- How to get rid of frizzy hair starts with hair moisture. Frizzy hair is fixed by first understanding how to moisturize curly hair then knowing how to not cause any excess frizz during the styling process etc. This video will teach you the common reasons curly hair lacks moisture as well as why it gets frizzy AND how to combat those concerns! Curly hair has less moisture because of the shape, the color, using the wrong shampoo as well as other causes. So let's talk about why theses things happen and simple ways you can address them!

Please do more videos for curly hair type
Glad you’re liking them. I’m working on more.
Absolutely loving your curly hair series!!! Just ordered PH testing strips. Thanks for the tip
I have mixed textured curly hair (straight, wavy, and curly), so I love your curly hair videos. Please keep making them.
P.S. I love that you do your videos outdoors in different places. It is also great that you change locations throughout the video. It really helps keep the video interesting and exciting and prevent monotony.
Finally! Thank you! I've been looking for your videos about curly/wavy hair care. Just keep them coming! 😊
Omg I love going on adventures with you! Thank you for always bringing us helpful tips & tricks too!
You are so welcome! So glad you enjoy the trips! Thanks for the support!!!!
Great tips and video, Justin!… you never disappoint!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks so much!
Thank you thank you! For making a video especially for us curly hair girls! Excellent tips!
Hi Justin! Stopping by your channel to say hi! Since I'm a naturally curly girl of course I had to click on this video! Waiting for my hair to dry without touching it is so frustrating, my hair takes forever to dry, but you are right, it makes a huge difference on the frizz! - Amanda
I love watching you,you are so helpful !Thank you❤
Not that you’ll see this comment, since this video was made months ago, but JUST found you and subscribed after yet another stylist cut my curly hair way too short for me. Love your comments about not manipulating the hair to avoid frizz, unfortunately, I’m a Jeep girl who has the doors and top off her Jeep all summer clearly frizz is unavoidable for me, and I’m a little scared what really short curls will look like as we come upon topless season for the Jeep 😂😂. Love your curly hair content. So many stylists don’t have a clue what to do with it. Hair styling is an art itself, but good curly hair styling? That just makes you a magician!
Oh wow!… great tip on the ph balance tests!… never knew that!… thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
You always have such great information!! Being a wavy girl myself, I've really enjoyed this curly series you're doing! Would love to also see some tips on hair with different textures. Half straight/half wavy..etc. Styling is a real challenge even with a good cut, as I end up with flat roots and too much volume on the sides.
Thank you!! Totally agree. The hardest part about this series is trying to find photos/models with the specific textures I need.

I just love you, Justin!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My guy!!!👏👏👏👏👏just started watching!!!
What's up Linda!
Very helpful video for me. Thanks.
LOL #4!! Sometimes I feel like my entire life revolves around "minimizing manipulation of the cuticle from wet to fully dry"!!! This is why the Dyson w/diffuser changed my life...dries so much faster and with less frizz!!
Ok.Great tips and another awesome adventure.
Thank you! So glad you liked it!
Thanks again for another awesome video! Love your work, mister! Yeahhhh... curly hair can be a curse! You have to be soooo careful witih what you do and how you do it... but it can be sooo beautiful too. I've struggled with my curly hair all my life, and, of course, like many others, started straightening it at an early age. But I found the Curly Girl movement about 2 years ago, and have been experimenting with it, and a heap of different products ever since. And it's been cathartic... I realised that letting the straightening go and learning to love my curly hair has been one of the last bastions I've had to break down to truly learning to love and value myself, as strange as that seems. I enjoy my wash days and experimenting with new products, and I feel weird if I don't go through my whole wash day rigmarole! Thanks heaps again for this great vid and your awesome tips... love you, Justin! xxoo
I love this! That’s freaking amazing. The way you were able to take some thing that bothered you and use it to create more confidence is inspiring! Well done!
@@justinhickox Thanks heaps, Justin! Funnily enough, I've seen a heap of curlies say the same kinda thing! Delicate lil flowers we are hahahaha NOT!!! XXOO
I just found your channel, and am enjoying your tips. I've scrolled through your playlists, but there isn't a curly hair playlist. Would you consider making one? It would make things easier for us curly girls to have all of your curly hair videos in one playlist.
I have been fighting my curly, frizzy hair for decades by blow drying it straight with a round brush - that lasted 5 minutes before it turned to curly frizz! But recently a family member during my Covid-neglected and lengthened hair convinced me to embrace my curly hair. The problem is I had no idea how to treat or style curly hair. No one had ever taught me how to treat or style curly hair which is totally different from what I’ve done to get that smooth/straight look. This video has helped me tremendously and I honestly never knew just how curly my hair really is. The product advice as well as drying process is one thing but not running my fingers and/or comb through it was foreign to me but turns out to be a no-brainer. Love your videos and appreciate your expertise.
Same! My daughter and nine year old granddaughter both said they like my hair curly. They think it’s softer and younger than my straightened bob and/or flip. So I’m trying to embrace my curls! Justin’s video is a great help to me. I may still go back and forth with straight vs curls but it’s nice to have the option.
I agree but in my case, it can curl but the fizz isn’t gonna stop. I have natural but its grey now and that’s a new ballgame for me.
Ooh! I found this great tutorial!
Excellent as always...oh yes...I am overwashing this mane of mine...have to step my game down....thank you Dear Justin...cheers..Jana
I have dark brown hair. I have fine, thin curly hair. I would like to do some highlights. What would your recommend? I love all your videos. Thank you
HEY! Did I miss you saying “the view doesn’t suck”????? Humidity is my biggest frizz problem with living in the Pacific NW (Vancouver, BC). I can’t walk the dog without my hair becoming a fuzz ball so I always have to put it in a ponytail 🤪
Very informative! I would like to see product recommendations if possible.
Thank you! Will do! I'll be doing more videos with product recommendations for SURE!
Please include budget friendly. I live in a very small town without a lot of options. Get tired of ordering online, waiting and paying for shipping. 🤔
Great curly hair video! I have fine, 3c hair and find that Ouidad Featherweight Styling Cream really defines my curls and keeps frizz to a minimum without weighting it down. I’ve hated my hair curly and always blown it out straight (profile pic) but this product is a game changer! Living in hot, humid SW FL I’m trying to embrace my curls… hard to do at 74 and wearing it straight 99.9% of the time! Also, to get more volume at the top and avoid triangle hair I lift the roots on the crown and spray Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Texture Spray. It really helps volumize the top.
Keep doing these videos, Justin! You are terrific!!
Gorgeous scenery!!!!
It's a cool area for sure! Side note, it's also the very first time I actually almost got lost! Thankfully I was using a GPS tracking system but there were SO many random trails!

What type of products do you recommend for curly hair? and then what order do we use them?
Your right !
Thank you! Stoked you agree!
Awesome!
LOL! You thought something was behind you. I felt that. But cracked me up. And no way am I climbing down some stupid ladder into a black hole. NOPE! And talk about scary...yep, brushing my hair after it's dry. OH MY!!!
What is a good shampoo with the recommended pH balance?
What about hard water ?
Thank you for your insights. Any thoughts re: 3C curly hair dryness and frizz from outdoor activities i.e. bike riding or running? After these activities I typically wet down the more dry frizzy sections with water and sometimes add leave-in conditioners. But those efforts seem to make those sections even worse and problematic which is terribly frustrating. Could using only water to reset the curly/remove the frizz make my hair drier and worsen the problem? I've tried products i.e. Ouidad Climate Control Restore spray but these products used on already dry hair tend to leave my hair sticky and still very dry not solving the underlying parched hair issue. Thank you for your feedback.
Any tips for combing out knots of curly hair before having to wash it again?
what product do you use for 2B hair that gets weighed day easily but needs definition. Gel tends to not be my friend
Eliminating conditioners that contain silicones and shampoo containing sodium laurel sulphate has been the best thing for my hair. I had to avoid 95% of products on the market because of these ingredients. But there are some gorgeous shampoos and conditioners just perfect for curly hair.
Absolutely! Love that you figured all that out. Well done! Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks Justin. My hair looks OK when first dry it. After 10 mins it's doubled in size !!! Oh heck.
Totally hear ya. You may want to try a product with a bit more control. That could help. Also, the cut will play a HUGE role. Sometimes cutting the volume out is the only way.
Oh man I missed this earlier. So had to catch my “Hair tips Tuesday “ . Okay you schooled me on 3 tips to turn my curls from crazy to amazing, Got question. Does pulling my hair up in my head wet cause issues. Normally in pony. Scunchie, or clip. Sometime I do it with curling spray on it. Side not still wet like 7 hours later sometimes if left up. Thank you for the curly hair videos
Thank you! Glad I could help. Great question, pulling your hair up when it’s wet will definitely affected, the bigger question is hell and if that’s a good or bad thing for you. Depending on how you pull it up, it may get less curl at the roots if there’s too much tension. You may or may not like that as it could decrease volume at the roots. On the other hand, it may increase volume in some areas at the roots but this is all dependent on how it’s pulled back. There are a lot of very small through Boles to take into consideration. As a larger umbrella answer, it won’t affect it to dramatically but will play some impact on how it dries. Not sure if that helps at all! LOL.
@@justinhickox that answers it. Lol I normally never pull root area. Well unless doing pony tail. Normally it is dry spray in curl freeze spray and just toss head over and piles it on top scunching to get clip on it. Hot mess look. Honestly most days I just shake my head fix a curl here or there spay with hairspray ( I live in Texas so humidity is factor) and rock my crazy curls. Lol
Thanks but 8 really like to see
What your talking about

thank you so much for curly hair video's. I can not tell you How hard it is for hairdressers to cut-style-shampoo-moisturize, etc. curly hair girls. I am Latin and have light Latina long curls-brown hair- with frizz of course. However, When blown out perfect bounce volume; But when diffused great curls but the hair cut always turnout TRIANGLE. How can i tell my haircutter NOT TO CUT THE DAM HAIR INTO A TRIANGLE?
Just Like that...
Omit Damb
I like the feeling of brushing my hair, so I will sometimes do that before bed. Then in the morning, I can wet it again to re-establish curl. Is there any reason I shouldn't brush it? Will it cause damage? (My hair is not super-curly; it's more wavy, but I try to make it curlier.)
Hi Justin, could you please re-link your favorite budget friendly hair dryer? It is not connecting to the page. I would love to get the Dyson but it is waaaaay too expensive for me! Is it really that much different?
I’ll try to update the link. The Dyson is amazing and definitely worth the price but not necessary for everyone. Thick hair or hair that takes a while to dry..OR for people that want the extras that it has, it makes sense. Otherwise not necessary.
So you’re based in Washington? I am very familiar with that area. My grandparents lived in Randal, my parents live in Morton, I spent every summer growing up picking huckleberries in the mountains and I have family dotted all over Washington. My husband and I live in Eastern Washington where we raised our kids.
LUS hair products are fantastic for curly hair
Any solution to frizz caused by dry air not humidity?
I have a question washing my long curly hair. I am a dog groomer ,I have to deal with dogs that had fleas , dirty dogs that gets in the tub and shake mud everywhere, plus the dirt hair that I'm cutting off the dog is all over me and my hair too. When I get home I have to wash my hair and get all of the Nastius out from that day. So what do you Recommend me to do if washing my hair every day is not good for it.
That's great advice..ttyty
WHAT ABOUT KERATIN TREATMENT? I HAVE FRIZZY, DRY HAIR AND HAIR LOSS.
Your budget blow-dryer link doesn't work. What moisturizing product would you recommend for fine hair that easily frizzes? I would NEVER go in those caves or holes!!!😬
I learned that spraying around tile the hard way…😂😂😂🤣
HAHAH! It's so dangerous! LOL!
I am looking for the names of some products you use to calm frizz on curly hair (shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, etc). My scalp is really oily and when you add night sweats to that, there is no way I can go without washing my hair which is down to my clavicle but naturally dries frizzed up to my chin. I need help.
Quit all silicones in all products if you're not doing that already, that way your hair will get access to the nutrients and conditioning agents in the products. Get rid of all products containing silicones so that you won't be able to use them. If you're new to this you have to wash out all build up silicone first with a deep cleaning shampoo and do it at least twice to get it all out. Then you use a deep conditioner and massage it in and let it stay for like half an hour and then rinse out and repeat if nessesairy. When it's still wet you apply a big amount of leave in conditioner or haircream (not containing silicone) on the length and scrunch it in and leave it to dry. If you want more of a "curly girl" effect you can add a mousse or gel that won't dry out your hair (check the ingredients) and scrunch it in too. Then every time you have to wash your hair, only put shampoo on the scalp and not on the rest of the hair and then use conditioner. Put conditioner on your scalp too, it might help with the oilyness because your scalp might overproduce oils to compensate if it's dry in reality. It helpt me at least, I had oily scalp and don't anymore as long as I keep putting conditioner on my scalp. I have to massage it in to eliminate that. It's just common sense really, you wouldn't wash your face and not put on moisturiser afterwards, would you? The scalp is skin too but people tend to not understand that, and shampoos strip it from all oils, making it produce more oils to compensate. If you want a list of all chemicals to avoid for curly hair you can check curly girl website. It gets easier after a while when you know what to look for. Sorry if you know all this already, I just wanted to help a little🥺
Yes, very informative. I get a perm every 4-5 months because I love the curly look and the versatility curly and setting it or use styling tools. But my hair is dry and frizzy basically at the ends. I use Wen shampoo and hair mask doesn’t seem to help. My hair is chin length. I noticed in your video about using the diffuser that I am manipulating my hair more because it is shorter than your wife’s. Can you use a pice on the curls after it is dry to give is some volume?
Hi, is is the perm that causes dryness or are perms a lot different today? It has been many, many years since I had one, but I do wonder about getting one just for body rather than lots of curls :)
I use a pic underneath my hair to pull out from scalp and give more volume.
You can also use a pool chemical strip to see the PH. 😉
Oh that’s a great idea!!! Thanks for sharing that!
I’d really love a trustworthy person, like yourself, to talk about keratin smoothing & Agave smoothing treatments! I have grey natural thin strand hair. It’s changed to what is now frizzy textured hair. I say textured because it’s just not curly enough to get wave or curl. Frizz is it’s thing. I’ve tried everything known and grey hair is it’s own animal. Please, I don’t want damage so talk about keritan & agave smoothing treatments!
5:55 why the grass moving? 😅
Do u have hair salon
I can't find your video for diffusing hair correctly.
Justin I really believe medicine caused my hair to curl. I had straight hair my whole life, became a diabetic, and my hair curled kinky and dry over my highlighted hair.
That’s totally a thing!! It’s amazing how that can happen!
My three sons all had dead straight hair until about 14 years old. Then it began to kink a bit, and by 20 years old they had very curly hair. Hormones?
I think it is normal that the texture can change through life. I have had all, straight, wavy and curly hair. Curly when I was very little, straight when I was like 10, 11. Wavy when I was 15, 16. Curly and wavy from 23 on. Now I am over 50 and it is wavy and sometimes curly.
As im getting older my straight hair is getting frizzy!! 😐 looks like straw 😨... Whatever product im putting in my hair
Weather conditions kill me…
They're rough for SURE!
