  • Doubledeckeranton shows Londons 1st ever Hybrid buses to enter service in 2006, the single deck 'Wright Electrocity' built by Wright bodies in Ireland and unveiled by then Mayor Ken Livingstone in 2006.
    Hybrid electric buses use a combination of an electric battery pack and a diesel engine to provide power and produce around 40% less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than traditional diesel engined buses.
    Energy generated during braking is used to charge the batteries of hybrid vehicles!
    This being london's first ever hybrid bus in 2006, hybrid buses of 2017 have advanced in technology and are a lot smoother to drive under acceleration and braking! 🔋🔌🚍👍

    from a drivers point of view anton i feel that the modern mainstay single deck buses from wrights & adl are no where near as good to drive as the equiv decker. compare the new wright single decks,streetlite they call it,with the volvo wright & the single decker is much inferior,in so many ways.compared to a merc citaro,the rolls royce of single deckers,imo,the equiv single decks from adl & wrights are way behind.another thing ive noticed is the build quality of new wright deckers is much better than the single deck streetlite from wrights.

    Those movieken screens are the new style iBus screens - they have them on the new BYD enviro 200s on routes 507 and 521. They are very similar to the passenger information displays on the new class 345 on the Elizabeth lines as they are more informative than the standard dot matrix screens.

    The most interesting video on RUclips ever!!! For passengers new buses look sometimes like very complicated robots. Electronics everywhere and in every bus very different. Then I really miss the old and easy routemasters with their friendly and personal atmosphere. Your explanation helps us to understand new buses. They will never be the same. Thank you Anton!

    That handbrake release is like most parking brakes on modern cars. Only if it’s using a button parking brake though. It’s far more ideal but I’m not sure what the handbrake is like on a bus. The brakes are regenerative so it’s likely it’s got older technology which makes the braking bad.

    Hi Anton. Hope your well. Our year old Scania E400 MMC's are the same. When you put your foot down on the gas pedal, nothing happens! Until about a second or so later. Because of this they can be frustrating to drive when joining roundabouts and pulling out of busy junctions. The brakes are nice and smooth though and the ride is generally quiet and refined. But I prefer the old Scania' E400's that actually react as soon as the gas is touched.

    Absolutely love cadets, only had small engines though and could be underpowered at times especially if not maintained well, the short versions were fine but the longer ones could struggle as they got older, the Volvo engined ones with 10L engines were Wright Renowns which are almost identical except longer and slightly different lights, true workhorses

      DoubleDeckerAnton still got a large batch of Volvo B10BLEs with the Wright Renown body here in Aberdeen. They're away to turn 17 years old soon and currently getting refurbished. Really are true workhorses, most reliable buses here and the drivers love them.

    I totally agree with you about the safety interlocks on busses now Anton, at my depot we have a bunch of Enviro 400s which are rigged with all sorts of safety interlocks which always break and then they have to be taken back into depot to be fixed, whereas our Volvo Wrightbus products are much nicer to drive being more driver friendly, we have B10BLE Wright Renowns, B7L/B7rle eclipses and B9TL eclipse Geminis

    Hi Anton great to hear from you again. Lothian Buses in Edinburgh have got 6 electric powered Wright bodied mini Buses & there’s more to follow sometime in 2018. Stagecoach in Inverness took delivery of around 8 or 10 electric powered Optares for town service work abt 2 years ago. So it won’t be long till every bus & coach is powered by electric Mate.

    • @rossmcgarrie9787
      @rossmcgarrie9787 6 лет назад

      Spazgls think they only seat 25 or 35 folk. So they’re no much bigger than the old Dennis Dart with Alexander Dash body for example. Volvo B6s were also made on that body with a nearside radiator grill. The low floor body P reg upwards also had the same engine with the grill on the same side. I think they were also more or less the first Alexander’s low floor bodies. Sorry I meant midi NOT mini.

    The longer version of these buses with the Volvo B10BLE engine are called Renowns. The longer body was also available on a Scania L94UB and this was called Wright Axcess-Floline

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 6 лет назад +1

      The B10BLE is a whole chassis not just an engine. They could have been one of three types actually. The Renown bodied B10BLE is the later low floor version, but then there was also the earlier low floor version (Liberator bodied B10L) and the stepped entrance version (Endurance bodied B10B)

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 6 лет назад +1

      Also, those buses weren’t really “longer versions of” the Cadet (which was Wright’s first integral bus, long before the “Street” series) the Electrocity was based on. The Commander body for the VDL SB200 would better fall into that category.

    • @RWL2012

    I think you should consider getting a test-drive of a Tesla Model S or X. Yes, it's a car, but it's a truly "modern" electric car. Would love to see your reaction, because it had the most "direct" feel of any vehicle I have ever driven. Just shows how great electronics can be if done right (the brakes were linear as well). The responsiveness of the electric motor without any clutch / transmission cannot be described with words. When you do a kick-down, the car starts accelerating (rapidly and silently) even before the pedal hits the floor. Just amazing...

    For anyone wondering these are based on the Wright Cadet/Commander body the hybrids were the very last classic bodied Wright’s built as the diesels were taken out of production in 2007. I used to love the Renown bodied Volvo B10BLEs up were I live there is only 2 left in service and they will be withdrawn soon and I feel that they were better built than the new bodied Wright’s the Pulsars can rattle like crazy

      I done some more research on these they are the same as a Cadet they have a modified VDL/DAF SB120 chassis (except for 1 prototype which had a Dennis Dart SLF chassis which the SB120 is a basically a copy of, they are indeed the very last of the "proper" Wright bodies.

      BYD's headquarter is in Shenzhen shares border with Hong Kong, so that may cause some confusion. But those BYD buses build for Hong Kong are performing really poorly, for example, poor hill climbing ability, poor air con, wheelspin when wet etc. In fact, the very first electric bus build for Hong Kong (not sure if it was BYD) was Chinese build, and it caught fire the night before it went into test. 😂😂😂

    When you said hydraulic did you actually mean pneumatic or air operated? Because loads of components on a bus (as well as a lorry or a train) are operated by air, e.g. brake, handbrake, doors. These components draw air from air tanks (a bus usually has more than one air tank), which are topped up by compressors driven by the engine. These components are trigerred by operating the valves so that the they're connected or seperated from the air tanks. When the desired valve is open, the air in the air tanks applys force to the designated direction due to the difference of air pressure in the air tank (~10-12 bars) and in the atmosphere (~1 bar)

    Any bus body on the Euro VI Volvo B5LH chassis have this rather annoying whining noise sometimes, like Gemini 3s on the routes 114, 140 & 182. Sometimes it's on, other times its off. I don't know what it is though

    These aren't the 1st hybrids, the st hybrids were the east lancs myleniumm which were gas powered I think..... Which were brought following the myleniumm dome opening

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 6 лет назад +1

      No because they are just a combustion engine that runs on a different fuel still driving through a convential gearbox, and no electric motor. Hybrid gas bus though, I wonder if any actually exist :-P
