I fucking wish Legacy of Kain was still with us. I miss gothic games so much, there is literally nothing that fills the void that this series left.
I put so many hours into Legacy of Kain back in the day. Simon Templeman is still one of my favorite voice actors.
Most definitely.
This series has needed a RUclipsr marathon covering them. So so good
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed be sure to SHARE and SUBSCRIBE! What's your favorite game where you play the villain?
The inFamous series, if you choose to do all the evil things.
I loved the first Destroy all humans.
any mario game
stollrofl I think he means a game with the story written around your character being evil. Not a choose your morality game like infamous or the fallout series, and probably not an antihero game like prototype or darksiders.
I guess Stubbs the Zombie would have been a villain. Loved that game on the xbox, painfully underrated
Legacy of Kain was one of the first games I remember finishing. Story was good enough to just keep wanting to play until it was done.
VAE VICTIS!
HAHAHA!
help me, kind sir!
...these lines haunt me still.
Help me kind sir, help me kind sir, he ... he ... help me kind sir
The Deception series as a whole. My god the amount of trap combinations is phenomenal
Being a chaotic evil Char un neverwinter nights was the best experience for me. Temple of elemental evil was also good and most recently Tyranny.
I adore Legacy of Kain. To be fair the story and voice acting are outstanding throughout the series.
In answer to your question, Mathas: *Destroy All Humans!*
Crypto was definitely not a hero in any way.
@White-Van Helsing Yes it is.
One of my favorite games series of all time! Blood Omen is so damn good! I love the first game but as an artist I have to admit the changes to the art style Crystal Dynamics made in Soul Reaver are fucking fantastic.
I love Overlord 1 and Overlord 2. The story is pretty cool, the first game has to deal with killing your former friends who are heroes who've become evil. Then the second game has to deal with you trying to overthrow a empire and pull the world into darkness once again. The game is a lot like pikmen except for a dark gothic twist to the gameplay, while there deffinetly are some problems I had a lot of fun with the games. I've heard that there was a third game made but it doesn't have the same gameplay so I'm not interested, but I have heard rumors of a Overlord 3 so I hope that this franchise will live on.
No Overlord 3. However, a new spinoff is in the works.
At least not all forgot this gem yet.
Planescape: Torment is the only game where an Evil playthrough made me deeply uncomfortable with my own choices and the depths of the cruelty.
1996 me loved the demo of this game and was too poor to afford the full version. Years later I got to play blood omen 2 and loved it too. I have yet to play the remaining games which I own in steam, but this series holds a place in my heart.
Nicely done! One of my favourite series of all time. Hoping they will continue the damn series!
I love Soul Reaver 1 & 2 but never got around to play the Blood Omen part of story. Maybe one I will. I really like the atmosphere and story
Spec ops the line! It's a game I look at with such fond memories, despite how badly I sucked at the actual game. It drags you through the mud of war and then forces you to look at the monster you have become to survive! It's great!

TIME FOR ANOTHER MARATHON
I love this series of games honestly ig Kain was a villain back then but later on without spoiling too much he tries to do something hero like
Blood Omen > Soul Reaver
Fight me
Year and a half late, but I wanted to add a couple titles to the evil protagonist list:
Manhunt from Rockstar- Crazy and maybe mindless killling, but oh so fun.
The suffering (1), The suffering: ties that bind (2) from Midway- Pretty disturbing background, some shocking moments, gore, malice... just amazing :P
Probably too late for Mathas to read this coment but who knows, maybe he played and even enjoyed some of these titles.

Definitely Fable, I love playing the evil route in that game. Same with the other two Fable games, but the first Fable sticks in my mind more.
This dude reminds me of the FoundFlix channel guy. Bookshelves, voice, accent, cadence... dead on.
Dungeon Keeper was my favorite game to play the villian in for sure
Yes! Totally interested in you keeping this series going on until its said and done.
Loved this series.
Whoa BPG speaks likes this kind of stuff!?! cool!
I discovered Legacy of Kain thanks to Soul Reaver, which was playing the intro in the game store I frequented way back when. That music hit me like nothing else, and some years later I'd go on to buy the album it came from.
I haven't had much luck finding the original Blood Omen. I found a pirated version with no cinematics (and with the story stripped away you get completely lost and have not only no idea of what you're supposed to be doing, but what you're even doing at all) and more recently I found an old French dub, but... well, it's French, so no Tony Jay or Simon Templeman. I still look forward to the day where I can just buy it on GOG.
looking way forward to the rest of this series and to further reviews on entire series.
I loved this game back in the day. I had previously played secret of mana and soul blazer on the SNES and this dark violent westernised take on the top down rpg blew my mind. The voice acting and the cut scenes at the time were great additions even though the fmv these days has aged badly I still have fond memories of it. It's on my list of games to play again either on vita or the ps classic, if I ever find the time.
I can't really say if love is the right word, or if he's even considered a villain, but Drakengard holds a dear place in my heart, and Caim, even though he was fighting the bad guys, was a fucking psycho
To answer your question. Overlord. I loved the minions.
Completely forgot about this channel. Time to revisit
My favourite villian game would have to be a toss up between Destroy All Humans! and Stubbs the Zombie.
Great video!
Absolutely pumped to see the rest of this series.
JudgeMathas, about a year ago I caught you in a Roundtable Podcast talking about Star Wars Rebellion and briefly talked to you about it. Now, I see you have both Lords of the Realm II and Lords of Magic (but no Legends of Urak?) Your PC collection is basically pure nostalgia for me, and now I want to go do a Fire Giant campaign.
My favorite game of all time (called "Blood") is one where while you're killing demons, cultists, gargoyles, zombies and whatnot, you are playing as a character that has 0 regard for others' well being. You could kill innocent civilians and you'll just start hysterically laughing.
Another one is the original Carmageddon, where you're literally encouraged to run over innocent civilians and get rewarded for it.
Both of them have nice big boxes and both of them are great games that you should totally cover someday ;D
@White-Van Helsing Yep
oooouuuu I remember playing Soul Reaver, I remember it being fun, nice. I remember those moves and powers, ah, nostalgia.
Keep up the good work Mathas! I would say Overlord is my fav play as the villain game.
Love the game, love the series, so much so, my son is named Kain.
PearahDahx people will think youre a religious nutbag haha
Cringe
Nice!
Gonna name my son Raziel.
Keep him away from his brother, Abel
Just one quick criticism for the future, love the channel, love the video, but in the first 2 minutes you introduce the idea that this is a series of reviews in the exact same way, it felt redundant. Keep up the great work otherwise!
Found an Italian one on eBay. It's brand new, still sealed and costs 199.99 Euros. The box looks slightly different, though. Kain is more to the right and the words "The Epic Role-Playing Game" are on the left side of the box. It also has a sticker on the plastic wrap that says "Manuale In Italiano" though I assume, as a collectors' item, this doesn't matter. Though maybe it could.
A lot of different counties have different boxed copies! Dungeon Keepers box for example is very different in the UK than it is in the US.
my introduction to this franchise was this game;
Believe me or not: I purchased a PC version of "rogue squadron" from the store-shelf. Shrink-wrapped O.P., back when it came out.
All was good in that big cardbox-PC game box, (I miss them so dearly.....)
BUT in the actual CD-jewel case, there was no rogue Squadron-CD, but this game instead!!
I popped it in....."yeah I'll keep that!!" I never filed a return whatsoever!!
(Edit: I do not even know if lucasarts and them shared some relation. It might just have been a messup by the european package&distribution companies on behalf of gaming-companies... I dont know!)
Predator Concrete Jungle is the best Predator game and game that lets you play as a villain that I can think of atm. (Aside from Blood Omen 2) Which I've been waiting for you to do a complete playthrough of. It's one of my favorite games. I played the crap out of it and would be nice to see it again.
I'm glad someone else agrees with me that the best part in Blood Omen was when Vorador burst into a game store to disrupt the nerd groups LARP session.
the game is awesome, and I love hearing kain talking about stuff when he gets to a new place or thinks about something.
by the way, I found it in the early 2000s in the bargain bin at a cyber-cafe store thing. it was at a ridiculous price, very cheap. (just the case and the CD, no box or manual). the next time I went there to ask for the bargain bin of games they were like "what bargain bin? what games? we don't sell games" hahahaha.
My villain game would have to be Dungeon Keeper. Still a fun game to play. Mwa hah hah!
I so Loved these games I can't believe I missed these reviews. Saw the podcast with you in it talking about these reviews. Amazing I love that you are reviewing them.
Do them all please, big fan of series.
Great review as always :)
history abhors a paradox
You had me at "dark Zelda"
My mom bought this for me when i was 8 or so......
Definitely shaped who I am today.
Also there's a good chance you'll miss that blood fountain that negates rain damage, and could play the whole game without even knowing it exists.
I only found it on 4th or 5th playthrough(not all the way through mind you, more like restarts cuz i misused items or something that made it impossible to continue.)
Those old pc game boxes were big as fuck. I remember when my aunt bought the original alone in the dark and i thought that it was a box of cereals
This series deserve being remaked... would buy them all...
i have the ps1 version, i bought it when it was new, still the best legacy of kain game, its story sticks with me till this day
I love this review :D I totally get why you cannot play the games you review on camera, but I would very much have enjoyed watching you play this game :)
Its a toss up between Evil Genius and Dungeon Keeper 1/2 for me. Those are my favorite "play the bad guy" games.
History abhors a paradox, Raziel
dungeon keeper for sure :) they made a revamp of it on steam called war for the overworld which is pretty amazing and nostalgic :)
Miss this series a lot :(((
It's "Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain". The Soul Reaver titles were by a different company (which published Blood Omen) and due to legal issues, they couldn't use the "Blood Omen" name, only the "Legacy of Kain" name, so they went with "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver".
They still published Blood Omen 2, they called soul reaver because it's a very different game with another protagonist
I would argue the game was retroactively renamed. If you read through the Blood Omen 2 instruction manual, they call this game “Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen” at every mention.
Love this game to bloody bits!
About that Diablo comparation, I bet is just the camera perspective and just the first impression.
My brother just looked at me playing Blood Omen, and the first thing he said is "is that Diablo?" lmao
Fuck yes! Waited so long for that review!
oh, i see, finna roats nosgoth like that. It was a fun game, i remember it fondly, i was a kid when it released and when i realized that it was part of the LOK universe my little kid brain was blown. My favorite vampire was the flying one from the raziel gang? group? family? idk, but those guy were so much fun. Still feel a little sad its gone
dude! soul reaver was one of my favorite ps1 games! i cant wait for this series!
Over lord my dude!
My favorite bad guy game is Evil Genius.
I'm surprised I never saw this game before...
I am very excited for the rest of these videos.
I tried playing a digital version of this in the PS3, but the gamma was too low and I don't recall seeing an option for it. Now that I think about it, I probably could have turned up the brightness on the television. At any rate, I always heard good things about this game, so I can't wait to try it again.
Favourite game to be the villain? Apart from Kain here, Dungeon Keeper with no real competition.
Mathas, you goofy man, at 30 sec and 2:30 you repeat yourself.
Finding a boxed Blood Omen copy was easy... back in 1996. Seriously i still have these big pc boxes in the bookcase behind me.
Nothing can compare to the look of Big Box PC games on a shelf honestly.
The extremely loud overlapped earrape moaning of the prisoners repeated every few seconds only serves to torture the mercifull player.
Next to Final Fantasy 7 this is one of the best games on the PS1. O how it takes me back. It reminds me of lightning the control box next to some power transformers on fire and setting off an alarm, and the time me and the biggest regret of my youth and I skipped school to go make out in the woods behind the park one afternoon. O to be young.
Love this! Can you do Vampires Masquerade next? It’s my favourite villain protagonist game.
literally his first video. ruclips.net/video/nRfpRV3GehQ/видео.html
KOTOR, dark side
HECK YEA! My favorite series!
Super easy to find. Wasn't even looking for it and found it in a discount bin at a KB Toys.
Definitely the Overlord games or the Dungeon Keeper games, but you already went over Dungeon Keeper.
Awesome game series.
war for the overworld
Thanks for giving this game an AMAZING REVIEW, your channel is cool and keep the review videos coming.
❤️🎮✌️😎✌️🎮❤️

What a HORRIBLE way to die.
It wasn't super difficult for me, took me maybe a few months of searching at most. But I got mine way back in like 2013 when I first got into the series, it's probably much more difficult nowadays.
I'm just starting the video so I haven't seen game play yet, but my immediate curiosity is whether or not you were able to get the game to run at full speed and how you accomplished it if so. I have struggled many times to get blood omen to run properly on modern PCs. For some reason Kain actively moves slower then he is supposed to in it when run on modern systems. I think it has something to do with CPU clock speeds. Not sure. It drives me crazy since this was one of my favorite games.
Yeah, speed looks solid as far as I can tell. If you have any insight on how you managed to get it to run well I'd appreciate. Great video!
Are we getting more LOK from Mathas or not? I would like to see more. I love the LOK Games.
I loved the original
I had it on ps1
Loved the story.
They lost me after the first soul reaver
Space
Space
Overlord and Starwars the old republic good games that let you play as the bad guy
I use to have the box for Blood omen for the PC, but after moving I just packed the disc case.
It kinda sucks that blood omen 1 isn't on steam or gog and the only way to play it on pc is the physical version
They were not bandits that killed kain, they were assassins.
Brigands*
pretty sure my favorite "you are the bad guy" game would be saints row 2, you are consistently a dickbag throu and throu and even if you are constantly battling ppl that are arguably worse than you there is no doubt that you are a criminal with no moral code and 0 fucks to give since the events of the first game, i have played it like 3 times and i cant get tired of it
I had this on floppy but could never get it to run properly....
I bought this game back then, but I think in one of those bins where it's only the CD case. I loved vampires but could never get into this game.
shoot i remember trying to find this game, back when soul reaver 2 was just released and even then it was hard to find, so i can't even imagine trying to find it 15 years later
also as for evil options, the kotor games always had a dark side option which was fun (so long as nuance isn't your thing)
but my favorite and truest evil, was back in morrowind, after i killed dagoth ur and almalexia, i decided to kill vivec as well (revenge well justified btw) and then decided to tell some people about my deeds because if i could kill their literal living gods, then they'd have no choice but to bow down to me as their new overlord, but instead the ungrateful shits were mad at me and didn't even believe me. so i decided to go on a killing spree. i would literally fly from town to town raining hellfire on the citizens killing everyone (essentially i was a drone before drones were a thing). even those who hid in their homes were not safe, i'd brake in and stab them. i continued this until the world ran out of npcs, good times
This reminds me of something.
StrangeGloves?
StandardFootware?
AverageSneakers?
What was it called again?
I think its TypicalSandals
I'm with ya let's beat all the blood omen series it's some thing iv wanted to do for a long time, and I all ready have all of them, and I also have the dlc from tomb raider guardian of the light kain and razial dlc you should get your hands on that too they have some original diolog it's the bees knees
Hey Mathias. How did you get the game to download?
Please do a play through of the entire series! Haha
