- If you became a metalhead at any time in the last 25 years, then chances are you had a Slipknot phase. From their super heavy first two albums to the more experimental direction of their recent material, the Iowa NIne have cranked out dozens of kick-ass songs and played a huge part in shaping the sound and culture of 21st century metal. We turned to bigwig metal and rock musicians, many of whom grew up on Slipknot- members of Spiritbox, Bring Me the Horizon, In Flames, We Came As Romans and more - to pick their single favorite songs in all of the 'Knot's catalog. See their picks above and let us know yours in the comments below!

Shawn’s son picking “No Life” when that is reportedly the song where Shawn decided Corey was officially in the band… so full circle it’s insane
But can’t pronounce Gematria
No. The song that got Corey the job was Me Inside, it’s not “reportedly” either, it’s known for sure
@@ian6fx995 you're right. i'm trash lol thank you!
My Plague. Never fails to give me goosebumps
that riff is disgusting... it's like the sonic personification of a giant slimy slug slowly crawling over your entire body like waves in the beach
I have concluded that the blister exists is underrated as fuck (my plague is fuckin cool too)
Same here
First song i ever heard of Slipknot, hooked for life. Still my personal favorite till this day
"your impossible ego fuck is like a megalomaniacal tab on my tongue" the lyrics in that song are so incredible
Left Behind was the first one I heard, and one of the songs that got me into metal, but Snuff is so hauntingly beautiful
Same bro, left behind got me into metal and vocals. I wanted to do what corey taylor was doing so bad lol they opened the doors for me and literally changed my life
Finally someone said Left Behind
For me the two best songs by far are Disasterpiece and Solway Firth
Solway firth is so fucking good man
Disasterpiece and The heretic Anthem is GOAT
@@camzilla_does_music834 their best song
Disasterpiece for sure
@@camzilla_does_music834 100% agree. Top 3 for me
Makes sense that Vended had some of the most valid picks lmao
Fr. No Life, Diluted like of course they know the deep cuts. Also No Life with the opening "My freedom is best, whole country's on house arrest..."
@@Duality_of_Man I listened to No Life like 5 times yesterday then diluted, then put on some other band, swear to God. Thanks for your comment. It's pretty much confirmation that I have a sweet ass taste in music. 💪😎
My fucking dude Peter Smith with the A1 statement
All the people saying Duality or Psychosocial should listen to Get This.
Vended is Slipknot son band members
Purity is my all-time favorite to this day. Sucks it couldn't be on the debut originally.
It is on the original issue of the debut, but then had to be taken off for the reissue.
I had it on the OG press. Was lucky to have it and wish I still had it.
This is my pick as well!!! Def a great beautiful song with a dark story!!
Yup
Gotta agree with this one - Their Self Titled is my favorite album from them and Purity is the one song that I will not skip no matter what im in the mood for.
My favorite has been and always will be "Gently", something so comforting yet so possibly destructive as the song builds, feels so personal
my man
Especially the live version on disasterpiece dvd. It’s like being in a dream.
@Donald Nowak I agree!! When I was in Iraq I had that DVD, it kept me alive and motivated. Whole DVD is amazing though
The first version is also amazing
@@leeo3 yes it absolutely is!
Iowa to me is the most emotional and dark album in metal history period. There is so much pain that it gives me goosebumps and it makes me cry
And I will die on that fucking hill to this day and never change that opinion
I I had to pick one per album:
Surfacing (or purity)
Disasterpiece (or people = sh*t)
Before I Forget (or vermillion pt2)
Psychosocial (or gematria)
The Negative One (or the devil in i)
Unsainted (or solway firth)
Hive Mind (or h377)
It's really hard to pick just one cuz there's so many good songs.
“The Shape” just hits different, especially the breakdown
Sic will always be super brutal to me and that first album was a game changer for me, but I would say Devil in I is one of my all time favorites Slipknot song. The Video is soooo brutal🤘🤘
I remember when the first album dropped when I was in high school.. only being exposed to the likes of Korn, Metallica, etc it was the craziest album ever. I'd say (sic) because I just never heard anything that heavy before so it stays as my favorite to this day. And honestly it took a few listens to really get it because my musical vocabulary just wasn't up to par yet. Such a gateway drug of a band to heavier genres too!
Wait and Bleed was the very first song I've ever heard. I remember going through my older brothers unmarked CD collection and the CD had tons of random songs from various artists. I heard Wait and Bleed and immediately became a fan.
Metabolic was it for me. That Iowa album is a masterpiece start to finish.
same
Thank you.
Thank you.
The most based of them all
Gematria has to be one of Slipknot's underrated song in the whole discography or maybe one of the underrated metal song of all time.
I love the energy of All Out Life, I think its my favorite slipknot song
Most diverse list of answers. I think that shows how good their songs really are. Some lists are like two songs.
Spit it out has been my favourite or up in there for so long, but recently I love Nero Forte, its that rumbling rhythm and perfect fluidity throughout. Its fun and so easy to listen to.
I was agreeing with everyone, couldn't figure out which one I was thinking of until I heard someone said "surfacing". When I heard them on the live album with Corey screaming "here's your new national f*ING anthem, I went nuts. Then I heard it live during the encore and lost my shit
Disasterpiece is always going to rip my head off! It’s an absolute monster! 🤘🔥🤘
I have 3 favourites from them:
- Wait and Bleed
- Pulse of the Maggots
- Gematria (The Killing name)
I’m glad some people are appreciating Custer
Eyeless.
Gematria ( The Killing Name) is a underrated Slipknot banger !!
I'll always remember being in the 4th grade and my big brothers coming back home after being in Texas for 3 years and introducing me to slipknot wait and bleed was the 1st track I ever heard and will forever be my favorite
I won’t say its their best songs. But Left Behind and Wait and Bleed have the most replays for me probably. Self-titled, and Iowa where my freshman and sophomore years of high school. Good Times
"Duality", "killpop" & "left behind" are always fighting for my favorite slipknot song.
I feel that No Life is a hidden treasure. Such an awesome song. But I’m with those that couldn’t answer the question.
Was so glad to hear Simon say Gematria, I’ve always seen that as their most underrated song
Vended has the best picks and it shows that they actually know the band well
I love the not-quite-but-almost Slipknot background music in this video lol, I think my fav now is Spit It Out, but when I first heard them it was Disasterpiece. and Wait & Bleed is objectively a perfect song
Nobody mentioned Snuff or Solway Firth, which are both up there for me
I made a list based on my personal emotional touch:
1. Snuff
2. Wait and Bleed
3. Custer
4. Nero Forte
5. (sic)
6. Spit it Out
7. Psychosocial
8. Eyeless
9. People = Shit
10. The Heretic Anthem
11. Vermilion (both)
12. Til we Die
13. Dead Memories
14. Duality
15. Left behind
16. Unsainted
17. Scissors
Those are in my daily playlist but of course there are many more bangers!
No love for Gematria?Mick and Jim killed that on guitars
@@HellusRaizen I think their most political and brutal song.
no before I forget?
I love heavy riffs, I love songs with a groove so I love KILLPOP.
Eyeless and Everything Ends and Scissors and Gently. Can't decide, damn that's tough
I used to be a massive fan of them, not so much in the past couple of years. I still enjoy Iowa, so I’d probably go with p=s, or eyeless
Disasterpiece and People=Shit is some of the rawest shit I’ve ever heard and nothing can capture the emotion and heaviness like Iowa
Gotta be Surfacing. I listened to it before I took the Mound in HS, College and The Minors every inning to get amped/pumped up.
The best song? Corey doing the sponge bob theme!
Too heavy for my liking
@@alexandrecorreia5246 lol 😂
YES!!!!😂
I probably would have to say Before I Forget because I remember being idk 4 years old and going crazy on that song in Guitar Hero 3
(However I need to say also
- Wait and Bleed
- Left Behind
- The Heretic Anthem
- (sic)
- Eyeless
- Welcome
It might be a little too popular but it's just my opinion)
I love how Vended went with deep cuts from the self titled! To me it's either Sic or People = Shit but ohh man they've released some other fine bangers such as Birth Of The Cruel or Gematria. I love Slipknot.
Love all of them. At the moment my favorite is The Burden.
"Diluted" is mine. 24 years later and it is still fresh to me.
spit it out is the goat
I could not pick 1 Slipknot song as their greatest. They have so many great songs!!!
Its just unfair to make us choose slipknot best song,
We are talking about metal grammy winner afterall, its just way too hard to choose.
The guy who.mentioned gematria... A true man of culture
I'm 35 years old and been a fan since 2000 (not so much now) so you know i'll pick Scissors, Tattered & Torn, Skin Ticket and so on
Courtney got me confused so quickly. All that just to say Psycosocial
Frail Limb Nursery/Purity is some the heaviest and most chilling shit I’ve ever heard. Will always be my favorite Slipknot song!
Welcome. That frantic crescendo building up into one massive cathartic release at the end. The last chorus and then the entire song drops out.
Wait and Bleed was my intro to slipknot. Will always hold a place in my heart
Freshman year of high school I discovered Iowa and it carried me
Heretic Anthem has always been one of my favorites.
Duality, Psychosocial, Before I Forget, so many good ones. But anytime I think of Slipknot, I think Heretic Anthem.
Gently (both version but the one on mate feed kill repeat is 🔥🔥🔥)
Purity, New Abortion and The Nameless are the top for me. Each representing a part of Slipknot. Purity prominently features every member tho so I'd say that is their best song.
Before I Forget because it has such a good groove
It’s so hard for me to pick. I go through phases where I’ll play certain songs they have more than others. Lately I’ve been playing Left Behind constantly. Psychosocial is what got me into them though, so it holds a special place. People=Shit and Pulse of the Maggots have been phases for me too.
eyeless is pure chaos and i love it
So when I first heard The Heretic Anthem I was like on these guys are definitely something. But then I heard Disasterpiece and I was fully sold. Beat track for me with a lot of their early stuff being a close second, depending on the day really
Chris Garza with the Chamber Music shirt! 🤘🏻
Sarcastrophe is so underrated but its by far my favorite, absolute best imo
Prosthetics
this song is in a whole different level
My go to has always been "Gently".
Sic will always be in my heart
I only ever purchased their debut on release and I remember my favourite being "Tattered and Torn". Not a fan of the band though.
For me surfacing. As a teen wait and bleed got me to listen to the album, which every song I listened to multiple times over but surfacing wrecked me and had the most replays for me.
It has changed over the years. Right now metabolic is at the top. Left behind and No life are my personal choices too. Very underrated.
Anything from their first album. Nothing else tops.
Solway Firth is probably my favorite, but The Shape as to be a close second
left behind, snuff and purity... all right in the feels for me
Purity is top for me!! Good song
Left behind. A man of culture
Left Behind is it for me
YES BROOO ALSO DILUTED
Sick was my favourite for years, but since we are not your kind was released, Solway firth has blown me away.
Surfacing and The Heretic Anthem 😏🫡😳
I'm gonna go find out something about Mike's Dead. Love his answer.
Totally tripping me out how the green background seems to be breathing 😂
It gives me physical pain when people choose post 2008 songs as the "greatest".
Good 🤷♂️
It's undoubtedly a great challenge to pick one. Pulse of the Maggot, Custer and Spit it out are top notch for me
Solway Firth for me. It's a fucking rush of pure energy from start to finish 🤘🤘🤘
New Abortion
Danger (keep away) is such a good song
duality?????!? wtf ???? NO
the song Iowa is the best
Garza's opinion about IOWA was on point
It's Before I Forget or Eyeless.
Damn turns out I should follow Wargasm
One overall is impossible, so I’ll do one per album:
Slipknot: Eyeless (or Scissors)
Iowa: Disasterpiece (or Iowa)
Vol 3: The Blister Exists
AHIG: Sulfur (or .execute./Gematria)
.5: The Negative One (or Custer, or Sarcastrophe)
WANYK: Unsainted (or Red Flag)
TESF: Hive Mind
I love that vendeds picks were from self titled and Iowa. Disasterpiece is also my pick lol
Psychosocial is what got me into Slipknot and I credit it as the song that saved my life, but I don't think it's the best, for me the best Slipknot song is Purity, it's the closest a song I've ever heard to really relating to the desperateness of depression and pain and willing to do anything to get out of that, and the girl in the box story is just so disturbing that it's just pure Slipknot to me
Still waiting for Slipknot to play gematria live
Simon with the No Life pick was dank.
Liberate, Surfacing, Sic, No life, so many great songs
Left Behind and Wait and Bleed for me
I fucking love Vended's picks
Blister exits is brutal from start to the end
Mine will always be Before I Forget. It's the song that introduced me to Slipknot
Everything Ends, but Iowa the entire album is one of the most crucial, heaviest metal albums ever made. Btw, what's the song in the background?
It's a tricky question because "Greatest" doesn't mean "Your favorite"
I think it has to be a combination of factors. Has to sound good, have good to great lyrics, has to be one of their biggest songs in terms of widespread appeal, and has to be in line with what the band usually sounds like (this is just to invalidate Snuff as the obvious answer). Of course it has to be one that you enjoy, otherwise, would feel pretty shitty to say it's the greatest.
Taking all that into consideration, I would say it's Before I Forget
Left behind 🤘🏽
Three nil will always be my fav track, and butchers hook is a close second, although I've been a fan since the first album, I'm a "djent" musician and I've always leaned towards groovey riffs, and those two tracks are they're grooviest tracks, hands down bess
Sic & Purity - both from the original (black)
Nameless just love that song
skin ticket, gently, surfacing , can’t pick only one
