  • Doubledeckeranton finally gets to drive a 100% 'fully electric bus' in London. 🔌🔋➡️😃👍
The single decker BYD Enviro 200 EV buses have already been in service for nearly 6 months.
Anton had to receive type training by a mentor, before driving 'the bus of the future'! 😊👌
Over the next two decades, all buses in London will be electric and emit zero emissions by the year 2037...!!! 🚍🚏🏃‍♂️😁✔
Grab yourself a 'bit of D.D.A. merch', available from the link below...!!! 👕🔝💯✅
T-shirts, hoodies, bags and masks, are available, in various colours.
More designs, will be displayed gradually.

We recently got two electric Enviro 200's in Auckland. I haven't been on one because they operate on CityLink, which I don't use (CityLink buses are the only Auckland buses painted Red, others are painted Dark Blue, Light Blue, Grey, Green, Orange, White, Baige & Purple). The intention is to roll electric buses out across Auckland, especially on routes that run into or in the CBD.

Went on a E200 EV the other day - a Ritchie's one which runs on the 866 route. Must say the seating config is much nicer on this one in the video. The suspension is not great on the NZ 2023 version. Slow down every time there is a small pothole or bump. The CRRC busses used on the Tamaki link etc are very nice.

Metroline have double deck electrics on the route 98 but only 5 of them alongside the hybrid Gemini 3s. Around February 2019 Metroline will have 2 different types of new electric buses (with ADL/BYD with the Enviro City EV for the route 43, and the Optare Metrodecker for the route 134) - Which'll mean that the old Volvo Plaxton Presidents on 43 will be gone but not sure whether the 134's diesel Enviros would fate (possibly transfer to a different garage)

About half a century ago, there were lots of full electric buses in London with no traction batteries, albeit supplied by coal fired power stations. No doubt somewhat lighter in weight as well.

The city I live in in the Netherlands currently has 27 hybrids (Volvo Prototypes, they actually use more diesel then most new diesel buses sadly), 3 Heuliez Irisbus diesel and 3 electric Rosero First buses. Starting next year we'll get 3 more Resero First buses to replace the 3 Heuliez irisbuses and de 27 hybrids, despite being quite young (2011-2012) will be replaced by 37 fully electric Ebusco/Golden Dragon electric buses.
We'll have a 0 emission fleet next year, even if the fleet is a lot smaller :)

I heard that TfL is investing in some Optare Metrodeckers - can't wait to see them on the road, after all they are very rare in some parts of UK. By the way, many electric and hybrid buses have jerky brakes due to their regenerative braking (just a fun fact in case someone didn't know 😀).

Single decks are lighter than double decks, so they get a lighter chassis construction with smaller 19.5" wheels. The longer continental single decks and double decks get heavyweight chassis that can handle the extra weight of passengers that you'd find on those vehicles, or in this case the extra weight of batteries, and therefore have 22.5" wheels. There are a few exceptions to these two sizes, but fitting a different size wheel would likely result in more expensive axles and wheels.
I assume the EV has regenerative braking on the throttle, so the brake pedal just does the service brakes?

Shame London took its trams and trolleybuses off the streets in the 30s-60s. Personally, I would have kept and extended the original tramway network and the trolleybus system, and then put hybrids and electric buses on the diesel routes, which would make it a lot easier to make the streets cleaner and air pollution free a lot quicker.

Toby Jackson I found that strange myself. If they used DC then they would only need one cable. I can see why they would want only AC , the "chargers" or evse will be much smaller and compact.

So, London is for transport with Electric buses? Good. Here in my city in Czech Republic we buy CNG buses for emit zero emmisions😀. It is sad, beacuse we like our old buses, but we also must buy new and "modern" buses 😕. Our CNG buses are made by polish company Solaris ☺
We have only one fully electric bus, but it is very unreiable vehicle so the bus is reconstructed to trolleybus and we are waiting for new CNG buses and saying goodbye to old but great buses... 👍

    Hi Anton,
The wheels on the bus will be bigger to support the weight most likely and not to make them go further as they will require more energy to do a full rotation however I really enjoy your videos and hope you keep on making them.
