- My camshaft ledge bearings have gone out! Unfortunately I've tried everything to make sure that this wasn't the case, but it looks like I'll be taking my engine apart very soon.

i need help, i cleaned vanos and replaced cam sensor. i have these two codes. 3100, 2a9f. my car experienced this and went in limp mode after my car stopped charging and had voltage as low as 8 amps. could these codes be from bad voltage? or are my cam ledges most likely bad
What was it exactly that showed you that it was cam ledges? I'm having this issue right now with my 2011 335is. I'm getting the VANOS intake code. Mine is a little different as far when I'm getting the code though. I don't get it on start up but it only happens at low RPM's. The weird thing is there is two different places on my drive to work where it happens at pretty much every day. One is a left turn onto a road and if it doesn't get triggered there it will do it at the next spot which is at a stop sign where I turn left and start going up a hill. So far I haven't had any luck getting it resolved. I've replaced the VANOS intake solenoid and checked my oil cap and everything is good there. Next step is cleaning those check valves but I'm not confident that's going to fix it. If it doesn't then I don't even know what to look at next?
LMFAO I had 2 2011 335is one was totalled and getting these codes to and the current one to. Exactly like you my intake vanos code comes on when accelerating but very softly and in low RPMs. Did yours get it resolved? I checked solenoids, check valves and oil cap filter and all checks out about to do the bearing ledge. If you had to do your bearing ledge then 100% must be this for me let me know if you can thanks
335xi n54 i got this engine ligtt but it went away when i got home i had just reccently done the oil filter housing filter scanned it and nothing came up ??
I changed my Vanos and now I got code 2 a7a
WARNING: did this (actually finally tapped in a pro on this one). Had him provide old ledges. While there was slight wear, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS!
Yes, did factory solenoids first. Did also have oil filter housing leak, so also replaced housing gasket. Replaced cam sensors. Took it to another pro. He saying Cam Gear Actuator, or it's that ALL lines clogged.
I wonder about the vanos screens, which aren't solenoids but 2 little sink-faucet filter like screens on the passenger-side, bottom of the engine block toward front.
was your oil glistening when you did your oil change?
I was worried about that, but it came out dark. Pretty stoked about it
I have codes 2A98 and 2A99 but my car has trouble starting though .. could it be just a timing issue?
You need to replace it and the more you turn it on the more damage it does. It will not turn on anymore after a while don’t damage it
@@kakak3762 yeah man it did damage my timing chain
@@boost7236 what happened did you end up fixing it ? Do you still drive it ?
@@kakak3762 well I started having this issue with codes 2a98 and 2a99 along with limp mode 3100 and the car ran like crap , I took off the valve cover and saw that my timing was off and also my chain broke , so now I have to replace my whole timing chain
@@kakak3762 also probably just going to also do the cam ledges since I’m already there
Dude I owned my 335is not but 12hours took my dad home not jackassing at all and it left me stranded after Avery violent coarse to limp mode trans failure cam sensor maybe .
Question- what oil weight do you use?
5W-40 Liqui Moly
@@BuiltInTheRain thank you 👍 I also have an 09 throwing random 2a7c and 2a7a. Post an update one you figure it out! Thanks again
@@mcdoob JUST finished the Cam ledges and it runs perfectly. Making a video on it when I finish my work week.
@@BuiltInTheRain hell ya thanks man
Mi too 2a7a. 2a7c 3100
Sigh...i think i might be experiencing this issue. Didn’t even get to try out my intake manifold with port injection, aic, and e sensor before I started experiencing severe misfires with the vanos code. Fingers crossed it’s just bad solenoids but I don’t know that I’ll be that lucky
try from the cheapest fixes and climb up. Could be as simple as your oil filter cap!
CHECK YOUR OIL FILTER
Damn i have the same 2a7a code often
doesnt get any better 🤕
@@BuiltInTheRain I just bought cam sensors from fcp hope that cures it. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@wildog0987 i'll keep my fingers crossed for you man, doing all this sucks
Got 2a82, 3100, 2aaf codes... IT WAS THE FUCKING MISSING basket daaang FIXED!
What is that ?
