One of my favourite scenes is the wharves chapter when they're like "we have to be inconspicuous!" and Kain shows up in 2ft tall shoulder spikes. 😂 But I assume the point is that he still has the Disguise form from the first game.
Blood Omen 2 great game. I just like how people talk to each other, lots of conversations. The levels are good, especially canyons waterfall meditation. 👍👍🧛🧛
This game was my introduction to the Legacy of Kain franchise. It was amazing and so different from any other games I had played. I will never not love it. This is also the game I tend to use to introduce others to the franchise. I figure if I can get them to enjoy the worst game in the franchise first, then the rest will blow minds.
There's still plenty to love even if it is very rough around the edges. So yeah , I guess if people can get into this one then the rest will be a hell of a step up.
I tried the other games in the series. I hated them. Too hard to enjoy the alledgedly 'better' story in the others Blood Omen 2 is the only one I finished.
The combat is literally this: Block, block, block Strike, strike, strike Block, block, block Strike *SUCK BLOOD FOR A SOLID 45 SECONDS* Because it'll take 4 hits to kill enemies but you can only get attacks off in 3s for some reason.
I low key really like blood omen 2. I mean is it my favorite of the games.. no but that has less to do with the game but more to do with razel being my favorite character of the series so prefer his games. But i dont think blood omen 2 is that bad in fact my only real problem with it is i have a lot of trouble placing it. I know it is supposed to be what kain sees in his memories after the 3rd paradox. But things like janos and vorador being a live confuse me
Sebastian was the best. 😂 The voice actor gave 120% to make him sounds as bored and derisive as possible in every line, only to act like a toddler on a sugar rush during the fight.
BO2 has its (many, *many*) issues, mainly the hot topic-ness of it all, but I've always found it oddly enjoyable. You have to love a protagonist as unapologetically awful as Kain is, and maybe half by accident, I do think the game does a good job of fleshing out his character. So much that I think people are missing out on understanding him by skipping the game. Though BO2, we can understand the change he went through between the first game and Soul Reaver. I even like Umah and the way she (rightly) points out that Kain's a megalomaniac with world domination on the mind and there's no room for anyone else in his future. It re-contextualizes how all the other lieutenants left him on the eve of battle the first time around. Perhaps despite itself, it shows us Kain's selfishness, his lack of trust in others, and above all, his loneliness. Like Defiance, the game ends with him standing alone, less than satisfied, and the world in ruins around him, but the message is very different. Also, the way you can get distracted by listening to the citizens debate theatre makes Meridian one of the best game cities ever. 😂

Regarding your comments on Uma's character design... yeah, early 2000s delivered some of my most favourite action games, which admittedly had pretty cringy female character design... This, Tavion in Jedi Outcast and the pirate leader in the beginning of Prince of Persia: WW come to mind. In general the vampire outfits here remind me of the Key and Peele: Sexy vampires sketch. Good job on the video, I like your in depth analysis and passion for these games
The random sexism in the character design really stands out. And the way every female enemy you fight runs away in fear. 🙄All the more disappointing because the women in Blood Omen were the first in line to stab you! But yeah, it's a relief that we're (mostly) past the age of bikini armour.
Best part about the plot: we're supposed to believe that the Sarafan Lord is just a regular human. You're telling me the 9 ft. tall, demonic voiced, green fire hair guy is just a regular old human? Sure he is bud, sure.
I'm torn between thinking the camp aesthetic is creative genius or just bad at times. It certainly doesn't match the rest of the series. The game has it's charm but is lacking in places.
@@arkham666 I agree with you about the environments being great, but all the character models except Kain look like they're missing some things. Like textures. Kain's entire body is perfectly textured, and detailed. The rest of the enemies and NPCs? They look like there's a Vaseline smear everywhere on the screen except Kain. It gives the impression that Kain is a little far sighted. lol
Im glad for this video. I'm a longtime huge fan of Legacy of Kain and for years now i yearned to get back to Nosgoth. What i realized was that i really really wanted to visit Meridian again. BO2 is just filled with great atmosphere and fairly fun gameplay. Defiance does it all a bit better, but this game, even over the original, just makes me happy when I'm playing it...
Blood Omen 2 would've been so much better, if the first 5 hours wasn't full of tutorials and dull cutscenes that were basically also the tutorial. If it just skipped all that pace stopping stuff, I'd love it! As is, I still love it once it opens up a bit and stops pausing the gameplay every 2 minutes.

I definitely think you'll like the manual blocking for the late game! It honestly makes the combat that much better. Even In early game you can kinda feel it. But middle to late game, it makes it actually fun and kinda tense tryna time the blocks. Versus, holding 1 button for 5 to 10 seconds then pressing 1 button to kill.
Catching this banger of a review late dayum, never expected such a small channel to make this good and funny of a review, awesome job. I love kain, this particular game is all about "BIG BAD ASS KAIN" so it's enjoyable for kain fan boys like me I guess xd. It falls about a lot though, I am not even talking about the series, even if we were to look at the individual qualities of the other 4 games in the series they were much better compared to this. One thing I want to say is that perhaps you don't know that after grabbing enemies, you can do a continuous lmb hold for 3-4 seconds or lesser, kain will impale the shit out of enemies and like, if you were attacking enemies normally they rise up about three times, mostly the armor clad soldiers, you can finish them in two such blows, makes it a bit efficient amd cool I guess unlike my explanation.

You can perform an execution to a tired/injured enemy after grabbing them by pressing Up and attack, each type of weapon does a different finishing move like beheading - pearcing - stabbing, great video btw.
Despite all these things about the plot and other things, i played this game when i wasn't searching about it and i was interested about Kain story more than Raziel in both Soul Reavers and Blood Omen beeing my most beloved game in Legacy of Kain i also liked Blood Omen 2 only then when i started to learn about other Legacy of Kain games Blood Omen 2 was the weakest among all of them,but despite beeing the weakest/ in some parts of plot "weird"/not greatest combat system with skills which Kain obtain and boss fights/but i still love this game and interesting enough that this game was supposed to be way better than the final product and development was very difficult, and even though its a bit unfinished i love this game and mostly enjoy Kain story more than Razie,great video,sorry for wall of text,Vae Victus!🤘
I forgot to say 3 important things. 1: You don't have to drink blood to increase your lifebar. The lifebar increases on it's own as you move from one chapter to another. (like when Kain changes clothes) 2: You don't have to block all the attacks of every combo the enemy does, you can actually fight back. Like for example here 39:29, after blocking 2 blows from the Hylden Warrior you can actually strike back right away, since you're faster than your enemies. Try it, it will make the game a lot more enjoyable. 3: There are 2 weapons in which you can decapitate your enemies with when you hold them by their neck. Such as the big Sarfan Sword or this weapon right here 37:58. Note: It will not work on heavily armored warriors, like this guy 38:52. I found these discoveries when put myself through this challenge, ''Try to beat Blood Omen 2 without wasting time in drinking blood to increase your lifebar, do it only when you're low on health (since it decreases on it's own).'' That's why I love Blood Omen 2, the more you play it, try stuff like this & find some discoveries like the mentioned above, the more you'll love it.
The first time I got to the boss at the end of the game, a couple of days after the game's release, for some reason there was a glitch that caused me to die every time I jumped, or if my feet left the ground. I didn't know it was a glitch, otherwise I would have reset it or something, totally unfair fight, but I thought it was some kind of special power he hadn't bothered to tell me about, I must have missed some missed some dialogue somewhere. It took a few hours of constantly dying, i had to wait for the game to load every time, getting knocked back dying because my feet left the ground, so I knew it wasn't just jumping that was killing me, must be some curse or something. The whole time I was thinking "Why would they make the fight this way, it makes no sense, it totally ruins the game, it has to be mistake", no way I was about to reset the game though. Next my friend comes over and I'm telling him about how crazy hard the boss fight was. He wants to see it so run though the game and they last fight starts, and I can jump, the fight is so easy when you can jump, it was like someone turned the difficulty down on the game to Mongoloid. I was so mad, wasted a ton of time playing a broken fight for no reason, and my friend thought I was full of it.
As a fan of the series chuckled at the dark souls part . Don't get me wrong. I love deus ex and it certainly is among the best games ever and the dark souls community can be toxic. I'm playing the LoK series for the first time and after finishing each game I'm checking out your vids. Great content.
Thanks lol. I've made my peace with the souls series after finally figuring out DS3 and especially Sekiro. It took a while and I'm not a massive fanboy but I get it now.
Magnus was probably my favorite out of all of them considering that he actually had a cool background and actually had a bit of character development and stayed loyal to kain
The blicking system was actually good, as Kain blocks each individual strike with the appropriate animation. While in many game to this day blocking simply means dropping into a guard position that magically repels blows no matter the angle they com from.
I would argue that while the overall animations in SR1 look a bit better, the actual combat is worse. Because you always either need a weapon or you need to use grabs and throws, and even with the Soul Reaver, getting tapped once removes it. Also, fatigued enemies will visibly breathe heavily. You can actually see their breath, and if you grab them by the throat, you can basically 1-hit kill a lot of enemies if you have a weapon. I will agree though, I'd love if the powers were better implemented and if you got fury from attacking and if you could break weapons.
I always figured Kain's monologue to Umah when she dies was just him playing with what he thinks her hopes are, while he delights in the sweetness of a traitor's death.

I don't hate them but they are very over hyped. I finally finished Dark Souls 3 this year. I was determined to try to understand what it was people liked even if it wasn't for me. I sort of get it, but ultimate game of all time? Could you imagine the Grammies or the Oscars making that kind of claim.
@@arkham666 I played Dark Souls 1 twice trying to force myself to like it since it’s supposedly the best game ever. Some things I hate about it. *The difficulty is just annoying. Replaying the same boss over and over again isn’t fun. *All the items spawn in the exact same place so the game feels the same every time you play it. *The community is trash. They act very elitist but they are just playing the same trendy mainstream game as everyone else. *There’s basically no way to easily play co op with your friends. *There’s barely any music. *The story is nonexistent. *No fast travel. *All the games are basically the same. *From Software use to make Armored Core games which were great but now they never make anymore since making the same garbage Souls style games is more profitable.
@@zztopfan5201 I agree with you on some of those points. I will defend the community by saying the trash elements are a vocal minority. I had to deal with some of them myself somewhat but there's a lot of DS fans who are "play your way and just have fun." Maybe I was just lucky. I'd still say the game isn't for me but I kinda understand why it is the way it is. I feel you about armored core though man. While I've heard great things about the Guardians of the Galaxy game I just can't bring myself to play it knowing that it was made at the expense of another Deus Ex.
I had it on my (I think) gamecube. It was a bit limited in terms of what you could really do to keep combat interesting, and the puzzles were rather simplistic. It was reasonably fun, and I liked the gothic-steampunk-victorian aesthetic.
My favourite memory from this game (apart from Simon Templeman's voice, which is always a treat) is stealth killing a guard by slicing their throat with a broom. XD
Honestly for combat I would of loved a free flow arkham style for these games, and for the supposed speed, power, and athleticism of vampires it would suit very well. Imagine being surrounded by enemies and for a takedown you quickly mist and suck an opponent dry instantly while already moving to your next target, or raziel quickly abandoning his body mid fight to take the body of someone he just ended and the body explodes causing splash damage to the other enemies. Both attacks would refill your health
My Favorite vampire out of all the one's we fight is Faustus and his dark gift because his power reminds me of my favorite penny dreadful story back in Victorian England, Spring Heeled Jack.

Well that's your opinion and that's fine. Some people think Nathan Drake is a cool character too but I can't stand him. I played with whatever the default controls are. I just had to hold down the block button to block I've heard there's a timed block option but I honestly can't see how that would make things any more fun.

I liked her as well! It's easy to get distracted by the ridiculous animation and the outfit, but she's taking none of Kain's crap while still acknowledging that they need him because of his strength. And she wasn't wrong that there's no freedom for anyone else in his future. It explains how he's changed between Blood Omen and Soul Reaver.
I personally love Blood Omen 2, it has the most fun gameplay which to me holds up better than the other games do as I grew up with all. I also agree the Souls games are overhyped and trendy.

Deadly vid, man, you got yourself another subscriber. Good game despite its shortcomings, though I feel like it could have been really great if the devs had more time on their hands. But I guess you can say it about almost any other good but not great game. The rumor is that bo2 was strongly influenced by scrapped chakan game and unused stuff was reworked into bo2. Hence steampunk/sci-fi shift in setting and artstyle, and inconsistences in lore and poor writing as well. Is it true or not, reckon we'll never know, but similarities in character and environment designs are quite interesting.

I actually like both Marcus and Sebastian. (Sebastian especially) Now, both Kain and Marcus did not like each other. So, when Kain first encounters Marcus; Kain calls him "old friend" and he says "they were never friends", yeah, no love lost there. Sebastian was another story, Kain didn't recognized him and I sure as hell didn't know who he was at the time; because I could never past chapter 5. But when I first learned who he was and he was one of the vampires that betrayed Kain I was surprised. Sebastian's boss battle is hard, I know most people would say Magnus is hard; but Magnus's battle is easy if you know what you're doing. With Sebastian's first battle you have to keep moving and his second fight, well, make sure your block game is strong and have FURY equipped; because he's very fast and packs one hell of a punch. The final point I want to touch on my boy, Sebastian; is his design. I absolutely loved his design, they knocked outta the park.
My friend got ending dialogue in the beginning of the game. So many bugs. I used to get bugs where i would snap a himans neck but they would stand there.

Yeah I'd say there are a lot of issues in the controls department. It all feels janky and lacking in polish. 10/10 for trying something different, they just didn't quite land it.
The best thing to do is think of this as a campy Kain B movie that's not taking itself too seriously. It's a bit of a jolt from the grim tone of the main line games but it kinda works.
@arkham666 I enjoyed the story for what it was. The voices were still very good and narrative was still LoK level. I've played it and beat it several times, I just sometimes laugh when I look at Kain and also the combat.
I have a hard time seeing this as a Legacy of Kain game, I know that this was originally a Chanken the forever man sequel (game was on the Sega Genesis) and all I can see while playing this is development slapping kain into a world that was not made or ment for him. A sequel for moneys sake.
All I remember about this game was my older sisters friend letting me borrow it. It scared the crap out of me because for some Reason, I had a fear of vampires. Probably caused animal planet showing off Dracula clips for that top 10 show or that one episode of Hey Arnold. Anyway. My little kid brain was horrified but also interested to see where thus game went. Then I got to the first vampire boss and died a lot, and never played it afterwards
Generally good ideas, kewl characters, quirky af lore and A VERY SIMPLISTIC PORTRAYAL for the series such as LoK. That's Blood Omen 2. And it still is a better game than Defiance in a way.
There's no doubt that blood omen 2 and defiance are flawed each in their own way. I find things to love and groan about in both but overall I had a lot more fun with defiance. Maybe I'm just a Raziel simp.

I have a soft spot for this one. It’s janky as hell, the writing is a step down, and it created a tonne of plot holes that Defiance had to stitch up. But it’s fun. It’s like the pulp fiction, penny dreadful version of LoK. And I love Meridian as a setting. So much so, if I made a Blood Omen film, it’d be set there with that aesthetic. But of course, I’ll never make that film. I suck taking pictures with my phone for God’s sake 😮
Well yeah. These are my opinions and no one's opinions are right. I think I've been very fair in my judgements of the games mechanics but my feelings about Umah for example are completely a result of my own tastes so if you disagree with those then that's totally cool.
story wise i think a huge problem with bo2 is it feels like a fanfiction. but kain was a the one redeeming factor of the who game he was as big of a chad as you could be he was great.he was like wheres the hylden lord I'll kick his ass right now and everyone kept telling him your to weak to fight the hylden lord you need the nexus stone. he gets the nexus stone and confronts the hylden lord and first thing he dose is throws the nexus stone away and kicks the hylden lord ass lol. kain was right the whole time.voradors character took a major hit in this game he must have taken up a diet filled with soy and him being there at all makes unessary problems for the series storyline as a whole. but I did like at umahs death how kain was like if you got a problem with it bitch I'll kill you too.kain really did make the whole experience worth it. as for the gameplay I didn't mind the tank controls they're fine once you get used to them. but I got to disagree with the grabs I always enjoyed doing the executions I like doing them every time I got a new weapon just to see what crazy kain will kill them in. as for the etrenal prison I like to think maybe that was a pocket of the demon dimension the hylden lord brought into nosgoth but I never really looked to deeply into the place

Not going to lie, kind of like the silly designs everyone has in this game. Kain in particular comes off as a noble vampire barbarian, if that makes any sense. Dumb, but harmless fun; even if it makes little to no sense in the plot. If anything his outfit looks similar to that of his sons from Soul Reaver, although those outfits were a little more detailed.
The other female vampires have yellowish skin. I think they're just weaker vampires. Uma is at least grey. Closer in power to Kain than any of them. Maybe that's all it is? Buuuut that's just me reaching to make it make sense
i kinda saw this as more a tech demo more then a true game because its got alot of good ideas but the clunkyness makes it feel unpoilshed... it was ment to have a stealth system but it was cut during development
It's an unfortunate truth of game development that many games release as much smaller lesser versions of how they were envisioned. If I ever revisit this series I'm going to dive much deeper into its development and found out about what could have been.
The game may be dated by today's standards, but playing it at the time, I thought it had the most satisfying gameplay of the series despite the worst story.
Oh this poor little edgy oddball. It really feels like the developers wanted to '1mPr0V3" the combat and appeal to the stereotypical gamers with more T and A and posturing. As for distancing themselves from the main titles, well, mission accomplished! I really wish this game hadn't done that because exploring characters like our mid-bosses and their past with Kain in depth rather than a few lines of dialogue would have been immensely more interesting, as well as fleshing out Vorador and Kain's dynamic and making Uma more than the Inevitably Treacherous Love Interest.
You're one of the FEW people who use the phrase "all but" correctly. Most ppl use it to mean finished or done or completed. When it's everything but those.
I've finished dark souls 3 and I'd say I enjoy and I get why people like it. I like Sekiro a lot more though. The issue isn't so much the game as the award. "Ultimate Game of All Time" as in this is it guys, of all the incredible experiences and stories this medium has to offer this is as good as it gets. And since all time includes the future that means it will never get better. Does that sound like an award that should go to any game? Least of all one you'd say is "pretty good."

I have to say that as much as I love Legacy of Kain for the story and atmosphere, I do hate every single one of LoK games for their abysmal gameplay. Blood Omen is ancient and feels like Dink Smallwood rather than a real game, Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 are clunky as hell, Defiance has a Camera that is actively sabotaging your gameplay from combat to those more challenging platforming scenes, and Blood Omen 2 is the worst of the lot in every regard. I'm just really glad that each of these games has multitudes of story playthroughs on YT so I don't have to actually play the games to enjoy their good parts ^^ That being said I really wish that one day we'll live in a more sensible time with more sensible people in charge of making games when I can trust that a remake isn't just an excuse to ruin my favorite worlds with disgusting agendas, and on that day the entire series gets remade with more immersive sim type gameplay with actual character progression mechanics, items, equipment and a proper control scheme that doesn't make me want to bash my controller/keyboard into oblivion. I so want a LoK game that I would actually enjoy playing.

One of my favourite scenes is the wharves chapter when they're like "we have to be inconspicuous!" and Kain shows up in 2ft tall shoulder spikes. 😂 But I assume the point is that he still has the Disguise form from the first game.
These outfits would stood out in at the Waken metal festival, too.

This game was my introduction to the Legacy of Kain franchise. It was amazing and so different from any other games I had played. I will never not love it.
This is also the game I tend to use to introduce others to the franchise. I figure if I can get them to enjoy the worst game in the franchise first, then the rest will blow minds.
There's still plenty to love even if it is very rough around the edges. So yeah , I guess if people can get into this one then the rest will be a hell of a step up.
I tried the other games in the series. I hated them. Too hard to enjoy the alledgedly 'better' story in the others Blood Omen 2 is the only one I finished.
The main thing I remember about the combat was just how flat and boring it felt.
The "whoosh-tink!" sound of blocking is still burned into my memory.
It isn't the best lol and I know exactly what you mean about those sound effects.

Because it'll take 4 hits to kill enemies but you can only get attacks off in 3s for some reason.
I low key really like blood omen 2. I mean is it my favorite of the games.. no but that has less to do with the game but more to do with razel being my favorite character of the series so prefer his games. But i dont think blood omen 2 is that bad in fact my only real problem with it is i have a lot of trouble placing it. I know it is supposed to be what kain sees in his memories after the 3rd paradox. But things like janos and vorador being a live confuse me
Vorador was supposed to have been explained in Defiance but it ultimately got cut. It is a bit odd really.

Sebastian was the best. 😂 The voice actor gave 120% to make him sounds as bored and derisive as possible in every line, only to act like a toddler on a sugar rush during the fight.
I was stuck on magnus for like a month.
BO2 has its (many, *many*) issues, mainly the hot topic-ness of it all, but I've always found it oddly enjoyable. You have to love a protagonist as unapologetically awful as Kain is, and maybe half by accident, I do think the game does a good job of fleshing out his character. So much that I think people are missing out on understanding him by skipping the game. Though BO2, we can understand the change he went through between the first game and Soul Reaver. I even like Umah and the way she (rightly) points out that Kain's a megalomaniac with world domination on the mind and there's no room for anyone else in his future. It re-contextualizes how all the other lieutenants left him on the eve of battle the first time around.
Perhaps despite itself, it shows us Kain's selfishness, his lack of trust in others, and above all, his loneliness. Like Defiance, the game ends with him standing alone, less than satisfied, and the world in ruins around him, but the message is very different.
Also, the way you can get distracted by listening to the citizens debate theatre makes Meridian one of the best game cities ever. 😂
This is a true vampire game you play as the arrogant Kain in a wekened state there is only one thing missing his catchfrase VAE VICTUS!

Regarding your comments on Uma's character design... yeah, early 2000s delivered some of my most favourite action games, which admittedly had pretty cringy female character design... This, Tavion in Jedi Outcast and the pirate leader in the beginning of Prince of Persia: WW come to mind.
In general the vampire outfits here remind me of the Key and Peele: Sexy vampires sketch.

The random sexism in the character design really stands out. And the way every female enemy you fight runs away in fear. 🙄All the more disappointing because the women in Blood Omen were the first in line to stab you! But yeah, it's a relief that we're (mostly) past the age of bikini armour.
Best part about the plot: we're supposed to believe that the Sarafan Lord is just a regular human. You're telling me the 9 ft. tall, demonic voiced, green fire hair guy is just a regular old human? Sure he is bud, sure.
I'm torn between thinking the camp aesthetic is creative genius or just bad at times. It certainly doesn't match the rest of the series. The game has it's charm but is lacking in places.

Kain's entire body is perfectly textured, and detailed. The rest of the enemies and NPCs? They look like there's a Vaseline smear everywhere on the screen except Kain. It gives the impression that Kain is a little far sighted. lol

Im glad for this video. I'm a longtime huge fan of Legacy of Kain and for years now i yearned to get back to Nosgoth. What i realized was that i really really wanted to visit Meridian again. BO2 is just filled with great atmosphere and fairly fun gameplay. Defiance does it all a bit better, but this game, even over the original, just makes me happy when I'm playing it...
Blood Omen 2 would've been so much better, if the first 5 hours wasn't full of tutorials and dull cutscenes that were basically also the tutorial.
If it just skipped all that pace stopping stuff, I'd love it!
As is, I still love it once it opens up a bit and stops pausing the gameplay every 2 minutes.

It honestly makes the combat that much better. Even In early game you can kinda feel it. But middle to late game, it makes it actually fun and kinda tense tryna time the blocks. Versus, holding 1 button for 5 to 10 seconds then pressing 1 button to kill.
Catching this banger of a review late dayum, never expected such a small channel to make this good and funny of a review, awesome job. I love kain, this particular game is all about "BIG BAD ASS KAIN" so it's enjoyable for kain fan boys like me I guess xd. It falls about a lot though, I am not even talking about the series, even if we were to look at the individual qualities of the other 4 games in the series they were much better compared to this.
One thing I want to say is that perhaps you don't know that after grabbing enemies, you can do a continuous lmb hold for 3-4 seconds or lesser, kain will impale the shit out of enemies and like, if you were attacking enemies normally they rise up about three times, mostly the armor clad soldiers, you can finish them in two such blows, makes it a bit efficient amd cool I guess unlike my explanation.

You can perform an execution to a tired/injured enemy after grabbing them by pressing Up and attack, each type of weapon does a different finishing move like beheading - pearcing - stabbing, great video btw.
Despite all these things about the plot and other things, i played this game when i wasn't searching about it and i was interested about Kain story more than Raziel in both Soul Reavers and Blood Omen beeing my most beloved game in Legacy of Kain i also liked Blood Omen 2 only then when i started to learn about other Legacy of Kain games Blood Omen 2 was the weakest among all of them,but despite beeing the weakest/ in some parts of plot "weird"/not greatest combat system with skills which Kain obtain and boss fights/but i still love this game and interesting enough that this game was supposed to be way better than the final product and development was very difficult, and even though its a bit unfinished i love this game and mostly enjoy Kain story more than Razie,great video,sorry for wall of text,Vae Victus!🤘
I forgot to say 3 important things.
1: You don't have to drink blood to increase your lifebar.
The lifebar increases on it's own as you move from one chapter to another. (like when Kain changes clothes)
2: You don't have to block all the attacks of every combo the enemy does, you can actually fight back.
Like for example here 39:29, after blocking 2 blows from the Hylden Warrior you can actually strike back right away, since you're faster than your enemies. Try it, it will make the game a lot more enjoyable.
3: There are 2 weapons in which you can decapitate your enemies with when you hold them by their neck. Such as the big Sarfan Sword or this weapon right here 37:58.
Note: It will not work on heavily armored warriors, like this guy 38:52.
I found these discoveries when put myself through this challenge,
''Try to beat Blood Omen 2 without wasting time in drinking blood to increase your lifebar, do it only when you're low on health (since it decreases on it's own).''
That's why I love Blood Omen 2, the more you play it, try stuff like this & find some discoveries like the mentioned above, the more you'll love it.
The first time I got to the boss at the end of the game, a couple of days after the game's release, for some reason there was a glitch that caused me to die every time I jumped, or if my feet left the ground. I didn't know it was a glitch, otherwise I would have reset it or something, totally unfair fight, but I thought it was some kind of special power he hadn't bothered to tell me about, I must have missed some missed some dialogue somewhere. It took a few hours of constantly dying, i had to wait for the game to load every time, getting knocked back dying because my feet left the ground, so I knew it wasn't just jumping that was killing me, must be some curse or something. The whole time I was thinking "Why would they make the fight this way, it makes no sense, it totally ruins the game, it has to be mistake", no way I was about to reset the game though. Next my friend comes over and I'm telling him about how crazy hard the boss fight was. He wants to see it so run though the game and they last fight starts, and I can jump, the fight is so easy when you can jump, it was like someone turned the difficulty down on the game to Mongoloid. I was so mad, wasted a ton of time playing a broken fight for no reason, and my friend thought I was full of it.

As a fan of the series chuckled at the dark souls part . Don't get me wrong. I love deus ex and it certainly is among the best games ever and the dark souls community can be toxic. I'm playing the LoK series for the first time and after finishing each game I'm checking out your vids. Great content.

Magnus was probably my favorite out of all of them considering that he actually had a cool background and actually had a bit of character development and stayed loyal to kain
Yeah that's fair. He was a lot more interesting overall.
The blicking system was actually good, as Kain blocks each individual strike with the appropriate animation. While in many game to this day blocking simply means dropping into a guard position that magically repels blows no matter the angle they com from.
I would argue that while the overall animations in SR1 look a bit better, the actual combat is worse. Because you always either need a weapon or you need to use grabs and throws, and even with the Soul Reaver, getting tapped once removes it.
Also, fatigued enemies will visibly breathe heavily. You can actually see their breath, and if you grab them by the throat, you can basically 1-hit kill a lot of enemies if you have a weapon. I will agree though, I'd love if the powers were better implemented and if you got fury from attacking and if you could break weapons.
I like this game, it is what it is. Yes I played all the games and Defiance was much worse the BO2.
I'm glad you liked it. Its certainly not without its charm but it's not something I see myself replaying again.

I don't hate them but they are very over hyped. I finally finished Dark Souls 3 this year. I was determined to try to understand what it was people liked even if it wasn't for me. I sort of get it, but ultimate game of all time? Could you imagine the Grammies or the Oscars making that kind of claim.
@@arkham666 I played Dark Souls 1 twice trying to force myself to like it since it’s supposedly the best game ever. Some things I hate about it.
*The difficulty is just annoying. Replaying the same boss over and over again isn’t fun.
*All the items spawn in the exact same place so the game feels the same every time you play it.
*The community is trash. They act very elitist but they are just playing the same trendy mainstream game as everyone else.
*There’s basically no way to easily play co op with your friends.
*There’s barely any music.
*The story is nonexistent.
*No fast travel.
*All the games are basically the same.
*From Software use to make Armored Core games which were great but now they never make anymore since making the same garbage Souls style games is more profitable.
@@zztopfan5201 I agree with you on some of those points. I will defend the community by saying the trash elements are a vocal minority. I had to deal with some of them myself somewhat but there's a lot of DS fans who are "play your way and just have fun." Maybe I was just lucky. I'd still say the game isn't for me but I kinda understand why it is the way it is.
I feel you about armored core though man. While I've heard great things about the Guardians of the Galaxy game I just can't bring myself to play it knowing that it was made at the expense of another Deus Ex.
I recently played through the Souls games the past couple months and I gave up on DS3. Demon's Souls is the best game of that series.
They are trash.
I had it on my (I think) gamecube. It was a bit limited in terms of what you could really do to keep combat interesting, and the puzzles were rather simplistic. It was reasonably fun, and I liked the gothic-steampunk-victorian aesthetic.
These 2 have had absolutely no chemistry through this entire game

My favourite memory from this game (apart from Simon Templeman's voice, which is always a treat) is stealth killing a guard by slicing their throat with a broom. XD
Honestly for combat I would of loved a free flow arkham style for these games, and for the supposed speed, power, and athleticism of vampires it would suit very well.
Imagine being surrounded by enemies and for a takedown you quickly mist and suck an opponent dry instantly while already moving to your next target, or raziel quickly abandoning his body mid fight to take the body of someone he just ended and the body explodes causing splash damage to the other enemies. Both attacks would refill your health
My Favorite vampire out of all the one's we fight is Faustus and his dark gift because his power reminds me of my favorite penny dreadful story back in Victorian England, Spring Heeled Jack.

Well that's your opinion and that's fine. Some people think Nathan Drake is a cool character too but I can't stand him. I played with whatever the default controls are. I just had to hold down the block button to block I've heard there's a timed block option but I honestly can't see how that would make things any more fun.
@@arkham666 It acts as self imposed hard mode and makes you more engadged in action, there is some fun in it but combat over all is weak point of game.
I liked her as well! It's easy to get distracted by the ridiculous animation and the outfit, but she's taking none of Kain's crap while still acknowledging that they need him because of his strength. And she wasn't wrong that there's no freedom for anyone else in his future. It explains how he's changed between Blood Omen and Soul Reaver.
I personally love Blood Omen 2, it has the most fun gameplay which to me holds up better than the other games do as I grew up with all. I also agree the Souls games are overhyped and trendy.

Deadly vid, man, you got yourself another subscriber. Good game despite its shortcomings, though I feel like it could have been really great if the devs had more time on their hands. But I guess you can say it about almost any other good but not great game. The rumor is that bo2 was strongly influenced by scrapped chakan game and unused stuff was reworked into bo2. Hence steampunk/sci-fi shift in setting and artstyle, and inconsistences in lore and poor writing as well. Is it true or not, reckon we'll never know, but similarities in character and environment designs are quite interesting.

I actually like both Marcus and Sebastian. (Sebastian especially) Now, both Kain and Marcus did not like each other. So, when Kain first encounters Marcus; Kain calls him "old friend" and he says "they were never friends", yeah, no love lost there. Sebastian was another story, Kain didn't recognized him and I sure as hell didn't know who he was at the time; because I could never past chapter 5. But when I first learned who he was and he was one of the vampires that betrayed Kain I was surprised. Sebastian's boss battle is hard, I know most people would say Magnus is hard; but Magnus's battle is easy if you know what you're doing. With Sebastian's first battle you have to keep moving and his second fight, well, make sure your block game is strong and have FURY equipped; because he's very fast and packs one hell of a punch. The final point I want to touch on my boy, Sebastian; is his design. I absolutely loved his design, they knocked outta the park.
I played this game since it was free on gametap in the late 2000s. Always had a soft spot for blood omen 2.
My friend got ending dialogue in the beginning of the game. So many bugs. I used to get bugs where i would snap a himans neck but they would stand there.

Yeah I'd say there are a lot of issues in the controls department. It all feels janky and lacking in polish. 10/10 for trying something different, they just didn't quite land it.
The game actually controls very well on Gamecube, the clicky buttons fit with the timed blocks and strikes.
The art direction is basically Thief 2: The Metal Age but with vampires lol
I mean, if your job was to do Thief 2 the metal but make it better, I think vampires would be the first thing to jump into your head too.
I couldn't and still can't get passed the way Kain looks in this game.
The best thing to do is think of this as a campy Kain B movie that's not taking itself too seriously. It's a bit of a jolt from the grim tone of the main line games but it kinda works.
@arkham666 I enjoyed the story for what it was. The voices were still very good and narrative was still LoK level. I've played it and beat it several times, I just sometimes laugh when I look at Kain and also the combat.
I have a hard time seeing this as a Legacy of Kain game, I know that this was originally a Chanken the forever man sequel (game was on the Sega Genesis) and all I can see while playing this is development slapping kain into a world that was not made or ment for him.
A sequel for moneys sake.
All I remember about this game was my older sisters friend letting me borrow it. It scared the crap out of me because for some Reason, I had a fear of vampires. Probably caused animal planet showing off Dracula clips for that top 10 show or that one episode of Hey Arnold.
Anyway. My little kid brain was horrified but also interested to see where thus game went. Then I got to the first vampire boss and died a lot, and never played it afterwards

There's no doubt that blood omen 2 and defiance are flawed each in their own way. I find things to love and groan about in both but overall I had a lot more fun with defiance. Maybe I'm just a Raziel simp.

I have a soft spot for this one. It’s janky as hell, the writing is a step down, and it created a tonne of plot holes that Defiance had to stitch up.
But it’s fun. It’s like the pulp fiction, penny dreadful version of LoK. And I love Meridian as a setting. So much so, if I made a Blood Omen film, it’d be set there with that aesthetic. But of course, I’ll never make that film. I suck taking pictures with my phone for God’s sake 😮

Well yeah. These are my opinions and no one's opinions are right. I think I've been very fair in my judgements of the games mechanics but my feelings about Umah for example are completely a result of my own tastes so if you disagree with those then that's totally cool.

story wise i think a huge problem with bo2 is it feels like a fanfiction. but kain was a the one redeeming factor of the who game he was as big of a chad as you could be he was great.he was like wheres the hylden lord I'll kick his ass right now and everyone kept telling him your to weak to fight the hylden lord you need the nexus stone. he gets the nexus stone and confronts the hylden lord and first thing he dose is throws the nexus stone away and kicks the hylden lord ass lol. kain was right the whole time.voradors character took a major hit in this game he must have taken up a diet filled with soy and him being there at all makes unessary problems for the series storyline as a whole. but I did like at umahs death how kain was like if you got a problem with it bitch I'll kill you too.kain really did make the whole experience worth it. as for the gameplay I didn't mind the tank controls they're fine once you get used to them. but I got to disagree with the grabs I always enjoyed doing the executions I like doing them every time I got a new weapon just to see what crazy kain will kill them in. as for the etrenal prison I like to think maybe that was a pocket of the demon dimension the hylden lord brought into nosgoth but I never really looked to deeply into the place

Not going to lie, kind of like the silly designs everyone has in this game. Kain in particular comes off as a noble vampire barbarian, if that makes any sense. Dumb, but harmless fun; even if it makes little to no sense in the plot. If anything his outfit looks similar to that of his sons from Soul Reaver, although those outfits were a little more detailed.

i kinda saw this as more a tech demo more then a true game because its got alot of good ideas but the clunkyness makes it feel unpoilshed... it was ment to have a stealth system but it was cut during development
It's an unfortunate truth of game development that many games release as much smaller lesser versions of how they were envisioned. If I ever revisit this series I'm going to dive much deeper into its development and found out about what could have been.
The game may be dated by today's standards, but playing it at the time, I thought it had the most satisfying gameplay of the series despite the worst story.

Oh this poor little edgy oddball. It really feels like the developers wanted to '1mPr0V3" the combat and appeal to the stereotypical gamers with more T and A and posturing. As for distancing themselves from the main titles, well, mission accomplished! I really wish this game hadn't done that because exploring characters like our mid-bosses and their past with Kain in depth rather than a few lines of dialogue would have been immensely more interesting, as well as fleshing out Vorador and Kain's dynamic and making Uma more than the Inevitably Treacherous Love Interest.

I've finished dark souls 3 and I'd say I enjoy and I get why people like it. I like Sekiro a lot more though. The issue isn't so much the game as the award. "Ultimate Game of All Time" as in this is it guys, of all the incredible experiences and stories this medium has to offer this is as good as it gets. And since all time includes the future that means it will never get better. Does that sound like an award that should go to any game? Least of all one you'd say is "pretty good."
@@arkham666 I get where your coming from, plus it's always going to be subjective too. For the longest time my favourite of all time was dark sound and then when elden ring released no other game got it's hooks into me quite like that! Deus ex is pretty rad too!

@@ArtoriasNX yeah the subjective part is also important. I think number one ever is so personal that giving some kind of official stamp to that is kind of dumb. Imagine the Oscars doing a best movies ever award. The whole thing is just a gag really but I genuinely dislike the game awards.
I've yet to play elden Ring. I'm going to buy a new PC next year so I'm holding out to see it at its best.

I have to say that as much as I love Legacy of Kain for the story and atmosphere, I do hate every single one of LoK games for their abysmal gameplay. Blood Omen is ancient and feels like Dink Smallwood rather than a real game, Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 are clunky as hell, Defiance has a Camera that is actively sabotaging your gameplay from combat to those more challenging platforming scenes, and Blood Omen 2 is the worst of the lot in every regard. I'm just really glad that each of these games has multitudes of story playthroughs on YT so I don't have to actually play the games to enjoy their good parts ^^
That being said I really wish that one day we'll live in a more sensible time with more sensible people in charge of making games when I can trust that a remake isn't just an excuse to ruin my favorite worlds with disgusting agendas, and on that day the entire series gets remade with more immersive sim type gameplay with actual character progression mechanics, items, equipment and a proper control scheme that doesn't make me want to bash my controller/keyboard into oblivion. I so want a LoK game that I would actually enjoy playing.

Honestly pretty good game but terrible combat lol🤷♂️ If they just made everything nice and smooth then it would of been a pretty solid title💯. Similar to bloodrayne 2 where the game is pretty good but the combat is just trash🤢🤦♂️
