death'...all classic songs, but people that hate on 'The Black Album' fail to realize that the commercial sound of that LP was a gateway for the masses to discover metal. After hearing 'Enter Sandman', 'Sad But True', or 'Nothing Else Matters' back in the 90's, it opened up the doors to discover their back catalogue, and introduce the masses to heavier bands like Pantera, Sepultura etc
Totally, dude, Enter Sandman was the first Metallica song I heard, seen it on MTV, it blew me away!! I bought Kill Em All a couple of days later, (the Black Album hadn't been released yet)!! Next thing I know, I'm listening to Pantera, Sepultura, Slayer, etc!!
@@centralia83 that’s cool. MTV wasn’t widely accessible to people in the U.K. though, and I’m guessing Europe-in-general, during the early 90’s. The concert that gave Metallica massive tv exposure in the U.K. was opening the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert (I think that was 1993?). That’s where I first got exposed to Metallica, seeing that tv broadcast. They played Enter Sandman, Sad But True, and Nothing Else Matters. Those songs got me hooked and I bought all their albums over the following weeks. Soon after I was listening to a ton of metal, all thanks to the Black Album.
Yeah, very cool and weird song. Cool partly because it’s so weird. It’s difficult to put a label, or a specific genre, on many of the Load/Reload songs.
I would spend days deciding which one is my favorite. But what I do assure you is that it is among these 6: Dyers Eve, One, The Shortest Straw, Blackened, Disposable Heroes and Spit Out The Bone. That's for sure
In terms of heaviness and aggression, Blackened or the Four Horseman. But looking at pure melody and songwriting value, it's gotta be the Unforgiven! That song is just so unique. They broke new ground with that one
My favorite Metallica song is Leper Messiah. That being said though, I can probably listen to Kill Em' All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All in one sitting in just about whatever order you put the songs in. Everything about those first four records is just amazing.
So many to choose from but I'll throw one in there that hasn't been mentioned: Wherever I May Roam. That first minute takes me from super chill to pure adrenaline. Love the lyrics too. "By myself but not alone" and "My body lies but still I roam" has stuck with me since i was 7 years old. Currently 33 y.o.

"Creeping Death" is their greatest song. "Disposable Heroes" is their most underrated song, IMHO......Honorable Mention to "The Thing That Should Not Be".
The Unforgiven. Super heavy verses full of anger and tension that get resolved to the beautiful chorus. Not to mention one of the most badass solos ever.
Objectively Master of Puppets, but... My favourite is Fight Fire With Fire, multiple reasons why: -The intro Bach-inspired harmony -The jaw-dropping 'complex riff' -The James' evil "We all shall die" -Kirk's solo + the drunk harmonizing -The first Lars double bass section (Horsemen 's one is just a gallop) -the "bomb drop" ending
@@derekobs9688 Not the very first riff (that's just brutal downpicking), I meant the 2nd riff, THAT'S the complex one. Sure, the rest of the song may not be that complex to play, but it offers so much cool stuff.
One is always my favorite. The emotion in that song sends rumbling chills through me, because i have met first world war veterans, and it makes me teary eyed to this day. The way it transitions into that ultra heavy thrash part with the dark lyrics and that solo, jeezus. “Darkness, imprisoning me, all i see absolute horror I cannot love I cannot die Trapped in my soul Body my holding cell”
I’m sure the black album introduced a lot of kids to the heavier side of music. I remember after I discovered they had other albums before the black album, and were even heavier, I was sold on metal.🤘🏻
They have been doing Arenas to this day because of that album. If they continued on the path of their first few albums, they would be playing similar venues as Slayer. I tried so hard to like the Black album, I was in high school at the time, I just couldn’t. I was a Pantera guy back then though.
Yeah, even though I didn't appreciate the older material nearly as much, it kinda' blew my mind to discover this, because it's normally the opposite with most other bands.
@@llahhsoj7651 did you not see all the arenas they were playing during AJFA? Come on, they were a massive success then. Black album just made them a household name.
You can absolutely answer the question: my favorite is Blackened, I know others may disagree but I've heard several fans agree, Master of Puppets, One, Fade to Black and Enter Sandman seem to be the most common favorites but every now and again, someone names a totally unexpected song and there's nothing wrong with that!
Call of Ktulu by a mile. Cliff's writing in that reminds me of Randy Rhoads. The bass jumps from rhythmic to 1 - 2 second long non rhythmic essentially lead guitar fills, then right back to rythmic bass without missing a beat. It's abrupt and schizophrenic, and yet fit in perfectly. Definitely Dave's best writing in Metallica as well.
I'm surprised One didn't get any love. That was my intro to Metallica, watching Headbanger's Ball when I was ten years old and just being blown away by everything about that song and video.
It got a little love in this vid. Best Metallica song is such a hard fucking question with every answer being right aside from anything on St. Anger....

After reading a lot of the comments below, i cant believe nobody mentioned" the four horsemen" truly an underrated masterpiece.
The video did
Written by Dave Mustaine
@@ilovehmetal Mustaine fans are delusional.
4 horseman. Kill em all was an awesome album.
Yea thats one of my favourites too!
You mean Mechanix? That's Dave's song!
Honestly, without controversy, most of that album was written by Dave:)
@@gersongomez6501 True. But 4 Horsemen is also played way too slow and has a much shittier ballad style guitar solo. They took all the aggression out of the song.
I'll take the angry mechanic over a horse with no balls.
Close enough... we all know Dave's a beast.
dealing with anxiety and depression 'Until it sleeps' is my favorite song because I can relate to the lyrics in some way 🤘
Me too lol
Good one bro!✌💛🤘
BLEEDING ME
Damage Inc has my favorite Metallica riff so that one
Youre talking about that gallop riff towards the end right?
You laugh we scream and shout!
@@omicron5529 yup!
@@omicron5529 the break down part.
That's my favourite part too.
...And Justice For All, itself. For me, it's like the peak of it, has everything, heaviness, trashines, lyrics, drums, harmony. If you look at the Remix and Remastered version of Ahdy is like going to heaven.
For me, the most complete, meaningful, Metallica song.
Dude dyers eve is just so good, that solo is when Kirk said “no more messing around”😂
God it is tough,my choices are “to live is to die” “Master of puppets” “Ride the lightning” “One”
“Creeping death” and “The unforgiven”.Personally my favorite album is between justice and master of puppets
Good call man, 'To Live is To Die is the song that made me a fan.
Dyers Eve, is such a great choice
Dyers eve is absolutelly killer, so fucking fast
For me Dyers Eve is one of Hammett's best works, along with Ride the Lightning and Blackened.
Welcome Home (Sanitarium). A Masterpiece.
Ye
Sameeee
@Shane Culliton my kinda people here. It's goes through the full spectrum of Metallica.
this is so underrated
My fav song is def Welcome Home
That guy said it right... "You can't go wrong with Metallica" .... tons of great anthems of different styles. I'm totally OK with someone saying Creeping Death, Master, Fade, One or even with Enter Sandman... tons of quality songs. Metallica is legendary
"Fight Fire with Fire" is my favorite. Brutal and merciless.. the music equivalent to war. Nothing sounded like it at the time.
Nobody talking about Ride The Lightning or To Live Is To Die? Damn okay
Lol the comment right under yours was like RIDE THE LIGHTNING!!!
Ride the Lightning possibly my favorite album, then Kill em all, then master of puppets. Notice most these favorites in the comments are from later albums, you can always tell who the real early fans were 😉👍
To live is to die.. and orion are my favourite..
@@crystaloffrost exactly mine too
'Fade to Black', 'Master of Puppets', 'Creeping Death'...all classic songs, but people that hate on 'The Black Album' fail to realize that the commercial sound of that LP was a gateway for the masses to discover metal.
Metallica is a great introduction to metal for people who’ve never heard metal before
One was the first song I ever heard. I was like 3 years old and I watched mtv instead of cartoons. I remember seeing the music video.
Sure but that doesn't mean that The Black Album is their best album. It might be like their 5th or 4th best album.
The House Jack Built is very underrated. It's so creepy and weird.
Definitely! Cool riffs!
Yeah, very cool and weird song. Cool partly because it’s so weird. It’s difficult to put a label, or a specific genre, on many of the Load/Reload songs.
I have part of the lyrics tattoed on my ribs. Is one of my life mantras.
Outlaw torn is fantastic
Just thinking that...
Never thought I'd see this in the comments. 👍
I would spend days deciding which one is my favorite. But what I do assure you is that it is among these 6:
Dyers Eve, One, The Shortest Straw, Blackened, Disposable Heroes and Spit Out The Bone. That's for sure
In terms of heaviness and aggression, Blackened or the Four Horseman. But looking at pure melody and songwriting value, it's gotta be the Unforgiven! That song is just so unique. They broke new ground with that one
I review metallica albums on my channel if anyone is interested!
For me it’s Damage, Inc.
I mean it’s a realllyyyyyyy underrated song
the middle riff is definitely one of my favourite riffs ever
Heck yea!
Like Struggle Within.
@@kg0173 i feel like Struggle Within is the only song on the album with a thrash feel, so the majority of the black album audience underlook it
I agree like the riff is fast the solo is probably one of my favourites it’s in my top 5 songs from Metallica
My favorite Metallica song is Leper Messiah. That being said though, I can probably listen to Kill Em' All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All in one sitting in just about whatever order you put the songs in. Everything about those first four records is just amazing.
I could probably listen to all of em too... if you took away Leper Messiah from the playlist

Love that song too!!!! The Anthem of the Gypsy!!!!!
My number ONE favorite if I had to pick ONE, would be that ONE song from that ONE album called And Justice For All, and that ONE song is called ONE
I'm still trying to think you're saying one is your favorite song I'm not sure yet lol
Which One Was It Tho. ???
The Shortest Straw is my favorite Metallica song.
Yeah that is an awesome song, so is No Remorse.
Yes. Shortest Straw is #1
I’ve been looking for this comment, because same!!
Simply a Masterpieces \m/ \m/
It’s in my top 20 heavy and cool solo
Fade to black, Orion, To live is to die.
Finally someone mentioned Orion!
orion,one,for whom the bell tolls,my top 3
@@psychosalad6653 everyone mentions Orion and not call of ktulu or to live is to die which are better
to live is to die is my shit
And THIS is the most accurate comment on here
Here is an easier question - What is the best MetallicA album?
Personally I’m a Ride the Lightning guy.
Agreed
Im a MOP guy, but i won't argue the point.
All of the first ones with cliff are the absolute best. Justice is great too.
We have this one guy in our group. Every single time there's a party, without fail, at some point in the night he will ask what everyone's favorite Metallica album is, and we have the whole conversation all over again. Shout out to Nick!
Kill em all ride the lighting or ... And justice for all
Creeping death, call of ktulu, fade to black, master of puppets, the thing that should not be, battery, one, shortest straw, blackened, harvester of sorrow, the frayed ends of sanity, and justice for all, there’s no way to pick a #1
Can’t believe Ride The Lightning wasn’t mentioned in your comprehensible choices!
And welcome home sanitarium
Leper Messiah! This question is impossible.
The Day that never comes, spit out the bone, moth into flame, half of load, fuel, basically all of death magnetic. Hwtsd. Dude metallica has great songs after black
@@tracemasters620 Yea but they don't compare to the early stuff.
- What Is Metallica's Greatest Song?
- Yes.
Best answer PERIOD!!
Not so sure. I can't listen to anything after Justice. Its just not good.
Exactly
Orion.
Yeah St Anger
No love for St. Anger? Haha.
I wanted to say I love that album I was born in 97 so that was like my first Metallica CD I never understand why it gets so much hate
@Dr. Hannibal Lecter why you sorry for speaking your mind you good bro lol
Haha, well, it's the best Metallica song ...behind all those mentioned in the video and most others from the first five albums.
No love for Load and ReLoad either. Can't imagine why.
@@PazBinv1
Because there's not a song on either good enough to be mentioned along with any song from the previous albums.
I bought 'Load' back then, one of the worst purchases I ever made.
Ride the lightning “ is the ultimate heavy metal epic.
It's hilarious because you can't argue anything anyone claims because every song brought up is so good
I’ll go from God That Failed, Welcome Home Sanitarium, Creeping Death, Master of Puppets, Battery, One, and Harvester of Sorrow as my favorites. A continuous cycle of those songs
“To live is to die” is the correct answer.
Yes I think that to...
Thats my pick too.
ruclips.net/video/sL7v8Drqa-E/видео.html May Cliff have mercy on our souls.
It's the best but there is no right answer
ONE.. it is an adventure with meaning. tragic, anger, frustration, a cry for help.. and on and on.
My top 5
1. Creeping Death
2. One
3. Master of Puppets
4. For Whom the Bell Tolls
5. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Sanatorium is certainly my fav!
@@spurezurko SAAANEEETEERRAIOO
Same five but a different order for me
"Creeping Death" is their greatest song. "Disposable Heroes" is their most underrated song, IMHO......Honorable Mention to "The Thing That Should Not Be".
Their most under-rated song is on a non-album "Beyond Magnetic" and it is REBEL OF BABYLON
Imo their most underrated song is Suicide and Redemption.
Ok i think Leper Messiah is definitely the most underrated Metallica song. Its my favorite song by them and you never hear anyone talking about it.
The Unforgiven.
Super heavy verses full of anger and tension that get resolved to the beautiful chorus. Not to mention one of the most badass solos ever.
but the black album sucks
@@thewaysofthrash8883 nope black album and justice are their best albums.
@@nevermind4611 your mind is fucked then
it goes kill em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets and and justice for all
@@thewaysofthrash8883 name an album from load all the way until hardwired that comes even close to the black album
Objectively Master of Puppets, but...
My favourite is Fight Fire With Fire, multiple reasons why:
-The intro Bach-inspired harmony
-The jaw-dropping 'complex riff'
-The James' evil "We all shall die"
-Kirk's solo + the drunk harmonizing
-The first Lars double bass section (Horsemen 's one is just a gallop)
-the "bomb drop" ending
I am no guitarist but I always felt fight fire with fire to the their simplest song riff wise..
@@derekobs9688 Not the very first riff (that's just brutal downpicking), I meant the 2nd riff, THAT'S the complex one. Sure, the rest of the song may not be that complex to play, but it offers so much cool stuff.
Damage inc, Dyers eve, Master of puppets, Disposable heroes, Fight fire with fire, Blackened, Metal Militia in my opinion
Finally see Damage Inc. lmao
Really cant argue that list
Fight fire with fire is definitely one of my favorites.
Damage inc. Favorite on that album
Blackened!!!
Surprised no one has said "Dyers Eve". That's one of my favorites
One is always my favorite. The emotion in that song sends rumbling chills through me, because i have met first world war veterans, and it makes me teary eyed to this day. The way it transitions into that ultra heavy thrash part with the dark lyrics and that solo, jeezus.
“Darkness,
imprisoning me,
all i see
absolute horror
I cannot love
I cannot die
Trapped in my soul
Body my holding cell”
I’m sure the black album introduced a lot of kids to the heavier side of music. I remember after I discovered they had other albums before the black album, and were even heavier, I was sold on metal.🤘🏻
Same.
@@joetroutt7425 True but they still play them to this day mostly because of the Black album IMO.
This might be one of the hardest questions you can ask someone
It’s an
Impossible question to answer because everyone has their own favourite so you’ll just go round and round with this one.
Round and Round is by Ratt, duh! (just clowning).
"What is Metallica´s greatest song?"
YES
Anger....
Definetly Blackened is my fav, or Disposable, but the best imo is Fade
How can you say that heir best is not your fave? thats idiotic! All Music is subjective
It's not idiotic, I too rate Fade to Black 'objectively' as their best song, but not it's my favourite. My favourite is Frayed Ends of Sanity.
@@sortflag lol, it's not idiotic 😂. Probably on some bands are songs that objectively is the best of the band (for example, BYOB by System of a down). But that song isn't even yout fave song for some reason and you have other fave (in my case, Highway song)
@@sortflag No its not, one is more complex and well written. What you like is subjective.
Great choices. Probably my top 3 as well but can swap Fade with Creep
I really wanna say “St. Anger” just to piss everyone off. LOL 😂 But, on a serious note, it’s “Master of Puppets” for me. That song was brilliantly assembled in the 7th level of Hell. Pure genius…

creeping death is the best though
