Did you think I'd be able to get curl in her hair??? Be honest! AND HUGE thanks to Skillshare for sponsoring this video! The first 1000 of my subscribers to click on this link will get a FREE TRIAL of Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/justinhickox06211
I thought you would get body. Due to her cut with different layers. To be honest shocked at how much curl was there! 😳😲
@@selmaharwel368 that’s was crazy right! I really didn’t expect to get that much curl!
there wasn't any curl in her hair - it was stick straight and just looked like an uncombed mess
@@wkgeneralwkgeneral527 I’ll have to agree to disagree but that’s ok.
Yes! I had a sneaky suspicion she was actually a wavy! With just a few tweaks she could do to enhance that natural wave even more. After shampooing and conditioning if she used some leave in conditioner on soaking wet hair, brushed through it with a wet brush to distribute and organize, then gently scrunched/squished it - in the curly girl world known as “squish to condish” - I bet it would form some big curl clumps. Then, still in the shower, apply whatever product on soaking wet hair. I know water will dilute product, but it also helps distribute it and wavies seem to do better with wet styling rather than damp styling. Then use a smooth microfiber towel (like the Perfect Haircare towel) and gently gather up a section of clumps and just hold them in the towel for 60-90 seconds, not pulsing or manipulating them, just holding them so the towel can soak up the excess water (“micro-plopping”). THEN start to diffuse. I think you’d be surprised just how much glorious wave is there just waiting to come out!
As someone with true curly hair, one technique I've found to help reduce frizz while I'm diffusing is to shut the dryer off when placing the hair in the diffuser, and again when done with that section of hair. That way, you're not allowing the hair to blow around - at - all. That's what causes the frizz. It takes longer, but it's worth it!
Having naturally curly hair this was great to tweak a couple things that I don't do but should. Realized most of what I'm doing is helpful but I can improve. Thank you!! Love your dog's cameos. Natural in front of the camera
I love your dog demanding attention getting under her sweater! My dog does the same thing!
Thanks so much for this video. I have curly hair and this really helps.
Scrunch the crunch, baby!!!!😂😂😂
You got it!
Not only is this super informative but you two are also so gorgeous together. Thanks so much!
Fabulous result!!!!
Just found your channel and I’m so happy I did! I have fine curly hair and I’ve been diffusing all wrong! No wonder it never turned out good! Thank you!!!!
Justin. I used the technique you described here and hit a home run! I am so pleased with the results! I have used a defused for years but never knew that putting my hands in there and scrunching causes it to frizz… THANK YOU you are the best and I love your videos!
That makes me SO happy to hear!
LOL! I had to re-watch the first part twice. Totally didn't hear anything about product as I was gooing over the Kev
You're a good teacher Justin...very clear.
Learned a lot. Mrs Hickox has fab hair. (OBVIOUSLY). thanks you two x
You’re so welcome! Thank you. I appreciate the feedback.
O.. m... g.. Justin! Just a video I needed... mine was such a fail and I know why, now! Thank you for this timely video! Dianna (hope spelling it correctly) is such a sport! Love her!
I am going to give this a try one more time (now with more understanding and the right technique). Thank you so so much! Love from Charlotte, NC ❤
That’s so awesome! I really can’t wait to hear how it turns out for you. I appreciate the feedback for sure.
That was awesome. She cracks me up. I defuse all wrong 😯! I am so checking out site tonight!
Awesome! I can’t wait to hear how it works for you now.
Awesome! I have superfine wavy/curly hair, always fought it never used it, unless it was Halloween. Lol, the stylists I had gone to never knew how to style my hair. They made a mess of it when they tried. I do own a Dyson supersonic dryer, never used the diffuser. I do have products for curly my type of hair. Thank you bunches!
Awesome video, as usual. You and your wife are just fantastic people. This was an excellent instructional video. I tend to use the "hover diffuse" method as taught by Manes by Mel, which is essentially the first method you showed. Any curlies or wavies out there, her chanel is amazing as well and curly hair centered.
I’m so glad I found you!!!
Your dog is adorable 🥰
Word of today...ADORABLE
And hair dryers definitely make a difference
I've been buying conair 1875 for about 20 years because of diffuser attachment last time had to go on a hunt for it and....when found bought two hahaha but true
Love your videos
Always learning and yesssss skill share made a good choice approaching you it's a WIN WIN
THANK YOU!
My hair is curlier than wavy, and wavier than curly (if that makes sense). Straightening it makes it frizzy. Diffusing it makes it frizzy (until today). Air drying it takes half the day and then when it's finally dry IT'S STILL FRIZZY.
THIS method is far less aggressive than the typical "curly girl" tutorials I see, both in technique and in use of product (layering product and encouraging "clumping" are both disasters on my thick but fine hair). After trying it today, I finally walked out of the bathroom with my natural loose spirals shining and flowing instead of kinking and frizzing!
And, I spent significantly less time and effort on my hair than I usually do.
I have very fine hair, curly at the bottom wavy on top. After I wash and condition my hair. I add a small amount of conditioner to my wet hair and leave it in. Comb it through then scrunch it. It dry naturally with no frizz.
Oh yea! Learned some things. I do not do a good job of diffusing. Other than ending up w/ gigantic, uncontrollably, partially frizzy hair. I will not start at the roots, will keep my other hand out. Breaking it up tips helpful as well. Thank you. Ahhh the gratifying sound & feel of the magnetic attachment click of a Dyson. So love that.
I learned something and your wife is a hoot, love her. xo
That’s awesome! And I definitely won’t argue with you there. She cracks me up.
This guy takes a 5 minute statement and stretches it into a very long boring 13 minutes and then uses a diffuser on straight hair that ends up looking like hay.... sorry
I love the pooch getting in the action!
Perfect timing! I'm watching this video with wet, wavy hair.
AWESOME! Can't wait to hear how it works.
I pretty much do the same thing. I've been drying my hair bent over for years. It really helps when difusing. Sometimes I'll get a hot iron and curl a few pieces to look more 'done'. Another thing I do to make it a little fuller, is go up underneath, shake it just a bit and spray underneath with hairspray. That way, when it starts to fall during the day, you reach underneath and shake a little. 😁💜 Thanks Justin!
Cool, thanks 😊
Thank you Justin for all your hair tips! I wish I could be the curly hair model for a video. I’m also a little older looking to find a good cut.
I think before and after videos are great for demonstration.
Well I live in northeastern USA, so I’m not exactly in the neighborhood lol.
Love your videos, the scenery, the doggies, and your beautiful wife👍🏻
N you're a wonderful teacher ❤️ 😊 💕
I subscribed 😆🙌🏼
Great video Justin… very informative!!!!… Dionnas’ hair looks awesome!!!!!💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you! It’s crazy how much curl she gets right! I did not expect that much.
@@justinhickox I never expected that either, her hair always looks so straight!.
Thank you!
I’ve been using a diffuser for about the past year - it’s a game changer. Like your gorgeous wife I thought my hair was straight - nope! I’ve learned, for me anyway, “pixie diffusing” works great for my looser curl pattern. It’s a variation on what you showed to enhance curl and cut down on frizz. Using a diffuser with a deep bowl (I use the Black Orchid) gather up a section into the diffuser and bring it all the way to the scalp. Don’t turn the blow dryer on until it’s against your scalp. I alternate high speed/low heat (10 seconds) with low speed/medium heat (5-6 seconds) for 90 seconds each section. Turn the dryer off before moving it, gently release and move to the next section. I never use high heat so there’s no need to worry about burning my hair or my scalp. It does take longer to dry, I typically diffuse for about 30 minutes and let it finish air drying, but my hair is in the best condition ever.
Definitely a win!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
I’d say so for sure.
Her hair looks great! So versatile! I just diffused and was saying, “I wonder when Justin is going to cover this”-haha! Thanks for this! Any tips on “pulling the curl out” before diffusing or how to dry the roots first when your hair is only shoulder length when curly?
That’s awesome! Glad I could help at the right time! :-) That’s a great question regarding pulling out the curl. I feel like that’s a whole video in and of itself. Great idea. I appreciate that.
Ditto on the above question! I just asked it myself..
😎
66 year old Curly Girl here. Having checked out the Curly Girl method, I started doing a lot of what is recommended, but I still have issues. I've also let it go grey from a light golden blonde, been about 3 years now. Ugly shades of grey, very yellow (I think it still looks blonde in house light), so I've been looking at your videos for that, too. Anyway, when I was using my blow dryer (air dry now), I used my diffuser without fail. But apparently, I was not doing it the way you demonstrated here. Since I stopped using the dryer, though, it has gotten somewhat better. And finding the right products to define and moisturize my curls was a trick, but I've got some that work pretty well, though it still gets very dry looking and frizzy by the end of the week (shampoo and deep condition once a week). I use a curl cream and a gel after a little leave in conditioner and jojoba oil. The top layers are growing out so I'm having trouble getting the height and volume the shorter layers used to give me. I'm in the process of collecting the hair that comes out from combing (night before shampoo) to make a hair rat so I can put it on top and cover it with my hair and it will disappear underneath as it's the same color while giving me the height and volume I really need to balance out my face! Anyway, what I wanted to say is that when I scrunch the curl cream and gel, I use an old silk pillowcase and/or silk gloves. I can manipulate and touch it as much as I want and it won't frizz up. I use a pick most of the time to lift at the roots and don't comb it until the night before shampooing. But, of course, I will touch it with bare hands sometimes and that will bring the frizz right back. I really try not to, but sometimes it's unavoidable. I also sleep in a satin cap and have a silk pillowcase on my pillow, that cuts down on the frizz, too. Could tell you a lot more of what I do, but this is already too long and the "more" is not relevant to curly hair, as I do straighten it with curlers, but that's for another video comment!😉
You and your wife are Lovely! I've been enjoying your hikes and tips/mistakes videos! Very nice. But I have to say, your wife's hair did not get very curly in this video. Maybe a little wavy, but that's about it. But I know you know that! 😉
I LOVE the dog!!!
Can’t argue with you there! He’s pretty amazing. We feel pretty lucky for sure.
Haven't watched the video yet but how do you always know what I am thinking... so timely video as I JUST this past weekend tried to use the diffuser from my hair dryer!
That’s awesome! I hope it helps. Can’t wait to hear what you think.
This was fun And informative. Thank you!
Thank you! So glad you liked it!
Great tips as always.Miss the out an about adventures.
I definitely can’t argue there. I love the adventure videos as well! There will definitely be more of those coming. :-)
So helpful!! Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos! Thanku for making them so enjoyable!
I almost couldn’t pay attention because of your big beautiful sweet doggo. 🧡
Thanks for this video!! I have been diffusing wrong from day 1. Plus, your wife is a good sport and beautiful! I saw her on another video and wondered why she seemed bored? Now, I know..how many videos do you ask her to do!!! LOl...
I love it
Love your channel, love you guys! #nofailshere
That was a very good and informative video.😀
Thank you! I’m so glad I could help in that you liked it. I appreciate the feedback.
I have curly hair, use a light weight curl cream AND LOVE MY DIFFUSER❤ With finishing my hair this way I’m out the door very quickly!
Here is my guy!!!!💜💜💜
Hey!!! Great to see ya here again Linda!
@@justinhickox always here!.. never leaving!💜💜💜💜💜
I appreciate that!!
Oooo..you have!!!!
Thank you Justin! I always enjoy your “how to videos” and your wealth of experience! I love a mouse for the distribution ease and tried some gels but they were heavy and crunchy . I’ve had wavy curly hair forever and gave up the struggle to style it in a very unnatural way, straight! I live in Charlotte and humidity is the way of life here. I am always trying a new mouse or “no frizz” leave in Product, They only seem to work when you blow dry straight. Any suggestions on a light gel? I use Sebastians whipped mouse, I’ve used for years,so hydrating but not a lot of style grip so I mix with another “strong hold” mouse. I have past shoulder length, different wave texture patterns and 57 years old. Thank you for giving me a new perspective on gel and I will go back the the defused and try your technique! Please post when find a good gel for wavy, long hair. What is the hair dryer you posted? I couldn’t pull up the hairdryer You posted on Amazon, was that a con air someone said in a comment? I love your videos and your wife is adorable, such a cute team!!
Stephanie, It sounds like I have similar curly hair and I have found Deva Curl Coconut Curl Cream works well for my hair. I let it air dry as I don’t have a diffuser (it’s on my Christmas wish list) and then break it up when dry. Hold a the curl but still doesn’t stop frizz but definitely minimizes it.
Can you recommend products for curly hair?
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this Justin ..from a 68 yo curly haired lady (still looking for a hairdresser who gets it)
I've got issues! My hair is very soft and goes flat easily. Also if it's not layered very short at the crown it parts crooked and goes flat. Next is my hair has a tendency to go forward so I can't seem to give up my bangs. I feel a bit stuck in the 80's/ 90's but growing it out or straightening it makes me look awful. I look better with full hair.
If anyone can help me it's got to be you! I'm so glad I've found your channel!
What "drugstore" product do you recommend?
Thank you for any advice.
You look so much more youthful on your videos versus your headshot for your channel! Both are great! But the dude on the channel “don’t” match the pic ;)
You rock. Thanks for your content! - Atlanta
Thank you!! I really appreciate that! I’m SO bad at headshots. I feel fine on videos but HATE getting photos taken! Lol! Makes sense right! Hahaha
I will try this. :)
Fantastic! Can’t wait to hear how it works.
Wow..tyty
Thanks for this!
How do I pull the curl out first? With a brush? Would have liked to c u demonstrate that part.
Also, doesn't the air from diffuser frizz it even if you're holding it away?? And how wud I get the roots first??
Curly-girl issues...never easy! 😒😎
I would like to know what products you recommend for curly hair.
Justin, thank you. When I diffuse I am wanting to just dry it (not looking to enhance curl). Should I be looking for a deeper bowl in the diffuser or not?
Great question! You wouldn’t need a deeper bowl but it also wouldn’t hurt you to have one. It won’t get in your way but will allow you to enhance curl should you decide you want to in the future.
woo hoo found it. 👍Never tried a diffuser hmm 🤔
Justin,,what is the product you put in your wifes hair before she used the diffuser? I am going to try your technique as i have cury/wavy hair but it frizzes at the ends, which is why i usually dry it straight. But hopefully with this technique i can let it go natural...thanks :) Judy
Is it best to use gel or mousse?
I have 2 settings on my dryer: 1 for temp (hot vs warm), and 1 for velocity (high vs low). When I diffuse, I tend to set it on hot/low. Is this correct?
In case you need to know: I have wavy hair that I want to make curly; there is a LOT of hair which is medium texture, but the gray hairs are more coarse (maybe 25% or 30% of my hair is gray); my hair is short (about 3-4"?).
You two are so cute 😊
Hi what product did you use? The link appears to be broken. Thank you so much.
Awesome tips ! However she would look gorgeous with a crew cut ♥️
Your wife is a beautiful lady ❤ love your channel ❤
Can you please do a video on curly long hair cuts and highlights for round race
Do you have a video on fringes (I think you call them bangs)? Mine looks like a curtain (dreadful) - is there a way I can feather it please? Thank you.
My hair is curly, but very thin, so I definitely need volume. It’s past my shoulders now, not like the picture, and if I did not have texture that comes from curly grey hair, I would not be able to wear it this long. I usually air dry
I totally hear you! The volume will absolutely come from product usage and layering for sure.
What product did you use in her hair before starting ? I can't find one that works
My hair is wavy/ little curl and every time I defuse I get Lots of frizz. Mainly on the top. Any suggestions I didn’t understand now to avoid frizz. I would greatly appreciate help!
I work in healthcare and I have to wear the PAPR HOOD with the CONSTANT air FLOW. The combination of MENOPAUSE a d this situation I have at work, I feel my hair is really dehydrated. What should I do?
I need to know what type of products to use.
What kind of product would I use on my hair, for this process? I have no idea.
I wish I could but that $600 blow dryer... However... Do you have a second choice option that is less expensive that you could recommend?
Do you have a demo on already curly hair?
Since a hairdryer exploded in my hand I tend to buy a new one every 12 months -- and the first thing I do is throw away the diffuser. Kicking myself now !!
What’s the name of the product you use to decrease frizz? Live in Florida❤️
I guess he doesn’t want to tell us
I have wavy hair but heat makes it fly away. And have gray which is unmanageable. Frustrated with my hair, maybe a defused will help.
Thank you. I hope you do more on curly hair tips n tricks.
Definitely have more coming! :) anything specific you’d like to see?
@@justinhickox can't think of anything specific right now. Thank you.
Then how do I get lift at the crown?
Ignore my question of 4 days ago on BANGS -- I found the video.
Oh ja!!!!!
Justin, did you find a new source for your product? I saw it, so am hoping...
I wish! Not yet BUT, there is something in the works...likely won’t be fully tested and on to market until end of year. It’s got to be right!
What product did you use when the hair was wet for curl?
SCRUNCH water from your hair when wet too. and when adding mousse. Light oil gently smoothed for finish.
Which product was used in your wife's hair to create the curls in this video please?
Justin your wife is so beautiful!
No, makes me hopeful for mine except that I cut it all off a couple of weeks ago. 🤦🏻♀️
Glad to hear that it’s going to help you in the future when it grows out! :-)
I don't see curls, only waves. But se looks very beautiful 😀
You have a Bernese with beautiful wavy curly hair as well as a wife 😂
LOL! I'll say this, if my wife shed as much as our Berner, we'd be in TROUBLE! LOL! :)
Kevin is so adorable! Definitely a huge part of your family ❤️
Thank you! He’s a HUGE (literally and figuratively) part of our family! 😂
Will you give me a hair make over?
wait so why is ali abdaal on in the background?!
No curls, just like to watch your videos
You didn't specify what kind of product was used - looked like mousse? What about gel for curly hair?
I used a gel mousse. Rule of thumb, gel tends to get more control over frizz but also is harder to break up and can leave the hair more crunchy when dry. Mousse is softer but gets less control.
@@justinhickox Thank you! Do you have a brand you like? I have both gel and mousse but not one combined. And please do a video for how to diffuse curly medium/short hair.
Also - any suggestions on how to refresh 2nd and 3rd day curly hair?
I don’t have a product or line specifically right now that I love. My favorite curly product JUST got discontinued a few weeks ago so I’m currently on the hunt. As for the techniques for drying medium or short hair, after you shape it (prior to drying it) the techniques are exactly the same.
Definitely a video I want to make. Thanks for the suggestion!
Curly hair is a struggle. This video has zero answers. The quest continues.
Is it important to have a dog helper
Why would he use a model who DOESNT HAVE curly hair???
Wow! This is just like watching a video teaching you how to use suntan lotion to get super dark skin using an African American model!!! Thanks for wasting my time! NOW, can we please have a video with someone who ACTUALLY has curly hair??? If you don't know anyone, with all your sponsors I'm sure you could afford to hire someone 😡!
Is that what you call curly hair 🙄😢
Obviously there are different variations of “curly hair”. Did the tips I shared on the video not pertain to all curl patterns?
@@justinhickox I'm Hispanic so my hair is definitely thicker and more puffy & wavy/curly
I know that hair texture very well. I’ve worked on a ton of it behind the chair over the past 26 years. Is there something specific you are struggling with? Maybe I can shed some light on it for ya.
@@justinhickox puffy big hair, now I'm growing out a pixie and stopped coloring my hair. But my hair grows up before it goes down. Lol.... can I blow dry gray hair or will it turn yellow? Thank you..... I don't have kinky hair just big hair
