Those walls look amazing! When I'm losing my oomph I tell myself "I am a mighty mighty woman and I can do mighty mighty things" Clare, you are a mighty mighty woman! You are doing mighty mighty things! Many Blessings :)
It's always when the end is in sight ( even though the tunnel is still long) that you feel the effects of the long hard slog. Take care of yourself. With all our projects we end up saying we'll do that at a future point.😂
I wouldn’t use the black in the gaps of the OSB floor, just wood putty, sand, and a few coats of spar urethane! It would make it waterproof and moppable!! 😊💚
You might want to put in another voile panel to make it 3. I used to have two in my windows but always felt they were a bit ‘stretched’ so got another one and this made a huge difference and stopped the gap in the middle!
Funny, was scrolling down to leave a comment, thinking I can feel that pain, been there done that, recognise the gritted teeth of having to suck it up and push through to finish jobs where the motivation and novelty departed many many days ago, and see your pinned comment.... Feel your pain folks, one foot in front of the other, steady as she goes! I've got some cherry wood smoked pork ribs with your name on them. Maybe drop them in for you to celebrate your final inspection.
Oooh they sound good. Oh my there will be big celebrating when we finalize! Cork county council are running 6 weeks behind atm, so there will be a wait, but look hopefully all worth it in the end 💪
I don't know how you didn't throw that radiator through the window - Hanging it looked like a real Nightmare lol! I'll be fascinated to see how the house fares with that system as it's something totally new to me. The upstairs is shaping up to be a lovely space, and the hall area getting done will really link the entire space in terms of flow. Your choice of banister / balustrade around the stair opening will be a crucial decision - Maybe glass or tensioned braided steel wire? I envy your ability to stay on task, just plough on through, and not break off to do small 'easy win ' jobs like the window trims etc. Thank you for a great video guys!
You are doing such an amazing job Claire love sheers on the bedroom windows really finishes off the room gives it a nice girly look and that bathtub. Oh my God can you just imagine how wonderful that’s gonna be when you can have long hot bubble bath with a nice glass of wine sending lots of love from California.
🎉love the voiles 😁 don’t you think it’s amazing all the new skills you have now, plus if you need to do any maintenance you know where everything is because you did it all yourselves 🙌🙌
So so so impressed with all the work you’ve done on the house, from watching your vids this time last year when it was basically a shell to now where it looks like a home so impressed! Ye are great!
Thanks, we are getting there, we do feel bad when our videos arent as engaging or exciting as others. We dont plan anything and just record week to week so some weeks are better than others.
Rob, very interesting summary regarding the infra red heater and the reasons why. Didn’t know that. Having grown up in a house with mass concrete walls, where we were always battling condensation, I must tell my sister (who lives there). Thanks for the education. Claire - how you are taming that jigsaw puzzle of an upstairs sitting area and making it look so good is inspiring. Good onya girl👏👏👏
Burn out BURN OUT? nah yer on fire xx Lovin the up dates and seeing the interior end game! Deep breathes I noticed there was no food add on this week Soooooo I'm setting yizs a challenge. Drum roll A Coddle Yep not to be confused with a cuddle in the new draped bedroom hehe. Hhehe got a few laughs from this 🤣 were so tired we barely make it to the bed before passing out!! Will add that to the list thanks 🥰 the PC versions 😉
Voile curtains look great and that’s a huge lot of plastering done The electric stuff is coming along great so it will all come together soon with you both
Your feet must be really sore! Maybe a soak in the ocean. The house is looking great! Getting more and more excited. Keep up the good work God bless. PS Any way to harness the wind energy?👍😎 Denver CO
Clare, you could of been completed in the bedroom in two days if the sheet-rock was lined up properly. The seems were not meeting and the space were two big. Question: are you going to base boards? While you are doing the heavy work, Maybe Rob can start finishing windows and baseboard. It would be one less thing to worry about. Blessings from NY
Lots of things could have been done differently. It is what it is, we wanted to recycle instead of wasting. Top priority is the electrics so Rob'll be on that for the next few weeks. Well put skirting boards on at some point but that's lower on our priority list.
@@WestCorkWander Great idea, thank you for sharing. Its nice seeing people renovating old properties and bringing them back to life. It's a lot work, God bless you all.
great work do you have a time limit for the grant if so when is the cottage got to be done by 👍 your sockets under the sink near water pipes are very very close what’s the rule in ireland i thought it was 12 inches horizontal apart.
Yes they may look that way but they are actually much more than the 12 inches, but thank for your concern. We have submitted everything for the grant, we had until the end of Sept however they have let us know that they are 6 weeks behind so we are ready when they are for the inspection.
💯 that's the plan for both ensuites. Rob trialled one for the downstairs bathroom a few vids back. Worked out well we have the hardware bought almost a year now 👌
I am binge watching these videos years to months after they were posted so my comment is late. If the channel owner happens to see this comment, can you please Google how rafter ties are supposed to be installed and see if you reach the same conclusion about the bulge in the house wall as I did?
@@WestCorkWander I apologize for being critical but rafters without ties push outward on the walls. Rafter ties prevent that so that the pressure of the roof pushes more or less straight down on the walls. The general rule of thumb is that rafter ties need to be installed no more than a third of the way up the rafters in order to be effective. The previous owner installed the rafter ties too high in order to raise the ceiling height. I agree that the number of rafters was also insufficient. My concern is that not all of the rafters have ties. Those that do have ties were installed more or less at the same height as the ones that the previous owner installed. All of this means that the rafters are pushing outward on the walls rather than transferring the weight of the roof straight down where the walls are strongest. It is fixable but, judging by how far behind I am in watching your videos, I suspect you already have the ceilings installed. You would need to remove those to install the rafter ties correctly. The ceilings would inevitably be a bit lower. Of course, I am some stranger thousands of miles away who is giving unsolicited advice. I would suggest doing your own research. If you have concerns afterward, maybe discuss the issue with a local expert. I did notice that somebody else very briefly commented on the issue about the time you were installing the rafters. I don’t think that person used the term rafter ties so it would have been easy to miss.

You guys have done a super job.
Thankyou for your lovely comment 🙂

Yes, we were just having this conversation, I think you could be right 😉
Hard at work 💪
Or hardly working 🤣
You might want to put in another voile panel to make it 3. I used to have two in my windows but always felt they were a bit ‘stretched’ so got another one and this made a huge difference and stopped the gap in the middle!
Oh gawd... we've just put the last debacle to bed and that could mean Voile war 2 is about to kick off 😂😉

Great video, guys, as always. Look forward to seeing you pop up on Saturdays. ❤
And Wednesdays too 😉
Claire, dont apologize for not getting it done.
If you push too much you’ll typically have to re-do some of it.
Just do what you can ❤
I think we will revisit a lot of the finish in the years to come. Just need it good enough now!
We used tiles for the floor which look like wood😊
We actually have found a clearance surplus of these... Stay tuned! Next project build!!
You can blame Rob 😂.. big job but one well done.
Always do 😉🤣
Going great guns !
🥰 thanks!
The window dressings look terrific. With the windows so large they needed the sheers. 🇨🇦
Ah thankyou, I have to agree😊
A wooden threshold is a good idea. It’s all progress!
Hopefully 🤞

It was challenging for sure! You'd think putting the roof or laying the floor would be challenging but no, it's the radiator and hole filling 😂

Oh my God can you just imagine how wonderful that’s gonna be when you can have long hot bubble bath with a nice glass of wine sending lots of love from California.
We've been dreaming of that for well over a year!!
We call them sheers here in the US, but yes i think it looks fabulous now.
Thanks 🥰
🎉love the voiles 😁 don’t you think it’s amazing all the new skills you have now, plus if you need to do any maintenance you know where everything is because you did it all yourselves 🙌🙌
Totally! One of the goals of doing it all ourselves is the maintenance self sufficiency

Thanks so much 😊 getting there 😂
Not a microwave. You need a toaster oven. They do not spew radiation and they keave the nutrition of your food intact. Great renos!
Yeah we are on the fence. We wat to downsize all the kitchen bits we have!
You’re both doing SO well. As they say Rome !!! Each day/ hour you’re getting there. 😊😊

No worries at all and thanks 🥰
Might need sockets on island for slow cookers!
We have some sockets at the end of the island on the wall, hoping this will suffice. 🙂

Hello from California! 😊
Hello there!
Brilliant work you two
Thanks! Tough going!

Totally sore, had great weather and best of intentions but didn't make it to the ocean .. soon hopefully!
Nice video
Thanks

Have a yay! yourself ;)

Did you use a flexible tile adhesive on the wooden floor? Loving your content 😊
Not yet! But reckon we'll need to here!
Did you think of using a barn door on Kiera's bathroom???❤
💯 that's the plan for both ensuites. Rob trialled one for the downstairs bathroom a few vids back. Worked out well we have the hardware bought almost a year now 👌

🥰🥰🥰
Why aren't you using drywall tape on your seams?
We found the adhesive scrim tape more forgiving for a novice like us. We did use both at the beginning

Thanks for wandering with us 😊 The bulge in the wall was due to inadequate rafters and a very heavy roof.
