Butter than jam and sometimes cream 👍 love your video's guy's, thanks Rob for bread making.. Claire did you wear a mask when using spray paint gun? 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire
Hi guys, I'm from Australia and have a client from Ireland and she always asks me to make potato bread, l have tried it but would live to see how you make it, if you can. Thanks heaps.
My grandmother would make me Irish soda bread without caraway and for grandpa with caraway-and of course raisins!! Thank you so much! I love a crunchy scone!!! Has to have a crunch! Butter under the jam, definitely!!
Pumpkin scones... it's a Queensland, Australia thing. However, our staples were Barn Brac ( also called Tea Brac) or Soda Bread. Scones were trotted out for guests and we'd get the ugly scones as kids with honey.
A tea back in our house was nothing a barm brac it was much richer had to be wrapped for a day or two before cutting The brac was like bread with dried fruit sultanas mostly
Definitely must have butter with the jam sorry Rob. We don't use sugar in our scones here in NZ. Savoury scones are big here, Cheese scones are very popular and you spruce them up by adding ham, bacon, onion. What about making potatoe bread and soda bread? I remember Granny making this for my Granda - they lived in Co Tyrone. My mammy broke that many wooden spoons on the backs of our legs that she ended up buying a big solid plastic fecker so we lived in fear of the wooden (plastic) spoon. Well done with your honey harvest, must be great to be more self sufficient. Thanks for the inspiration!
Rob, If you have any extra tile you can extent the sides of the shower to make it look intentional. Looks great though. I’m sure the honey is incredible. Btw, I’m with Clare. Butter 1st the jam or marmalade yummmmm ✌️💚
Like butter and jam:) and as for putting stuff in safe place, that you can't remember where, when you find safe place about ten years later, thinking dont remember putting it there lol
when we were young and acting up... all mom had to do was open the drawer that held the wooden spoons and cooking utensils... we would hear the sound, even from another room, and we would run the other way!! LOL
I stood like an eejit when I was told, and was then informed that I was going to get the wooden spoon across the arse for being so bold! All the while my 4 sisters who had much better survival instincts than myself were all upstairs hiding under their beds.
Tasmania..scones were plain, currant, cheese depending on season. Strawberry jam homemade or raspberry also homemade and clotted cream from our jersey cow
Clare the honey looks absolutely amazing and fascinating to watch you explain the process. Rob I bake scones plain too I use buttermilk though and I also use a small glass to cut them out. Cant beat home baking. I love butter and jam on scone and I love butter only on scone too. Did ye ever make mousse? Daddy used to make it also Bogbine. It’s very good for you as it purifies the blood. I love your channel as there’s a bit of everything in it
You might want to sit down when reading this..........bread...no butter...jam....and mayonaise..........Mum , Kerry . Dad , Balbrigan.....son (Me) Windsor Berkshire.....have been known to have Bread , Jam , Mayonaise and sliced pickled gherkins 😁
Hey Rob there is no instruction manual for life, that's what I love about you guys, you just get on with it, my sort of folk. Clare, fab job with the bees and honey, I bet the honey tastes fantastic. Best I have right now is to bottle my bramble vodka and elderberry tincture, it's looking good :)
Yummmmmy, scones are my thing!!! In London at mo but looking forward to making some once Im home!!!it has been awhile, you cannot beat a scone straight from the oven. Rob I'm interested to know how you developed your startersourdough. I tried it a few times during lockdown but it was a huge fail. I too suffer from stomach issues from overload of bread and thought it was the yeast. I am now keen to try spelt flour. Thanks to you and Claire for the fabulous videos. Well done to you both on all levels, your talents are at the top of best scale❤🤗🤗🤗🤗
You know what there was a huge amount of trial and error with this. There are many many good RUclips videos on how to start a starter, then create the leaven (which at the start we didn't really understand) and then the dough.. Rob was determined to get there and do didn't stop until he finally got there. Definitely worth giving it another lash 😊
My mother used to make cheese scones sometimes for tea in the evening. She didn’t use a cutter for this but once the dough was in a round semi-flattened shape, she cut it into slices so you got triangle scones. We’d eat them straight from the range slathered in butter. I loved them so much, that’s the version of scones I make most often now. Oh and I’m with Claire on the butter/ jam front (tho I’m not a jam person unless it’s raspberry or marmalade). Put it all together, none of your faffing about Rob 😆😜
I’m from Sunderland North East England, our house very much like an Irish home, my mother made bread every day, I’m the eldest of 5 kids. I’m with Clare on this one you cannot have scones without butter even if you have jam as well.
My buddy keeps bees around his property, and he showed us that if you put your honey filled wax in a low and slow oven, then cool it, all your wax will solidify on the top. Just lift it off and the rest will be more usable honey. Fantastic honey harvest! Great job! FYI; I watch Just Alex too. 😊 Yup my British Gran would make us red currant sconce for Canada Day, that was called Dominion Day when I was young. At 56yrs, I make sconces but with black currants (gluten free) for my family in the fall. I also like butter and honey on my sconce.
a cheap old crock pot/slow cooker from an op shop on low for a few hours, turned off overnight, then lift off your wax... the honey from the slow cooker i use for cooking honey.
Thanks for the honey comb and the scone demonstrations! So cool! I can relate with the Celiac issues, I have Hashimoto’s which is also an autoimmune disorder and I also can’t eat gluten anymore. 😩 The upstairs is looking great! Love you guys! 😊💚 Edit: Clare I’m with you, butter under jam tastes better. I would also love to try an Irish scone with Kerry gold Irish butter and Clare’s Irish honey!! 😋💚
@@WestCorkWander well we can get the Irish butter here, but the scones would probably spoil in transit and our postage people aren’t gentle with packages and would probably break a jar of honey. Not to mention it’s still 106°F here because I live in the fecking desert 👀🌵🔥😩😅🤣
Clare you are so right. Butter and jam. Mmmmm good. We had biscuits and Dad used a soup can to cut them. Worked really well cheap and cheerful. Great videos thank you
❤🎉 Brings tears to my eyes watching you cook the scones and bread today. My grandparents from Ireland always had "tea breads" tea and homemade jam of some sort ready to go when we arrived. Peach n apricot were the best, grandpa said it was how he cared for the trees. I feel back at home listening to you both. Tanks for dat! Gpa was from Cork, Gma Waterford. How about some pasty makin? I'm the master pasty maker here. Oh, Gma had a wooden hanger that she took after us with, once we could out run her...there were lots of religious words! Hahahaha! But we were all good kids. Lovely memories 💖 Tanks 🎉
Love the honey 🎉 that must be so satisfying and yes it is amazing, I’ve just ground a load of organic spelt flakes, made the starter in the jar and have written down your recipe going to make the bread tomorrow, I said Rob use a glass for the scones, reckon you heard me 😂😂 p.s. is it 250g of water or 250ml ? Thanks
250g it's easier on the same weighing scales. But we needed to feed our starter for almost a week before it got good. It smelt like vinegar for 5 days and I wanted to throw it out but Rob said stick to it and it's perfect now. 🤞🤞🤞 For you!
Oh I got it with the wooden spoon😂 right on the butt! Our scones were plain but when done, mom would whip some fresh cream 🤤 Try your scones with some cheddar and crumbled bacon mixed in
@@WestCorkWander you could try with just one scone, that last ’ball’. Then you won’t ruin a whole batch if you don’t like it. Sorta ends up being a breakfast biscuit type thing
Yes, It’s traditional to have both butter and jam with cream on top.,Claire, but to each his own. I use sour cream ,instead of milk for scones. Rob, You’re supposed to rub the butter in as little as possible to keep the scones light and fluffy. For a first try using spelt instead of flour they looked pretty good. Growing up in Cambs, UK., I did cookery in high school for 4 years. I still live to bake. 😅I made sausage rolls with my own puff pastry yesterday. Then today I-made rolled ginger cookies, enough to freeze most of the dough for another two batches, same with unbaked sausage rolls too. I pretty much always make at least double batches of many recipes and freeze for another time. I made a baked potato andd ham cream soup earlier this week and made four meals for two people. Like you both, home baking tastes fresh, you know what’s in it, and saves money for other things in life and to save. I see online that the holiday goodies are now getting in shops there, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s…. Have a good week both of you. 😊 M.

Isn’t that shower small?? There seems to be room for a bigger unit??
It's the standard size here. We grew up with one, be grand for the kids 👌
Scone putter both sides then jam in the middle. Umm
Perfect 🥰
Sorry, Clare, just realised I've been spelling your name wrong 🤦♀️My sister is Claire with an 'i' so it's my default 😂 Will try to remember remember in future 😉 x
Don't worry, it's a common mistake, but don't worry 😊
Butter and jam …. If I have cream I only have jam … we are such fickle folk lol
Now yes cream is a whole other matter🤣 Rob doesn't like cream, but yes I would have cream instead of the butter 😉
Rob you are WRONG. Clare is right.
Why thank you 😀
