    Honestly, this was the best legacy of Kain game for me. The levels were amazing and so unreal. It was nice to navigate through the cities with humans, and the inclusion of the hylden was fantastic.

      Same here. I was 13y old, and I spent hours completing the game, I felt tired I made an hour break, then continued. Loved the game, JudgeMathas may had a point on the combos, yeah aside Batman Arham series the combos were not much, but back then in the 2000s, it was a super game. Altough I would play it anytime. :)

    Spoilers (for ending of Soul Reaver 2):
    At the end of SR2, The Reaver show itself to have a will of its own and tries to consume Raziel. The Reaver is destinied to eat Raziel. Kain shows up and talks about flipping a coin a thousand times and no matter which side it lands on it's always bad... but what if you could make it land on its edge? He pulls the Reaver out of Raziel... thus altering The fate of the Reaver (and Raziel).. and yet again changing the timeline. He then gains the memories of this new timeline and proclaims: "My God! The Hylden! We walked right into their trap!"
    Blood Omen 2 is that memory.

      I mean Amy tried her hardest to make sense of Blood Omen 2 but still it leaves some holes, like how the Hylden Lord was sure he killed Young Kain when he saw Raziel kill the older Kain

    • @bloodfang6611
      @bloodfang6611 6 лет назад +1

      Jake Lancaster Belmont because our Kain, even though he gained new memories from BO2, is still a time anomaly: unlike William, killing young Kain would just kill young Kain. Our Kain, the SR1 Kain, would still be around as he is from another timeline.

    • @WisteriaNerium
      @WisteriaNerium 6 лет назад +1

      Bloodfang that's not how it works, there's only one timeline that can only be changed with paradoxes, killing Young Kain would cause a fatal paradox and would definitely kill the older Kain.
      The Hylden Lord acknowledges that Kain was murdered by Raziel when he calls them the Scion of Balance, he would have known killing him in Blood Omen 2 would have been fruitless because for him, Kain dies when he's older.
      You could make the case he was trying to make a paradox with the reaver and that would be a good plot point but I don't think the Blood Omen 2 team was that clever

    • @gilgamesh310

      That's because IT IS the best game in the series, best combat, best boss fights, best fucking camera mind you, the story is great I don't see what the fuck people find wrong with it, perhaps its just their incapability of appreciating a great game that blinds them.

    The worlds in the two Blood Omen games are far more alive than in the rest of the series. In the dead Nosgoth in the first Soul Reaver it makes sense that every living thing is hostile but in SR2 and even more so Defiance the world can feel a bit empty, I guess no one is gonna stop for a chat based on how Kain and Raziel look.

    This game was truly my first introduction to the Legacy of Kain games. I loved it when I was a kid, although it was one of the only games I had on the Gamecube, so I played it a lot. When I tried Defiance on the Xbox, I fell in love with the story telling style, but never completed it, I got stuck on a level and never came back, (it didn't help the Xbox wasn't mine, and I didn't have access to it often.) But my love for the narration in the games sparked my interest in writing, and many years later, I'm still writing my own stories. Legacy of Kain holds a special place in my heart, even if I never really played them. (One of my biggest regrets that I will hopefully, rectify soon enough.)

      "Ressurection". Off-scene ressurection.
      On the other hand, Elder Kain "can't die at all" from "normal" means (which I find somewhat questionable).

  • @benjamincooper745
    @benjamincooper745 6 лет назад +11

    Technically, Amy Hennig did work "Blood Omen 2"s story into the overarching lore of the series with "Defiance". The timeline of "BO2" was created by Kain's prevention of Raziel's absorption by the Reaver at the end of the game. Kain's revelation in the epilogue is him remembering the events of "BO2" - which were just incorporated into his background. That was the fourth timeline present within the Series. I won't spoil the events of "Defiance" but "BO2"s narrative has a close connection to the final act "Defiance".

      1) "Janos Audron must stay dead" - Defiance, Elder Kain.
      2) Knowing that you will "save him" from device - BO2, Young Kain.
      Nice.
      It is either a plothole or non-realized plotline.

    This is my first legacy of kain game, playing it on the original xbox. Had to check the series out after seeing defiance at a game store and thinking the name and look of it were pretty cool so I looked up the games and found out they have a dedicated fan base of people that really like them so I decided to try them. I’m probably a quarter of the way through and I have to say the combat with it’s parrying system is pretty challenging and satisfying especially for such an old game. I also haven’t gotten tired of the blood sucking animation yet since it looks so damn cool, doesn’t take too much time and is necessary to fill your health. Now I understand that the first legacy of kain game probably had the best story and narrative and that is what makes the games and that is why I wanted to try them in the first place but I don’t have a ps1 or dreamcast so I have to start with blood omen 2, then soul reaver 2 and then defiance. I watched like a whole synopsis video of 1’s story and it was great and wish I could play it but i’ll see where blood omen 2 goes, it’s obviously much more shallow than the first game’s and soul reaver 1 but I love kain’s design and voice actor, as well as the combat so hopefully it is worth finishing as well as soul reaver 2 and defiance although I hear a lot of hate about defiance. Apparently it is a poor man’s dmc lol. I don’t care i’ll play them for myself and see if I like them. I love the whole vampire ruled fantasy world and kain’s character, all really cool stuff to me. Oh and you are right about the puzzles they are all the same and totally lame, just pulling levers or pushing a box forward like 4 feet lol.

Kain's life bar got maxed out, so with the next blood feast that was supposed to level Kain up , it actually zeroed his life bar. Now that was a suprise no one would expect.

    Well the context is that it shows what happened with the paradox at the end of Soul Reaver 2. It's only different because the Hylden have taken over and it shows off what the Hylden are like and fleshes them out in a way that I thought was very welcome.
    But yeah it did have a lot of flaws to it as well. But I feel like the things that make the game out of place in theme also make perfect sense in the context of the story.

    The very best thing about the game is when a power up is a reference to the original game. The mist and the possession being the two I can think of. (Maybe the jump power replaced the jump length of the werewolf form.) Those were really cool, and involved some of my favorite puzzles in the game.

  • @SefniAsheforr

    I actually like this game because it gives a sort of final resolution to the series. From what I can tell, this entire story was created by Defiance, with the Pillars being destroyed, the Hylden lord escaping, and a new enemy for young Kain to fight. It all makes sense to me, as Old Kain fills his role as the Scion of Balance by using the Reaver that has absorbed Raziel and all of the other Balance Guardians, which allows him to finally see the Elder God and remove the corruption. And Young Kain fights the now released Hylden (which were released quickly after the events of Blood Omen 1, which I qualify with the fact that Kain reflects on his younger self making the decision to abandon his role as Balance guardian at the end of BO1 towards the end of Defiance when he enters Raziel's timeline), finally eliminating them, as they were trapped by the Pillars before. The Hylden Lord escaping with Janos' body is what created this situation, and this game concludes that.

    Simon Templeman's performance was basically the only thing that kept me going through Blood Omen 2. The writing was so weak compared to the other games but I respected that he still gave those lines a decent shot.
    It's been a while since I played so my memories are a foggy but I remember being pretty disappointed by the big Hylden reveal. If they had taken the time to develop any memorable Hylden characters with similar care that was taken in the previous games with earlier characters I might have been convinced. It's really unfortunate since the Hylden are supposed to be so important and yet they're not really explored or developed much at all.

    I disagree that the voice acting isn’t good in this. Vorador and Janos Audron’s voice actors perform about as good as before. I’d say Uma’s is good as well. The dialogue is weaker, though. I also disagree that what happens isn’t important. In many ways, the ending to this game is the ending to the series. Or at least the closest it’s come to one. You kill the Hylden lord who was a key figure in Defiance that operated behind the scenes. Defiance and this game are set in the fourth and final timeline, and the events of Defiance are actually set before this.

    You said it should have been an original I.P. well alot of the developers in Blood Omen 2 where working on Sega Dreamcast version of Chakan, a follow up to Chakan: The Forever Man on the Sega Genesis. Unfortunately it was cancelled due to the failure and short life span of the Dreamcast, if you look at the history of Chakan on the Dreamcast and its concept art, you will it looks very similar to Blood Omen 2, it would have been better if they would have done that instead of shoe-horning a Legacy of Kain game in to it.

I will have to dislike this video. Your 50 different baby voices confirms this. It seems this is only about critique and no constructive though or any appreciation for the beautiful world and amazing details. Another cautionary tale about _not_ putting your B-Team on a popular series sequel (Silent Hill, Dark Souls.. looking at you!)
    In answer to your question Mathas, *Battle Arena Toshinden.* I bought every game in the series and can't remember a thing about it.

    The problem with Blood Omen 2 other than it was developed by another team is the fact is a clunky mash of two canceled games (Chakan and Sirens), that's why is so far apart from the other games.

    I like blood omen 2 at the same time I hated it, The game wasn't polished enough needed more work, the movement was very stiff and the combat terrible, the art work gross! but the there were other parts I liked

    I've played a lot of forgettable games (good ol' C=64 times) but my most memorable one (is that even a thing?) is definitely Silver. A friend of mine lent it to me saying that it was supposedly a "Final Fantasy killer". FF being one of my favorite series of all time, I was quite eager to give Silver a go. Well, a killer game it wasn't. I played through it in one sitting and pretty much forgot everything about it by the end of the day.

      Yeah well what do you expect when it’s coming from a vampire? Do you want her to say hold “B” or hold “Right Trigger” ? That doesn’t sound very vampirish to me.. that would be silly. They put the buttons on the screen to show you what to press after she says it so it’s not like they don’t show you what to press.

    • @MrStatistx
      @MrStatistx 2 года назад

      @@stevenvargas4800 yeah, if it's a tutorial that says "hold... To..." they might as well, cause it's still silly in terms of immersion

    I only ever played this game in the blood omen/soul reaver, and that may paint my opinion but I loved this game, and nearly disagree with everything that mathas says besides the blood animations. I loved the story the combat and looking at it from the time it came out I think it was fantastic.

    Unless I'm mistaken, isn't this the first 3D game in the series? Makes sense why they'd play it safe and story and plot would be unoriginal

    • @Zeburaman2005
      @Zeburaman2005 5 лет назад

      Nope, it's the third 3D game in the series and its story is laughably simple, whereas all other games have a story that can be rightfully called shakespearian. But it was also made by another developer and started as a sequel to the Genesis game Chakan: The Forever Man.

    From Industrial Quarter on, (Canyons, Eternal Prison, and the Device)levels all have some interesting puzzles (involving explosions and time manipulation) that combine the powers you end up receiving.
    I also quite dug some of the NPC conversations, if you actually snuck around to eavesdrop. They do some interesting world-building there, but there`s like 0 focus on that.
    It has a few interesting ideas, and having replayed it last year, the Device is some really Gigeresque stuff; but lack of a story really hurts it. It`s still the weakest in the series, but ionno. I`m really not a fan of Soul Reaver 2`s corridor design after SR21 and that combat was.... ugh. So BO2 always gains some points by gameplay comparison from me. SR2 has the spectacular STORY though, which is what LoK is really all about, so that always wins out.
    It`s always hard talking about LoK`s gameplay, because every single game does something different. Darksiders was the dark Gothic action/adventure series that really filled that niche when LoK went away, and there hasn't really been anything like it since.

  • @Mr.Bowling
    @Mr.Bowling 6 лет назад +12

    I found Skyrim forgettable. The game was so bland and casual compared to Morrowind which was simply an excellent Roleplaying Game. I cant even remember the Skyrim story, nor can I remember anything interesting. Sure, being dragonborn was 'cool', but The game was so flat and boring, so generic that it kinda hurt to play. That's pretty much all I can remember of it, whereas with Morrowind I could go on for hours and hours.

    Dark Cloud 2. I remember the first game dearly. I still count it among my favorite games. All I remember of 2 though is something about fighting on top of a train and disappointment. I'm not even sure I finished it...
