Thank you for your help in explaining the symptoms of this trouble. Well done video! A couple of things to note. The S54 doesn't use those solenoids. As well BMW doesn't Use "P" codes. I have an 08 550i with n62 engine, i believe i have the same problem. On my car, it only happens if the car has been parked overnight with temp dropping below 40F, it will misfire until the engine warms up and then no issues after that. I've changed coils and spark plugs and didn't fix the issue. This morning, i disconnected the vanos before starting up and sue enough no misfire and no rough idle. I will clean them first before replacing, great video, Thanks.
The number one cause of rough idle and vanos codes in BMW is the vanos cage missing from the oil filter because it was thrown away with the old oil filter, the second is low oil and clogged vanos. If you find black fiberous stuff on one of them, your car sucked a serpentine belt at one point and the cams are probably damaged as well or the cam vanos stuck.

Vaico had a ton of quality issues - we used to sell a ton of them but ended up having some big quality control issues so wouldn't recommend them anymore. Gates is solid quality
@@8020Media awesome, thanks!
2006 330i n52, idle is jumping little bit, sometimes shakes after start for bit, here is what is done
1. changed spark plugs and ignition coils
2. cleaned throttle body
3. cleaned check valves
4 just changed vanos solenoids as well.
No Vaccum leaks
car runs fine but idle issue not going away, what could be the issue?
Two questions: Do you have a CEL? How many miles?
@@8020Media no CEL, 81k
Same thing’s happening to my 2007 120i. Does your car misfire when stopping then taking off?
Sounds like a rough idle. We have a video dedicated to this that we think will assist: ruclips.net/video/BiYsqRJCLhE/видео.html
Keep us updated.
Fuel pressure ? Koeo and when accelerated ?
Maybe idle air control valve stuck , leaking intake gaskets ( same as vaccum leak ), throttle position sensor ..plugged egr ...just a couple more things to check@@Kxoxo-x
I have a p30ff code that nobody can figure out. I've taken the car to 3 shops and they can't find any boost leak.
N - Maybe this thread will be helpful: www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1182425
Great video many thanks.
P - Thanks for the feedback! We hope it was helpful.
I just watched a video where the guy spent $3 on brake cleaner to clean them and some compressed air and they were fine.
R - We specify cleaning them before replacing them. We always advise this.
gr8 info thnx ..... cheers.
J - Thanks for the feedback. We hope it helps!
Long start?
V - Possible symptom for sure.
Hey there! After replacing spark plugs, coils and injectors i came across this solenoit variation between target vs actual position and i was able to replace the two eletrical vanos actuators on my Mini Cooper S F56 B48 engine. I noticed some slight improvements but the variatons still persist, specially at constant light acceleration.
Would you say that if i was able to remove the eletrical actuator i could also try and extract/replace the VANOS central valve aswell? If yes what would be the ttool?
S - Certainly could! What engine codes are you getting?
@@8020Media I get no error codes. Logging the data I see variations between the target VANOS vs actual with differences of up to 10º, mainly on the exhaust one. Like I said I already changed the two actuators but I’m a bit scared to remove the central valves themselves, I don’t know if it changes anything with the timing or something like that
S - What drivability issues are you getting?
@@8020Media jittering acceleration on constant light throttle application. After trying to replace Vanos actuators myself I just noticed my 2014 copper S has 2017 components so I’m thinking the car never went a full calibration process
S - Certainly possible! Keep us updated.
Does n43 have that too?
M - Yes.
I cleaned mine’s to get me thru till my part came in from 1aauto
D- Great idea!
informative! thanks alotw
S - Thanks for the feedback! We hope it helped.
Hey, also, I have to admit I used the cheap Chinese crap solenoids and now I'm changing them to Pierburg..yes it's throwing crazy codes..!! My fault..SO DON'T DO WHAT I DID..!!😆😆
N - Haha. Unfortunately, get what you pay for. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@8020Media misfire cyl 4 and 5 and nox sensor heating
These are definitely a part you want to get OEM 😂 thanks test piggy
Seems like adding a cleaning agent to oil before changing to help remove sludge….would be wise just for the solenoids
M - Certainly could be!
Go oem solenoid 2nd best febi
C - Thanks for the insight here.
Don't foget N63
N - Thanks for sharing!
And N53, we’re always left out :(
M - Sorry
